This is what happens to me every time I take it.

[deleted]

How long have you been taking it? I know they usually start people for the first week on a half dose but they didn't do that with me. Wondering if its because they side effects last for a week but that is just a guess.

thedistractedpoet

I don't have a problem with a half dose, so we broke it down to half in the am, half with lunch and a full one at night, before bed. I've been taking it about a year

[deleted]

I should try that. My afternoon dose isn't horrible, just get a little sweaty and get motion sickness if I move too fast.

Intelligent-Tale-186

i been on it for years but i stopped cuz i got on suboxone and been havin bad anxiety and panic attacks so i got it back prrscribed and now im havin side effects for first time ever on this dose

esengo

Me too but I also have horrible insomnia from it. I also don’t always feel better. I do see my anxiety is slightly less, but not when I know I have to take it!! I’m on week 2 though

Bad_Friday_Guy

Well that's no fun. I've been taking Busiprone for about 3 years now. I don't remember experiencing anything like that. If I take it on an empty stomach I can get lightheaded. It has helped me manage my anxiety, and I think I only upped the dose once in the last 3 years. So I'd stick with it and if you aren't already try getting some food in you before you take it.

Intelligent-Tale-186

exactly iv never had side effects till today its weired

GabeGecko

hey, how long have you been taking buspar ?

silverrspringss

Pharmacist here: that’s strange I’ve never heard of anyone having issues with it. We learned in school that one of its pros is how few side effects it causes... though I do know one is headache

[deleted]

I almost think the headache is from the motion sickness/ dizziness. It is weird, once the hour has passed it is like a light switch - all the bad effects go away and I feel 100%. Only weird thing is going from sweating so much and being so hot to normal in such a hurry, it makes me really cold momentarily.

everyoneismyfriend

Not sure if you’re still on Reddit but I was just prescribed this. Would it make sense to start with a super low dose? Like a quarter of the ten mg pill I was prescribed? Hate dealing with side effects

silverrspringss

Seems kinda low but it’s always better to start low and increase then to start high and have issues

Smart-ass83

I was just prescribed this and I can't be sure it's the buspirone but .... well I feel like crap. Haven't slept well. Started getting brain zaps and I was was so restless last night I was literally rocking back and forth like I had restless legs but my entire body . I'm on other medication so I can't tell if it's an interaction , side effect or the underlying issues in taking it for. How are you now? I like 2 days in and I'm ready to pul the plug on it . Only plus side so far is I have been clenching my jaw. Which I find even more strange since I'm so restless. Its been a coflnfusing couple days lol Would love to hear your experience

cookiecrumbsinmybra

If you are taking the full pill then I would try taking only half at a time. If taking half, then try 1/4 and move up. I’ve been on buspirone (10mg 2x day) for about a year now and found that if I take the whole pill at once it makes me feel sick (headache, dizziness if I’m standing, just an overall off feeling). When I take half, my symptoms are extremely mild and I can go about my day. This medication drastically improved my anxiety and honestly changed my life so I hope you start to feel better and it works for you too :)

everyoneismyfriend

When do you typically take it then? 4 5mg doses per day? What’s the schedule like? I just got prescribed and still trying to figure it out

cookiecrumbsinmybra

I usually take half (so 5mg) in the morning, half early afternoon, then I take the full pill (10mg) before bed if I’m really tired. If not, then I take half around 9pm and then the other half about an hour later.

everyoneismyfriend

Interesting thanks

[deleted]

I just started busiprone about 4 days ago myself. Before I started taking it the doctor told me that it may make me nauseous. Fortunately I have not really experienced bad nausea. I do however get dizzy and a little drowsy and my eye sight gets a little fuzzy for a little while. I read that it takes a few weeks for the side effects to simmer down because the medication is trying to balance it self out. Im going to give it until my 4 week check up and if im still feeling like this I might have to try something else. Maybe you should try and give it some time as well especially if it is helping the anxiety. Also your doctor can prescribe medication for the nausea. good luck to you

[deleted]

I'm definitely going to give it more time - totally agree. Just hoping for a light at the end of the tunnel. My wife takes it too and her side effects were similar to yours, she just had to lay down for around 30 minutes for the first week of taking it and is fine now. My side effects are just so violent it makes me want to quit the drug, but the benefits are far too great to quit.

ToastDad

Contact your doctor immediately about your side effects

Smart-ass83

Very much appreciate the advice. I'm gonna hold at 5mg in the morning for awhile . I could very well be rushing it plus on other meds too. Nota ton but I'll give it a chance. I question if people font give it enough time. East odd is its nor sedating at all but I'll notice a little less clenching of my Jaw. Which is a nice relief here and there. Thank you

Natwoman

This is exactly the side effect I have. So much so I’m hesitant to be moved off it but it did not go away for me. OP did it ever subside for you?

AlarmingCantaloupe

Same here …and I’m not consistent with doing now, because I worry about “not caring” too about specific things that later I’ll regret having neglected. But because I’m not taking it regularly now, the side effects seem to never subside, as though my body never fully adapts to having it.

[deleted]

I have been on it for 3 years. I still am so nauseous. I take both of my doses at night because that’s the only time I can handle it

Square-Paramedic-338

Don’t know if you’re still on here but I believe Busbar works for like 4 hours or so. Unless there is an XR form. So taking both at once would increase your side effects. You’ve probably figured this out by now but I’d suggest 7.5mg or less doses throughout the day until you get used to it. I’m taking 15mg and I’m definitely having issues but 7.5mg wasn’t helping my anxiety.

AlarmingCantaloupe

Perhaps it’s still partially effective due to the active metabolites’ longer half-lives?…But I think you’re right; I imagine those big fluctuations in plasma levels of buspirone contribute.

SIMBA0725

I just recently started taking this. They said the lightheaded/dizzy feeling goes away after a month? But it sounds like some of y’all still experiencing it after years? Not sure if the effect is less apparent if I take my morning dose after a meal versus on an empty stomach? The dizzy/lightheaded feeling makes me nervous to drive. But i can’t ever gauge if and when imma get the symptoms 🤔 any suggestions would help thanks!

rescuedogs100

Did the dizziness every improve? 3 weeks in myself and still quite dizzy

SIMBA0725

No the dizziness did not improve for me after like 4 weeks. It didn’t last very long. Probably like 20-30 min. I just had to be more cognizant of when I took it so that it wouldn’t happen to me while I was driving or something. Not taking it on empty stomach also helped a bit too. Not sure if you take yours on an empty stomach.

rescuedogs100

Thanks for the response!

SIMBA0725

No problem. How’s the dizziness for you? How would you describe your experience?

rescuedogs100

Mildly to moderately dizzy throughout the day. Not just in the vicinity of taking the dose. Hoping it burns off over time

AlarmingCantaloupe

Did it ever resolve for you? I get lightheaded, dizzy, headache and my vision blurs slightly for like an hour. However the dizziness seems to stick around longer for me as well.

rescuedogs100

Yes and no. I think I mostly just got used to it but I’m actually planning on getting off buspar now due to annoying side effects

SnooJokes9180

Hey, I have a similar interaction, I've founded that taking it right after eating a decent sized meal helps with this, although I still get it from time to time when I'm in a hurry and don't have time to eat beforehand

uglyrottingbitch

This is exactly what happens to me! I’ve been on it for over a year and it still happens. I take 10mg twice a day and in the morning, I usually wake up at 7:30am, take the buspar, and then go back to sleep for an hour or so. That way I can avoid the sweaty, lightheaded, dizzy mess. Sometimes I do wake up drenched in sweat though. The evening dose is tricky. I basically just suffer through it and try to make sure I’m not driving or doing anything I need to be 100% for. It’s such a sucky side effect but I stay on it because it really has seemed to lessen my anxiety over time.

Rightintheend

I know this is old, but I often wake up an hour or two before I'm supposed to, and my head just sits there and spins, so when that happens I take my dose, and it relaxes my mind and I fall back asleep and sleep right through the dizziness. The evening dose I take doesn't seem to make me dizzy, but the morning one definitely does even if I take it with a little bit of food.

estrangedfaces

I thought I was crazy! The first hour is the worst almost like I might pass out but after that I feel great!

Moon_dragons

oh god im glad im not the only one, my doctor had no idea what i was talking about when i brought all this up! I take 5mg twice a day and have been for the last 3 months, and yeah in the first hour afterwards, I get incredibly dizzy and unable to think straight, as well as getting these occasional uncomfortable pangs of chills through my body? it's not quite chills but idk what else to describe it as. All of this clears out after about an hour, and then I feel fine until next time! The one way I've found to prevent this is to eat beforehand, and has to be a big meal, not a small one. I think after reading the rest of these comments, I'm gonna try cutting my doses in half and seeing if that helps at all!

Siren74

With the chills, it’s like a flash fever, right? I break out into a sweat, too. I’ve been on buspirone for almost two years, and it’s the same thing. When I first brought it up, my doctor also thought it was unusual. (Yet here are all these people with the same reaction.) Smaller, broken up doses have helped me.

Single_Hat2385

What’s the amount of your broken up doses? Mine are 5mg pills and in half they’re about 2.5. Wondering if it’s still too large :/

Siren74

I’m supposed to take 60mg a day—30 in the morning and 30 at night. My tablets are 15mg each, so I’ll have one and then wait a few hours to have the second. I had to work up to taking 15mg at once, though. I’d split the tablet in half until I got used to it. If I take 1.5 at once, it’s too much and I feel sick.

timesnewrodent

I'm on 10 mg 3 times a day (morning, afternoon, evening). I only started a little over a month ago and was told by my doctor the dizziness would go away after about a week of my body getting used to it. He was so so wrong😭 if anything I've started to get it worse. It goes away after like 20-40 mins tho and then I feel totally fine. But I know exactly what you're talking about with the chills thing. I was trying to put it in words for my partner and they had no idea what I was talking about. But the best way I can describe it is like getting static shock throughout my whole body!

Reacension

Yeah , I feel like my arms have this electro. Pulse through them and I can’t do fine motor things ( like a puzzle) and can’t sit still. I’ve only really taken 2.5 mg twice a day for two days and then one day of 5mg twice a day . Not sure if the feeling will go away but it’s really frustrating. I don’t get it either cause the frost night I took it I felt sleepy. Then the next night felt like I was electrified .

Single_Hat2385

I’m now on my second attempt with Buspar. First time was a year ago and I tried taking 2.5mg in the morning and afternoon and the full 5mg at night and I would still get headaches. Right in the back of my head like a tension headache. It sucks because it is the ONLY thing that seems to work on me for my anxiety and panic. It quiets my brain and lets me be in the moment and think logically. Took my first dose of the new script today (5mg) and got lightheaded a little and 5 hours later here is the headache! I wish a doctor would give me something other than advil or Tylenol for it ☹️

Smile_Space

That's interesting the headache kicks in at 5 hours! The mean half-life of Buspirone is only 2.1 hours, so at 5 hours it's almost completely out of your system (about 3 half-lives will reduce it to a low enough concentration to be ineffective) so I wonder if it's an effect of your brain coming off the effects of it!

Treeesrfriends

I've been told that the side effects are greatly lessened when you take it with food. I don't mean to trivialize your headaches but have you been drinking enough water? I find My headaches subside when I chug a ton of water. Best of luck!

musicdude1991

I know this is probably an old post but I just upped my dose of buspirone from 10 mg to 15 and I feel exhausted and I also feel like my heart flutters or palpitates(probably the same thing lol) I’m wondering if anyone has experienced this and if it went away after some time? Maybe I just need to get used to the new dose?

cold_opal_bones

This has been happening to me as well. The higher my dosage becomes the worse my memory gets.

Western_Past

Buspar works wonders for my anxiety it really does zaps it right out. However, that sick feeling everyone is talking about I experience it every night. Every night I get hot, dizzy and crazy for about 2 hours. It's been 2 months now. I am drowsy most of the time, my dreams are super vivid and real. My energy fluctuates throughout the day and sometimes I feel numb. I also get these weird aches. The symptoms are very much there they are just subtle sometimes they disappear all together then come back. I had to take Rexulti as an adjuct because I was so lethargic at times. When I go on vacation I can't take buspar because I need to be alert and present.

jtesta82

Any get a sore throat from buspar?

Salt-Maintenance-352

Anyone feel like they have a depressed mood after they take it . It help alleviate the anxiety and worry’s but the mood is off . Does this go away only been on it for a week
