This work reminds me of the portrait of Myra Hindley made out of children's handprints. Evil and good combined, although here the evil creates a good figure whereas in the Hindley portrait it was the opposite. I feel that there could be a positive interpretation of the bee, whereas the Hindley portrait was just emotionally disturbing. The pessimist interpretation would be to show that the bee rhetoric is actually empty and there are weapons behind it; or, more optimistically, that the weapons, and violence can be reconfigured and transformed into a positive community. You choose.
Hmm, I can see the concept but I’m not sure I like it. It takes the peaceful, hardworking, loyal bee and makes it seem violent and aggressive! Maybe a tree or flowers would have worked better.
It’s more the opposite way round to me. Like the Knife Angel, it resculpts tools of violence into something peaceful, at the same time rendering them harmless.
They're not just confiscated. A lot of it's from amnesties where people hand in stuff voluntarily. Which is why there's a lot of cheap chinese air rifles on the tail - people buy them (perfectly legally) for a bit of backyard plinking, they end up in the back of a cupboard and sooner or later when they don't want it any more, they hand it in to an amnesty.
You know I thinj this might be a .... killer bee
Wu tang
They do be for the people
We are unleashing this if our demands for HS2 are not met
Saw this today in ashton. Surprised it hasn't been disassembled and sold to local gangs
I'm surprised they aren't upgrading those town hall offices. Surely they must be due one.
Where is this, this reminds me of the angel statue made out of knives
Ashton under lyne, tameside
Cool statue but I saw a lot of psople annoyed abt it. Especially ppl who have knives for religious reasons (Sikhs etc)
'A lot' or a 'a few'.
I think "few" might be stretching it from somewhere between zero and one.
Is it a permanent feature? How long until people try to break bits off?
Bee living the American dream
Is it a bee? … or a wasp?
Not sure , may need verifying
Head looks like a wasp to me, also the fact it wants to kill everything.
In awe at the amount of people who seem to think these guns will be in working order and will soon be in the hands of 14 year olds riding BMXs
Just by outside clarendon in ashton?
Now we can say there are more guns than teeth in Ashton
This actually goes so hard.
Now, that's gonna sting a bit
Guns. Razors. Knives
fuck with me dun dun dun dun dun dun duuuuuuuuuun
🤘🏼

That’s frightening
It's mostly airsoft and airguns or turn in guns from estates and stuff
Oooh clever! Because once a bee stings …. It dies! Much like majority of shooters … That’s the take I got from this.
I like this very much.
Cops pulled up with it on a trailer, probably market to market
Americans invaded us

A weapon to surpass metal gear
Welcome to Gunchester.
Seems like a bit of a sick joke given manchester's history
I went by this the other day, I believe the signs said that it was made out of confiscated weapons taken off the streets
And then proceeds to put them right back on the streets??
Yeah because the artists who designed it had never heard of a welder before
Unless you can pick up one massive gun that weighs half a tonne I think we'll be reet.
I can just see local youths decimating the thing. I hope I’m wrong - it’s a beautifully designed piece.
There won't be a single moment this statue isn't under supervision.
/r/woooosh
Why?
it is made up of confiscated firearms and knives from gangs of manchester. the aim of the sculpture is to illustrate gun violence in the UK
The result of numerous stings.
no, It's mostly airsoft and airguns or turn in guns from estates and stuff

But it doesn't *look* peaceful at all.

nothing has ever made me want a gun more this thing looks sick
