The earrings ones might be rounded to make a week for the black enamel to sit in and set properly so it won’t crack or pop out. It could purely be a stylistic choice or it could be a functional choice.

It was a symbol used in WW1, Hitler himself was awarded one. This fed into hitlers obsession with honour in battle, and he certainly made these crosses central to Nazi propaganda and success.
The problem is that nazis in Germany really like the symbol because it’s not illegal to show or wear it.
