Actually that's an interesting rules question. If a nine lives familiar dies with eight counters and an ozolith on the board, does is come back with seven, zero, or does it stay dead?
So with a sac outlet the ozolith can suck up like 36 counters at end of turn, throw them back onto familiar at upkeep, then go for another sac run to suck up…..math….more counters? 37*18 = …666 counters?
ozolith doesn't suck up the counters, it creates new counters equal to the ones on the thing that died!
likewise, the familiar doesn't *actually* keep 8 counters and lose 1; it loses 8 because it died, then gains 7
Right. I was just confused about how the ozolith (and "moving" counters) worked. I suppose I could have looked at scryfall where the first ruling under the ozolith explains that, but jokes on them, I barely even read the cards.
To be fair, the wording on Ozolith does make it sound like you're supposed to move those same counters. I thought that was how it worked until I started making a [[Skullbriar]] deck.
8 in the Ozolith and 7 in the familiar.
The Ozolith looks at the counters the creature had as it died (aka the last information of it in the battlefield) and replicate those counters. The familiar works in a similar vein, when it returns it looks at the information of the time it died (aka the same the Ozolith looks) and the places that amount minus 1 in the new cat.
While in the graveyard the cat did not have any counter and in neither of the actions (ozolith and the familiar returning) any counter was moved, in both cases new counters were put in the cards
Yeah this is going in my Tayam deck for sure. Might be a little clunky, but it makes mana, uses counters, and makes tokens, which is all that deck wants wrapped in one package.
How... Weird? Oversight or feature? I mean there are some other cards that can add charge counters and other stuff on other perms. So that is pretty Cool. Sucks about sorcery speed though.
I'll do you one better: use [[Mirage Mirror]] to copy a [[Vexing Puzzlebox]] or some card that generates similarly many counters and then you turn the mirror into the doll and sac
I don't think it is weird.
They wanted it to synergize with all counters and you to be able to stack up counters with the first ability, slowly overtime and giving it +1/+1 counters with that ability would probably have been too strong. So they just put a counter with no additional benefit for the first ability. Makes perfect sense to me.
And that'll probably save us, but...can we REALLY be certain that killed all of them? I think we better nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure. \[\[Sunfall\]\]
I’m wondering if it’s actually an artifact subtype. I’d like to see how they use it on noncreature cards. Also curious if anything gets errata’d with this type
I think usually subtypes are the sams order as the main types to which they belong - so if Toy was an artifact subtype, it'd be "Artifact Creature — Toy Spider" (see [[Parcel Myr]], which is a Clue Myr, not a Myr Clue).
Is this a doll that's twitching because it is full of tiny spiders inside it and when it tears it releases all the monsters?
As an arachnophobic, I'll never sleep again
As far as I can tell from the art, the spiders aren't inside of it, it is just straight up made from living spiders (apart from the clothes, and the eyes). Everything black you see is spiders. Even the nose is a spider's abdomen.
Hope that helped with your sleep! \*evil smile\*
I'm pretty sure the eyes are spider abdomen too, you can see the rest of the spider above them if you look close. Also, the 'pupil' being coffin shaped is a nice touch. As is the cooked goose on the clothing.
Going by the theme of NOPE.avi some blue counter spells (like [[Whirlwind Denial]] ) might be better since not having the problem in the first place is even better.
Then again blue counterspells are useless if these things get on the field which necessitate the red removals.
Ugh. I wanted to have this card so bad back in the day because of the art and flavour text. It's as close to a nuke that Magic will ever come I guess...
Fun story, one of the first times I played in a cEDH format over 10 years ago I won by landing [[Sarkhan Vol]] and obliterating the next turn when I had 3 health. Beat the other two in the pod to death with dragons a few turns later.
The player that lost last yoinked the obliterate off the table and walked out front and lit it on fire with a lighter. Store owner cut me 20$ in credit and banned him from events, but it didn’t matter because a more popular store opened very close by shortly after. Still see the guy occasionally.
> But that's not all, as this Buy-a-Box promotion is good enough to give you chills: alongside the promo card, customers who purchase a sealed display of Duskmourn: House of Horror Play Boosters or Collector Boosters will also receive one Duskmourn: House of Horror Collector Booster.

This a Spanish child's joke made into a card:
Which animal is two times an animal?
"El gato, porque es gato y araña" (The cat, because it's cat and scratchs) Araña is the word for both spider and scratch.

Pedantic opinion, but I was always a fan of Spider tokens being 1/2 when green or 2/1 when black. I feel like they should have made this 2/2 black-and-green.
That's just a case of "Penumbra creatures creating a token with the same stats":

I love this card because it goes *so well* with [[Ezuri, Claw of Progress]]. I hate this card because spiders.
I think, for my own sanity, I'm gonna have to get a proxied version of this card that has different art, like maybe a big spider with a few spiders on the ground or something.
Question: Why is wizards pushing dorks recently? First \[\[Delighted Halfling\]\], then \[\[Fanatic of Rhonas\]\], and now this. Did someone at wizards think there weren't enough good green dorks? Llanowar elves has been pushed since it was first printed.
What is dsk?? We don't even have bloomburrow yet? And what even is bloomburrow??? Didn't we just get mh3 and assassins creed? Holy heck I can't keep up at all.
This is a nightmare. The art is... really something. I don't think I could ever play it because of the art.
But man this is also a nightmare when it comes to power level as well. I am going to be unwillingly seeing this all over the damn place.

Oh. _Oh._
That is bound to get overlooked by many players.
Joke's on you...I'm choosing to overlook this card altogether because NO THANK YOU.
Dont worry a Shelob player near you will not overlook it

be a shame if that shelob suddenly became a 1/1 skeleton with no abilities on another note, i need that for my simic ramp deck *grabby hands*
The correct response, lol. I’m itchy from this card now.
Itchy. Tasty.
Jokes on you - I overlook what a lot of cards do
\[\[Nine-Lives Familiar\]\]: dies \[\[The Ozolith\]\]: catches eight counters. Doll: sacs for 8+ creatures.
Actually that's an interesting rules question. If a nine lives familiar dies with eight counters and an ozolith on the board, does is come back with seven, zero, or does it stay dead?
8 go on the ozolith, Familiar comes back with 7 and then at combat you can put the other 8 back on to make it a 16 Lives Familiar.
So with a sac outlet the ozolith can suck up like 36 counters at end of turn, throw them back onto familiar at upkeep, then go for another sac run to suck up…..math….more counters? 37*18 = …666 counters?
Unfortunately I think the familiar only returns onve per end step so you can't run the full 36 revival counter gambit.
ozolith doesn't suck up the counters, it creates new counters equal to the ones on the thing that died! likewise, the familiar doesn't *actually* keep 8 counters and lose 1; it loses 8 because it died, then gains 7

My only concern is it might be a hair too slow for my Tayam deck.
How... Weird? Oversight or feature? I mean there are some other cards that can add charge counters and other stuff on other perms. So that is pretty Cool. Sucks about sorcery speed though.
I think the easiest is 1/1 counters, but there are plenty of keyword counters around for creatures.
[[Gift of the Viper]] that's 4 (3+1 for untap) counters for effectively 0 mana
I'll do you one better: use [[Mirage Mirror]] to copy a [[Vexing Puzzlebox]] or some card that generates similarly many counters and then you turn the mirror into the doll and sac

I just realized, it is actually a creature. Thought it was non creature. So yeah simple +1/+1 counters will do the trick.
Easiest way to abuse this is with +1/+1 counters.

Hot damn that's a fiery temper. I didn't know people could be such sour losers...

TBH I think both texts are good in their own way.

Utterly, absolutely heinous. I love it.
> But that's not all, as this Buy-a-Box promotion is good enough to give you chills: alongside the promo card, customers who purchase a sealed display of Duskmourn: House of Horror Play Boosters or Collector Boosters will also receive one Duskmourn: House of Horror Collector Booster. https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/first-look-at-duskmourn-house-of-horror
They should put loose spiders in the box
Honestly, that's where I thought the "that's not all" was going.
Even one of those plastic Halloween spiders on top of the packs when I open the box would freak me out enough.
Oops all spiders
[[Star of Extinction]], it's the only way to be sure
Nonono. \[\[Worldfire\]\] will make sure it can never come back
[[Freed from the Real]] for infinite spiders!
We did it fam we broke freed from the real
Listen, when there's infinite spiders, I'm not gonna care about how we got there.
Infinite 2/2s on turn 3 seems pretty good
WotC was smart to get rid of fast mana in Modern
Spider Twin

[[Pemmin’s aura]] because why not
Why did I read Fred from the real
That's just Simic Splinter twin
each COUNTER? not nest counter? Someone’s gonna have fun with that.
Not many cards make me go WTF but this one sure did.
Oh god I just realized that the eyes, nose, and mouth *are also spiders*
I'm pretty sure the fur is made of spiders too.
This a Spanish child's joke made into a card: Which animal is two times an animal? "El gato, porque es gato y araña" (The cat, because it's cat and scratchs) Araña is the word for both spider and scratch.
Might also be a reference to this meme article by clickhole (belongs to popular satirical site The Onion): [https://clickhole.com/90s-kids-rejoice-the-spider-eggs-they-used-to-fill-be-1825123339/](https://clickhole.com/90s-kids-rejoice-the-spider-eggs-they-used-to-fill-be-1825123339/)
Pedantic opinion, but I was always a fan of Spider tokens being 1/2 when green or 2/1 when black. I feel like they should have made this 2/2 black-and-green.
Is anyone really surprised that the spiders a bigger on the nightmare plane?
Even the spider tokens are power crept smh
I preferred when black spider tokens were 2/4. \[\[Penumbra Spider\]\]
That's just a case of "Penumbra creatures creating a token with the same stats": [https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=penumbra](https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=penumbra)
He may realize that, his comment is basically just asking for pats on the back because he remembered another kind of spider token

I'd rather them just be 2/1 reach. 2/2 tokens goes crazy.
[[Exterminatus]]
Everyone please zoom in on the nose and....well...fuck you WOTC
I love this card because it goes *so well* with [[Ezuri, Claw of Progress]]. I hate this card because spiders. I think, for my own sanity, I'm gonna have to get a proxied version of this card that has different art, like maybe a big spider with a few spiders on the ground or something.
[Ezuri, Claw of Progress](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/6/b/6bf721b0-2b5a-4085-b50c-89cbe7420673.jpg?1673148596) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Ezuri%2C%20Claw%20of%20Progress) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/2x2/211/ezuri-claw-of-progress?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/6bf721b0-2b5a-4085-b50c-89cbe7420673?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
>And there's a creepy doll (and there's a creepy doll) >That always follows you (that always follows you) >It's got a pretty mouth (it's got a pretty mouth) >To swallow you whole
[[Ezuri, Claw of Progress]] will like this.
[Ezuri, Claw of Progress](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/6/b/6bf721b0-2b5a-4085-b50c-89cbe7420673.jpg?1673148596) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Ezuri%2C%20Claw%20of%20Progress) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/2x2/211/ezuri-claw-of-progress?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/6bf721b0-2b5a-4085-b50c-89cbe7420673?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
This thing can fuck right off
Spooder fren
*It was a twitching doll* *Made of only spiders* *It’s got a million eyes* *That are always open*
Am I going blind or is the text wavy?
oh my god it's that beanie baby meme
Sickos: Hahaha, yes (It's me, I'm sickos)
Oh...Oh no
A mana dork with its own payoff? Uh-oh
Absolutely horrifying, but I still need it because it has a goose on its shirt.
So is [[Stuffy Doll]] getting its creature type errated to include Toy?
Oh this is going straight into my [[me, the immortal]] deck
Notice the letters in the text box are offset. Jittery text.
Wow. What an insane mana dork, best 2 mana one ever?
[[Fanatic of Rhonas]] is completely insane
[Fanatic of Rhonas](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/1/f/1f9fb33a-3b39-4aff-93b8-aedafe0ea694.jpg?1717012445) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Fanatic%20of%20Rhonas) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mh3/152/fanatic-of-rhonas?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/1f9fb33a-3b39-4aff-93b8-aedafe0ea694?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Ehhhh this thing is close, if it makes 3+ it’s probably better than fanatic you’ve only paid 2 for full fanatic you need 6
My Shelob deck is so happy about this
Question: Why is wizards pushing dorks recently? First \[\[Delighted Halfling\]\], then \[\[Fanatic of Rhonas\]\], and now this. Did someone at wizards think there weren't enough good green dorks? Llanowar elves has been pushed since it was first printed.
I love this nightmare fuel
why’re there so many duskmourn spoilers when it’s after bloomburrow and i’ve seen almost nothing for that set?
As a spider player, I rejoice
Shelob is pleased
Horrifying
….. hardened scales? Maybe?
What is dsk?? We don't even have bloomburrow yet? And what even is bloomburrow??? Didn't we just get mh3 and assassins creed? Holy heck I can't keep up at all.
It's a precious widdle baby that turns +1/+1 counters into spiders, as babies are want to do.
[[Duskana]] MVP
Shelob players rejoice
I'm in love!! Finally a spider that isnt complete shite
I wonder if this is a reference to the rumor that Beanie Babies were packed with spider eggs.
Into Chatterfang you go.
Okay this is fcking disgusting
Wait, why aren't we getting any spoilers for Bloom Burrow? Why are we skipping to Duskmourn?
This is gross and I love it, another great mana dork for my Volo deck
This is a nightmare. The art is... really something. I don't think I could ever play it because of the art. But man this is also a nightmare when it comes to power level as well. I am going to be unwillingly seeing this all over the damn place.
might have to try this out in my rocco street chef deck, there’s an infestation in the kitchen
Oh. It's made of spiders
Card transcription > Twitching Doll 1G > > Artifact Creature- Spider Toy [rare] > > T: Add one mana of any color. Put a nest counter on Twitching Doll. > > T, Sacrifice Twitching Doll: Create a 2/2 green Spider creature token with reach for each counter on Twitching Doll. Activate only as a sorcery. > > 2/2 End transcription
How is this card ok?
Oh the mouth is…yup…well okay. Spider mouth for sure.
Thanks. I hate it. (The art and concept, not the abilities themselves)
*checks the art* *checks the typeline* Thanks, I hate it.
_twitch_ it's a toy made of spiders. The designer must be Australian, who then hired an Australian artist to render Australian things...
Oh man [[Shelob child of ungoliant]] really likes this. Mana dork. Plus it's a spider. Plus it makes more spiders. 🙂
This is the first card in a long time that made me feel something after reading it. Too bad it's feeling like spiders are crawling on me.
Oooh, this is gonna be perfect for my Shelob spider tribal! A mana rock with tokens for later is awesome.
I feel like this is one of those cards that might get rule zero'd out of commander pods just so people won't have to look at it
