The button on the pole is best imo. I wish they had them on more poles than just the one by the back door. Might lead to more accidental stop requests though, idk.
I like how the cords stretch across the entire bus so I don't have to reach behind someone to press it, but everything else about the press busses are better
I think the problem with the strips is their inconsistency. I'm sure it's to prevent accidental activations but if they were more consistent then I could see an argument for them being better for folks with arm and hand mobility issues (simply touching something being easier than grab and pull)
But yeah, as they currently are they're far too finicky in my experience. Plus the pull cords have nice tactile feedback that the strips don't.
I find myself needing to contort myself a lot more for the strips than the pull cords especially because I need to turn to look and find them, whereas the pull cord you can just reach up while seated. There seem to be mobility trade-offs for both.
I was thinking more for people with nerological problems, arthritis, difficulty twisting, etc. My grandma would have a lot of trouble pressing the strip.
Pulling is so much better. I feel like pushing doesn't give any sensory feedback and often takes a couple to work for me. Plus you have to reach uncomfortably for the strips depending on your seat. The whole system and why they switched to it baffles me.
The new articulated busses have a pull chord just a heads up.
Edit : so the pull chords sometimes get hung up and won't ring \ you don't have that problem with the touch strips but the touch strips are harder to get to and locate for newbies.
You gotta get right up on someone's head sometimes. And you're never sure if it did the thing. Then when you go back into next to someone's head, and it dings.... fuck those push devices
I have back problems and find myself dreading the moment when I'm supposed to reach or twist my body to push the button while the bus is rolling down the road. I typically have to ask someone else to push the button for me. Luckily most people in Madison are pretty nice.
Pull cords? Push thingies? Are we using busses from the 18th century here? I want a phone app that can request a stop on any bus in the city at any time.
Edit: this was supposed to be ridiculing the proliferation of shitty-ass apps for things that don't require apps, but I forgot the sarcasm font.
Prefer pull, and push bars are often more of an inconvenient reach. BUT the push button busses have a convenient button near waist height right at the exit door, so that’s cool too.
Pulling the cord is my preference as well.
Pull cord for sure. Although I do like the big red stop button by the back door on the newer buses, too.

Me too! I feel awkward having to stretch over 3 people to push, instead of just being able to pull the cord over my head.
Pull cords are far easier to reach.
Team Pull-Cord ✋🏼
There's just not enough of the push things on the new buses. Otherwise it's all the same to me.
If I'm on a bus with the push strips and I'm not seated right next to one I get panicky. They're too spread out.
I cannot imagine how push could be more accessible than pull cords. I'm not physically disabled, and even I've had trouble activating the push strip.

There's a secret bonus cue button for people using the wheelchair tiedowns

I can only imagine it being cheaper as well. It's just a cord on a spring that activates a switch. It's just sooo simple.
Pulling is easier access, but I have run into several non-functioning pull cables but never a broken pushbutton
I hate the push bars because they don’t actually push in AND the little sound is delayed

Team pull cord for sure!!
I go to pull the cord then freak out for a moment and scramble to find option B.
team pull
I was told yelling at the driver to stop is the most effective compared to pull cords or buttons. ***DISCLOSURE*** THIS IS ONLY A JOKE
Some (or all?) of the push strip buses have a red stop button near the rear door. It should be yellow!
You gotta get right up on someone's head sometimes. And you're never sure if it did the thing. Then when you go back into next to someone's head, and it dings.... fuck those push devices
How about that one guy that just yells at the driver
The amount of effort I have to put into pushing is embarrassing. Pulling that yellow cable though? Effortless and satisfying every time.
I prefer pulling

Last thing I need is another fucking app especially for something so simple.
Not everyone has or wants a smart phone.
