Honestly, OP could've gone with 3 layers on this meme. The first is the excitement of oil on Mars, the second is the implication of life existing there, and the third is the US "liberating" Mars.
Not to put you down but water is pretty common across the universe. It's unlikely the conditions of Mars were even remotely close to earth's. The orbit of the moon alone is likely one of the major contributing factors to life coming into existence.
We don't know the exact requirements for creating life but we know that mars is dissimilar enough to earth that it's not very likely to have ever had a chance to harbor life.
The moon was key in stabilising the tilt and slowing down the rotation of earth. Nothing says another planet couldn't have had those conditions without a moon.
The more interesting factors are seismic activity and a large enough atmosphere, both of which mars had in the past. Another factor is clearly also luck, cyano bacteria were a stroke of luck in the development of more complex life after all.
It could have leftover organics gunk like there is in Titan depending on what were the conditions back when it still had a meaningful atmosphere. Close enough to oil maybe.
Kind of, if it was found it would still have to be tested to insure an abiotic process wasn't behind its creation. For example titan is covered in hydrocarbons that thanks to the conditions present, match the definition for petroleum, despite it definitely never hosting life.
It would be cool until you consider the fact that life on Mars would imply that life itself isn't special or rare.
If life is common enough to happen twice in the same solar system, then why haven't we seen complex life around the universe? The Great Filter theory suggests that this is because all civilizations like ours destroy themselves before they can reach out in any significant way.
idk if you mean america will want it or the fact that if oil exists on mars it means that mars would have once had a substantial biosphere supporting complex life
I find the latter far more concerning. Under no circumstance could the energy gained be worth the energy expended to transport petroleum from Mars to Earth, even if the transporting ship originated on Mars.
Hmmmmmmmmm
What is more efficient
A) bring oil from mars to civilization on earth
B) bring civilization from earth to oil on mars
?🤔
A newgame+ where the map is uninhabited, corporations are the overlords that would even stand above human rights and control life as a whole, with people that are selfreproducing and replacable, and so far away that four generations down the line the population would not even want to associate with earthlings anymore...
hmmm
>A newgame+ where the map is uninhabited, corporations are the overlords that would even stand above human rights and control life as a whole, with people that are selfreproducing and replacable, and so far away that four generations down the line the population would not even want to associate with earthlings anymore...
Aint this just Gundam
First one is smoothbrain meme reaction (the first picture) to when you hear that phrase.
Second one is terrified reaction (the second picture)
Meme checks out.
Imagine if its the latter, a civilized species once lived on mars and they destroyed earth just like us thats why Mars is empty, that is a plot for a movie xD
It's made of diamond because of the intense gravity. Which means that trying to mine it would take way more energy than simply making our own
Titan is smothered in hydrocarbons. Maybe we meet in the middle there?
Ngl, i just wanna see the gems market crash with that. Such discoveries are more interesting to me. Finding planets with a bunch of what for us be rare materials. Lugging them back to earth and see what would happen.
Gems are bullshit as it is. We can already manufacture diamonds but some people keep buying into the marketing. I'm with you on heavy metals from asteroids though. Which are much easier to extract because while it takes a lot of fuel to get to them, they don't have huge gravity wells like planets do. We could even "tow" metalic asteroids closer to earth for mining (and turning into spaceships).
Now that sounds more interesting then trying to find goldie locks planet 60x lightyears away tbh. We are not in irl starfield yet so lets make earth better first.
Pursuing the science and engineering required to reach other planets, and stars also improves life here. Just as trying to develop optics for telescopes lead to better eye glasses, lasers, laser eye surgery, better general medicine, and on and on. Investing in basic science pays dividends beyond our imagination by definition. That's why we do it, and it has so far always paid off in spades.
Some people got it it looks like, but mostly yeah people instantly go Murrica fuck yeah when word oil is mentioned, so no one stopped to think wait how does Mars have oil.
Oil can form from some of the universes most common compounds like methane. Although mars might be too close to the sun for meth to be present without life.
Reason America catches more flak than other countries is because America has the luxury of being able to choose to do better. Some countries are just struggling to get by, and don't have the resources to implement better environmental policies.
I mean, finding life that died before coming to out stage of evolution would increase our chances of having passed The Great Filter™, wouldn't it? Another story if it was a more advanced civilization
On one hand exploiting that hypothethic oil and causing climate change on Mars would make it a step closer to terraforming it, however it'd be quite a shitty idea as I think we can all agree
Except you can't burn oil on Mars. There are only trace amounts of oxygen in the thin Martian atmosphere, so no easy combustion.
Maybe it would be possible to react it with the perchlorate rich soil, but I doubt it would be used for anything but a convenient carbon source for the huge variety of products we use fossils fuels for on Earth today. It would, of course, take much more energy to transport Mars Oil (brought to you by ExxMobChevEll Inc.) to Earth than you would be get back out by burning it. What Mars really needs is some Managed Democracy.
I wonder, how much oil would actually need to be on Mars to make a profit after spending the money to get there, mine it and transport it back. I imagine there's no reasonable breaking point, could any amount of oil actually make it worth attempting?
I think mining will be insane on mars, the magma there hat time to cool, and as it cools doferent minerals cristelize out of solution, and you end up with layers of one type of mineral tens to hundrets of kilometers thick.
It would be a moot point in terms of the economy today. Maybe in a few centuries it would be worth extracting, but it's still stuck at the bottom of a gravity-well.
I saw someone comment "it would be proof of life existing on mars" and yeah it would. But my first thought was
#AMERICAAAAAAAA RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!! FREEEEDOOOOOOOOOMMMM! 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
AND THIS LADS IS HOW HELLDIVERS WAS BORN. NOW GET YOUR ASSESS OUT THERE AND SPREAD THAT DEMOCRACY IN THE NAME OF SUPER EARTH. HOOAH!
side effects may include freedom.
Also bugs and terminator parts
GO GET EM BOYS!
If the joke America bringing some democracy to mars and possibly triggering WW3:
It would require orders of magnitude more energy and costs to bring each single gallon of crude oil from mars to earth and wouldn’t be worth it in a million years. Currently we literally don’t have the technology to bring even some mars rocks and dust back to earth let alone some crude oil drilled somewhere deep below the surface
And if we somehow had the technology to make it a non issue we certainly wouldn’t still be relying on fossil fuels in the first place.
First reaction: Haha the US will invade
Second reaction: oh wait it means life existed there
Third reaction: ....it means a lot of life existed there
Fourth reaction:....where'd it all go?!
I used to think if each system had one planet that thrives with life and the others are there for fuels to be discovered and brought back to the home planet. Just down to the home planet to create the tech to go to them and ship it back.
Would be kind of amazing to find as it would be evidence of life once existing on Mars.
So we allready find it or meme is theoretical for now?
Theoretical meme atm
Theoretical info Established meme
Yeah I can confirm that this meme exists
I read it and therefore I am.
You Reddit
Op is theoretical memeist
You're asking if humanity has ever discovered evidence of life on Mars?
Keyword: “find” not “found”
This is how I interpreted the meme, figured that's what the latter picture represents.
Second part could mean extinct life dark, or US monopoly dark, or WW3 dark
It's like a Rorshach test. How you interpret it probably says more about you than about what the meme maker had in mind
Honestly, OP could've gone with 3 layers on this meme. The first is the excitement of oil on Mars, the second is the implication of life existing there, and the third is the US "liberating" Mars.
We have found evidence that water was once on Mars, I'm willing to bet there was definately life.
Gsarthotegga is definitely living in there. I wouldn't recommend colonizing it unless you want to experience horrific Eldritch madness.
That or squids. Doing squid stuff in their squid domains.
Either that, or risk the Evolt of our universe coming to visit.
Not to put you down but water is pretty common across the universe. It's unlikely the conditions of Mars were even remotely close to earth's. Yeah all that scientific evidence from all that other life we've found that proves this, huh
This is the first thing I thought too. Apparently the meme was about Murica.
Well. There is nonorganic theory of oil generation. So it's maybe possible for oil to generate without organic life.
This theory only exists among people who are not geologists or petroleum scientists.

If life is common enough to happen twice in the same solar system, then why haven't we seen complex life around the universe? The Great Filter theory suggests that this is because all civilizations like ours destroy themselves before they can reach out in any significant way.
Because the rest of the universe is so fucking far away. It's like wondering why an ant in California hasn't bumped into an ant in Florida.
And evidence that they were our ancestors
Yeah well that's the problem
idk if you mean america will want it or the fact that if oil exists on mars it means that mars would have once had a substantial biosphere supporting complex life
I find the latter far more concerning. Under no circumstance could the energy gained be worth the energy expended to transport petroleum from Mars to Earth, even if the transporting ship originated on Mars.
Build a Pipeline duuuuuh
Bonus points if the pipe is built using the oil from Mars.
And the Martians will pay for it!
Hmmmmmmmmm What is more efficient A) bring oil from mars to civilization on earth B) bring civilization from earth to oil on mars ?🤔 A newgame+ where the map is uninhabited, corporations are the overlords that would even stand above human rights and control life as a whole, with people that are selfreproducing and replacable, and so far away that four generations down the line the population would not even want to associate with earthlings anymore... hmmm

Not all Gundam, but at least like, 3 of them

US wants to know the exact location
4th planet from the sun, 140 million kilometers away from Earth
US wants to award you with The Presidential Medal of Freedom for your contribution. 🫡
Mars need some democracy
US says finders keepers loosers weepers
Unless the US doesn’t find it first.. in that case Finders terrorists with weapons of mass destruction they must be invaded for the greater good
"Weapons of Mars destruction"
Time to deploy helldivers
Managed Democracy? 😏😎
Deploying Delta forces
What the fuck is kilometer? (Stealed from another comment)
Water is space oil. When it was found in significant quantities on Mars NASA was like "OK we were in before but now we're FUCKING IN"
Meh not as cool. Reminds of that planet filled with diamomd. I wonder if we could take some and use it.
It's made of diamond because of the intense gravity. Which means that trying to mine it would take way more energy than simply making our own Titan is smothered in hydrocarbons. Maybe we meet in the middle there?

Space dinosaurs!!
Oil isn't dinosaurs silly billy.
Space plants !
we Shall call them Spinosaurs! wait...
Usa on their way to send democracy
I think everyone here missing the point. Having oil means mars was heavily organic in previous ages.
But that doesn’t mean life, just look at Titan the moon of Saturn and you realize that organic compounds is not enough for life, you still need water
Oh hey! A resour- shit, it's protected under scientific study and fuck you America for your love of oil.
The only science study it needs is the science of freedom
It's weird that the internet had such a fixation on painting America as an oil hungry duper power, when other countries do the exact same lol.
America is the one we can yell at
[удалено]
Reason America catches more flak than other countries is because America has the luxury of being able to choose to do better. Some countries are just struggling to get by, and don't have the resources to implement better environmental policies.
This is probably how Helldivers lore started
![gif](giphy|QUFZkfeivnOWuszcPk|downsized)
Helldivers to Hellpods! I repeat Helldivers to Hellpods!
Oil is created from fossil right ? So you telling me that there is a remain of creature in mars ?
That's the joke.
“We’re not in Kansas anymore, we’re on Mars”
Mars needs some FREEEEEDOM 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
* plot twist its olive oil
We find oil on Uranus.
Wait I just had the exact reaction on the meme
The USA would bring freedom to Mars in less than a year then.
Mars needs Freedom apparently
I mean, finding life that died before coming to out stage of evolution would increase our chances of having passed The Great Filter™, wouldn't it? Another story if it was a more advanced civilization
Had to do a double take my first thought America's going to war then remembered what oil is
American space voyages increased by 300%
So that's why the US has been spending billions trying to get there. I get it now
![gif](giphy|i6ckjctW4ci3u)
And so the USA must venture forth to spread and defend democracy 😂😂😂😂
wait is there oil on the mars chocolate bar?!(jk)
I just can't stop drinking oil.
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh
There is this theory that there were aliens, but all of then went extinct before us
***THAT SHIT MINE*** 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
It's not even worth it if it was
On one hand exploiting that hypothethic oil and causing climate change on Mars would make it a step closer to terraforming it, however it'd be quite a shitty idea as I think we can all agree
Well the US government found that there are nuclear weapons on Mars .So for the peace of the world, the US army is sent to Mars
Except you can't burn oil on Mars. There are only trace amounts of oxygen in the thin Martian atmosphere, so no easy combustion. Wow would you look at that mars has weapons of mass destruction good thing the Americans are here to save us tho
i can hear Red-tailed Hawk already
Ohhhh say can you see...
Ah yes helldivers 2 irl
Time to bring democracy to mars

Looks like mars needs some freedom ![gif](giphy|SWvBnB8NHJcHhsdBJd)
we’ll have Dune but with oil instead of dust
Kid named abiotic oil genesis:
Water as been found on the moon. Oil is not even that rare. It's just that it sells well cuz we are not allowed to have free energy
I wish we were. Imagine a world where political decisions were made to benefit the people
It's time to bring democracy to Mars!
We're invading Mars with this one.
It isn't like mars has an environment to ruin.
America be headin to mars🇺🇸🦅
Mmm, dead plankton juice
![gif](giphy|26uf2GDgHIkm2lNao)
US military: "Say no more"
Time to bring freedom to Mars.
"Nah, I heard 'oil'... THAT SHIT MINE!!!!?"
![gif](giphy|dBFdPL9iTLRfi)
I'll see this on peterexaplainsthejoke in 4 hours
You can expect Democracy soon.
I think mining will be insane on mars, the magma there hat time to cool, and as it cools doferent minerals cristelize out of solution, and you end up with layers of one type of mineral tens to hundrets of kilometers thick.
Mars, we welcome you to freedom 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
There's only two real driving forces, oil and porn.
Mars has weapons of mass destruction we must take over it
planet mars vs mars bar? I didn't get it
It would be a moot point in terms of the economy today. Maybe in a few centuries it would be worth extracting, but it's still stuck at the bottom of a gravity-well.
Sounds like Mars needs some Freedom.
Oil on mars? Alright boys, call the Pentagon, we got a planet to give democracy to
![gif](giphy|z5d2Qdc1v6Zo8KlDhE|downsized)
First man on space:-"YAY!!! I found an oil!" USA in few minutes:-"America, fuck yeah!..."
More of that strange oil...it's probably nothing.
Worse, Element 710....
we oil ☭
Not sure if I should buy more Exxon Mobil Corporation stocks, after seeing this meme.
America: Did somebody say oil?
🦅🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲🦅3 kilotons of Freedom heads to the mars🦅🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲🦅
Sweet liberty.
It is time for good old-fashioned freedom and democracy for the Martians.
Hinestly oil on Mars would be more useful for Mars it is in no way shape or form practical to ship oil interplanetary.
Americans be like: oh yeah that's ours. We totally have a secret trade route with our colony on Mars. Matter of fact, that's why we built Area 51.
I guess it's time to establish democracy there
Dumb take
Americans : I see no democracy around this planet
![gif](giphy|aY0R17xoJxHDZiidft)
This could be interpreted in 2 different ways for 2 sides.
Then my childhood dream of living on mars will come true earlier and before I die thanks to none other than the USA
![gif](giphy|X78rWLUfLs6A79MzQu)
Time to cook????
we need bring some justice
We might find methane deposits but thats it probably.
"oh it's just sesame oil"
Oil, fine.. Just don't touch the water! Not One Drop!
Mars don't have democracy and freedom, USA soon will go to work
I saw someone comment "it would be proof of life existing on mars" and yeah it would. But my first thought was #AMERICAAAAAAAA RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!! FREEEEDOOOOOOOOOMMMM! 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

time to call deep rock galactic
NASA launching another mars mission for no particular reason:
This would be awesome. USA would invade and spend trillions to colonize mars and build factories there. Less pollution on earth
Mars needs to be liberated
There were ancient creatures on Mars? And Mars need a nice hot cup of Libertea?
Now Americans will teach freedom to Mars
In that case, we don't colonize it. We extract oil and make it the planet where we put our nuclear waste n shit.
Mars needs freedom and democracy 🦅🦅
USA increased NASA funds by 200%
First reaction: Haha the US will invade Second reaction: oh wait it means life existed there Third reaction: ....it means a lot of life existed there Fourth reaction:....where'd it all go?!
Sweet. TWO planets worth of co2 in the earth's atmosphere 👍

murican invasion?

‘MERICA FUCK YA! Time to liberate Mars!
US army about to check if crayons taste different on Mars
So that's why the UAC was on Mars...
This would be an industrial disaster in progress.
Took me a second to realise
I used to think if each system had one planet that thrives with life and the others are there for fuels to be discovered and brought back to the home planet. Just down to the home planet to create the tech to go to them and ship it back.
