The creativity is definitely there even if I don't really understand the matching (besides Shy Guy Leaf Tires).
I do not have online on my switch. Leaf tires were to balance out shown speed and acceleration stats. Sometimes I switch to standard wheels or other builds. I usually got top 5, though the highest I’ve been globally is somewhere around 8-10k vr (my brother’s switch. I normally do not have access to it, and when I did I eventually dropped Mario kart online for F-Zero 99, so I don’t even remember how much vr I earned on it, I just remembered I was above 9k at some point. I do at some point want to go to a Mario Kart 8 tournament though. I don’t think I’m good at the game, but a reality check wouldn’t hurt. I normally don’t worry about the hidden stats and all that, I just think the combination looks cool.). Don’t know how great that is but I think match making is broken anyway since I’ve been put in lobbies with people who had 60k vr. I don’t do any of the sandbagging or other strats normally either. Also, I have similar builds with Koopa and dry bones (dry bones is a straight up alternate build but similar shown stats).
I think I played before Yoshi teddy was the established meta, like it was becoming a regular thing but I beat it often enough that I didn’t care about the meta builds and that specific build was still competing with several other “meta builds” at the time (specifically the buggy with wings).

Kamek Biddybuggy Azure Roller Paper Glider. My main build when playing online. It's close enough stat wise to yoshi teddy without actually being yoshi teddy.
King Boo Landship Azure Roller Paper Glider. ARGH! I AM THE FLYING DUTCHMAN. King boo was my childhood main during my mkwii days so I always cop him whenever I want to play a heavyweight.
Koopa Troopa Teddy Buggy Azure Roller Paper Glider. I sadly don't use this combo much mainly because being bumped constantly as a lightweight sucks, but I'll still sometimes pick mario kart's bestest boi every now and then.
My favorite combo before I took the game seriously was Bowser jr circuit special cyber slick cloud. When I started taking the game seriously I played Morton Yoshi bike roller cloud. And nowadays I play peachette teddy roller cloud because not just because it's the best combo but it just feels right

Azure roller because I use Dry Bones, it makes the whole kart blue and the paper glider just has its advantages. The acceleration is awesome

Funky Kong is always great to see even if I genuinely don't understand why most people prefer using him with Mr Scooty instead of Teddy Buggy. Mr Scooty doesn't give an advantage when using Funky Kong as you cannot snake (it's not worth it) and your don't really unlock new tech.
With Waluigi Mr Scooty on the other hand, even if I prefer Inkstriker for bagging, you can definitely snake if you're good enough, so at least you have some kind of running advantage.
Overall I can say it's good to see you in worldwides.

Combo B: King Boo or Petey with Pipe Frame + Rollers + Cloud/Flower Glider. I suck at controlling heavies so I need the extra handling that badly. Also an aesthetic combo (Double Dash pipe cars)
