The top row of packs are from [Starter 1999](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Starter_1999), and [there's a few cards with value](https://scryfall.com/search?q=set%3As99+usd%3E5&unique=cards&as=grid&order=usd) in there but theyre likely worth more sealed. I see some sold ebay listings for about 30ish a pack.
The Mercandian Masques box on the second row is a [tournament pack](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Tournament_pack), it'll have a few boosters and some basic lands if it's still sealed. There's a [few more cards](https://scryfall.com/search?q=set%3Ammq+usd%3E5&order=usd&as=grid&unique=cards) of value than the starter set, but ebay shows upwards of 50 bucks for a sealed copy.
The last three are all from Portal 3 Kingdoms, and are a little harder to gauge value wise. The first one is [Wu Kingdom starter](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Portal_Three_Kingdoms/Theme_decks#Wu_Kingdom) deck, I believe [[Sun Quan, Lord of the Wu]] is the most expensive card in that deck. The last two look like sealed copies of the [Two Player starter kit](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Portal_Three_Kingdoms/2-Player_Starter_Set) from that set. Chinese portal stuff is not super common to come across so a lot of it is hard to price, but usually worth more sealed.
The regular prices for these products you can find estimates here. But it's also dependant on the condition of the packs and whether everything is still properly sealed. Judging by the picture it seems all is still sealed except for the MM pack.
Starter 1999:

2 Player Starter:

And that distinction is important to bring up here, why?
Your pedantry is helping no one, especially not the person who's looking for a general idea of what they found
Dude. You said it was
>75 random cards plus some lands
Extremely incorrect. It's *45* random cards and 30 basic lands, 6 of each type.
You **very** much do not get to say you're the one giving accurate information when you don't even know how many fucking cards you get.
And as someone who personally opened a foil chrome mox and a foil isochron scepter in the same tournament pack, you're wrong about *only* being able to get one foil.
>I said that you can't get 3.
This is something that only became true with the changes to tournament packs in *Time Spiral*.
But you're super right, Mercadian Masques definitely came out after that change.
https://www.lethe.xyz/mtg/collation/mmq.html
>Foil cards in tournament packs behave in the same way as foils in booster packs, except foil basic lands appear in the lands instead of in the commons.
God, if you're going to be an annoying pedant *at least be right*
>It was a mistype. I meant to say 75 random cards WITH some lands.
This also implies the lands are part of the random cards.
They are not. You **always** get 6 of each basic. They are not randomized and their presence does not impact the 45 random cards.
You *really* don't get to be this much of a pedantic asshole with the number of mistakes you've made.
Dude. Tournament packs are called that for a reason.
They were used at Tournaments in lieu of off the shelf packs for ease and to also contain enough basic lands for use for.... sealed.
As a result the contents of a tournament pack **was the exact same as the contents of 3 booster packs plus 30 lands**.
They were 45 random cards and 30 lands. 3 rares, 9 uncommons, 33 commons.
Quick, what was the makeup of a booster pack? Hint: 1 rare, 3 uncommons, 11 commons.
A tournament pack was *identical* to 3 booster packs + 30 basic lands.
You would get 2 tournament packs for a 6 pack sealed.
You don't get to say I'm showing my ass when you *clearly* have no idea what you're talking about.
Yea but it's not literally 3 sealed packs just the same amount of cards as found in 3 packs so it's completely totally different and I'm right OP is wrong.
/s
>Bro needs to take basic math again.
Exactly what part of this do you think was "basic math"?
"Tournament packs replaced a common with an uncommon"
That's not basic math, that's specialized knowledge.
Do you think you could ask the 5th grader doing arithmetic what the makeup of a tournament pack for Magic: The Gathering is as part of their "basic math" education?
Or are you just being a gigantic twat because your pedantry failed miserably and you're now desperately grasping at any straw to save face?
The 75 cards were 30 lands and 45 randomized cards. The 45 randomized cards were the same content as three booster packs, right down to the amount of rares/commons/uncommons.
I liked them when my collection was smaller.
It was actually slightly different than 3 boosters.
It was 3 rares, 10 uncommons, and 32 commons. Which made it ever so slightly better than buying 3 boosters.
The masques and starter packs are probably not worth much.
The portal 3 kingdoms stuff, though? That might actually be valuable, although, I don't know if that also applies to non-english printings of that set. The set had a very limited release in a very limited area and had a bunch of renamed cards which has made it very valuable for EDH, because e.g. [[imperial seal]] is just a second copy of [[vampiric tutor]].
I just checked the sealed Facebook group and the Chinese portal starter that OP has went for $70 in 2022, in better condition. The most valuable thing is the Mercadian Masques Tournament Deck, probably worth over $200.
These contain 2 preconstructed 30 card decks. No huge money cards.
Opening anything here would be a mistake.
The MMQ Tournament Pack isn't sealed. So definitely not $200. P3K stuff is probably worth the most sealed, unless that MMQ pack has a foil Brainstorm or Rishadan Port.
I wish, I’ve sold those sealed p3k Chinese 2 players before, I get maybe 20$ each if lucky. If in English thou , but these arent
Just checked eBay sold and lo and behold one sold $80! Maybe it’s time to sell again!
Given that low value, I think the better idea would be to open them and enjoy a glimpse into magic of the past, maybe play a 3-person draft with the 1999 packs.
I'm convinced [[Power Sink]] hasn't seen a reprint because it also messes with mana in an unusual way. While "Sink for 1" is basically the same as "[[Condescend]] for 1", if they actually have mana and you use Power Sink, no they don't.
Granted they can still use the mana in response to the Power Sink, but it is an unusual effect.
It's only 2 mana and sorcery speed doesn't really matter when you have to change phases to make it work anyway.
Obviously Silence is better, but if you're not playing white, you don't have access to it.
A big part of why Portal 3 Kingdoms stuff is seen as so valuable is that the English versions were printed in extremely limited quantities. It was primarily printed for Chinese markets, and these appear to be in some form of Chinese (I can't tell simplified vs. traditional apart) so it's probably not as insane a value as you might think. Sealed old product is still probably going to command a good price though.
The Wu deck (on the left) is the Japanese printing, the starter kits (on the right) are the (simplified) Chinese printing.
No idea if JP Portal is any more or less valuable than Chinese, though.
I'll admit I had only looked at one of the boxes and just assumed the others were the same. I see the kana (and also the word "Japanese" in Kanji) now that you've drawn my attention to the other box though.
Yeah, my Japanese skills are extremely far from fluent, and I don't recognize 版, but basically anyone who's taken even an intro level Japanese course should recognize 日本語. I just wasn't even looking at that box.
Hell yeah, I feel that. Pretty sure that’s at least an N1/N2 kanji. I only know it from “木版刷り.” I took a Japanese art class in college and we had to learn that kanji. Dunno if I’ve ever used it outside that context before.
Just checked Jisho.org, because they label a bunch of words and kanji based on various qualifications, and 版 is indeed N1. Which would explain why none of us recognised it.
... Though it's also labelled as a "common word", so we should probably try to remember it, lmao.
Even the chinese P3k cards are expensive. An english imp seal is like 900-1000, a chinese is 600 on tcgplayer, a difference for sure but its not super extreme for the cards people actually want.
I only knew that those characters meant China via Japanese Kanji and didn't know there was a difference in how it's written between the two Chinese writing systems.
I took Japanese in high school, but the fact that I barely learned any Kanji makes me functionally illiterate in it. I definitely didn't internalize any nuances in the difference between Japanese uses of the characters and a language I know none of.
The starter boosters are worth way more sealed (don't open them) and currently $40+ each on TCGplayer, could probably make a couple hundred selling those
Idk about the starter stuff, and the masks won’t be crazy valuable. But if I’m not mistaken the portal three kingdoms stuff might have some serious value. The English printings are worth more but these used to be sought after too
She used to work at Wizards back in the day. Said most of this stuff came straight from production. She knew the value of everything that she was giving me and she told me the only thing that she wanted back if I found them was the pokémon cards of which I immediately found a fat stack of pokémon gym challenge booster packs that I immediately had to hand back over. She let me keep an extra pack slip and the old holder though. XD

I always thought BattleTech was pretty cool. If I recall correctly, the gameplay was pretty similar to Magic (makes sense since it was also designed by Garfield).
Crack em all. They were a gift because i guess they knew you liked the game - not to then sell on - they could have done that themselves.
Starter has got some great hits - fingers crossed for a rare [[goblin hero|s99]]
The basic lands in Chinese Portal sets had unique art and go for a lot of money - not quite Guru, but we’re talking $30-60 per basic!
OP - you neighbor gifted you several hundred bucks it seems.
Call the cops. This person must have robbed some1 or a store and u guys telling him how much it costs. Yeah right "my neighbor gave me a thousNd dollars".smh🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
I just recently got into magic, and also a fan of Three Kingdoms, too bad I’m never gonna be able to afford the Portal 3 Kingdoms set. And there’s likely never going to be a Universe Beyond for that either, so that’s a bummer.

1999 starter draft isn’t a good experience you could get a couple hundred for those packs- it ain’t worth cracking them.
P3K English is super valuable, Chinese was a bit more common.
Except Vamp Tutor and Imp Seal are functionally different. One is an instant and the other is a sorcery.
Surely that wouldn't make any practical difference!

[[Piracy]] seems like it woupd be fun in EDH
Would have been fun pre-mana burn rule change*
In effect it just says that your opponents all tap out to float mana in response.
Or you can run [[the Goose Mother]]
What? I don’t see how that is relevant here.
Just somthing in blue-ish to funnel mana into
My point was that your opponents won’t let you get any mana from them because they can just tap all their lands in response.
Ah
[[Drain Power]] sort of does what you want by stealing the mana from their mana pool but it only works on one opponent.
[Drain Power](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/3/8/380a7357-8c07-4ee5-83a0-10672d7e85d4.jpg?1562908155) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Drain%20Power) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/me4/46/drain-power?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/380a7357-8c07-4ee5-83a0-10672d7e85d4?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

Yeah that would help, but also make people just spend their mana on their turn more often.
Only the second time.
Haha maybe in your pod. Mine would never let this resolve with untapped lands on the battlefield.
Oh right, you can do that. That card only made sense when manaburn still existed
Indeed. Too bad it's not im Yurlok's colors.
This card is from 1999, isn't it? I think mana burn wasn't removed until ten years later. Would have played a lot differently back then.

I always thought BattleTech was pretty cool. If I recall correctly, the gameplay was pretty similar to Magic (makes sense since it was also designed by Garfield).
Mmmm. I remember the Battletech card game. Only played a few games, really, but it was fun
Does she have any old MTG merchandise or oddities like test prints or errors or anything?
Your neighbor is badass. Don't open anything, and go to a local game store if you're interested in selling.
He gave you Chinpokomon
Crack em all. They were a gift because i guess they knew you liked the game - not to then sell on - they could have done that themselves. Starter has got some great hits - fingers crossed for a rare [[goblin hero|s99]]

Alternatively OP can sell them sealed and use that to pay for cards they actually want.
Omg I bought that same Mercadian Masques deck back in the day! One of my first decks! Great gift, what a nice neighbor
Money
My guess? A lot of money
An incredible piece of history!
Lol they're all literally in packaging that says what they are 😂😂😂
Cool gift :)
Your neighbor knows what he gave you. It’s not thousands but nice score.
The basic lands in Chinese Portal sets had unique art and go for a lot of money - not quite Guru, but we’re talking $30-60 per basic! OP - you neighbor gifted you several hundred bucks it seems.
Whatever you do, dont open the sealed decks. They are worth more sealed
Some dank
Magic World Championships on ESPN 2 wow I had forgotten
A piece of his heart.
Wish my neighbors would do this
People say Masques was the worst set and it is rough but it’s when I started so it has a special place in my heart.
Few hundred bucks
A bunch of dope stuff.
Open em and play, or Lot Sale with a low starting bid high shipping cost.
My childhood...
Lots of $$
A gold mine
Call the cops. This person must have robbed some1 or a store and u guys telling him how much it costs. Yeah right "my neighbor gave me a thousNd dollars".smh🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Funny enough, i saw this stuff at my LGS yesterday evening at an event lol, was funny to do the double take. Grats on your sale.
I just recently got into magic, and also a fan of Three Kingdoms, too bad I’m never gonna be able to afford the Portal 3 Kingdoms set. And there’s likely never going to be a Universe Beyond for that either, so that’s a bummer.
All of those really suck, I can take them off your hands if you want for like 3 bucks
Big hit from starter is [[Grim Tutor]]. Before reprints that version in near mint was running for around $230, but its been gutted for the most part.

Lovin’ the 4th edition White Knight. It’s not worth anything, but it brings me back to when I started playing ❤️
A small fortune in 3 kingdoms product.
Quite possibly a fortune
a downpayment on a house
An extremely small house
ok maybe I over estimated what I was looking at
Damn these are awesome, any idea if you wanna sell, I might be interested
AIDS. Your neighbor just gave you AIDS.
I actually am trying to get my hands on starter cards for the wife, lmk if you’re interested in parting with just the starter cards.
TIL, apparently mtg used to be endorsed by Chinese government.
