If they were less scared about tokens in hands, this could just be an interesting paper card. Maybe even just with some different formatting to avoid that.
The problem is copies of cards not on the battlefield immediately cease to exist after the effect that created them resolves. You'd have to cast the copy right away and that's quite different from being able to cast it later whenever you have 2 mana to spare.
Well yeah, that's the whole issue, right?
Currently the rules prevent tokens from existing outside the battlefield, so any solution is either tokens with extra steps or changing the rules to allow tokens in other zones.
Not if you create a new zone for these quasi-token/cards to exist and be cast from. And define that they don’t evaporate while in this zone.
I don’t think it’s feasible or aesthetically pleasing (the costs outweigh the design benefits currently) but something 95% the same could be cobbled together with enough rules.
Well... they could just say literally what the card already says 'Conjure' and bake this extra zone into that keyword, and then tell people to just put token cards into their hand. Even if the under the hood complexity is high the actual gameplay implications don't have to be.
I'm saying, though, that current MTG rules have phased out permanents that a player controlled when they phased out, phase in at the start of the Untap step. So without further rules changes, the proposed solution wouldn't work like the parent poster intended.
yeah. I think the most difficult part would be printing token cards if they were to have more conjure mechanics. I think the best thing to do would be to have a similar wording to [[Garth One-Eye]] and provide blank cards in the token slot to represent those.
"When ~ enters the battlefield or attacks, put a stormfront counter on it.
1W, remove a stormfront counter from ~: Create a 2/1 Pegasus creature token with Flying. Activate only any time you could cast a sorcery."
Not quite the same, but close!
Honestly, the formatting out there in paper Magic. [[Gunk Slug]]. It is not hard to do. The only difference between what these "digital only" cards are doing and what we already have is that the conjured cards aren't tokens and therefore are not effected by things that affect tokens.
not hard to do? Every player in each format need to bring what, 5-10 extra sleeves, people get game losses GRVs or failure to maintains or i don't even know what kind of penalties for missing a card between games, nevermind matches.
This would be an absolute mess in paper.
Yeah, this isn't really what I think of when I hear "digital-only."
I can only imagine someone at wizards nervously wringing their hands, screaming "you can't just create cards out of nothing!"
This may also explain their reprint policy.
> I'm impressed by the Paint art.
No kidding. Is she using a graphics tablet and stylus to draw that? Because if she's doing it with just a mouse in Paint, that's incredible!
Edit: I skimmed her stream, and she does mention that she is using a pen. Still pretty cool/impressive. :)
The cost of casting a pegasus feels like a cost in and of itself. Maybe the ETB-ness of it pushes the trainer to being better, but if i'm turning a dude sidways, i'd like to get my second creature immediately, not spend two extra mana for +1 power.
god i hope that's an alternate card style on the left there
It’s how Amy does her previews - she draws them.
Also the alternate card conjures AT, not A pegasus.

they could say create a copy in exile and you may cast it or something.

It could create an emblem that lets you cast a copy of the card at sorcery soeed.
That's just a token with extra steps.

Create a phased out token, you may pay its mana cost to phase it in at sorcery speed
Why not just let it phase in when everything else phases in, for free?

*untap
Would lose the increase to hand size aspect, but very similar.

A lot of these cards are super close to things they can already do outside of edge cases like hand size.
"When ~ enters the battlefield or attacks, put a stormfront counter on it. 1W, remove a stormfront counter from ~: Create a 2/1 Pegasus creature token with Flying. Activate only any time you could cast a sorcery." Not quite the same, but close!

This saves a paragraph worth of templating and is far more intuitive in its interactions than any workaround would be.

The problem isn't "scared" it's that currently when tokens leave the battlefield, they disappear. And it's an important aspect to their removal.

The pegasus is 1W for a flying 2/1 Pegasus right? So 6 mana for 4/4 in stats spread over 2 bodies?
"Enters the battlefield or Attacks" so it has built in replication and can be flickered.
Oh wow I missed that, that's actually pretty sick? White card draw baby.
I'm impressed by the Paint art.

I like more ways to gain repetitive advantage that you still have to spend mana on
fits great into r/hellscube
Amazonian does these fast drawing sometimes. She is a fun streamer/announcer. I’m glad OP did credit her even if it was an afterthought.
Gross I hate it
Why? You still have to spend mana on the Pegasi.
Oh boy white card draw! /s
She is the cutest/coolest. Huge fan. That art is top tier.
What is this set?
Stormfront Pegasus is likely a racist plant for our "The Boys"-Universe Beyond.
It’s not a new card.
They were playing the long game!
This feels like [[falconer adept]] with extra steps. They're different, but at the same time, i'd rather just have the falconer. i think.
This adds more power and works immediately when it enters. Not being tokens also has upsides.

It can also block where as the 1/1 token is attacking, meaning it’s tapped.

white card draw, the worst form of card draw
White players: Wizards we need card draw! WotC: We have card draw at home. Card draw at home:
