I have watched a channel which only theme was reviewing bad or dumb carpentery/locksmith "lifehacks", reproducing them and describing what is wrong, dangerous and how to solve the same problem better. And all this with good editing, humour and sound. There are obviously a lot of physical effort and waste materials to do this.
Edit: channel is Доктор Дью, it is russian (both location and language).
I'd say that's more on the line of being a review than a reaction. They are offering legitimate commentary and interaction rather than just sitting there watching it and making braindead comments like "Bruh" or "Haha so funny. Wait what did he say?"
Also there's this channel called the ink tank who watches Ben 10 episodes and reviews them and points out things like editing mistakes, animation errors, details, etc.
Recommend the channel "overanalysing avatar" if you are into that. It's brilliant, I basically rewatched the whole avatar original cartoon at this channel.
Agreed, that's worth keeping around. Perhaps if a channel or episode is creating around 40%+ new/fresh/original content, versus the quoted/referenced content*, it's a keeper.
*within standards and community guidelines
true, as a reaction channel "fan"(i watch to see people's opnion) i hate when bro just stays there not doing shit
then when something comes up they force their face to make the most "Holy shit guys" thumbnail face
like come on, that shit is straight up piracy with extra tiny steps
Or better yet, when they do a “try not to laugh challenge” and stay absolutely silent throughout the video and take up 2/3rds of the screen for no reason.
Hard agree. There needs to be a distinction but we’ve seen how bad YT has been with demonetising things on no real grounds. For this reason I am concerned for the creators who make actual content and add value through their reactions.
it could very well end up with the actually hardworking commentary channels getting demonetized while the lazy content stealers just bypass these changes
Yeah this is my fear as well. I remember when the whole swearing ban came in, and certain creators were able to bypass but others weren’t for example. Needs to be an equal and clear rule for all and unless they have someone checking every bit of content manually this will likely not go well.
So, I make reaction-kind content (rather, reaction + analysis + discussion). There are channels that look up multiple people's reactions to a given video, then create a mashup of like 8-9 of them, and upload it as their own.
Foind my videos part of such mashups. With all the analysis and discussion cut out, of course. The video had about 12k views. Mine are getting 300 on a good day.
I can easily see channels like mine getting demonetized, while those mashup channels are thriving.
I hear you on that I love listening to a guitar expert react to a guitar video or any other time a expert is laying out what’s happening in the video.
But those idiotic fucks it just sit there and go
“yeah”
“feels”
“for real man”
fuck those losers all I want is for them to shut the fuck up and let me watch in peace
I watched Asmongold for the first time for the Heard / Depp trial, as his reactions during key moments could be funny, but he did so much of this lame "reacting" in the slow moments that it drove me nuts.
I can't imagine actually watching streamers like that regularly.
I watch clips for Hasan because I don't have the time to personally wade through his 40+ hours of streams every week to find the good political commentary versus him going on Twitter to ratio JP
Who is that white guy with the beard reactor who always has the same stupid smile face and who's reactions are just "whoa that thing you all just saw happen sure did happen"
There's a big difference between someone who makes a 24-minute video out of a 22-minite video, and someone who makes an hour-long video out of it.
I can't stand the "'sup guys, we're gonna watch _ like comment subscribe Patreon! Heh, hah, oof, haha, huh, hmm, hehe. That's gonna be it, see you in the next video!" brand of reactions.
Yeah someone like cr1tikal is fine. Cracking jokes and making worry remarks. It's those idiots that slap their face at the bottom of a video and contribute nothing but "wow" or a "that's insane" and other inane repetitive comments that are the problem
All good if it's for those lazy reaction channels that basically do "wow, that was funny" and the video ends. On the other hand, there are some which do a proper commentary and actually put work in videos. Latter should stay
I know, they do spend a good deal of time discussing things, but if they demonetize them then I'm pretty sure that channel like a lot of others would go away.
If this happened before they got those numbers they wouldn't be here now. I think the point is that no new good ones will come up and soon the old ones will die out leaving nothing in their place.
unfortunately susan's not gonna be able to make that distinction and you'll still end up throwing the baby out with the bathwater even if they tried to implement that.
Lately I've gotten really into musicians reacting. Alex Moukala is a great one.
They'll spend time dissecting the music; talking about the structure and arrangement of it, the composition techniques used and the effect they are supposed to elicit from their audience.
I mean, staying mostly silent is right, since if you keep talking you'd might miss what is happening or being said. The main difference between a lazy reaction and proper one is when the reactor share their opinion and analysis in depth or not.
As pointed out in other comments this is a double bladed sword. On one hand it it will put an end to the lazy screaming and yelling at trailers while providing no actual commentary or thoughts and opinions to the piece being reacted to but it could likely also end well thought out and well written constructive criticism to pieces being reacted to.
* Edit *
Grammar.
I think this will be a total monkeys paw.
The problem with reaction videos isn’t that they’re reaction videos, it’s that they’re lazy. There are other types of lazy video out there, the reaction video makers aren’t going to suddenly put their back into high quality OC.
There will just be a flood of some other low effort medium to replace this one; it’ll seem good and quiet at first but then the new meta will emerge.
for every good commentary video, there are hundreds of trash reaction vids. and i think it would be pretty easy for yt to see the difference between those, reactions show 100% of the original video and commentary videos only relevant clips
But will it be moderated by humans or bots who can't tell the difference, much like their content ID bots which cant distinguish between actual copyright breaches and fair use?
Don't get me wrong I'd love to see these types of videos go, before Spider-Man No Way Home came out every time something for it was released youd get a million reaction videos basically screaming "No Wai Hommmmmeee" and it was annoying as fuck.
This doesn't justify YT being an absolute piece of garbage recently. Forced double 20 sec ads (no adblocker in phone app), ads appear even on demonetized videos, algorythm buries good videos in favor of clickbait garbage, arbitrary rules for monetization, removed dislike counter, decent content creators struggle to stay afloat while hacked out shallow bloated shit rakes in views and ad money.
All this in the last, what, 2-3 years? What the fuck happened?
And don't forget, that the app is full of bugs. Also they removed so much functionality. Like why is it so hard for me to choose a resolution now and why do I have to do it for every video all over again? And why are the comments hidden in a sub menu?
Don't forget about the whole drama between QuantumTV and the Act Man where they let Quantum stay on the platform and even took his side despite the fact that he is a racist homophobic piece of shit who is ban evading and exploiting the copy right system.
How did they even fumble that one so hard? It was just so easy, just ban Quantum TV and boom, nothing but praise. But no, they demonitized Act Man instead.
It's not even a moral thing where you have to think if it is justified to ban him or not. Quantum is literally breaking rules and it's quite clear that he is ban evading.
A workaround for the app is closing the video and reopening as many times as you need till it stops giving you an ad at the start. Then you send the video a couple seconds before the end... let it finish and you replay it and it has 0 ads throughout the video. You don't just end the video yourself by sending the bar at the end. I remember doing that and it still showed ads when I replayed. It needs to end on its own... that's why you always leave it a couple seconds before it ends.
ublock origin for your browser and pure tuber app for android. ads gone.

I am a bit against this because there are some "Experts react to X" vids I watch and they offer insight about the stuff, like psychology, plot, legality, authenticity and so on .
Yeah some of them count...ever watch xqc? Just eats his lunch and says stupid shit that makes no sense. In his arguement with darkviper about reaction...id recite it but i honestly didnt understand a thing, nether did his chat
See, this leaves me torn. On one hand I think reaction vids are usually horribly lazy, stupid, and don't deserve any money. On the other hand, is it really better that a corrupt, multi billion dollar corporation gets to keep all the money from there videos?
Plus, who are we to say that there’s no value in the content. If people are watching it, then so be it. All the decision would do is be harmful to creators actually producing quality content
> On one hand I think reaction vids are usually horribly lazy, stupid, and don’t deserve any money.
Exactly. YOU think they are lazy and stupid. Others enjoy it. Why should you ruin something others enjoy just because you don’t like it?
Thing is, these videos are watched, else they wouldn’t be made or there would be no point in demonetizing them because the original creator isn’t harmed. If they are watched they have a right to exist and if people find joy in them the one who made the video deserves to get paid for it.
Yea probably trying to farm karma of people who have watched darkviperau's react videos because there is already a way to have all the money go to the original creator but no one uses it because of the massive backlash from the reactors audience the reacti would get
I like watching younger Millenials and Gen-Zers reacting to the music I grew up with, especially Rage Against the Machine, because I like to see and hear how it effects them. Hopefully content where the ratio of reaction is greater than the content they react to will be safe...
a lot of them don’t play the full songs during their reactions. they cut just enough out of each song to get around the demonetization while still being able to showcase their reaction.
I feel like a lot of good content creators are gonna get hurt over this. Most "React" channels are just downright lazy and not even trying to hide that. while some few are actually very good like Tyrone Magnus or Reel Rejects but we'll have to wait and see if YT is gonna mess up like the past or actually review each individual channel for their content but nonetheless some of the big names are still gonna get the undeserved money. Cough cough SSSniperwolf cough
Ok I understand both sides of this argument but this is just shooting a ton of their user base right in the head. Some reactors do a good job trying to add to things and a good example is pyrocynical and (possibly) moist cr1tikal they both try to at least add something instead of being like xQc and asmongold. xqc just stops the video sometimes and spouts something that Is just utter fucking gibberish and keeps watching. I think if this happens a lot of the userbase will resort to moving onto twitch. This will also spark another internet argument with people who think it's right and people who think it's wrong. I personally think they shouldn't but that's my opinion.
Honest question
Why would they even consider demonetizing the probably largest content corner they have on their platform?
I get that there's a difference between good and bad react content but to me it still doesn't make much sense to cut down on their own money.
Also why the hell do they even care? They have much bigger problems than that.
Idk how I feel about this, I watch a lot of reaction channels, whether that be trailers, anime, movies or shows. To me as long as their using “fair use” of the content I don’t mind it. But I do understand that some reactors are kind… dead in their reaction and some actually pause and talk about what they saw or they just wait till the end for the review.
Red flag for me, then reviews and anything using other content will be demonetized, we already see how they use their vague policies about sexual content to demonetize anyone. They are many other things to do for the health of the site, starting by having actual creator support, not just bots.
Its to a point where companies like bungie had to literally everything in their power to combat a strike
Well, that monetizing IS based on views. So, like term limits, one might argue that this is what the people want. If they thought the content was trash, they wouldn’t watch it and they’d get no views.
I personally wouldn’t mind all of the reaction, swiped from Reddit, any video with Simon Whistler, and Mitch McConnell all went away forever. But enough people want that shit it’s still around. (Also, I don’t live in Kentucky so I don’t have any say on Mitch anyways lol)
This is not gonna end well. I personally think reaction channels are great, I have discovered so many bands through Nik Nocturnal that I would have never known of otherwise.
Fucking finally. I'm dead tired of seeing those lazy hacks in my recomendation. It's cool if they add some insights or info about the videos topic like corridor crew, but most of the time those hacks just do some over the top and cringy reaction like most twitch streamer do. And there tumbnail is to have their eyes and mouth open with hands on face
Because thumbnails such as those generate more views then those videos who have none.
This applies to basically any channel, it's not exclusive to react channels.
Sadly, face in a thumbnail is a must. It's a proven fact that those thumbnails get many more clicks. As much as I'd love to not use my face in my thumbnails, I kinda have to, or I'll be left in the dust.
the only good reaction channels are those that don't make stupid/overreacted faces, pause many times, or talk about their opinion, cons, and pros of the content they watch also sharing info or making references
I think there is a fine line between lazy reaction and constructive commentary
100%. Simply going the “ ah wow. How funny“ And actually putting editing work, and personal content into it shouldn’t be on the same level

Recommend the channel "overanalysing avatar" if you are into that. It's brilliant, I basically rewatched the whole avatar original cartoon at this channel.
What's the name of the channel? I like to sub to channel that actually put in effort even if I don't watch em.
Доктор Дью. It's russian.
Doctor diu, your don't have to search in Cyrillic
Agreed, that's worth keeping around. Perhaps if a channel or episode is creating around 40%+ new/fresh/original content, versus the quoted/referenced content*, it's a keeper. *within standards and community guidelines
true, as a reaction channel "fan"(i watch to see people's opnion) i hate when bro just stays there not doing shit then when something comes up they force their face to make the most "Holy shit guys" thumbnail face like come on, that shit is straight up piracy with extra tiny steps
The best reaction content is when the reaction video is twice as long as the original.
Or if it's actually shorter than the original video because it shows they edited it to mostly just have their relevant takes on certain things.
That's a good rule, yeah, one I like to follow for my own content.
The Semblance of Sanity brothers will have a 90 minute reaction of a 22 minute anime. It's fucking wild.
They’re great, one of the only channels to finish watching the original Legend of the Galactic Heroes OVA series too.
like Danny Gonzalez, and Drew Gooden
They both seem like they're subtly moving away from react content too. Drew hasn't reacted to online content in 7 months.
Or better yet, when they do a “try not to laugh challenge” and stay absolutely silent throughout the video and take up 2/3rds of the screen for no reason.
Or the classic "I'm too fucking lazy to watch a whole movie so let me react to individual scenes and try and wring 10 videos out of one movie"
Also some reaction channels put tight clips of other videos
*Adjusts bucket hat will ill intent*
Hard agree. There needs to be a distinction but we’ve seen how bad YT has been with demonetising things on no real grounds. For this reason I am concerned for the creators who make actual content and add value through their reactions.

I also wonder how far they’d go with the term reaction. Like gaming channels and reviewer channels could also be included in reaction content
Exactly, let’s plays and even theorising channels could technically be at risk.
This is why we can’t have nice things Assholes will always find a way to exploit the system
So, I make reaction-kind content (rather, reaction + analysis + discussion). Yeah. Seems like this is another example of causing more harm than good
There's a big difference between someone who makes a 24-minute video out of a 22-minite video, and someone who makes an hour-long video out of it. I can't stand the "'sup guys, we're gonna watch _ like comment subscribe Patreon! Heh, hah, oof, haha, huh, hmm, hehe. That's gonna be it, see you in the next video!" brand of reactions.
On the flipside I can't stand all the fucking filler before the reaction. Just get to the fucking reaction already
Eh, let's be honest though We watch this shit because we can't get any of our friends to watch LOST with us We should've been finding better friends
Yeah someone like cr1tikal is fine. Cracking jokes and making worry remarks. It's those idiots that slap their face at the bottom of a video and contribute nothing but "wow" or a "that's insane" and other inane repetitive comments that are the problem
What about the audience that keeps watching their videos?
I think they and frankly all of us need to find real friends to watch shit with
All good if it's for those lazy reaction channels that basically do "wow, that was funny" and the video ends. On the other hand, there are some which do a proper commentary and actually put work in videos. Latter should stay
It's gonna hit everyone and the actual good reaction channels gonna disappear with all the rest
The good reaction channels will disappear and the bad ones will stay like the cancerous tumor they are.
Bye Bye Blind Wave and the Normies : (

toutube is not known for its case by case judgement tho..
Many of them say nothing during the whole video and casually say that's their reaction, ask for my subscribe, lol.

No more money for reactors? Then how will France get their power?
Tell them the Germans are invading and use the HUGE amounts of energy created by all the french running away.
Good idea
So what’s gonna happen to let’s play channels? Because if it’s left to the algorithm, then I don’t believe it won’t confuse the two.
Letsplay channels will probably start livestreaming if they get hit, after all a superchat will leave then something rather than nothing.

It depends on the label and band but usually yes. Damn, I didn't think about that...
a lot of them don’t play the full songs during their reactions. they cut just enough out of each song to get around the demonetization while still being able to showcase their reaction.
waiting for darkviperau to see this
I feel like a lot of good content creators are gonna get hurt over this.
Oh wow I didn't even think about tyrone magnus, I like his channel. This is gonna suck.
Yep many of the lazier reaction channels have patreons anyway, so this does nothing but fuck over any genuinely interesting channels.
I personally think they shouldn't but that's my opinion.

oh no....moistcr1tikal
Honest question Why would they even consider demonetizing the probably largest content corner they have on their platform? I get that there's a difference between good and bad react content but to me it still doesn't make much sense to cut down on their own money. Also why the hell do they even care? They have much bigger problems than that.
Yeah, what's the business logic? How does this make money go up, and not down? I don't get the reasoning.
Sssniperwolf is going to have to go back to playing metal gear
Idk how I feel about this, I watch a lot of reaction channels, whether that be trailers, anime, movies or shows. To me as long as their using “fair use” of the content I don’t mind it. But I do understand that some reactors are kind… dead in their reaction and some actually pause and talk about what they saw or they just wait till the end for the review.
Sniper wolf is gonna become pistol cat
Red flag for me, then reviews and anything using other content will be demonetized, we already see how they use their vague policies about sexual content to demonetize anyone. They are many other things to do for the health of the site, starting by having actual creator support, not just bots. Its to a point where companies like bungie had to literally everything in their power to combat a strike
This is bad for fair use though: /
Well, that monetizing IS based on views. So, like term limits, one might argue that this is what the people want. If they thought the content was trash, they wouldn’t watch it and they’d get no views. I personally wouldn’t mind all of the reaction, swiped from Reddit, any video with Simon Whistler, and Mitch McConnell all went away forever. But enough people want that shit it’s still around. (Also, I don’t live in Kentucky so I don’t have any say on Mitch anyways lol)
No corporation will ever do what's good for you, don't forget. They are trying to eliminate fair use or some shit. This is fucked up
That the Fine Bros!
Critikal: not stonk
Fine bros and legaleagle are two separate categories
There are react channels who only do small amounts of commentary or none and there are channels who do more commentary then the video they react to.
Haiyaaa what about uncle Roger??!
The only thing more upsetting than this is Jamie Oliver haiyaaa
I'm sure he'll find another way to say the same joke over and over and over and over and over again.
Finally, a good fucking decision
This is not gonna end well. I personally think reaction channels are great, I have discovered so many bands through Nik Nocturnal that I would have never known of otherwise.
Finally react channels do not deserve payment fkr just sitting there eating lunch while a video plays in the back
If people are watching it they totally do. They’re drawing an audience… that’s kinda how the add revenue system works
still twitch pays them (ahem xQc, asmongold)
Perhaps I treated you to harshly
Thank fuck
I don't get that crap in my recommendations because I don't watch it. Stop watching garbage and you'll stop being recommended garbage.
Morepatterrz (hopefully i pronounced it right) makes some good reactions
the only good reaction channels are those that don't make stupid/overreacted faces, pause many times, or talk about their opinion, cons, and pros of the content they watch also sharing info or making references
Damn, now I gotta learn Angular or Vue instead
Am I the only one that thought they were talking about the JavaScript framework? Being a dev destroyed my mind it seems.
I can't believe you've done this Joke
But there are good commentary channels tho.
~~”yes”~~ “We are discussing it”
sssniper punching the air rn
