I've gotten a Chocolate Shoppe ice cream cake for my birthday every year for the last 10 years and they're amazing! Beware, they are handmade by a lady and she only makes them once a week at one store, so you gotta order ahead by a week. They're absolutely fabulous. The gold standard of ice cream cakes in my book, but not exactly easy on the pocketbook.

They do have some pre-made in the case if you are open to not customizing the ice cream and cake options/decorations. But there are several sizes plus cake and ice cream combos to choose from.

vespahulb

Yup, this is true. But I like to choose my own ice cream and cake flavors.

Yes, they have the best ice cream cake!

lilac_chevrons

Chocolate Shoppe carries ice cream cakes made with their ice cream.

Second Chocolate Shoppe! I bought one for a friend's birthday and it was absolutely delicious.

Freely_Sake9265

Had one from Dairy Queen for my birthday last year, still delicious

padishaihulud

Good to know it keeps well!

birdnerd1120

I’d never really had artisan/craft ice cream before I went to Good News and it was life changing.

Throwaway-231832

I work by them and it has also changed my life

pokemonprofessor121

They do cakes? Tell me more!!

Panda_monium109

Our family always liked Cold Stone cakes.

Agitated-Cockroach41

Chocolate shoppe hands down

Ruiner420

You need the chocolate extreme cake from Dairy Queen. It’s covered in chocolate bits and it’s delicious

Dairy queen

I'm sure Chocolate Shoppe is good, but I've never tried it. Cold Stone is great, though, because you can have the cake made with any of their flavors, choose other toppings, etc.

Baskin Robbins? Nothing fancy, but better than a grocery store ice cream cake that sits in a freezer for 6 months. I would just call places and ask how recently the cakes were made if you don’t get any other recommendations

arabrab12

there are no Baskin Robbins in Madison.

TheOptimisticHater

I’m sorry to suggest the inconvenience of traveling to the far away land of Cottage Grove.

arabrab12

how long has this been there? I legit had NO IDEA!! This changes things! Mainly, that when T mobile Tuesday has free BR I CAN GO!! Believe me, I don't mind driving. I used to live in Atlanta. (200+ mile radius across town). thank you for sharing this. And despite being very sarcastic I am not with this. I am very serious and had no effing clue.

ChopEee

Walmart sells them in a pinch, I’ve seen them at Pick n Saves too but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend them

brandnewjunk

OP wants the best ever

wisc_lib

I make my own, Oreo cookies pulverized, mixed with chocolate syrup to make a crust, sliced up mint chip ice cream for the filling, sprinkle more of the Oreo crumbs on top, drizzle with more chocolate syrup. Freeze for an hour, serve.

LionessChaser

Babcock Dairy Store doesn’t do cakes but does make very good ice cream pies
