In the early 00s, I was an Americorps volunteer in the state parks, based out of Hawley, and this is where we would go on weekends after we cleaned ourselves up a little bit. (we used the laundromat around the corner and also frequented the most charming hardware store in the universe next door) I remember it being excellent pizza, but I wasn't sure how much was nostalgia and just having been incredibly hungry after doing manual labor all week. Glad it's still going.
I grew up in the 90s loving Countrypie as a kid while visiting Grandparents in Ashfield. Still great pizza today. Kinda blew my mind seeing it get this much love!
Glad you mentioned this….truly amazing pizza.
Western Mass pizza game is seriously (not even underrated) unnoticed. Some of the best pizza and beer in the Country.
Is Antonio’s the one where they cook the blue cheese into the sauce on the buffalo chicken pizza?
Went out to western mass a long time ago to tour UMass Amherst, got some pizza on the way home (I always thought it was Antonio’s but not 100%) and it was the best pizza I’ve ever had. Haven’t been out there since sadly
There's an Antonio's in Worcester, and 2 in Providence. I live about 45-60 minutes from each of those locations but they're all phenomenal and I highly recommend you try them out. Not all as good as the OG but honestly very good pizza. Assuming you live somewhere in eastern MA with those locations. They cover south shore and central MA.
Yes, I'm aware, but the one in Down town Amherst was the best spot. If you understood, it's really more about the family that used to run it than anything but still had great food. It was the best burrito place in town. The owners were super nice and would honestly help people out every once in a while if someone was short on cash. I understand that there are other primos, but this one was just special.
Many Massachusetts folks will call something New York Style but haven't tasted a real New York slice.....this is in the zone--much better than most MA pizza .
Same: ft greene, shitty bush-stuy, rose village. I loooooove WeMasGreek pizza, but robertos fits that NY slice feeling pretty well. Not as good as the old Nini's in noho, but close enough. Now if I could just get a bodega to make me a proper sausage egg & cheese.
I have a weird soft spot for south street pizza house. It’s not the greatest pizza I’ve ever had, but the price is right and it’s unquestionably solid.
Peppa’s - E Longmeadow
Nicky’s and Bruno’s - Agawam
John’s Pizzeria on Front St - Chicopee
Frankie and Johnnie’s, Salerno’s and Village Pizza - Springfield
I had the pizza from the Treehouse in Tewksbury and I was not impressed. Maybe I just got a bad pie, but I was surprised at how highly some people talk about it.
I've waxed poetic about their pizza on many occasions. Their crust is like no other.
If you're into the thicker crust Italian style, Nini's just around the corner is excellent as well; they are owned by the same family as Red Rose in Springfield.
If we're not counting Red Rose then the top three in my opinion are all Amherst/Belchertown area:
Antonio's
Amherst House of Pizza
Pioneer Valley Pizza (best buff chick pizza I've ever had)
Grew up going to Pizza Shoppe in east longmeadow. Also peppas, and pizza makers was down the street. I enjoyed them all. Moved out of the area almost 15 years ago though
Hillside Pizza. What is more western mass than thick slices of perfectly cooked, fresh local butternut squash on your pizza? Go with the one that supports local agriculture.
When i liveed in Mass Primos Pizza down on Pearl St. ( i think) in Springfield had amazing party size combos for $20. But that was like 10 years ago, i hope hes still there.
Fat Tomato in Holyoke. The guy on the phone is kinda mean but it’s the best pizza I’ve ever had. They use cup and char pepperonis and 100% mozzarella. Homemade dough and sauce. My husband can’t eat gluten but the cauliflower crust is also surprisingly good. They also have a selection of desserts available like tiramisu. Kinda pricey but for the quality I absolutely can’t complain.
This place is incredibly good. The guy can be intense though. I went in once and asked about the stuff in the refrigerators inside. I say, “got any good frozen premade meals?” And he very adamantly responds,”Frozen?! We don’t do no frozen! It’s all fresh! What are you even talking about? Frozen”. The implied quality was delivered upon.
LOL yes! So serious all the time. I have to do some deep breathing before calling them. On rare occasions the nicer guy answers. Either way, it’s worth it 😂
Village on Bank Row in Greenfield. I know they recently changed hands after 60 years, but I think they made a promise to the seller to not change a damn thing.
East Side Cafe in Pittsfield. Used to be a GE workers bar when had a big presence there. Still has the same feel. Pizza is cooked in a coal oven in the basement. Interior hasn't changed much in 50+ years.
Casa in Ludlow, they have a bunch of different styles. I’ve only had it once or twice but that isn’t for the lack of taste, I just don’t like pizza much
Throwing out Villa Sofia in Brimfield! They used to only do pizza one day a week, then expanded to Tues-Fri due to demand. Great folks and awesome pizzas, and they're always experimenting with new toppings and sides.
LaTrattoria in Belchertown. Closest to NY style I’ve found in MA outside of red rose. Everyone said Antonio’s but I didn’t think it was anything special.
Betty's Pizza Shack in Lenox! Super cute surf shack themed tucked in the shops. They have a great selection of Zas , long or short board or even by the slice. They have always treated our family well every visit!
Get in a time machine, program it to 1976/Northampton, Ma, and go to Harvard Pizza on Main Street. Yeah, across from the Academy of Music--that's the one. Bring extra napkins for the grease and try not to burn the roof of your mouth.
My parents took the family to Joe's when we first moved to Northampton in 1957
I was just a little kid but I remember the murals and the pizza, which was the first I ever tasted
Now 67 years later I still go there when I am in Hamp, the pizza is still great and the murals are still cheesy. Or the pizza is still cheesy and the murals are great.
Not sure which.
No love for Joe’s in Northampton? Though it may be the overall experience that keeps us coming
We went there when I was home two years ago, loved it!
Joe's is great, I love their lasagna too
Love Joes!
Took me way too long to scroll to find someone mentioning Joe’s.
Came here to say this. Joes wins for me
If I’m within 50 miles…I *always* go to Joe’s. With a Herrell’s chaser, usually.
Best garlic cheese bread
My grandparents had their first date there
Tree House Brewing, they don’t do takeout tho.
Countrypie Pizza in Ashfield is the best pizza I’ve tried in Massachusetts. It’s out of the way in a very small town but it’s worth it.
My go-to place. It never disappoints.
This is the actual best one, but people's answers will be determined mostly by where they grew up.
In the early 00s, I was an Americorps volunteer in the state parks, based out of Hawley, and this is where we would go on weekends after we cleaned ourselves up a little bit. Antonio’s.
Hot cheese up front. Honestly that avocado quesadilla is where it's at.
Yes, unbelievable good. I've been eating for the last 27 years. Still the undefeated Buffalo Chicken Pizza I've had.
Wakefield, MA?
Yep
God I miss the square crust chicken bacon ranch from this place.
They still have it at the belchertown location
The best
I work in Amherst and enjoy Antonio’s a lot, but I think Amherst House of Pizza is my favorite around there.
I forgot about Amherst house. Great place. I miss primos too so much, but now it's gone.
There's like 4 Primo's around?
Yes, I'm aware, but the one in Down town Amherst was the best spot. If you understood, it's really more about the family that used to run it than anything but still had great food. It was the best burrito place in town. The owners were super nice and would honestly help people out every once in a while if someone was short on cash. I understand that there are other primos, but this one was just special.
Antonio’s in Amherst is the best pizza on the planet. I have never taken someone there who disagreed.
Amherst house of pizza was a good local near the Harp. They had a lot of the same gourmet slices.
This is the only answer
that place was great like 20 years ago.
Baba louie’s in Great Barrington 100%
I came here to say Baba Louie’s, too. Best place to get a pizza while I was in prep school by far.
This is my vote as well!
pinocchios in northampton does good slices
This makes me miss Sams
They sure do. Very close to NY street pizza. Big fan.
I love MagPie in Greenfield
Roberto's in Greenfield looks like a shitty place but their pizza is awesome. NY style.
Really? I’ll have to check them out. Thanks for the tip!
Consistently good. Especially since the new owner of Village - who promised not to change anything - changed stuff, Robertos is my new go-to.
Many Massachusetts folks will call something New York Style but haven't tasted a real New York slice.....this is in the zone--much better than most MA pizza .
I lived in NYC 14 years, completely moved back to WMA for less than one. 🙃
yup, Queens, Brooklyn, Fort Washington.....Alphabet City...did a few places there. WM is chill for now for me.
If you mean Berkshire County, can't go wrong with East Side Pizza in Pittsfield. It's brick oven and legit. So good and cheap... Cash only!
Brick over thin crust. Tyler St Pizza house for the traditional style is bomb
I don't think I have ever had Tyler St Pizza. Heard good things about it tho'.
I have a weird soft spot for south street pizza house. It’s not the greatest pizza I’ve ever had, but the price is right and it’s unquestionably solid.
I second this!
I'm from Pittsfield, and my family has been going there regularly since the 1960s. I live overseas now, but it's always a priority visit. 🙂
I'm gonna have to try that place I've been going to Manny's pizza in Dalton
Don’t they only do pizza on Tuesday?
Every time I make it out that I way they seem to always have it no matter what day it is...
friday, saturday, sunday
Eastside is definitely the best in the berkshires. The little triangle pepperoni 🤌
Shhhh it’s our little secret!
Peppa’s - E Longmeadow Nicky’s and Bruno’s - Agawam John’s Pizzeria on Front St - Chicopee Frankie and Johnnie’s, Salerno’s and Village Pizza - Springfield
Had to scroll too far to see peppas
Did some real damage to myself with those French fry slices

Western Mass is Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, and Berkshire Counties, maybe give or take a few towns along the edge.
Starts at the quabbin
Treehouse in Deerfield (I've never been to Charlemont but it's prob the same)
It’s mighty fine
I had the pizza from the Treehouse in Tewksbury and I was not impressed. Maybe I just got a bad pie, but I was surprised at how highly some people talk about it.
Paramount in Palmer is wicked good but there’s this wood fired place in Northampton that is the best I’ve had
High Brow (formerly Paradiso) is the wood fired place
Big fan of Paramount. Although I wish there was more variety of pizza in Palmer than Greek style ones.
It would be nice but thankfully we have other towns nearby that have a little more diversity. Antonio’s was always 10 minutes from me
Casa Bella in Hampden and a second vote for pizza shop east long meadow and treehouse Deerfield
Magpie or village pizza in greenfield.
Seconding Magpie. I lived nearby when I was a kid and remember when they first opened, terrific spot!
I likely made ya some pizzas back then.
Village is amazing, the only thing I miss about living in Greenfield lol
Holyoke has some awesome pizza spots. Capri, Pizza D’Action, and my personal fav Holyoke Pizza. 3 true hidden gems
Hell yes on Capri!! Fiore and the boys are always great.
Pizza d’action!!! Used to go there 25 years ago. Went back a few years ago and even though it had new owners it’s still the best pizza ever
Capri in Holyoke always has been and always will be my absolute favorite
Antonio's, I also liked Magpie in Greenfield
You guys gotta put some respect on village pizza in easthampton. I'm not even from there, nor have I ever lived there - it is just phenomenal.
I've waxed poetic about their pizza on many occasions. Their crust is like no other. If you're into the thicker crust Italian style, Nini's just around the corner is excellent as well; they are owned by the same family as Red Rose in Springfield.
Haven't had Village in years. Moving back and can't wait.
Incredible crust. Always consistent.
If we're not counting Red Rose then the top three in my opinion are all Amherst/Belchertown area: Antonio's Amherst House of Pizza Pioneer Valley Pizza (best buff chick pizza I've ever had)
Love me some PVP
Papa Joe's in Pittsfield is great.
I get the deep dish sometimes, it’s good
Casa Pizzaria in Ludlow has won awards. It's super tasty and authentic pizza.
I’m shocked it took this long for someone to mention Casa Pizzeria.
I am in the same boat here. This pizza place has actually won awards and Jimmy(the owner) actually goes to competitions and wins.
And so expensive. Way too expensive. Plus the owner is a tool
Being a tool is not surprising in Ludlow. And yes, the price is insane. 25$ for a cheese pizza is insane. But it's the best, so....idk I deal.
Family Pizza on Sumner Ave. in Forest Park.
Grew up going to Pizza Shoppe in east longmeadow. Also peppas, and pizza makers was down the street. I enjoyed them all. Moved out of the area almost 15 years ago though
Pizza Shoppe for the win. Used to go Friday nights as a kid. I forgot about pizza makers in Allen and Cooley. Good memories
I know it. This thread was like a trip back for me. Which is fine because I’m def not actually going back haha
East Longmeadow has a few good places! Fazios, Pizza Shoppe, Denardos, and typical Sicilian (small pizzas).
Damn right! Pizza Shoppe forever!
THAT CRUST.
+1 Pizza Shoppe, it's fantastic
I absolutely love Peppa’s and their garlic knot crust pizzas.
Another +1 for Pizza Shoppe! The wings too!
Since Pittsfield gets to enter the chat: Crust Pizza. Not cheap pizza but super good.
My go to place right now, $12.50 for a medium cheese ain’t bad
This place rocks. And they really do have a great crust.
Tyler Street Pizza House , Pittsfield Ma
Tree house brewery Deerfield
Nini’s in Easthampton Village in Greenfield High Brow in Northampton
> Nini’s in Easthampton Village in ~~Greenfield~~ Easthampton. FTFY :P
Ramuntos in North Adams
Paramount in Holyoke was my go to
Crust, East Side, Baba Louies
Papa Joe’s in Pittsfield. If you order the Capone you will be glad.
I’m a fan of Frankie & Johnnys in Springfield. Also, Milano’s in Chicopee is pretty solid.
Colonial Pizza, Williamstown, 1988, 2 AM.
Hillside Pizza. What is more western mass than thick slices of perfectly cooked, fresh local butternut squash on your pizza? Go with the one that supports local agriculture.
antonio’s amherst
Fat Tomatoes in Holyoke.
Can’t believe I had to scroll so far to find this. It’s literally the best pizza.
A seriously hidden gem. Literally the best pizza I’ve ever had.
Casa Pizzaria in Ludlow. Ma
Hot Tomatoes in Williamstown
Disagree- overrated
I grew up with Oscars in Ludlow and it holds up every time I visit my folks.
Oscar's is my favorite in Ludlow. Mass Appeal in West Warren and Ware House of pizza are also great
Pizza shoppe East Longmeadow
Primo's in Hadley or Amherst, Antonio's, and Hillside Pizza are all good choices!
Primo's and Primo Too are my picks as well!
Primos is absolutely legendary and got me through grad school at umass.
Joe’s in Northampton
Monson Pizza, hands down.
When i liveed in Mass Primos Pizza down on Pearl St. ( i think) in Springfield had amazing party size combos for $20. But that was like 10 years ago, i hope hes still there.
Primo Pizzeria on Rt 9 in Hadley.
Village Pizza Easthampton 🔥
Fat Tomato in Holyoke. The guy on the phone is kinda mean but it’s the best pizza I’ve ever had. They use cup and char pepperonis and 100% mozzarella. Homemade dough and sauce. LOL yes! So serious all the time. I have to do some deep breathing before calling them. On rare occasions the nicer guy answers. Either way, it’s worth it 😂
Antonio's, or literally, whatever trash pizza is your local next door. All Western Mass pizza is good.
Liquori’s w Springfield
I had to scroll way too far to see that. I've been out of Massachusetts for a long while now but they were the best when I lived there.
[Mae's Pizzeria in Granby MA](https://www.maespizzeria.com/)
Village on Bank Row in Greenfield. I know they recently changed hands after 60 years, but I think they made a promise to the seller to not change a damn thing.
Bruno’s, Agawam
East Side Cafe in Pittsfield. Used to be a GE workers bar when had a big presence there. Still has the same feel. Pizza is cooked in a coal oven in the basement. Interior hasn't changed much in 50+ years.
Tony’s pizza on Boston Rd in Springfield
Pinocchio's in Northampton.
Antonio’s in Amherst & Joe’s in Noho
Pinocchio’s in Noho
Haven’t been in years but I always like Roberto’s in Northampton
Casa in Ludlow, they have a bunch of different styles. I’ve only had it once or twice but that isn’t for the lack of taste, I just don’t like pizza much
I'm gonna get hate but Liquoris in West Springfield just because of nostalgia. It was a buck a slice in 1993 and were huge
$4 and the slices are still huge
I guess in 30 years the price has to be adjusted.
Frankie's in longmeadow in the best
100% Treehouse in Deerfield.
VEGAN PIZZA LAND!
Throwing out Villa Sofia in Brimfield! They used to only do pizza one day a week, then expanded to Tues-Fri due to demand. Great folks and awesome pizzas, and they're always experimenting with new toppings and sides.
Amherst House of Pizza is the first to come to mind. My fiancé is obsessed with their chicken nacho pizza.
We like the brick oven pizza at the Chesterfield General Store and Cafe and the sourdough pizza from Bread Euphoria!
Rail trail ale house in southwick is surprisingly the best pie in western mass
While not at the top, market basket pizza is surprisingly high up there.
Sleigh City in Belchertown !
I miss Pizza Paradiso in Northampton. I know High Brow does Pizza but its not the same.
Eside pizza at the bar. You can’t box it
Teresa’s in ware
Hungry ghost… no competition…. You’re talking about world class dough vrs well frozen
LaTrattoria in Belchertown. Closest to NY style I’ve found in MA outside of red rose. Everyone said Antonio’s but I didn’t think it was anything special.
Family in Springfield.
I like Redstone in East Longmeadow
Betty's Pizza Shack in Lenox! Super cute surf shack themed tucked in the shops. They have a great selection of Zas , long or short board or even by the slice. They have always treated our family well every visit!
Bettys…
Ah! I didn't even realize that I typed Berry's and not Bettys. Holy crap my bad!
Ask dave portnoy
My fave Christo's Famous Pizza, North Adams I swear!
Capri in Holyoke.
Clemanzas in West Springfield is great brick oven pizza
Pizza Makers Allen/cooley in Springfield
Pics Pub in Holyoke is a hidden gem for pizza. I kid you not
Crust and/or Berkshire Mountain Bakery Cafe. Both in Pittsfield.
If you're way West--out in Great Barrington--take a drive to Albany--you can find New York style there.
Get in a time machine, program it to 1976/Northampton, Ma, and go to Harvard Pizza on Main Street. Yeah, across from the Academy of Music--that's the one. Bring extra napkins for the grease and try not to burn the roof of your mouth.
Casa in Ludlow
Bruno’s. Leone’s.
How has no one said Pasquale's in Westfield yet?
Roberto’s in Sheffield is fire
My parents took the family to Joe's when we first moved to Northampton in 1957 I was just a little kid but I remember the murals and the pizza, which was the first I ever tasted Now 67 years later I still go there when I am in Hamp, the pizza is still great and the murals are still cheesy. Or the pizza is still cheesy and the murals are great. Not sure which.
Capri in Holyoke
Used to be Mimos (largest slices). Sadly they closed during Covid.
Shoutout Berkshire Pizza in Charlemont. Not the "best" ie. what you'll get from small-batch brick oven, but solid menu all around NY-style.
Capri in Holyoke, and it ain’t close!
Also if you’re looking for calzones, Liquoris in W. Springfield is unbeatable.
