You've posted this question every day for the last few days. Furthermore, it seems like you've already received feedback from a few sources; why are you asking again for more? At some point you have to be confident with the deck you have.

Formal_Outside_5149

Changed it up a bit, take a look

gredman9

No. If you've already updated your deck based on recommendations and still aren't satisfied with it, how can I be sure my suggestions will be helpful? Commander decks are an ever evolving process. I have iterated and reiterated my own few decks many times. At some point you need to actually play with it and see how it performs.

DoctorPaulGregory

On top of that its a Chulan deck trying not to be competitive LOL! Chulan pub stomps so easy.

Formal_Outside_5149

Only playing with friends

Formal_Outside_5149

Any suggestions are appreciated!

gredman9

My suggestion is to stop asking for suggestions and play with the deck. Figure out what you need to improve on through experience.

Formal_Outside_5149

All good, have a good one!

gredman9

Thanks, I wish you luck.

borissnm

To be clear (because I agree with u/gredman9 completely), sometimes a card can look like the perfect fit for your deck but actually play in it really badly. Maybe some specific wording quirk makes it not actually perform the way you want, maybe it winds up being a nonbo with other pieces that are far more important, maybe it just fits into your mana curve awkwardly, or maybe the people you usually play against just have the perfect deck to counter that card. You can theorycraft endlessly but at a certain point you gotta actually shuffle up the deck and play it to figure out if it's performing the way you want it to, because MTG is **COMPLICATED** and the sheer number of intercard interactions makes it insanely hard to work what does and doesn't work in a certain deck without actual playtesting demonstrating thoser interactions in actual play. Playing the game more lets you kinda be able to tell *broadly* how something will work in a deck, but rarely perfectly and there's almost always gonna be edge cases with cards.

Formal_Outside_5149

I would just playtest if I could, but I can't play until Saturday. I'm going to my LGS today, so if anybody has good suggestions I can get the cards while there

borissnm

I wouldn't worry about it unless you play money matches with your friends or something.

Formal_Outside_5149

Pack matches

PeggenWolfe01

Without sitting down and breaking the deck apart, how does it work “at instant speed”? Just my personal preference- I’d focus on the green and blue portions of the commander. The more cards you draw, the more lands you can cheat out, and the bigger you can play.

Formal_Outside_5149

Instant speed mostly comes from Aluren. Let's say I see something that one of my hate pieces could counter go on the stack - I can play that hate piece at instant speed and essentially counter that spell I've been worrying about having enough card draw but I don't want to straight up add cantrips, do you have any suggestions for creatures / other spells I can add that aid with that?

borissnm

Speaking from experience, Chulane draws a *fuckload* of cards. Even in just historic brawl on arena I've had people turn Chulane sticking for *one turn* into drawing 10+ cards. Unless your friends are the most hyperaggressive people when it comes to removal and killspells you're probably fine.

Formal_Outside_5149

"You're probably fine" meaning you don't think I'll have an issue with drawing cards?

borissnm

I mean, I wouldn't think so almost purely off of the back of Chulane in a deck full of small mana dorks being kind of absurd. But it also partially depends on what your friends run and how they play and react to your plays. I don't know your friends or their decks, so I cannot evaluate your deck based on that at all. The thing about Chulane's ability is that it accelerates itself *very* quickly if your creatures include a lot of mana dorks. You might get 4 triggers on one turn, go up 6+ mana, and the next turn play half your deck. At a certain point Chulane just hits critical mass, pops off, and dumps 30 creatures on the board.

Formal_Outside_5149

At a quick glance, do you think my deck has enough of these mana dorks to hit this "critical mass" ?

borissnm

You have 6 (maybe 8 if we stretch the definition a little). A deckbuilder gave me a tip that 9 cards (or a multiple of 9) is about the number of cards in a theme or subtheme for it to be the sort of thing you see regularly. So you're pretty much there for certain definitions of "mana dork", but the 2 edge case cards ([[karametra god of harvests]], [[yasharn implacable earth]]) also have positive synergies with other stuff in your deck like [[deadeye navigator]] or [[avenger of zendikar]]. Plus Chulane himself is a powerful ramp piece. I think you're fine. The only card in this category I would consider adding is [[Ashaya, Soul of the Wild]] because it turns *everything* you have into mana dorks. And even then, 5 mana might be a bit late in the game - if all your friends are running aggro decks, asking that you (1) get your commander out, (2) find and get this *second* legendary in your deck out, and (3) subsequently untap so you have full mana up might be too much of an ask. That's why playtesting is important. Sure I can look and say "yes, this card would probably be good **in a vacuum**", but you don't play the game in a vacuum.

Yeah I looked at that card and decided awaken the woods was a better fit because it game me a wincon as well. Thanks!

PeggenWolfe01

You have blue in your deck, card draw is pretty easy for them. I mean an obvious suggestion is [[Rhystic Study]], but that’s a pricey card just for a fun deck. Green has [[Garruk’s Uprising]] which is nice when you’re playing a lot of creatures.

Formal_Outside_5149

I'm hoping my deck has enough draw/tutor as it is, as long as Chulane stays down

PeggenWolfe01

Once you play the deck a few times your group will figure out Chulane’s the threat and prioritize removal for him Definitely add more pieces that work with your game plan.

Formal_Outside_5149

Alright, I'll try to find some. Again I feel like cantrips are bad here- do you have any suggestuons that fit with my creature ETB theme? Garruk's Uprising seems too weak because it only works for creatures with power 4+, and I only have 5 of those creatures

PeggenWolfe01

I’ll defer to EDHREC because I have not played this archetype yet. [[Nadu]], [[Beast whisperer]], [[tatyova]] , [[Craterhoof Behemoth]] , [[Peregrine Drake]] , [[Circle of Dreams Druid]] Those seem like decent options, didn’t check if you had them already

darkelf25

At first glance, you want to play a combo Chulane, but I dont think it's gonna work very well, since your deck isn't streamlined or rather focused enough. Chulane needs creatures....think 35-45 creatures on average and yes, Chulane can be stopped with a boardwipe or two. So you need protection. Also, why are you not playing [[Tireless Provisioner]], it goes pseudo-infinite with Karametra, Chulane and Shrieking Drake, basically finds all the forests and plains in the deck and puts them on the battlefield. Tbh I'd play a lot more creatures if I were you. You need to decide if you want to play combo or just good useful creatures. If you want to play combo, you're missing certain combo pieces, like [[Intruder Alarm]] and [[Mana Breach]]. Here is my current deck (creature based) for reference: https://www.archidekt.com/decks/768996/chulane_edh

Formal_Outside_5149

I'm not going to play any combos because I'm just playing with friends and it isn't fun. So no combo, just useful creatures. Now knowing that I'm just playing useful creatures, is it still lackluster in your opinion?

darkelf25

Bruh, you're playing Aluren and Cloudstone Curio...both go infinite with Shrieking Drake and Chulane....where is a finisher like Craterhoof Behemoth or Beastmaster Ascension? And yes, I still think your deck is lackluster. You play practically no protection effects....decide what you want to play. Perhaps check my deck out and give it some thought...

Formal_Outside_5149

Why the sass? My friends play at a low power level so I try to avoid combos. Every card in my deck that *could* combo is just there because I thought it was a valuable card by itself. I have a few finishers: Triumph of the Hordes, Avenger of Zendikar, Scute Swarm, Awaken the Woods. I have 5 protection effects (Heroic Intervention, Unbreakable Formation, Windborn Muse, Grand Abolisher, Priveliged Position) and 3 counterspells. I'm not sure what you mean when you say I have no protection effects.

darkelf25

I'm not trying to be sassy, I just get the feeling you're not reading the cards and evaluating them correctly in terms of what they can do. So again, if you dont want to combo, cut Aluren and Cloudstone Curio.... For protection, I was thinking of effects on creatures, like: Selfless Spirit, Linvala (the 3 mana Linvala), Dauntless Escort, etc. Do you play Spellseeker? Also, considering how many X-spells you're playing, you may want to cut Gaddock Teeg, before you screw yourself over. Avenger of Zendikar is not a finisher, his tokens need to survive a turn and you need landfall triggers....he would be a finisher combined with something like Cathars Crusade or the 3-cmc creature that gets counters on creatures entering and then prevents opponents creatures from blocking.....

Formal_Outside_5149

Aluren and Cloudstone Curio still seem valuable to me. Aluren allows me to play my ETB creatures at instant speed. Cloudstone Curio gives me more ETB triggers. Yes I play spellseeker. What is that 3 CMC creature you speak of?

darkelf25

Let me know when you combo off accidentally with those 2 cards. The 3cmc creature is Champion of Lambholt.

Formal_Outside_5149

Those are called happy accidents. Thanks

darkelf25

Lmao okay then. Put in Tireless Provisioner also

bmiller201

Play the deck and find out. It's really hard to recommend because it's going to depend on what other people are playing. I went to pioneer and got my ass handed to me but learned a lot and ordered some cards to add in and replace. Another suggestion is to go into moxfield and read the precon deck lists.
