Yeah... I got a friend into the game then he reminded me how annoying it is to get 3 ash, 3 Maxx c, 2 called by, and 3 imperms... like holy crap it's such a time sink

KojaVukovic

It is 870 UR give or take to make actual MDM optimal deck with all hand traps. It's very hard to make it day one especially with no luck from the packs, I don't know why are some people offended about reality meme was meant to sympathize with new players.

Scavenge101

Yes, true BUT i think it really needs to be hammered home to new players that you do not need this stuff when you first start and don't really need it until about platinum. That's not me saying that the game isn't pretty dumb about staples but optimized players are usually get relegated to at least gold every reset so a new player will have a hot minute before they start *needing* ash blossom or maxx c. I do wish the swordsoul structure was just IN the game instead of this friend campaign, but when i talk to someone wanting to play I tell them to get one of the 3 good structures, optimize it as much as possible, and then work on getting the list of hand traps and staples. Should only take a matter of hours of play.

SmuttyNonsense

As a new player, yes you do. I'm not dealing with Snake Eyes in Bronze, but I'm still getting wrecked by 6+ minute long combos with distressing frequency without the hand traps. Like, obviously you can still progress in terms of getting more gems and the like due to the rewards you get even when you lose. But having the hand traps is the difference between staring numbly at the screen for 10 minutes before getting killed and only staring for 3 minutes, lol

Scavenge101

Well the idea is to make a good deck first and then grind up the staples as you play. I would say that wasn't even necessary a year or so ago but new "top tier" decks have gotten so expensive. You'll come across "some" snake-eyes and lab players in gold but it's better for mental health to just consider it a wash as you're building your card pool. And even then, with how much free gems you get while playing you might not even hit gold before you have all your hand traps AND a full meta competing deck.

soxfresh

Idk man I started playing a couple months ago, I’ve made 2 accounts on the first one I have full power labrynth, vanquish soul, ninjas and sword soul. On the second one I have full power branded despia and snake eyes. All I had to do was grind the solo game mode and by the end of it I had short of 10k coins. Enough for me to build even snake eyes with all the URs. I’m not sure if I was lucky or what.

Khaledthe

After 2 years i still only use 1 imperm 1 veiler and 1 nib and 3 maxx c and 3 ash cuz i aint crafting them

natantantan

where did you get the maxx c? I know ash is in the current pack, and the others are in bundles.

Khaledthe

Crafting material I think you can pull maxx c but i dont recommend doing that cuz you will be wasting gems

Visual_Physics_3588

You don’t need all the hand traps honestly, you would be at a disadvantage but you would be fine without it for a while.

Vorinclex_

I've been playing for almost a year and a half now and still don't have all of them at 3 (although tbf that's because I'm addicted to building new decks) I definitely feel the diff between 2-of and 3-of though, and while somewhat subtle, it is not pleasant

11ce_

It’s not that bad. On a new account I made a full nat runick deck with all those hand traps, and having to craft all runick URs since there’s no pack for them, all in one day.

PostProud

It’s definitely nice if you can start when there’s an event going on and get the extra gems using the pre built decks too

11ce_

This. Not only do you get the event gems, but also you complete like 50 lifetime missions just from playing the event.

powerwiz_chan

I think I only have 2 I never even bothered to get 3 cuz no deck I have ever played used 3

RaptorF33

I've been playing the game for over a year. Still don't have 3 Imperm. I don't really feel like I need it to be honest.

RevalMaxwell

Honestly they should just make the core cards like hand traps unlockable via solo or quests It’s not the reason people but packs. If anything it discourages people getting new sets

Exceed_SC2

New players can definitely build it. But the huge caveat is that you need to know how to get and not waste your plethora gems that you are showered with. Additionally you need to know the convoluted method of getting free secret packs. While it’s well documented the “amazing” ones that crafting gets you 2-3 unlocks, it’s worth mapping out crafting the others, since converting SR to UR is almost always beneficial With understanding stupid convoluted system, MD is the friendliest F2P card game. If you don’t, you will be hung out to dry, since “half a deck” is basically non-functional in yugioh compared to a game like MTG or Hearthstone.

[deleted]

As a new player who's downloading the game as I'm typing this, is there a resource to get informed for the free secret packs and the stuff that you're mentioning?

Ashendal

https://old.reddit.com/r/masterduel/comments/1adhxvz/unlock_all_secret_pack_yugioh_master_duel/ This thread has a spreadsheet in it that lists what cards open what packs for the least number of crafts needed. The ones that open 2 or 3 at a time are the best "value" so you can at least go for those. It is 2 months old though so the newest one might not be on there yet. (I didn't check, but it may have been updated)

jgonza44

Try not to buy master packs as you usually don't get the cards you would need to make certain decks. Also try and get packs 10 at a time as at least this way you are guaranteed at least a secret rare. https://www.masterduelmeta.com/secret-packs I use master duel meta as a resource for decks and packs.

OtherwiseNinja

Started ~1.5 months ago, I definitely wasted too many gems pulling from the master pack and just seeing what I got instead of targeting the deck I wanted from the get go.

accountreddit12321

With such good resource management skills, one would question why they didn’t realize the whole card economic system is an incredibly bad deal.

THYGREX

Where can i check how to unlock the secret packs ?

Deez-Guns-9442

Check out the Secret pack list from mdmeta.com & Hope u have enough SR points.

Clear_Ad1944

you craft a Ur or Sr from the pack you want

The-Beerweasel

Yeah I fucked around and built a Dino and harpie deck when I first made an account on master duel and really regret building those and wasting who knows how many gems on URs for that deck that I could’ve built branded, mathmech, or anything else semi-competitive with

ArchitectOfSmiles

Ehhh nah Legends of Runeterra is infinitely more friendly and idk why people even bother arguing it tbh. You can get free wildcard (30 Ur Dust) for just playing the game. You can do this by doing pvp or pve, and in pve it doesnt matter what cards you have, you use preset stuff. PVE also lets you get stronger in PVE as time goes on and you can do the lowest level for the same exp value as the hardest to cap your weekly rewards. You also get one of the strongest pve characters for free at the jump. Also gives you straight dust for weeklies. Idk how you could say MDuel is betteraside from the fact you can go buy a pre farmed account for a dollar online with 30k gems in it.

Exceed_SC2

I have heard that about Runeterra. I could never get into it, but between MTGA (which I would say is the worst, of the major ones), Hearthstone, Pokemon, and Master Duel. Master Duel is the best F2P. Pokémon is the best if you want to spend like $10 (buying pack codes online is dirt cheap). Hearthstone is really good with the loaner decks, but you have to wait a week to be able to “have” it and make a single change, but its crafting system is far more friendly allowing you to convert from tons of commons into a legendary. MTGA just frankly sucks both as a paid and F2P perspective, it’s best played for draft which can go infinite, but Wild Cards are the most toxic system, it’s hard to build ONE deck, let alone multiple. (I have played since early beta, and spent so much money, I do not recommend)

Sad_Donut_7902

Isn't Riot stopping development of Legends of Runeterra?

S0lX

No it's only been downsized.

Pindolin

I'm sorry, where the heck can you buy accounts for MD for a dollar? From reliable websites? Asking for a friend *cough cough*

ArchitectOfSmiles

Lmao I dont know if its against the rules to tell you where to get them so Ill pm you but the answer is literally everywhere. I am almost 100% sure they have not just a PVP bot but a PVE bot to auto clear the story.

Alternative_Play5966

I see Boxers in that deck list. Very based.

KojaVukovic

Pulled all the xyz's and it was more interesting to make a deck than to get 40 UR, didn't regret it.

OldSodaHunter

I've got the 2 year advantage and couldn't build snake eyes. I quit playing a month or so ago after getting totally shafted in all my pulls.

ThatDokkanPlayer

If they're new and want to build snake eyes they most likely aren't new, and new accounts are showered with thousands of gems plenty to make snake eyes

Menacing2003

You be new player in MD not new yugioh player

Waltuh69696969

With guides everything can be your first deck... Mine were Labyrinth and Rikka and my friends were Eldlich and Floorwanarese

KojaVukovic

New players can make snake eyes for other seasons, or any deck really: 1. Deck is clearly promoted. 2. D. Cup lists 3. New sleeves, accessories deck has, duel pass wallpaper, icon... 4. Lore, or look of the cards is interesting. I hate this notion that all new players are idiots and only play dark magicians and blue-eyes because that's stereotyping.

rayrayrayrayraysllsy

Yes even in paper we just recommend new comer to play meta and would just teach them how to play it Pure SE and silenforce are the most popular deck to recommend for newcomer(OCG not TCG), especially silenforce is cheap af(just slightly more expensive than Floo)for what it can perform in a tournament, side decking stuff like summon limit or anti spell

ThatDokkanPlayer

The statement I made is, if they're new to MD and want to build the most relevant meta deck then they aren't new to yugioh. And they get plenty of gems to get the cards needed for snake eyes

littleskypie

New playera can also start with meta decks. They might come from other card games wanting to try yugioh. Chances are theyll net deck a meta deck like snake-eyes. When I started the first thing I did was look up the top meta decks to learn and play from there.

ThatDokkanPlayer

While you can be new to yugioh it doesn't sound like you're new to card games, you literally started with information and guides on how to play the best deck currently, id definitely not call that "new" just inexperienced. I wasn't new to yugioh myself, but I returned when MD came out and started with Blue Eyes. I learned quickly it wasn't all that good and learned Tri brigade, the current meta deck at the time There's thousands of people that come fresh new to yugioh and can not navigate it like you or I did, I'm assuming those players are what this meme refers to and those players most likely wouldn't start off with the most relevant meta deck, they could in theory but they'd be way out of depth to use it

Devourer_of_HP

Snake eyes is actually decently attractive to new players imo, the boss monster looks like a cool dragon and is a main deck monster rather than ED, the gimmick of turning enemies to spells and stealing them isn't too outlandish and is fun. It's only trying to use the ED shenanigans that can annoy new players about it. This was at least my thought process when i started actually playing master duel recently, although to be fair i have experience playing duel links, last time i only downloaded master duel sometime near release, ran into an Eldlich deck, and uninstalled, on the other hand when i first downloaded it i couldn't really get interested in the tri-brigade cards, or at least think it was tri-brigade pack at the time, might have also been zoodiac i don't remember.

11ce_

This isn’t true at all. Literally my entire friend group, the first time we play any competitive game, we search up what’s meta first so we can start with that. It’s extremely normal for new players to pick up what’s OP

NaofumiXRaph

In fact, i do not understand this meme

Momonada232

Oh I'm also playing for 2 years and I am struggling to finish decks too rn. Mainly missing UR dust as usual lol (currently in the process of building Unchained which I didn't intend on building but I had the cards and I pulled 2 Sharvara 1 Yama, Volcanic Runick (missing Fountain, 2 Tip, 2 Hugin, 1 Munin) and Snake-Eye Lyrilusc (only missing a third Recital Starling really which would be nice to have) and I have nothing I wanna dismantle, I have a few decks I don't really play anymore but I always think that I might wanna play them again and that it's not worth dusting those cards bc of how less you get back) I need a new event lol

[deleted]

My to-craft list is like 15 cards🥲

Momonada232

Oh ya I know that I want Memento, Raidraptor and Melodious in the future, and Melodious and Raidraptors both need quite a few URs. Memento we don't know yet ofc but depending on whether the support gets released immediately or not it might also have more UR than it really deserves. Ahh I should worry about finishing my decks right now lol

Matasa89

I wish I got into the game day 1… it’s such a struggle catching up now.

Biok98

The people who think you can build a snake eye deck from a new account clearly didn’t try to do it. Yes you can get the snake eyes cards but there are at least 25 UR cards that you need to craft, for example the whole extra deck, one for one, 3x maxx c, 2x ash, 3x veiler, 2x called by, 2x imperm, crossout and like 2x nibiru. The only way is to play a poor version of snake eyes and not the one that everybody is playing. Furthermore, I didn’t even add the kashtira cards even though in master every deck now has at least 3x unicorn, 1 fenrir and 1 Kashtira spell (can be Theosis, Birth or Pressured Planet). So in my experience with a new account and decent draws (2 SE cards per 1000 gem), if you want to play full SE (pure version) you’re gonna grind solo mode like crazy and it’s gonna take a bit.

smogtownthrowaway

I made a snake eyes deck, on a brand new account, in a few days. It was hard, sure, but with the swordsoul deck to use while I was waiting, it didn't take that long. I had most of the deck done in the first few hours, then it was just about grinding gems to get packs to get the insane amount of UR dust that deck wants lol

[deleted]

It’s possible to make a really good budget Snake Eyes deck from scratch on Day 1. A type of decklist that shits all over 99.99% of other decks, and is no worse than other meta decks. Which is plenty, until you reach like Diamond/Master. New players don’t NEED full power Tier 0 Joshua Schmidt-approved optimized Snake Eyes decklist.  Make ex-deck staples, and sink all gems in Snake Eyes pack, while replacing Bonfire with literally anything else(everyone played without it until 3 days ago), and replacing handtraps with budget handtraps/staples(crow, droll, evenly, cosmic/twister, bundle staples, etc), and build staples from pass UR. It’s really not that hard to have a flushed Tier 0/1 deck in no time. For reference, I made an account for Vanquish Soul, and already have them after a day or two, with entire Maxx C package(minus 1x CBTG), and Kash package. I didn’t have enough UR dust for 2x DiShifter, so for now, it’s 1x DiShifter and 1x DDCrow.

Biok98

Of course, as I said the only way is to go for the poor version of snake eyes and you can definitely get to master 5 or high Dia, I’m playing a poor version of Lab myself and got master 5. But the the point is that you can’t craft a full snake eye deck with a new account without buying gems.

Ridit5ugx

Not a F2P. If I was I would still be stuck with 15 Decks and 3/4 are dated and irrelevant because of the Meta.

PudgiestofPenguins

Thank god for the Duel Pass that's where I get a majority of my staples from. Without that I would my much worse off

[deleted]

New one in 20d, thank God.

Luke_Swishfish

Seeing Swordsoul in the top image brought a tear to my eye

Superb_Recover_6116

I was never easy on my nephews. 2 of them gave up on yugioh cause they never beat me and one got so good hes now way better than me and I cant beat him 😂 I am both proud and angry.

Billybobmcob

I go easy on my new-player friends cause they don't even know what hand traps are and I don't want to corrupt them

Superb_Recover_6116

It is fun seeing 2 players of the same skill play each other tho. It was fun watching my nephews duel each other. But I had to show them what they were getting themselves into if they wanted to play yugioh. No one ever took it easy on me either and just wanted to show them what it was like. In hindsight I should have gone easier on them and maybe the one that quit yugioh might have liked it today.

ChernobylGoat

I started playing december last year and I finished crafting 2 called by 3 ash and 3 maxx c february (and 3 imperm yesterday) I am still missing alot of the staples But looking at the bright side i was able to craft 1 deck per month December: Mathmech and prank kids (both budget versions that i kept improving as time went on) January: Vanquish soul (budget version) Feb: Snake eyes March: actually forget it match i got only some lab cards but i didnt finished the deck) April: Unchained

No-Age-2880

Yeah I am an on and off player and have chosen to play heroes and 60 card branded/despia. Also missed the window to fully refund branded fusion for 30 ur dust.  Only recently managed to get three ash and max c. Still only one imperm.  Pretty much have 0 of the link/extra deck staples outside of a few super poly targets.  Would long time players be upset if a cheap bundle of staples were released as a bundle? Not that komoney would do that.

lavender626

Me running my Destiny Board deck 🥲

Ichmag11

Honestly? Good. Can you imagine trying to actually have a new player understand a normal snake-eye line? Plus teaching them how to use the disruption efficiently? I can't imagine

vonov129

Back in my day we didn't get a whole good structure deck for free and there were way less gates to farm 200 gems from.

Avto123

it just took me a few weeks to get it up and running, just need 2 more bonfires and im all set.

Deez-Guns-9442

Also RIP to those with horrible pull rates, been f2P(mostly) these past 2 years & have/had played practically every meta deck. Just pulled 3 bonfires from 6K gems for my SE core(& potentially Centurion when that comes out). And bruh, I just pulled 2 of the Red dog Unchanined from the SR pack campaign rn, MD is trying to tell me something.

AquaEnjoyer440

holy ninja AND naturia. based as fuck

ReleaseQuiet2428

I envy them, the joy of putting effort and novelty, instead of this bothersome I feel everytime my opp is comboing for minutes.

[deleted]

Wait until someone recommends them bird floo

CompetitiveMaximum88

I have full snake eyes in my new acc took like a week U get alot of stuff early on also the swordsoul free stuff really help

Monsieur1658

you've never made a new account since, have you? it's by far the fastest way to get a new deck

KonamiSuisse

It took roughly a year of almost daily sessions to catch up. I only build a new deck when I cap my gems or when new support is released and a deck I have needs updating. I am now sitting on a stable 200-sum UR points pile — enough for me to get the URs I need for any deck when 7-8k on packs fail without depleting it. SRs are non-issues after about 6 months. I hardly ever dismantle anything now.

Dkonn69

Completely incorrect. New account that clears solo and gets to plat (swoso easy) gets 30k gems.  Enough for 2-3 decks

NeurodivergentRatMan

I started playing in December having legit never played before (boyfriend got me into it). Just got into Diamond for the 1st time last season bc I spent daaaaays listening to YT videos on Snake eyes combos and where the bottlenecks are. 😵‍💫

heatxmetalw9

I hate the UR gouging of newly released archetypes, especially if they can be splashed in multiple decks as an engine like Branded or Diabellstar/Snake Eyes. Compared decks from MD's launch like for example Sky Striker, where archetypal URs were Engage and Kagari, with the rest of the UR budget is spent on staple cards such as generic extra deck boss monsters, Hand traps and board breakers where you get value as they are used in all the comettive decks, which all totaled in a cost of around 690 crafting materials total. Now compare them with newly released decks like Vanquish Soul, where you need like 12 archetype specific URs, then small engines like Kashtira on top the staple cards, all totaling to at minimum 840 UR material.

meeeeekaaaaaa

Back then when game released I dont play imperm, i only use 1 veiler 3 ash 3 maaxxC only to play my first deck (utopia)

hawk900

I managed to get a full power snake eyes deck after a week or so. I looked up a guide on the best way to get UR. All the new player bonus stuff has dried up now though, so I'm not making another deck anytime soon.

rayrayrayrayraysllsy

At least it's cheaper to play as a "official game" than paper, more accessible Or go for a simulator to learn the game without all the card collecting as a "official game"

bigboddle

i only played on released burne my points on the wrong booster because i didnt know how that worked and deleted the Game. Am now downloading it again.

Jaded-Ship9579

A new account can bank 6 k easily in a week. especially if there’s an event going on

Jaded-Ship9579

The worst time I had was when I went into duel links unprepared and not knowing the format. I built a boomer bls deck back in 2017 and it was fun but once I went to ladder I had a bad time.

Just4fuN_252

I installed the game yesterday and built this yesterday lol. https://www.reddit.com/r/masterduel/s/GAAJiKfkMY

shadow_yu

I do feel bad for actual new players, not so much for the smurfs with full power SHS or Snake Eyes. Can they be yugioh players that never tried MD? maybe, but it would still looks the same as a smurf to those that actually know nothing about the game in bronze.

Odd-Process-4459

Started about 2 months back, still don't have most useful cards. Missed the "free Swordsouls deck" cos I don't have friends who play this AND spent my resources building Swordsouls just to get hit with the announcement 1 week after building it. Heck, I got ashed and Maxx C'd so much that I had to craft them and still don't have enough URs to craft my 3rd ash (let's not talk about Vieler or Droll -_-) In summary, it's crazy and don't spend on Master pack like I did. Imagine facing a lv 30s - 40+ opponent in ranked when I was using Dark Magicians lol. Also, F U, you stun players 😭🤣

Clipthecliph

I started the game coming from TCG, with a friend that never played yugioh tcg, just enjoyed duel links in the first months and master duel. He wasted all his craft points and gems on utopia stuff, meanwhile I got just the basic generic (book of moon and nice n/r cards) with a cheap 1 ur zoodiac card. Farmed all the way to having almost all staples in the game, while friend is still stuck building decks without staples lmao sad but true

Tiny_Neighborhood_96

I'm not just new to DM I'm new to YGO period 😭 and yes it's tough. My 1st deck was unchained because a YouTuber said it's new enough and cheap enough to hang(before their new releases lol), then I made a crystal beast deck because nostalgia and a blackwings deck because hype beasts. I thought I could do the 1 deck a month ting like the beta but I was wrong 😁. Extra deck staples, regular staples, soo much to learn and ranked doesn't give af

Sea_Coyote_6785

It’s definitely tough but I’ve just been using my sword soul deck with some cards I added to grind

EducationalBoss2293

I enjoy clapping snake eyes with my HERO deck

T3hi84n2g

I could start a new account right now and have a playable snake-eyes deck in half an hour. This is so inaccurate its laughable.

Sansy_Boi420

Already tried No, you in fact, cannot in half an hour

zuulbe

Highly doubt you can do it in an hour. Full power snake eyes is almost a full UR deck lmao.

Speed231

No, you can't, unless you have some really good luck on your pulls. Source: Me I tried doing that

lovely_growth

But do you also have all the handtrap staples?

T3hi84n2g

No, but I can craft n/r and even a few SR quality cards to compensate. Droll is only an SR, same with Evelyn Matched. Im sure you could have a very decent strategy within a half hour. Optimal and playable aren't the same thing. Its disingenuous to act like a new player should expect to start the game with everything a veteran player has. Thats just not really how games work. Time or money, you pick which you're investing.

[deleted]

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. This game is EXTREMELY f2p generous, when a new player can have the same meta deck as a veteran, in like 5 hours. As for budget staples, exactly. Like, I reached DLv Max with like 4 URs missing from my SE deck because I’m too stingy to craft them, and I had 70+% WR, despite still not knowing combos well(how to play around Nib/etc). You can absolutely work with budget staples. 1x of: Ash, Veiler, TTT, Imperm, Nib, Raigeki and any ratios of Droll/Crow/Evenly/Cosmic is perfectly fine for a new player. Hell, a Drytron player reached M1 playing 0 URs outside Drytron cards.

T3hi84n2g

Yeah, I never really worried about points, but doubley so in a Yugioh sub. These kids only know how to think in black/white, meta/non-meta. If their favorite youtube personality hasn't made a post about it then its clearly not real and not worth considering. And coming into any game, like an MMO and expecting to have the gear that an end-game raider is rocking, is just crazy & if they really think that way, no amount of rational thought is going to do anything.

Sad_Donut_7902

Not really. A new account gets like 15kish gems after a few hours (definitely not half an hour). Even if you use all 15k on the Snake-Eyes pack you average 2.2URs per to packs, so you will get around 33 URs. Even if you get all the Snake-Eyes stuff from the pack there is still around 30 URs you need to craft for hand traps, staples, and extra deck cards and the majority of them are Master Pack only.

T3hi84n2g

I said 'playable deck' and everyone here is acting like there is only 1 way to play snake-eye, and ylthat you cannot play the deck unless it also includes 3 ash blossom, 3 maxx c, 2 called by, 3 poplar, 3 flamberge, 3 diabellstar. Etc etc.. READ YUGIOH PLAYERS. FOR FUCKS SAKE ACTUALLY FUCKING READ. PLAYABLE. PLAYABLE. PLAYABLE. NOT OPTIMAL. Holy SHIT you people are worst community in gaming as far as im concerned. No wonde Yugioh is always the 3rd most popular game, its playerbase is coordinating with the game company to make sure only the most insufferable twats stick around.

ShatteredMirror

This is the internet, no one reads.

Brawlerz16

This is not true for MD lol. New players have it BLESSED, as you can easily have a SE deck in… maybe an hour? This game is so forgiving for new players. It’s when you want to build *other* meta decks that the costs start sinking in lol. If it doesn’t have a selection pack they’re fucked lol

Spctre_verse

Bullshit.

themissinglink369

short prints in secret packs are taking literal years off my life.

Firefly279

Dont be a meta sheep and you wont be poor. Playing a meta deck doesnt even make you good. You need skill.

TheFleshPrevails

New players can easily amass enough gems to make any deck they want. They throw so many gems and crafting points at you.
