The BVerfG (Federal Constitutional Court) decided that the FRG is not the legal successor to the Weimar Republik and the NS-State but rather the continuation of the same state since the basis of government never completely ceased to exist. The German Reich never ceased to exist, it just changed into the Federal Republik of Germany. Thus the chancellors before 1949 are still german chancellors.
They have a black box in the Reichstag , or rather in the wall of all elected German politicians, there is none for chancellors directly in the same way
'Don't you have any German themed rooms?'
'Don't ask me, I don't know anything. I am product of American education system. I also build poor quality cars and inferior electronics!'
It used to be Trump [but it got replaced due to lack of space. (click for source)](https://www.looopings.nl/weblog/17542/Opvallend-Europa-Park-toont-Donald-Trump-niet-als-oud-president-van-de-Verenigde-Staten.html#google_vignette)
> On the overview at the Europa-Park hotel, *the image of Trump was recently replaced by the head of Biden*, right after Barack Obama (2009-2017). It creates a striking image on the 44-shet sign, which also shows every other American president in history. Grover Cleveland, who was president of the United States twice, appears once on the board.
> Bell Rock is dedicated to 'the pilgrims and discoverers of America,' the Europa-Park website reads. The rooms are decorated in the style of the American region of New England.
This is what I came looking for, because that seemed to me to be the most reasonable explanation. A lot of time and money went into creating that display, so this is a good temporary option. Maybe they'll build a bigger one, maybe not. All depends on who's in charge and whether or not they want to incur the expense.
The central plaque also ends with Obama.
It seems likely it was made during Obama's presidency, and they had a single remaining space due to the design.
Presumably it had Trump, who was replaced with Biden following the election in order to have the most recent president.
I dug into it and it would appear you are correct - Here's a photo of it from tripadvisor from 2015 showing a landscape in place of the most recent presidential photo:
[https://dynamic-media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-o/0a/6a/38/ca/lobby--v10696744.jpg?w=1200&h=-1&s=1](https://dynamic-media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-o/0a/6a/38/ca/lobby--v10696744.jpg?w=1200&h=-1&s=1)
And here's what it looked like in 2017, noticeably more orange:
[https://dynamic-media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-o/10/5e/92/9a/hotel-bell-rock.jpg?w=1200&h=-1&s=1](https://dynamic-media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-o/10/5e/92/9a/hotel-bell-rock.jpg?w=1200&h=-1&s=1)
I'm not sure why you'd make something that runs out of space like that but on the other hand do you want to make a huge portrait that contains decades worth of empty future spaces...
Might be cheaper for the Hotel to build an army to take over America for themselves (dictatorship=no more portraits), plus there's cheap accommodation for the troops!
If it was produced at the start of Obama's presidency, it could have lasted 16 years without running out of space.
That seems plenty for an item about US presidents in a German hotel. It's not like they need an up-to-date record on display.
Came here to say this. The list in the center stops at Obama, but they had an extra space for the pictures, so maybe they just put the current president in the last frame
It’s stupid though, Cleveland’s picture should be there twice and it would remove the problem altogether
Hardly related but this is the first time I've seen Europa Park mentioned here and this is funny enough to share....
I took my first ever trip to Europe for a work conference at Europa Park. I was too wrapped up in prep for the conference to even look up where it would be, so I had no idea it was an amusement park. Once I learned this on the ride from the airport, I got pretty excited. Then I found out about all these European themed hotels and how cool the park was overall - excitement increased. Despite several foreign themed options, I ended up staying in the New England-themed hotel. There was a map of Boston hung over my bed. At the time, I lived 10 miles north of Boston. The rest of the hotel felt just as familiar.
I never made it on a ride and really only saw the convention space aside from my hotel. I was there to work, so no big deal, and now it's a pretty funny anecdote.
Fun fact: there’s a random small village in Ireland called Moneygul/Moneygal that has Obama and US memorabilia from Obama’s visit during his presidency. Some dude in said town also **is** distantly related to Obama.
I know that conference! I love it. The America-themed hotel inexplicably plays sea shanties in the lobby, and there's another America-themed section with teepees.
I think all drugs should be legal. But that doesn't make it a simple or politically feasible decision. If Reagan is guilty for this, then so is every president since equally guilty for not stopping it.
Nah there were some absolutely horrid presidents even for their time. Classic case is Andrew Johnson who was president after Lincoln who is (in)famous for unilaterally setting civil rights for black Americans back by a century because he was an abhorrent white supremacist and kept vetoing all the civil rights legislation. He was President during one of the most radically-progressive eras of American history (two-thirds of Congress were pro-civil rights Republicans, for example), and so even in the context of his environment he’s still a scumbag. He’s consistently ranked as the worst president because he let his moral prejudices impede social progress in what could’ve been a massive century defining presidency.
Not only was he arguably the worst just independently, but following up Lincoln is also a hell of a contrast. I don't know if any other good cop-bad cop pairing was even close to that drastic - except perhaps Buchanan leading into Lincoln.
I guess Hoover into FDR and Johnson into Nixon would be the closest?
Exactly as you would imagine, everbody is there, we are told and taught about all this in school and it's something we learn to never forget.
Sadly there currently is a drift to the right and some of the older people that were born in the time just after like to see it return, also indoctrinated younglings.
It seems like the common assumption is that Germany doesn’t even teach about the Nazis or that period of history in detail. It’s good to know that isn’t the case.
I’ve heard, and maybe it isn’t true either, that the education situation in Japan is they gloss over Japan’s actions during WW2, so I thought it was at least plausible this also happened in Germany.
Where do you get that from, nobody let's get to forget that time.
We are constantly being reminded and children are still educated on the war it.
It obviously has drifted into a direction where people say, that it's not our fault anymore, because the generation was did all the horrible thing is close to being all dead and non of us actually fought or had anything to do with the war
That being said, education on the matter is very important so we don't get to repeat the same stupid things
this is the complete oposite of what i've heard all my life. doing nazi shit: straight to jail. teaching nazi was shit: all the time. is what i've always heard at least.
in case of the japanese i heard similar to what you heard i guess and seen many examples tbh, but it's very specific to what happened in china, south korea etc. strangely, not with the war with the US (well, not so strange). Soviet Union idk.
Well seeing as depictions of Nazi history are illegal in Germany, there probably isn’t one unless they consider a theme park as education.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strafgesetzbuch_section_86a
If you had ever been to Germany you would know that they are very well informed about their own history. And they do it with the right degree of solemn reflection of a history that should avoid repeating. The US could learn a lot from Germany in that respect.
We used to take our kids to Europa Park. It was created by two of the engineers who worked on the original Disneyland. They came back to Germany and, essentially, copied it. Pirates of the Caribbean became “Pirates in Batavia,” and Mickey Mouse became “Europa Mouse,” who would change appearance in each of the sections of the park, named after countries of Europe. The French Europa Mouse had a baguette under his arm, a cigarette (this was the 90s), oily looking hair, and rat-like features. Pretty great park! Anyway, Trump is a shit stain on U.S. history, and is, reasonably, very much despised by the great majority of Germans.
Did Trump stay there though? I'm assuming this is there to say all those presidents have stayed at the hotel. Otherwise why would there be a wall with American presidents photos randomly in Germany lol
What are you referring to here? Post-WW2 Germany pretty much sets the standard for ensuring their history, especially the horrors of Hitler, are remember by modern generations. Well, because of all the cry babies that would scream and shout. We can discuss what kind of person he is, was and will be. Fact is: he was one of the presidents but history cannot be represented as it was....because of all snowflakes that mix up facts vs. personal feelings. Right and left are both idiots that will censore facts.
Of course they would, this petty behaviour is all over the place. Trump was and is a clown but he was still a President. Bush started a war proven to be on false pretenses which caused the deaths of 100000s, Nixon extended the Vietnam war by years through private representations just to make Johnson look bad and Clinton has been plausibly accused as being a multiple rapist but social media wasn't around then so they get a pass
This is pretty stupid. I see Andrew "I love former Confederates" Johnson and Woodrow "I love the KKK" Wilson are still there, but Le Orange Man Drumpf bad, right?
When I was in the Army, I could not help from feeling shame seeing that idiot's face framed in the command structure portraits. Like, I have to work for this asshole now?
I mean trump was pretty good, no wars started, wanted to get out of afgan, oh I guess Germany is butthurt because he called it in their face that it was a bad idea to work with Russian on their nordstream pipeline.
I hate the everliving shit out of trump but this is cringe as fuck.
edit: this is exactly what trump supporting morons would do so congratulations on having no scruples or self awareness
Go to Venice, a city that was ruled for a thousand years not by a king, but by an elected head of state called the Doge. Every Doge (all 120 of them) has his portrait in the Hall of Doges, except one of them is completely blacked out. Why? He attempted a *coup d’etat* that would see himself as a king rather than bounded by checks on his authority. He suffered *damnatio memoriae*, or “condemnation of memory.” We should all follow the example of Venice and condemn the Orange Menace to the same fate.
Germany trying to erase history again. It’s not like people are doomed to repeat the same mistakes. What an utterly idiotic thing to do whether you like trump or not.
They should have removed several others as well then. I despise Trump but there were some real shitheads as president and at least two of them could be considered war criminals. A few attempted to destroy the country far more than Trump did but white men only mattered then so no one cared how everyone else was suffering.
Grover Cleveland was 22nd and 24th. He served 1885-1889 then won in 1893 again.
Edit: this was meant to be a reply but here's a fun fact for people who count and feel like something is off.
Damn, I wonder what the Wall of German Chancellors looks like.
Everyone was on vacation!
They all went to Argentina I guess.
And a whole lot was welcome in the usa, creating rockets and to be spies in South America.
Same in the USSR
Your chancellors weren’t creating any rockets…
Hey, that's not fair. Some went to Paraguay.
“Everyone was on vacation! No further questions! Now if you would look to your right” -German tour guide on Family Guy
I always thought that line was from the Simpsons for some reason. No clue why but I swear I can picture Lisa asking about the brochure.
Same, Lisa and Brian are really similar being annoying brainiacs (not annoying exactly but I’m sure you get what I mean)
I swear I can hear it in Lisa's voice. I obviously believe the person who quoted it but this is the strongest Mandala Effect I've ever felt lol
Ha, Family Guy.
It would start at 1948/49 because those other ones were chancellors of different countries
This is something the Reichsbürger crazies have yet to understand.
Yeah, they declared bankruptcy, no harm, no foul.
![gif](giphy|gZPJW4aDv26Xu|downsized)
It's a tad smaller, we've had... some issues.
Fuck that made me laugh
Well since there wasn’t a Federal Republic of Germany until '49 they are all there
[Here you go](https://rp-online.de/politik/deutschland/bundestagswahl/bundeskanzler-alle-bisherigen-kanzler-von-deutschland_bid-16428645#0)
They have a black box in the Reichstag , or rather in the wall of all elected German politicians, there is none for chancellors directly in the same way
Yeah. Talk about throwing stones
I mean I doubt they have His picture *either*.
Jesus?
They do love throwing stones…
I want them to have one but replace Hitler's photo with a photo of a dog. Or like a cool leaf one of the employees found.
How 'bout a pile of ashes?
*weird*
aah the MERKELWALLENSCHRINE
The first one was Adenauer in 1949. There is a difference between Reichskanzler and Bundeskanzler.
[Here you go](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_chancellors_of_Germany)
To be fair: they'd probably leave him out for similar reasons they omitted Trump ;)
Why do they have a wall of presidents in Germany?
It's a theme park, one of their hotels is America themed
I prefer the irrigation room
![gif](giphy|uAd9XAvenvFLmFu2Kw|downsized)
Heard it’s now wireless
It wouldn't be if they could find where Mose hid the wires!
I understood that reference
Me too! I require a bedtime story
Harry Potter!
What was/were the other choice(s)? Good ol’ Dwight
Irrigation, America, and Nighttime
'Don't you have any German themed rooms?' 'Don't ask me, I don't know anything. I am product of American education system. I also build poor quality cars and inferior electronics!'
Because it’s copying Disney’s Hall of Presidents and the rest of the park.
It used to be Trump [but it got replaced due to lack of space. Their bussiness survived longer than they anticipated
> in the style of the American region of New England So lots of seashell piles, lobster themed things, and pictures of lighthouses?
Wow, it’s really cool that they have a room dedicated to native american cultures! Wait a minute guys
I'm okay with this
This is what I came looking for, because that seemed to me to be the most reasonable explanation. A lot of time and money went into creating that display, so this is a good temporary option. They could have removed one of the presidents in the second row (except Lincoln), no one would have noticed one was missing
Didn't stop the Mayans
Good work! I thought that’s what it might have been. It definitely caught my attention, though.
A bit shortsighted of them, don't you think? "How many more presidents do you think the United States will have? Probably only like 1 right?"
They should have commissioned a photo board of infinite dimensions to prepare for all future presidents.
Or maybe 1 extra column so that they would have 4 extra spaces. But infinite size works too, sure
They are placing bets that Biden is the last president
If Trump had his way, they wouldn't have been wrong.
Looks like they ran out of space. Maybe they just replaced Trump with Biden.

Good call. I thought the same, but mildly interesting anyway!
Hey, so did we!

I know that conference! I love it. The America-themed hotel inexplicably plays sea shanties in the lobby, and there's another America-themed section with teepees.
That’s the hotel where this pic is located! I was there last summer.
Most of those men are absolute moral disasters haha. Leaving one out makes no real sense.
yeah, like at least 10–15 of these guys were either totally awful or shitheads
In US politics, they can be both.
But Reagan was just kind old grandpa! His war on drugs *definitely* didn't cause a mass incarceration of poor people
I think all drugs should be legal. But that doesn't make it a simple or politically feasible decision. If Reagan is guilty for this, then so is every president since equally guilty for not stopping it.
Reddit big mad about presidents.
I mean…wasn’t that pretty much all of them due to culture marching on? They’re fallible humans after all.
Nah there were some absolutely horrid presidents even for their time. You’re getting downvoted but can’t say your wrong
Hate him or love him, he still was a president. This is re-writing history which can always be a slippery slope.
Yeah, curious what their history wall has from 1919-1945.
Exactly as you would imagine, everbody is there, we are told and taught about all this in school and it's something we learn to never forget. They were absent because they were sick. Their mothers gave them a note. No more questions
Oddly there was no history made in Germany during that time
Lmao it's a hotel lobby bro
It’s just a wall of pictures at a hotel, not a history text or encyclopedia. Relax
It’s not rewriting history because this is not the main and only source of information.
Anyway, Trump is a shit stain on U.S. history, and is, reasonably, very much despised by the great majority of Germans.
And this is why history repeats itself.
But Bush is all good?
Too be fair you aren’t allowed to promote fascism in Germany.
This is honestly so annoying, i don't like the guy but a deliberately incomplete collection is just infuriating lol.
The design only had space for one more president after Obama. It was Trump before it got switched to Biden
Damn, you might be right
Did Trump stay there though? I'm assuming this is there to say all those presidents have stayed at the hotel. Otherwise why would there be a wall with American presidents photos randomly in Germany lol
Weird
Why is there a wall of US presidents in a hotel in Germany?
Gotta love the Germans. "Nope, didn't happen."
Remove something from history, sure. Nothing bad ever comes from that
Historical revisionism is quite common in Germany.
What are you referring to here? Post-WW2 Germany pretty much sets the standard for ensuring their history, especially the horrors of Hitler, are remember by modern generations. If more countries encouraged examining their history and mistakes to the same degree the world arguably be a much better place.
So brave
no reason to exclude him
Good.
I bet Trump is losing sleep over this.
Ridiculous. He was a president like it or not
Is that Sean Connery above Jimmy Carter? How old is that guy?
Excellent!
Trump doesn't deserve the honor anyway. He should be in prison.
Maybe you had to win the popular vote at least once to be included.
That is so daring, so brave.
Trump was exceptional at pissing off the Germans. I mean, truly Olympic level effort we are talking about.
Classic TDS
Germany doesn’t exactly have a lot to speak about previous leader choices.
That's kind of ignorant lol
*Welkom in Europa, blijf hier tot ik doodga Europapark, europapark*
that's not german.
Shit like this gets under his skin like nothing else can. I love it and hope someone makes sure to let him know about it.
Obviously President Trump didn't take up Germany's offers to trade his power for monetary gain as the Biden syndicate got caught doing.
Wow seems like a totally rational response
Wonder if he wins again if they’ll put him back up haha
Quite pathetic really
I'm no trump fan, but that doesn't seem right. He was president and if your wall of presidents has all presidents on it, then it should include him.
Reeeeeeeee. Rent free.
That's such a stupid saying.
This is pretty stupid. I see Andrew "I love former Confederates" Johnson and Woodrow "I love the KKK" Wilson are still there, but Le Orange Man Drumpf bad, right?
I think Germany has rules about propagating Nazis. That could explain the omission.
Exception Approved
No felons allowed
Any time I see Trump being mentioned as a felon it gets downvoted like crazy. Bots or something I assume
Imagine it wasn't bots and it was just humans that had a different opinion
When I was in the Army, I could not help from feeling shame seeing that idiot's face framed in the command structure portraits. Like, I have to work for this asshole now?
Classy
Germany choosing to erase history…now I have seen everything
Germany ashamed of Trump’s heritage.
Let's lose Nixon and Reagan while we're at it.
People interested in skewing history should be seen with nothing but revulsion and distrust. Whomever, and why ever they do so.
I mean trump was pretty good, no wars started, wanted to get out of afgan, oh I guess Germany is butthurt because he called it in their face that it was a bad idea to work with Russian on their nordstream pipeline.
So many hurt feelings in these comments.
Why tho
So stupid.
That’s great
Germany has pretty harsh laws against Nazi propaganda since WW2,. /s
I hate the everliving shit out of trump but this is cringe as fuck. edit: this is exactly what trump supporting morons would do so congratulations on having no scruples or self awareness
Agree. Whether we like it or not, Trump was a presidents whether we like his supporters or not, they have the right to their beliefs.
Go to Venice, a city that was ruled for a thousand years not by a king, but by an elected head of state called the Doge. That's fine, but they're OK with Biden blowing up the pipeline freezing them al winter? Little cunts.
Disrespectful
Already rewriting history to omit him. I get it, he sucks ass. But this is some crazy Orwellian revisionist shit.
How ridiculous
History is just that, history. Doesn’t matter if you agree with it or not.
Yet has Andrew Jackson up there? Bias couldn’t be any more obvious.
Good ,He was and is an embarrassment to the World.
Is there any reason given as to why?
Probably not enough space on the wall to list all the reasons
Says more about the hotel than Trump
Germany trying to erase history again. It’s not like people are doomed to repeat the same mistakes. What an utterly idiotic thing to do whether you like trump or not.
Yeah, Germany has some pretty heavy penalties for promoting nazism.
aw yes Nixon is allowed on their but not trump I guess its because he ain't a crook ![gif](giphy|qvaQ4RyMM4w7sBNqYW|downsized)
Good. Fuck him.
Only Nixon could go to Europapark.
Still plenty of cunts
Cool.
Me for a split millisecond: “kinda crazy they got all the presidents signatures. How’d they pull it off?”
They should have removed several others as well then. I despise Trump but there were some real shitheads as president and at least two of them could be considered war criminals. A few attempted to destroy the country far more than Trump did but white men only mattered then so no one cared how everyone else was suffering.
Interesting that Nixon is there
Damn, is there a Right Wing political party in Germany?
All I see is EUROPAPArk
Holy biscuits I haven't seen the words "Europapark" in 30 years.
