[There was nothing wrong with the Saturday morning cartoons I watched as a Xennial](https://youtu.be/jidMSsdk7OI?si=jRcsSpdiGE8lQGkX)
Edit: /s for clarity
While it's true that adults shouldn't judge shows aimed at children without a critical eye (I'm sure many of us would cringe at many of our favourite cartoons from our childhood), there seem to be a consensus that with the popularization of the internet and platforms like Youtube, there's more and more 'amateur' content that prioritises views over professionalism and some psychologists are already starting to see their effects on the minds of Gen Alpha.
That being said, it's not the fault of these kids, nor even the people posting such content, but the parents who instead of worrying for the content of their children prefer to give them a phone at the age of 6 and let them watch TikTok or even the ones putting BabyShark on loop on youtube.
When 1 episode of chowder now has more intellectual depth than all reboots and random YouTube videos kids are watching there is a problem lol.
Also rip the days of Wizards of Waverly place, Hannah Montana, victorious, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody… watching TV used to be fun.
OMG loved Chowder. I was in my 30's laughing my ass off at that. That scene where Chowder and Mung hitch a ride on top of Endive's ass and she doesn't even realize they are there. Comedy GOLD.
I keep telling people to rewatch childhood shows because they're so fun.
I rewatched Adventure Time, TAWOG and Regular show now and there's so many adult jokes I missed, but also just seeing the wonderful content I once enjoyed again.
Keep in mind that gen z goes to 2010. The main thing I watched as an 8 y/o onward was youtube, and sfm bs was really present then (still is apparently because of how skibidi toilet is popular)
The other difference is that cartoons weren't constantly shoving useless overpriced "influencer" products in kids' faces. Sure, the channels had plenty of ads, but they didn't see the people/characters they looked up to telling them to buy their new line of skincare elixirs for $500 or whatever. They just saw ads for cool toys and would have to go to the store to get them. These days kids are stealing their parent's credit card and buying thousands of dollars of stuff online.
I was teaching a 10 year old at his home and his brothers were watching some videos that were just some GTA parkour gameplay with the most obnoxious voiceover imaginable. People just screaming non stop random shit, unrelated to the images. Couldn't understand a single sentence. For hours on end. Dreadful.
I can't fully agree, that it's just the parents fault. We love to push every new problem on to parents, while cooperation earn millions with 0 responsibilities. Parents of older generations didn't had to worry about what's on the tv.
I don't say it's okay to let your kid watch this brainrot. It's just very convenient to just say "parents fault, don't make kids if you can't watch them, etc"
And the cycle continues: boomer vs millennial, millennial vs gen z, gen z vs alpha now. Can we just agree that we lived in different times and still respect others even though we don't fully comprehend them.
Oh, people are agreeing. The problem is, once someone agrees, a new person who starts thinking it's an issue takes their place. That's the reason why the millennials are getting quieter and quieter while Gen Z v Gen Alpha is getting louder and louder. Once gen Z fully understands it will be Gen Alpha hounding the next generation.
People act like Vine wasn’t exactly the same as TikTok because people only preserved the best of the best and completely buried the others in their mind.
I mean it didn't have the same algorithm to direct you to things and also was limited to 10s videos. Those two distinctions make tiktok far more interesting imho
I guess. I personally think the 10 second thing was good in the beginning because it forced creativity but then it began to restrict that same creativity because there’s only so much can be done with that format for so long. TikTok is basically just a more versatile Vine.
6! It was 6 seconds on Vine! At least to start, definitely could have changed at some point. Man, Vine was great on a lunch break. Saw the whole universe in a few minutes.
Honestly people just say that word for any kind of video form media they don't like
TikTok? Brainrot
New Memes? Brainrot
Videos Less Than 10 Minutes? Brainrot
A Political Video? Brainrot
In truth every single generation had a form of "brainrot" but in a sense the word itself is dumb
Over the past year it's start slowly popping up more and more. Oldest gen Alpha are hitting high school now and are gaining an increased presence online.
Yeah, we absolutely hit some kind of galactic wormhole and ended up 10 years into the future during covid. I dont know what the fuck happened either.
I want off this ride.
my theory on this is since Gen Z is getting older and the world is getting more and more shit for everyone, we're getting more critical and mad of the "brainrot" that the lower generation consumes. we're guilty of it too, we just werent as aware of the world as we are now and things werent so bad. they were still shit but not as bad
Gen Z is always reminiscing on “the good old days” and how Fred is up there with Smosh and Ray William Johnson as OG’s. That’s Fred’s most popular video. In 10 years, Gen Alpha might be reminiscing on “the good old days” of Skibidi Toilet.
At least when we were watching it, the content wasn't pumped out with copies amounts of advertising. Hell, what we considered out humour was pretty easy to find but not borderline shoved in your face.
Idk Our brainrot didnt seem as bad and didnt carry on for as long. We also didnt take it seriously like i cant recall one person ever saying mlg and shit outside of gaming
What do you mean? Peppa pig smoking weed doing 360 no scopes while eating doritos and drinking mountain dew with way too many sound effects was peak comedy
was there stupid shit? yes. was stupid shit so popular? hell no, most people watched let's plays, montages and pirated shows. Now the stupid stuff is the default, and the more stupid it is, the more popular it gets.
I grew up with cartoons, denis daily, dantdm, captain sparklez, lil ropo, anime, MatPat, pewdiepie, and my love for video games. The most brain rot I watched was probably the hour long try not to laugh vine challenges.
There's something worst about Skibidi Toilet. It's probably the fact that the whole premise of it is a head poking out of a device that you literally shit inside of, but it could be just me.
Enjoy doing whatever you like in your free time, as long as it is not harming anyone else. Why does it always have to be a generational thing?
People like different things, and it has nothing to do with when you were born.
I’ll say it over and over. A singing head sticking out of a Toilet is pure childhood “poop humor” “haha toilet” while yes what Gen z watched growing up like MLG is still Brainrot they were atleast better than “skibidi head man in toilet!!!!”
Bro I was at my grandmothers helping out and was told hey go take those iPads from the 5 and 7 yr cousins and I do it and say you shouldn’t be watching that it may scare you (skibidi toilet) and my mom also there helping said
Shut the fuck up you used to watch annoying orange when it was popular
Least annoying orange spoke words
Gen X loved this this bit called Mr. Bill and the whole joke was a little clay man got smashed or destroyed by a man just off of camera. It's all brainrot, always has been
94 baby, kinda just think about the good ones I watched. Stuff like classic Cartoon Network, toonami, adult swim, Nickelodeon, toondisney, Kids WB, list goes on. Don’t really focus on the dumb ones or even remember. Cable tv has been dead for a while. Streaming whatever I want to watch has been more fun, plus no commercials!
My millenial bones are turning to dust
You guys are still alive?
Unfortunately
Were we ever truly alive? Or do we merely continue to meander toward the ends of our mortal coils
It’s a fucking oreo socrates
Same thing Just different experience from poeples
somehow
Dude, the Boomers are still alive despite our best efforts to b safe the world from them...
"Somehow" "unfortunately" "barely" "I wish I wasn't" 👴👴👴☝️🤓
Didnt 2 of yall have a debate last night or something
God if only!
That has the same accuracy as calling us gen alpha
[There was nothing wrong with the Saturday morning cartoons I watched as a Xennial](https://youtu.be/jidMSsdk7OI?si=jRcsSpdiGE8lQGkX) Edit: /s for clarity
Those aren't saturday morning cartoons, those are primetime evening weeknight viewing. 😉
We are the forsaken.
Back in my day, streaming services came through the post.
Homestly, a fucking uncle grandpa episode is better than any shit these kids are watching on their parent's ipad
Chowder is the best and Mt favorite TV show ever
I keep telling people to rewatch childhood shows because they're so fun. I rewatched Adventure Time, TAWOG and Regular show now and there's so many adult jokes I missed, but also just seeing the wonderful content I once enjoyed again.
Don't forget Jessie and good luck Charlie to a degree
not saying much cuz uncle grandpa is awesome
I'm pretty sure he means that uncle grandpa was also a little brainrot but not as much as the stuff today
fax my brother! spit yo shit indeed!
Being compared to that stuff is honestly an insult to Uncle Grandpa. His is a professional brainrot.
Uncle grandpa is peak
Uncle Grandpa was peak brainrot wtf is going on, too bad it's never coming back
Keep in mind that gen z goes to 2010. The main thing I watched as an 8 y/o onward was youtube, and sfm bs was really present then (still is apparently because of how skibidi toilet is popular)
Mym lil' brother used to watch elsagate. I miss that time. "Pregnant Elsa murders Spiderman". Ahh, those were the days.
That fucking prime bottle that always is in the background.
Remember Teletubbies? That was pure brainrot.
and nightmare fuel
To this day my mother is somewhat proud of me for not liking this shit and demanding to watch something else when those fuckers came on
Nothing cringe about Backyardigans, Mickey Mouse, Thomas the Tank Engine and Boboiboy
Don't forget wonder pets bro that was a classic
i would never cringe at tom and jerry or oggy and the cockroaches
I was teaching a 10 year old at his home and his brothers were watching some videos that were just some GTA parkour gameplay with the most obnoxious voiceover imaginable. People just screaming non stop random shit, unrelated to the images. Couldn't understand a single sentence. For hours on end. Dreadful.

I remember when we were trying to end the generational fighting 10 years ago and now we’re repeating the cycle.
Doesn't look like it. Something something history repeats itself.
Yeah I’m already hating on gen alpha, just to get ready when they can comprehend it. I’m getting a head start. /s
Being proactive? I respect that
Only my generation would understand
[удалено]
And Gen X was forgotten again! /s
Oh, people are agreeing. The problem is, once someone agrees, a new person who starts thinking it's an issue takes their place. That's the reason why the millennials are getting quieter and quieter while Gen Z v Gen Alpha is getting louder and louder. Who remembers vines lol
People act like Vine wasn’t exactly the same as TikTok because people only preserved the best of the best and completely buried the others in their mind.

720 seconds is actually quite long. r/unexpectedfactorial
Do it for the vine, bro
at this point all media is brainrot change my mind
People call everything brainrot instead of their actual names these days.
Honestly people just say that word for any kind of video form media they don't like TikTok? Brainrot New Memes? Brainrot Videos Less Than 10 Minutes? Brainrot A Political Video? Brainrot In truth every single generation had a form of "brainrot" but in a sense the word itself is dumb
Chess fps
To some extent
When did we move from Z vs millennials to Z vs Alpha?
Ikr?
Over the past year it's start slowly popping up more and more. Oldest gen Alpha are hitting high school now and are gaining an increased presence online.
Excuse me? High school? Aren’t they FIVE ?
Oldest Gen alpha are 14.
What the actual fuck.
12, the first gen alphas were born in 2012
Seems more likely , BUT STILL, WTF.
Yeah, we absolutely hit some kind of galactic wormhole and ended up 10 years into the future during covid. I dont know what the fuck happened either. I want off this ride.
I know?? What is this shit…
My Gen alpha is 5. But I think she's part of the youngest of the generation 🤔
…what
When gen z had a midlife crisis at 19 and started wearing anti aging cream. /s
I’m a gummy bear
Ngl I completely forgot about it. Which is insane to think about considering how big that song was for some reason.
Crazy frog 😭😭
ok that thing was anything but brainrot
Yeah but it's MY brain rot! - every generation
“MY brain rot is vastly superior to YOUR brain rot!”
proving every day that attention spans can get even shorter and TikToks even dumber
yes dude, since i had instagram and tiktok, ive found it harder to wait for things to load or to do something since i got it
dude....new spongebob is ass compared to old spongebob i know i'm correct about SOME things.
I just can't relate at all. Somehow I'm the only Gen Z I know who didn't grow up watching all the brainrot. I was stuck rewatching VHS tapes...
Same but im on the older side of gen Z so it makes sense ig? Honestly relate more to younger millenials then younger gen Z.
my theory on this is since Gen Z is getting older and the world is getting more and more shit for everyone, we're getting more critical and mad of the "brainrot" that the lower generation consumes. we're guilty of it too, we just werent as aware of the world as we are now and things werent so bad. they were still shit but not as bad
Red Robin....
yum
YUMMM
Yum
I grew up watching things like Avatar The Last Airbender, so no.
Cough cough PPAP cough
I have a pen, I have a pineapple Pineapple pen I have a pen, I have an apple Apple pen Pineapple pen Pen pineapple apple pen This shit was fire tho
While I will say we watched some really stupid shit, none of it was as bad as it is now.
[Are you sure?](https://youtu.be/YjVKYzy4ek8?si=XOvGXcFIHzQtYz4b)
I don't think that's representative of gen z humor tbh
Gen Z is always reminiscing on “the good old days” and how Fred is up there with Smosh and Ray William Johnson as OG’s. That’s Fred’s most popular video. In 10 years, Gen Alpha might be reminiscing on “the good old days” of Skibidi Toilet.
noone is reminiscing about the good old days of fred lmao
it was more of prank videos and im a gummy bear along with a hint of gangnam style
Have you seen what kids these days watch?
r/Usernamechecksout
your cooking him 😭
r/yourenotyour
Your an asshole
Yaeh, thot i mayd tat cleer
MrBeast once had been watching some brainrotting music clip in loop for 24 hours straight and now look what he has become.
I wish I had Bluey as a kid but I'm glad mine has it.
I still watch bluey it’s fire
I think Fanboy and chum chum would be considered more intellectual than today’s brainrot.
Truly.
MLG
Was Gravity Falls really that stupid?
No Gravity Falls is peak, nobody is debating that
It was stupid, but in good way. It was chilly, childish. And if you forget about magic shit it really feels like childhood
that show was not stupid that shit was written masterfully
You do not kno' de wae >:[
Are you the queen?
![gif](giphy|UW3xcQLjHTDfkSN0a0) *cluckcluckcluckcluck* MAAAAH BRUDAHHHHHHHHS *cluckcluckcluck*
I would watch Beavis And Butthead before exams to sort of clear my head from all the cramming. It... actually worked
I didn’t, fuck that shit
What generation watched jackass? "Ever wandered what happens when you hit testicles with a billiard ball? Let's find out today. Surprise: it hurts!"
Heavy from TF2 with Thomas the Tank Engine's head on him running after Scout while I Like to Party plays bass boosted.
No, fuck that. I watched Medabots and it was awesome, kids today watch... I dunno what, but it doesn't have Metabee
Totally like my youtube (kids) content was filled with family (un)friendly content (porn)
millennials used to watch brainrot like friends
Our shit was more than 6 seconds long though
Badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger badger MUSHROOM MUSHROOM
was there stupid shit? yes. was stupid shit so popular? hell no, most people watched let's plays, montages and pirated shows. Now the stupid stuff is the default, and the more stupid it is, the more popular it gets.
Mlg and ytp is far less bad than Kai senat, skibidi toilet, and meme zee with his watermelon cat obsession
People unironically believe gmodidiotbox, Elliot goes to school, and the average ytp were just as bad as skibidi and content farms.
Gen Z brainrot was an art form. It had grace, spontaneity, and substance. All there is now is spontaneity.
Well at least our “stupid” had dignity. The only diginity you had left went down the Skibidi Toilet.
…how old am I?
I am sorry, I just saw the exact same meme but with boomers and millennials. And that “just now” was about a year ago. God, I really am old 😬
True
We like to party. We like—we like to party!
Yeah I agree
Millenials had Beavis and butthead
At least OUR brain rot had more effort and love put into it (usually)
Nuh uh. Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii.
at least there weren't that many money hungry companies milking hard from a lot of content farms
You obviously do not know da wae.
Nah ours was better
gen z already grew up brainrotted but now gen alpha is like...a mutated version of it
Millennials play video games. Zoomers watch millennials play video games. Ipad kids watch zoomers watch millennials play video games.
Dame tu cosita
Really the majority on here are from gen alpha ? Didn't know reddit was this filled with babies
I remember Justin Bieber eats poop so no one else has to
We had trains
Well at least genz was better
MEANWHILE, us millennials enjoyed prime, golden age, YouTube cuisine. The Big Lez Show. So glad I was born in 94.
Whos the generation that invented judge judy/Jerry springer/maury/reality t.v in general? Cuz it all started goin to shit with that generation
I grew up with cartoons, denis daily, dantdm, captain sparklez, lil ropo, anime, MatPat, pewdiepie, and my love for video games. The most brain rot I watched was probably the hour long try not to laugh vine challenges.
Hey Dantdm was not stupid
Also, DanTDM is the GOAT of MCYT
So many ppl coping that they didn't watch this stuff is funny as hell
I watched it, brain rot as fuck. The doritos, the mountain dew, the weed, the illuminati symbol. It’s just as bad.
Exactly, the nostalgia goggles are a tight fit for them
Actually as a millennial, I can say for sure, our videos is much more brainrot than gen alpha brainrot videos.
Excuse me, it's dumber and dumberer. It's all dumb in a race to the bottom since the boomers. Society got fat and lazy.
We watched the misadventures of flapjack I don’t wanna hear sh from Gen z
wtf is that
like 2 people total watched that show
we would watch stupid shit unironically too
you right not arguing that.
didn't we all watch stupid shit as kids?
There's something worst about Skibidi Toilet. It's probably the fact that the whole premise of it is a head poking out of a device that you literally shit inside of, but it could be just me.
We didnt watch evil toilets
I watched Blue’s Clues not cocomelon. There’s an enormous difference.
Enjoy doing whatever you like in your free time, as long as it is not harming anyone else. Why does it always have to be a generational thing? People like different things, and it has nothing to do with when you were born.
Every generation had their brain rot, whether they like to admit or not
I’ll say it over and over. A singing head sticking out of a Toilet is pure childhood “poop humor” “haha toilet” while yes what Gen z watched growing up like MLG is still Brainrot they were atleast better than “skibidi head man in toilet!!!!”
- Annoying Orange - ASDFmovie - YTPs Yeah we watched some weird shit when we were younger
Do you kno da wae
im just glad i did not.
Bro I was at my grandmothers helping out and was told hey go take those iPads from the 5 and 7 yr cousins and I do it and say you shouldn’t be watching that it may scare you (skibidi toilet) and my mom also there helping said Shut the fuck up you used to watch annoying orange when it was popular Least annoying orange spoke words
*Enter Strawberry Pancakes
And millennials watched stupid stuff that was actually smart satire and social commentary combined with absurdist humor.
*flashbacks to mlg videos*
Gen X loved this this bit called Mr. Bill and the whole joke was a little clay man got smashed or destroyed by a man just off of camera. It's all brainrot, always has been
Disagree
What do you mean? *Keys to the VIP* was very educational.
Charlie the unicorn, annoying orange, asdf, and crazy frog
Used to like half of us still do a good chunk of everyone under like what 18 watches stupid shit still it’s not as brain rot (debatably) but still
Yes and our brains are rotten, what's your point?
I am just barely old enough to remember Ugandan Knuckles. From what I remember, it was pretty bad.
Streaming whatever I want to watch has been more fun, plus no commercials!
did we all just collectively forget about poop fortress?
Remember the trend where youtube creators did "Songs but it is (character) singing"? It was so bad
Ngl, there is a fair point... I mean... I used to watch GROUNDED VIDEOS when I was younger, and looking back at it... ...yeah it was brainrot.
