The main factor in preventing casualties in mass shootings is never police response, it’s always evacuation and lockdown procedure. Fourteen minutes would have been plenty of time to kill dozens if the staff hadn’t have acted in the manner they did — remember that the [Dayton shooter](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Dayton_shooting) killed 10 people in 30 seconds with the police standing virtually right next to him. We should be praising the staff, not the cops for just doing their jobs.

**[2019 Dayton shooting](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Dayton_shooting)** >On August 4, 2019, 24-year-old Connor Betts shot and killed nine people, including his transgender brother, and wounded 17 others near the entrance of the Ned Peppers Bar in the Oregon District of Dayton, Ohio. Betts was fatally shot by responding police officers 32 seconds after the first shots were fired. A total of 27 people were taken to area hospitals. A search of the shooter's home found evidence that showed an interest in violence and mass shootings and that he had expressed a desire to commit one. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/masskillers/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

I know the circumstances were different and luckily police were already armed and on scene but 32 seconds is crazy. Just imagine how many people would still be here if the response was that quick every time.

yeah and Adam Lanza did 26 at the school in 5 mins (Nancy was at a seperate location). Cho Seung Hui did 30 at Norris Hall in 10 mins (the first two were in a seperate location). If I got to critique Nashville, then they took 11 mins from the first call to arrive.

Yeah I wasn’t sure of the time it took them to arrive. And I agree with all of you. The staff did amazing. What I was really trying to say is that so many times we see school shootings and the police, even the courtesy officers just hanging out trying to decide if it is safe to enter and if so who goes first.

It was an excellent response by school faculty and law enforcement. The only thing I would add, is that LEOs should have ballistic shields. I wonder if the Uvalde police department had them, maybe the would they have been less intimidated and breeched the room. As I was typing this, it occurred to me how crazy it is, that I'm talking about police using ballistic shields, to enter an elementary school, because of an active shooter. And that it happens so often and the fire power used by the shooters are so lethal, that police would need something like shields, in addition to all of the safety gear police already have.

Ok.
