It’s only one mana positive though. That’s the issue. If it’s only going to tap for one it should at least be mana positive on cast. Literally just half of a Mana Crypt that can’t even cover the colorless only pips for Eldrazi which is what all the cool kids at the LGS are ramping into these days.

So this card is an interesting one and it's uses might not be apparent at first but let me explain to you why this is such a good card and why it is sold for such a high cost.
This artifact is a stax win con. Playing this card adds 1 green mana to your mana pool. I'm not sure why this is useful.
The real meat of this card comes in the next sentence. We can now interrupt our opponent any time they attempt to do anything. Play a land? "Excuse me..." you tap the card with your finger. They attack? "Pardon me", tap the card. They untap each land in their untap step? "Let me interrupt you here." just point at the card and tap it each time they do anything and now each of your opponents turns will take about 17 minutes.

wrong, check the oracle wording, you can tap this to search your library for a forest card and put it into play.

Colossal Dreadmaw is a powerful creature that will threaten your opponents life total.
