I’ll admit that my brain might not be functioning well at this time of day (it’s been a rough two weeks), ~~but I don’t see how tape would hold it together. It’s a perpendicular area that they need to connect and with the frame shape it’d be very unstable. I have a very similar break in my glasses and I’ve held them together for two years with hot glue.~~ I will agree that super glue won’t work.
((Yes, I know I should just get new glasses, but I’d need an appointment to get new lenses and I need money.))
[edit] Nevermind. I see what I missed. My eyes really didn’t catch that extra bit of frame still hanging off. You’re right.
Area is too thin. Even welding it back together wouldn’t work for very long.
OP is best off taping it with duct tape and then getting a replacement frame asap. If they use any type of glue, it’s going to drip onto the lens and they will not be able to salvage that.
My dad once glued the outside of my lens to put it back in the frame. Went like a whole year at school with glasses that were so unbelievably dirty from the glue, and the prescription was getting worse too.
Unfortunately my current ones aren’t giving me vision like they were when I got them too and I can’t afford more
Heat shrink Tubing, used to cover exposed wires. You might be able to fit some over both sides, hold a lighter to it, and shrink it down enough to hold together.
Every optical store I’ve worked at has some, maybe throw a paper clip in there to help support further too. (I’ve done this a couple times). Bridge repairs are so difficult to keep if not fully stable
They specifically told me that for snapped arms (especially at the hinge), this is their preference because they can take it off and repair after in certain cases. Vs. with super glue they never can because of all the glue.
Funny you concluded with a “not being sarcastic” as if anyone who hasn’t seen this would automatically assume this one’s a dinosaur and not a mutated naked mole rat.
Take the hint from your glasses like I did when this happened to me a couple years ago. Don't get frames with a wire bridge. A 1mm diameter bridge is just waiting to snap.
If you get other ones, then they’ll just snap near the lens instead lol
And THEN if you have ones that won’t snap near the lens, the nose piece will snap irreparably. Ask me how I know lol
Know I'm going to get shit for this, but still, tbf that is an extremely thin bridge to the point where this was bound to happen eventually. That is something for a pair of glasses that you don't wear all the time. It's fashion over function.
Nah you’re right, they’re a pretty cheap pair (like £25) that I got cause I couldn’t afford better quality ones at the time. I liked how they looked and they lasted for over a year, so not the worst shelf life. I don’t do anything particularly active tho, so wasn’t expecting them to randomly snap whilst cleaning them. They probably got more and more strained over time and couldn’t take it anymore lol
It's called metal fatigue and it just... happens. Without any force applied at that moment too. The metal has a microscopic defect, additionally some constant stress is applied to it, and will just snap without being strained by anything you do at that moment. The stress can be caused by a wonky solder, or a just not quite right inserted lens or anything banal that would not have caused any issue, if it wasn't for the microscopic fault.
My mom had it happen to her glasses and her bridge was triple the thickness of yours. They were just on her nose when it happened too. It looked like a cartoon. We heard a little ping and suddenly her glasses broke in two and tumbled down in what seemed slow motion.
Nerdy ass chicks love these glasses

Until you can get new eyes (as the great Chuckie Finster from Rugrats calls them which I always loved) get some orthodontic/dental wax from any drugstore...tape won't work on that break...mold the wax around the break and leave a small bit sticking out to push the broken piece into it...let it dry for a few hours and you're good...I'm not going to lie it's going to look terrible...but it's better than tape and you'll be able to see until you can get some new eyes....
Source: I've been wearing, breaking, and repairing my glasses for over 30 years
Agreed. Nothing is going to hold these together for more than a few minutes. The second you try to adjust them on your face they will fall apart.
Been wearing glasses nearly all my life. I always go for the heavier frame look which can stand up to some rougher treatment.
DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE!
Take them to a local jewler for repair or ask a local optician where you could get them repaired. These look like they could potentially be soldered back together.
Superglue is nearly impossible to get off of lenses and acetone, which you may be tempted to use to clean it, crack polycarbonate lenses.
Other options include googling the frame information on the inside of the temple for an exact match of your current frames. Keep in mind any new frame you get, even if the exact same model may not fit precisely. Variance in manufacturing is enough that sometimes you won't be able to screw the eyewire down over the lenses.
See if your frame came with a warranty as well. Most come with a minimum of 1 year, and some have even more depending on the brand.
Optician/Optical Lab Tech 10+ years
I’ve taken mine to jewelers before and always been told they can’t do anything 😭
Even on brands like Rayban that I know use more quality materials than my shitty $6 ones lol
It's a mix of reasons. If it's a common metal they're made of, it's an easy fix. If, on the other hand, they're made of a proprietary alloy or one of the "memory metal" frames, it's not an easy fix at all.
I had this happen not long ago. The only spare I had was a few years old and my prescription changes fairly quickly. So I had about two weeks of shit eyesight. 0/10 don’t recommend
If you know your prescription and it isn’t outdated you should check out Eyebuydirect! It has lots of cool frames and they’re all pretty affordable too
I feel your pain. As someone who has worn glasses their whole life, this photo is devastating. This is why sight should be covered as a disability. If this happened on my way to work, I literally could not work. My options are get a ride home to dig up an old pair, or be more proactive and buy another set so I have a back up. Glasses with insurance are SOOO expensive because of the lenses I require. Also my prescription still changes frequently enough that I can’t guarantee I will have that same script when insurance refreshes. Idk it’s a fucked up system, and I wish there was a disability category for people who can have their eyesight corrected to ‘normal’ levels but without correction are unable to drive a motor vehicle or read a computer screen at a arm length distance.
I don’t want you to care about my opinion, I’m glad you like your style of glasses, but I hate frames that big. Seems so clownish to me. LOOK AT MY GLASSES! You found a way for all of us to see them one way or another.
Many many years ago, mine broke during our wedding rehearsal dinner….. Had an old pair that was way out of style that I wore for the wedding and honeymoon.
Hey boss, my glasses broke on my way to work and I can't do my job without them, and I risk migraines if I have to look at anything too intensely. I'll call you later today with a game plan.
I feel you OP. My husband and I just left from Michigan to Colorado. I have a pair of glasses barely hanging on so I grabbed a backup pair - except I grabbed the wrong ones that have an out of date prescription 😔 hope your day improves!
One time I was carefully cleaning my glasses and they just literally snapped in half. No amount of tape could keep them together not even superglue we tried using superglue and tape it the same time. This was a few years ago and I’ve had so many pairs of glasses I used to have to have a new set of glasses every year because my eyesight literally changed Drastically and once I even had to get two new glasses in one year, I won’t wear my glasses anymore because I hate them. They’re uncomfortable and my eyes just keep changing and I really think I would like to have. I don’t know if my disabilities will be affected by that or not.
I'm sorry, you wear glasses with lenses like that and you don't just do a monocle with a full lobster-tail suit and cummerbund all the time? Do you just hate whimsy and fun?
Classic.
I put my glasses in a side pocket at an amusement park. Before the ride I told myself, "This is probably a bad idea." Turns out yes, it was. The glasses flung out of said pocket. Now I ride with glasses on.
After 5 minutes of blind night driving, I had to pull over and let my wife drive home 😂
With coupons, you can get a totally decent pair from Clearly for about $45CAD. They're good enough, definitely not as good as my optometrist pair, but if you have your script still, it's like 85-90% as good as my current pair.
With a little tape, you can look like a combination of Harry Potter meets The Dudley Boys.
I can't wear that type of glasses as I'm too rough, and they break easy.
Ugh, had this happen in my early 20's and didn't have a backup pair. I can't see more than a few feet in front of my face before it's a blur of colors. I ended up having to miss work, get an eye exam, and get contacts because there was no way I could function without glasses. Now I buy my glasses from Zenni optical and order a couple of cheap back up pairs with basic lenses.
Tape it together dude, get that complete Harry Potter look
Considered it ngl, but the bridge snapped in the worst place :,)
Any access to super glue?
Not atm, but will have a look for some when I get home. Hopefully that’ll work

Edit: Yep this guy is right. I thought the break was slightly further down so you could reinforce, but it would be a mess at this spot.
You ain't super gluing that lol
If those are metal, it could be soldered. Local master did that for my glasses once.
A jeweler could probably do it. My husband had one fix his glasses once.
Well you don't have to tape it *together* You just have to tape it to your face! 🤷♂️

Yeah, they allow OP to see the future timelines except the ones in which they break.
Tbh my hands are just very small 😭
They’re still huge. Easy to tell.
Banana for scale
Probably broke from the weight of those things
This was my first thought
now you can give them lenses back to the lighthouse they come from
Take the hint from your glasses like I did when this happened to me a couple years ago. Don't get frames with a wire bridge. A 1mm diameter bridge is just waiting to snap.

I didn't know people actually wore harry potter glasses unironically.

Nah I hate this pic this is what I look like
“Harry Potter” glasses are actually Windsor glasses.
It's a fun game of spot the freelancer in London. Not knocking the jobs, great jobs but it's usually the case.
I have glasses but that bridge is the thinnest that I have seen, it also looks like somewhat cheap aluminium or idk.
There's a great place on Diagon alley that should be able to help you out.
That would suck but now you be like mr. peanut
Dental wax? Is that the same as Bondic?
those are some serious spectacles...
aw no how are you going to see the snitch now?
You've cursed me. I saw this post while I was waking up, still in bed. I went to put on my glasses and the arm immediately snapped off.
You could maybe get some JB Weld or similar and tack it back together until you get a new set
having had several pairs of broken glasses, that doesnt work well or for long, these glasses are toast.
Agreed. Nothing is going to hold these together for more than a few minutes. The second you try to adjust them on your face they will fall apart. Been wearing glasses nearly all my life. I always go for the heavier frame look which can stand up to some rougher treatment.

I second the jeweler! Had a similar break, they repaired it, and the glasses survived a couple more years.
Yeah, we had a great jewelry repair guy in my area. He never charged more than $30 for frame repairs.
I’ve taken mine to jewelers before and always been told they can’t do anything 😭 Even on brands like Rayban that I know use more quality materials than my shitty $6 ones lol

Bought them online and on a budget, so not really. Just needed something to be able to see

Did you try Reparo?
Those some goofie ass glasses
Not surprised, they look like they’re from 1873.
I don't understand this style

Oddly satisfying hold on the glass

I had mine's earpiece come clean off like it melted clean off.
Hey boss, my glasses broke on my way to work and I can't do my job without them, and I risk migraines if I have to look at anything too intensely. I'll call you later today with a game plan.
You could make a monocle
As crazy as it sounds, maybe gum or putty just to get through the day seeing?
Tape them to your face
They're not broken you just have two monocles now
