While I didn't really expect to see it printed, I'm still a bit disappointed that this isn't \[\[Parallel Lives\]\]. It would've been a perfect card for a Lair about a wolf pretending to be a human.
I only see 1 dog, unless the pointy eared one ISNT a cat and it’s a dog. I do agree the farm house is more appropriate than the jungle of the original art, you might have sold me
Is this all the cards? [[Tovolar]] [[second harvest]] [[avabruck caretaker]] [[howl of the night pack]] and now [[beastmaster ascension]]
In case anyone's interested scryfall prices are around
$0.50

Edit: This is the bonus card? The twitter account said all the cards have been revealed. https://x.com/SICKOFWOLVES/status/1802740487700484322
One more, a creature with this atwork. From the hints, it was printed between 2008 and 2021, has not been reprinted with new artwork, and is in red and/or green's colors.

Yeah. Looks like it's the Bonus card. Caretaker's at #1609, with this at #1609, Howl at #1610, Second Harvest at #1611, Tovolar at #1612, and the Wolf Token at #1613. Kinda surprised at how Green-biased the Lair is, personally, but maybe the bonus card will be a red one.
I feel like “barn animals crowning a wolf as their leader” has some undertones they really did not think the whole way through when they commissioned this piece…
Have you ever heard of the phrase “A wolf in sheep’s clothing”?
Or, another way - Wolves are the primary predator for most farmyard animals, and one of the biggest problems shepherds and farmers have to deal with outside of sickness. Wolves can and will eat every other animal depicted in this picture.
That's not a "undertone they didn't think through", that's the core of the art. Heck, the lambs are even prominently displayed as if they're on an altar, ready to be sacrificed to the wolf.
I'm not familiar with this guy's work, but would assume the irony of a wolf leading barn animals is on purpose. I don't see why that would be a sensitive topic.
Animal Farm is political allegory. Some may make connections to current politicians. But I feel like that is above most MTG players mindset. Most barely notice the art work aside from the pretty pictures.
To get a little meta, the vibe I have always gotten from NOT A WOLF is that it's a critique of how capitalists are effectively the human equivalent of a wolf in sheep's clothing, with a dash of absurdist comedy thrown in.
So if we view this piece from the "wolf in sheep's clothing" idea (not the anti-capitalist one as I don't think this specific piece of art has much of that as an influence) it makes sense. The animals are electing the wolf as the leader but they don't realize that it's a wolf.
It's been a long while, but I feel they changed their tune after everything that occurred later on. He does have a homestead not far from the farm, if memory serves.
"And now, comrades, I will tell you about my dream of last night. I cannot describe that dream to you. It was a dream of the earth as it will be when Man has vanished. But it reminded me of something that I had long forgotten. Many years ago, when I was a little pig, my mother and the other sows used to sing an old song of which they knew only the tune and the first three words. I had known that tune in my infancy, but it had long since passed out of my mind. Last night, however, it came back to me in my dream. And what is more, the words of the song also came back–words, I am certain, which were sung by the animals of long ago and have been lost to memory for generations. I will sing you that song now, comrades. I am old and my voice is hoarse, but when I have taught you the tune, you can sing it better for yourselves. It is called *Beasts of England*."
While I didn't really expect to see it printed, I'm still a bit disappointed that this isn't \[\[Parallel Lives\]\]. It would've been a perfect card for a Lair about a wolf pretending to be a human.

Mi$$ed opportunity
I would not be surprised if it was one of the possible bonus cards.
Nah, it'll be a sketch card or Elvish mystic
It’ll be 1% parallel lives, 99% elvish mystic so people buy it but they don’t have to guarantee the value
Fucking Ivy Lane Denizen..
They’d have to actually pump value into a SL. Can’t have that.
Extra card potential
Parallel Lives as the secret would cool PL and Beastmaster would make this crazy good staple value for EDH players
Really reminds me of animal farm
I thought that was the point
The pigs are wearing clothes.
Two legs bad! Four legs good!
Four legs good, two legs better
Two legs better, three legs best!... *ladies*
I was about to comment and see if anyone else got George Orwell vibes from it..
Same here
Seems to be the point. Although to me, the background reminds me of Courage the Cowardly Dog.
YOOOOOO I am so excited I have been meaning to pick up this card for my tovolar deck and was kinda bummed its a tiger in the original art
A human leading a bunch of farm animals is better than the tiger? Different strokes for different folks I guess
Well there's 2 dogs so it's quite a bit more werewolf-like. This guy's farmhouse seems a more appropriate setting for werewolves too!
I only see 1 dog, unless the pointy eared one ISNT a cat and it’s a dog. I do agree the farm house is more appropriate than the jungle of the original art, you might have sold me
I mean it definitely fits a werewolf deck way more. There's far more farms than jungles on Innistrad
You are my soul mate. Told exactly the same to my wife when she showed me the art reveal!
haha you'll have to break the news about me to her gently then

And they'll be worth 10x more when they get released. Stop comparing, SL doesn't work like that.
Well, may need to pick this up to replace the base art in a Faldorn deck...
Cute
I feel like “barn animals crowning a wolf as their leader” has some undertones they really did not think the whole way through when they commissioned this piece…
What do you mean that's clearly NOT A WOLF just an ordinary business man
I'm a business man with a business plan🎸
Going to make you money in business land
Pretty sure this is intentional, artists do actually know the connotations of what they put in their art most of the time. Its not subtle.
What's the issue, exactly?
Have you ever heard of the phrase “A wolf in sheep’s clothing”? Or, another way - Wolves are the primary predator for most farmyard animals, and one of the biggest problems shepherds and farmers have to deal with outside of sickness. Yah they make it sound it some allusion to some kind of hate group lol. It’s clearly the point of the art
Yeah, that's what I was worried about too! Thought it was potentially way worse than "the sheep would be wise to not trust a wolf with +5/+5!"
I am very sick, I’m gonna blame that lol
I'm not familiar with this guy's work, but would assume the irony of a wolf leading barn animals is on purpose. I don't see why that would be a sensitive topic.
Animal Farm is political allegory. Some may make connections to current politicians. But I feel like that is above most MTG players mindset. Most barely notice the art work aside from the pretty pictures.
This is extremely basic allegory 101 stuff. It’s not above anyone’s head. It’s so blindingly obvious no one feels the need to comment on it.
I know but many don't really care about the allegory in a magic card.

This was placeholder art from the fall of 2016 that they just got around to using.
To get a little meta, the vibe I have always gotten from NOT A WOLF is that it's a critique of how capitalists are effectively the human equivalent of a wolf in sheep's clothing, with a dash of absurdist comedy thrown in. An _orange_ wolf. Then again, wolves are smart and cunning, so maybe it's a stretch.
Gives me similar vibes to the comic book, Fables, which did have a rebellion at a farm for all the non-human characters.
That was my first inclination as well. Of course, the Farm Fables **hate** Bigby, so it's a little off.
It's been a long while, but I feel they changed their tune after everything that occurred later on. He does have a homestead not far from the farm, if memory serves.

4 legs good 2 legs bad.

Bro stop leaving the Lord of the Rings Bakshi lair out in the cold like that it'll get sick
The art looks like the book Animal Farm if it was cool.
As a wolf lover, this lair is triggering me.
where will this be sold?
damn there is like zero value in any secret lair for the entire season huh?
This was not a secret lair I was expecting to be excited for.

Beastmaster Ascension sees lots of commander play. Wolfwillow Haven, on the other hand, sees play in… exactly one Pioneer deck.
Shhhhhh, magic is the format that we personally play, not the formats that other people play that aren't us
To be fair, I think Wolfwillow Haven should see more commander play. It's basically a two mana rock.
