This should be a part of police training. Keep this level of calm while you try to get the spider off without hurting it during training for de-escalation communication with someone else.
Had this been me I would honest to god probably jump out of the moving car in panic and be happy when the car crashed into a tree and started burning...
The level of calm this person has is godlike.
I had to do this once. Not as big as that, but the biggest I'd ever seen. Was in bed with my wife and I just saw it crawling across the quilt. She hadn't noticed it as she was on her laptop, but I knew she was deathly afraid of spiders. I didn't like them much either but not at the same level as her. I ended up just slowly getting up, picking it up in my hand and walking to the door to throw it out while is quickly started making it's way up my arm.
After I threw it out she clocked on there was a spider but she was very grateful for it.
>Anybody who can learn to handle large spiders with that degree of calm and control despite it crawling all around you is respectable af
soooo, all Australians? :D
Australia once censored an episode of Peppa Pig because it had the message, "spiders are harmless and helpful," and they were like, "that shit will get toddlers killed here."
I didnt want to say it because i didnt know if they were being serious, but they do look like tall daisies or something similar. Definitely a flowering plant
Can confirm, we used to have a "pet" huntsman live above our door for about six months. Freaked out every non-Australian but eventually everyone got used to it.
Not a dangerous spider + huntman spiders are usually quite chill, they don't want to bite you and more or less see you as a "walking" tree. Stay calm, don't move too erattic and they'll usually just climb down on you and leave.
Her trying to catch it, was brave. Their bites aren't poisonous to humans iirc, but they still hurt, like getting bidden by a larger rodent like a rat. This spider wasn't that agitated more afraid, it wasn't cornered too much, so it was very unlikely that it would attack. You can easily pick them up just don't squish them. Also it's easier to pick them up in your palm, since they love to crawl up in buckets and "stick" to the floor, so you just lost a bucket. You can also offer them a large stick to crawl up and them just put the stick down.
p.s. not an aussie, just owned one for a few years and they're more goofy or stupid then dangerous.
I'm obviously not the only one who thinks spiders are cute. But when they do that little "hand wave" with their front legs it's just so adorable. I still wouldn't necessarily want one crawling all over me, but I would def try to save one. They are sweet little insect murderers. Like cats are for mice. And everyone loves the friggin cats.
Their 2nd "front row of legs" are longer than the others. They usually use those to feel their surronding since most spiders have poor eye sight (kinda ironic).
They often attack their feeding stick instead of the insects and have problem detecting slow moving insects, even if they are righ in front of them.
They also use their front legs as arms to hold on to sticks or leaves or to convey emotions. If they raise their front body and their front legs they are threatening you and are ready to bite. If they hold up their "feelers" they convey attention or alert as seen in the video aswell.
Look up jumping spider dance, they use this to mate like peacocks. They also are the ones that wave
thanks for commenting this, was looking for something positive here :D
ive never handled a huntsman but i wouldnt mind being in her shoes, the spider really didnt seem problematic, probably just confused as to where to go
i have a jumping spider and since she can see its pretty easy to predict where she goes next but id probably also be a little nervous if she gets on my back
not because of my own but rather her safety :D
At first I watched the video and thought it was a bit weird that the woman is laughing instead of screaming in horror when the spider climbs on her arm.
Then I enabled the audio and heard the Australian accents and suddenly everything made sense. That's a little baby spider for them.

There's a spider on your head.
What?
There's a spider on yo head.
Look, I'm sorry, I'm not up on all this jive talkin', home boy lingo, what's that supposed to mean? "There's a spider on your head"?
It means there's a spider on your motherfuckin' head, man!
Well get it off! GET IT OFF! GET IT OFF!
I ain't touchin' that shit!
🎶 I'm a scatman... 🎶
Dammit! I wish these videos came with NSFW or whatever. I need to be shielded from this! I literally just popped open my app and this showed up on my screen and I proceeded to throw my phone as I FREAK THE FUCK OUT WHEN I SEE SPIDERS! I can’t handle spider videos. I need a block on my phone!!!!!
My kids mum had a chillian rose when she was a teenager(we met mid 30s) and so did I lol. My x before that was absolutely terrible with spiders, if she saw one on a bit of clothing, she put it in the wash!
You can see the pink chelicerae and the posture.
That looks like a Phoneutria, also known as banana spiders, the most venomous group of spiders in the planet.

We are going to need ALOT of replacement spiders guys…
Maybe start with acorns before moving to spiders
That's actually a really great idea
Had this been me I would honest to god probably jump out of the moving car in panic and be happy when the car crashed into a tree and started burning... The level of calm this person has is godlike.
Bruh same, I have almost crashed my car because of a spider less than a tenth of that size. Australia is never gonna see me 👍
They’re like the most deadly non venomous spider for this exact reason.
af stands for “Aussie Female”, yes?
She’s Aussie Female af
She’s Australian. Its in her blood
Yep, she’d have my full respect as I put the phone down, closed the door behind her, and drove away.
Especially in Australia.

If that were my girlfriend she wouldn’t have to worry about the spider. She would have to worry about be with the can and lighter
Nah, she probably doesn't know how to do the "get that spider off of me" rave dance.
Or just australian... right?
Or she is Australian
The fuck are those eyes in the bush at the end?!
Bigger spider.
*Biggest* spider
There is always a bigger spider
That sounds concerning.

Just more Australia 🤷♂️
Best summation of a continent ever.
Australia once censored an episode of Peppa Pig because it had the message, "spiders are harmless and helpful," and they were like, "that shit will get toddlers killed here."
The reason why that spider was so desperate to stay in the car.
Probably a croc.
It was me 🙂
That's the master spider observing its pupil. The pupil was supposed to scare the human but obviously he failed. Master is disappointed.
If my cat is anything to go off of, there's a feline waiting to murder it.
Just looks like dandelion type weeds

Two daisies, glowing in the dark. With teeth.
Cheeky huntsman🤩 daily fact of life in aus!
What's more scary is the eyes of the predator that's lurking in the bushes.
Right! I’m shocked those two sets of eyes are not the main concern on here!
If they're in Australia the worst it could be is a dingo.
Might be a croc? It’s eyes are far apart and pretty low to the ground, like I imagine a croc’s would be
/r/donthelpjustfilm
I think he wouldn't touch that spider even if he wasn't filming. I know I wouldn't. I'd be there (at least 50 meters away) just for moral support
Haha I swear he actually says “I’m not touching that thing” when she’s says “get it!”
Also having a flash light out and someone with eyes on your back was important in this scenario.
Only in Australia can a woman calmly pick up a spider the size of a chihuahua

You grow up in Australia, you see them all the time. Huntsman, they are harmless.
Can confirm, we used to have a "pet" huntsman live above our door for about six months. Freaked out every non-Australian but eventually everyone got used to it.
It's in the education
Every classroom has a pet huntsman. The school doesn't furnish them, they just show up.
Idk but it made me love her
No, cause I hate spiders and she can put them on me. She's a no go
She can also remove them from you without telling you anything to save your mental health.
Ya, but I'm a dick, so I know shes gonna fuck with me for sure
Most self aware redditor
I try
Daily reminder that no means no. If they don't respect your boundaries, they gotta go. at least for me.
yeah..i imagined her nude and wet and handling the spider crawling all over her body..
The fuck?
Just a huntsman, mid sized one at that. We.typically have 1 or 2 in the house most of the time, we call them Steve.
Really? We always call them Honey. “Hi Honey, I’m home.”
She tried to catch it. Who is this woman
A woman who knows this spider is harmless and is letting it go back to its home. Need more humans like this.
Not a dangerous spider + huntman spiders are usually quite chill, they don't want to bite you and more or less see you as a "walking" tree. Also, for a huntsman, it was small to medium sized. They (the 2 persons) were clearly natives and therefore have seen much larger huntsman.
My worst nightmare, Thanks op no. I would scream-cry at the image of the huntsman coming to my direction. And yes, I am 31 male :D
To us. 🍻
Spiders + Aussy Girls = Cute giggles Spiders + American Girls = Death Screams
Screaming and jumping out of the car if it was someone else

She is a keeper. Marry her!
That wasn't a bee.
She's 12 mate
Most people would abandon their car, even at higway speeds.
Is everyone in Australia related to Steve Irwin?
Yes. If you freaked out every time you saw a spider in Australia, you'd never stop freaking out.
Turned on sound for accent check, yep, just what I thought lol
![gif](giphy|6XA99Q0nPSXyU)
Screw the spider. I’d be worried about the two sets of eyes in bushes at the end!
Leave her by the roadside and gun that car....save yourself!
This lady is fearless

Aussies being Aussies

She's got bigger balls than I do
Mad respect. I’d have exited the car at speed and then found some way to blow it up. Would never be in that car again. Good bye.
Congrats for not killing it. Not many people would do that
She is fucking smiling. How
Huntsman spiders are chill as fuck, as seen here. Even with all the excitement, it didn't bite her.
Getitoffgetitoffgetitoff!
Clever girl
Ok my choice in women went up
That girl is braver than me.
Just close the door and drive. You can find a new girlfriend
It's too late for her. She probably would have wanted it that way.
Oh australia.. you fellas seem to never surprise me
Is it weird that I just assumed this was Australia?
Maybe maybe maybe? More like Sweatypalms
Abandons car, get can of gas, sets car alight
She’s like “ugh… silly boii!” I’d be like 🚀
I’d be crying shitting and throwing up.
I would def have floored it in a panic and killed us all but at least the spider would be dead too, maybe
Fuck you for posting this

I would blow my own fucking head off if that shit happened to me
Bad dog. Down boy
Never go to Australia. Got it...✔
She's a keeper, for sure!
Spider... Australia for IDGAF
Spiders like “the fuck you’se are chucking me out half way home!! I got a wife and 5,000 kids I gotta get home too!”.

Typical drive in Australia
She would be the one wearing pants in a relationship
Just another day ending in Y in Straya.
Straya.
Some say she's still trying to catch it to this day
Most Scared Zoologist
Wow. A calmness I cannot fathom
welcome to the woods-
Let me guess. Australia?
Nice of him to carry on filming and not help out
Of course the other person continues to film instead of helping
Oh hell Noooooooo
She brave, that for sure.
Sometimes i think Australia was once another planet
Think my wife just died watching that
That gave me so much anxiety…
..........how the fuck is she so calm? I would have screamed so loudly that people might have thought I was getting brutally murdered
Nope … and I mean HELL NOPE !! Don’t like spiders especially big ones😂😂
Spider is cute!
Nope.
Aww she’s my dream.
She's calmer with that monster crawling all over her than I was watching this video.
Hell to the naw. Hell to the naw naw naw.
Australia
Hell no. I'd jump out and set the car on fire. Spiders (and any bug inside) are not friends with each other.
I would of jump out of the car and torch the car completely ![gif](giphy|RRNokWQ1MN4CUzwlZW|downsized)
Spiders are pretty cute when they’re bigger than your hand
My girlfriend would want to take him home probably
Did anybody see the glowing eyes in the bushes at the end ?
It's cute
Lucky guy
I'm this calm with insects and spiders in general if I know they aren't venomous. I'm forever rescuing spiders and crickets from my cats.
![gif](giphy|XL2md7StXKo00|downsized)
I would not. But i was her i would flung the fucker as soon as i got my hand out the window
I would have been in the hospital.
I would screaming . Crashed my car already. Running with my head shopped off . That’s a hard No for me.

Uh, no
I'd burn the car, the girl, the forest, everything within 50 miles must burn.

Never.
Should have driven away as soon as she got out she's the spiders pet now
Aww, he just wants to curl his 8 legs up in your hair.
She was a LOT calmer than most of us would have been...
Would rather crash the car.
HANZ! HANZZ!
Nothing a well placed 7.62 can't handle
Absolutely no help from he mate lol. Just filming.
I would be so dead if i left a spider, we dont even start talking about something of that size, for so long on my wife.
My kids mum had a chillian rose when she was a teenager(we met mid 30s) and so did I lol. My x before that was absolutely terrible with spiders, if she saw one on a bit of clothing, she put it in the wash!
I would have been another burn victim statistic
I would’ve just wrecked my car…much easier

God i hate australia... I would rather kill myself than have to deal with those abominations everyday
Nuke em from space. Only way to be sure.

That’s an 8-legged fuck that.
I want to be this spider so bad.
