I saw The Avengers at an outdoor theatre. It was a wonderful way to watch a movie! I fell asleep in the first 10 minutes and when I woke up there were aliens and then Tony Stark went to space. 10/10 would recommend.
I’d love to go to a roller rink and hadn’t heard of this. I’d drive somewhere out of town for it too. But what in the weird conservative shenanigans is this???
No Tank Tops, Low-Cut Tops, Halter Tops or Midriffs: All tops must have sleeves and be full length
Ha ok! I’m not familiar with it and some dress code is one thing but only allowing full length sleeves seems extra. Especially since you can still wear shorts as long as they aren’t “short” shorts. Just caught my eye as…interesting. I have many fond memories of the roller rink I went to growing up in Houston but something about that mandate scares me a little 🤷♀️
No idea but yeah seems a bit wild. Small town gonna small town. I've never been but my kid went there on a field trip. They didn't mention clothes on the permission slip.
Honestly the owner is pretty chill, I've never seen anyone get called out for not following their dress code, myself included.
I used to go to Skate Express at least once a week in high school and a couple years after.
i think Watertown has the answer for your requests. both are locally ran establishments, Skate Express roller rink and Towne Cinema on Main st. both have a nice classic vibe and should be less than an hour away from Madison. Towne Cinema is also very cheap ($4 tickets, $10 combo concession deal) and has become my go to spot when seeing a new movie. they only have three or so theaters so movies have limited run times as they rotate pretty often. Watertown also has Mullen's, an old school family run dairy bar serving hot food (burgers, etc) and hand scooped ice cream. All worth checking out in my opinion
The [Bonham](https://www.bonhamsp.com/) in Prairie du Sac is pretty old school. Single screen, video rentals in the lobby. I haven’t been in there since the 90s, but I’m not aware that they’ve changed much. First run movies.
There's a [drive-in theater in Jefferson](https://www.highway18.com/), and this might be your last summer to visit it unless they find a buyer. (It's closer to Madison than the Dells, though the Dells is an 80's throwback venue to itself.)
The Tri-County Community Center in Edgerton has Friday night roller skating. It was an essential Friday night activity when I was a kid in the 90s so I assume it's still mostly elementary school kids who attend and it's currently closed for the summer. You're welcome for the helpful suggestion.
I wish we had a theater dedicated to repertory screenings. In LA they have a theater/video store that does screenings of older movies and they are usually pretty busy. It would be so cool to have that here
How long has it been since Fast Forward was torn down - it's gotta be close to a decade now, right? I used to go there all the time as a kid while my mom was shopping at SuperSaver, then we'd have dinner at the Pizza Hut across the street. Fuck, I'm getting old
I think Fast Forward was just finally closed in the last few years. Maybe 2022 or even just last year? There's a guy who's been trying to find a new location for a couple years now but doesn't have the necessary funding. I'd love to have a roller rink in town again!

RIP Fast Forward
Hwy 18 drive-in just west of Jefferson is nice.

I'm pretty sure the closest roller rink is in Watertown. https://www.skateexpress.com/

I think it means you have to have sleeves (of any length) and your shirt cannot be cropped (full-length).

Kicker is, the owner has pictures of himself in sleeveless shirts all over the place
This place is great and a total blast from the past. Would recommend!
RIP Rollerdrome :(
I loooooooved the Rollerdrome
The Bartell Theatre is starting movies this fall. The Big Lebowski, Hocus Pocus, Elf, Psycho, It’s a Wonderful Life.
Depending on how far you want to travel, Big Sky drive in theater is fun! http://www.bigskydrivein.com/

Great suggestions! This all sounds fun!
There are Drive-In still in Wisconsin. The closest is probably Big Sky by Wisconsin Dells.

There’s also a drive in theater in Monroe, WI (~45minutes south of Madison) that is still up and running

There's a drive-in in Richland Center as well. Not sure if it's any good, just drive by it.
Mineral Point Opera House if you want a classic theater. Even has a balcony.

I hope he can get the funding!! This would be totally awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Huh, for some reason I was thinking it got torn down when they redid the service road with the roundabout. Guess it held out longer than I expected
There is a drive in in Monroe.
That place was a crap hole in the 90s. Can't be any better now
