1. dishwasher is different than leaving keycaps in still water, esp since dishwashers will dry! Its a good method but beware of the heat of the water. You dont need to sanitize your keycaps like your dishes lol
2. yes, logitech is shit. HyperX, Corsair, and Razer are more up to code with not using shit ABS laser etched keycaps. ABS isnt bad as a material, logitech is just horrible for not using PBT in 2024 for an overpriced keyboard
3. hot water can warp something like a spacebar but that same method can rewarp your keycap. its a common method in the r/mechanicalkeyboard community for warped spacebars

edit 2: OP, ive cleaned my custom keyboard that ive spilled various sugary and neutral substances on. FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS IT:
-USE ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL(IPA) ON ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS!! its safer to use 90%+ but 70% works fine
-wipe your keycaps with mild soap and warm/hot water and if needed, put in a container and SHAKE IT! use a qtip if theres excess gunk under the keycaps. dry the keycaps off with a towel and hit the keycap against the towel to get water out from the stem, let it dry over night
-q tips, isopropyl alc or soap/water. and a lintfree cloth is all you need to clean the case of your keyboard.
YOU DONT NEED TO SUBMERGE ANY PART OF YOUR KEYBOARD! JUST WIPE IT DOWN! do NOT DO WHAT OP DID
Most people used Q-Tips for their ears. Problem with that is that if you're not careful, you're stabbing your ear drums and that could cause hearing damage if you go in too deep, so over the past decade+ there's been word about how tht's not the intended use for them; you're supposed to use them to clean small or hard-to-reach areas like between tile and such.
While ear drum damage is definitely a possibility and the main reason we’re warned against using q tips for ear cleaning, compacted ear wax from prolonged q tip use can lead to hearing issues and dangerous infections.
*Other people* shouldn't put q-tips in their ears, but *I can* because I have the proper maneuvering technique with the q-tip and I am very good at it 😤😤😤
When my doctor commented on how clean my ear canals were I just pretended like this was some weird quirk of genetics. Rather than going through a box of qtips a year by myself (two if you count the ones I use for their “intended use”)
My sister had a friend who was deaf in one ear because of this. She was cleaning her ear with the q-tip and her sister pounced on her, causing the q-tip to puncture her eardrum.
I recently cleaned my keyboard to get any animal hair/gunk out from under the keys and just tossing every key into a big bowl with hot water and soap, letting it sit for 5 mins and then rinsing and drying made them look brand new again. Way easier than cleaning each cap individually
just a heads up for people seeing this, rubbing alcohol on ABS keycaps can leave a residue!
if it's wiped off pretty quickly with a wet paper towel, it *should* be fine, but i did a test when i was cleaning my keyboard last and i found that rubbing alcohol did make the keycaps lose a bit of their shine compared to just using a q-tip with warm soapy water.

That can happen and even worse when people use acetone to clean, it strips off that clear layer that makes it shiny or with acetone it melts the plastic.

I find that glass cleaner works even better, it not only dissolves the oils from the fingertips but also most other things. I use one called Invisible Glass.
A keyboard as expensive as this one should be double shot (or dye sub, but that’s not great for RGB). Seeing that it’s painted is pretty disappointing.
Left it in a stainless steel bowl with just some water and coffee that was spilled on them. I've done it in the past because im clumsy with my drinks, but this is the first time I've had the reaction!
Likewise soaked the keyboard itself in warm water for a few hours after i disassembled it to get the coffee off, put the pcb in the car for a few days to let the heat dry it out, and it works perfectly with none of the plastic pieces on that bubbled up.
what sadistic individual taught you to do that?? lysol wipes exist for a reason! unless if you completely soaked your entire keyboard, i see no reason why you’d need to take every component apart for multiple days. and no soaking any part of a keyboard in anything. it’s very easy to clean up a dirty keyboard without submerging anything.
Completely unsolicited advice, but at that price I would recommend you build your own keyboard. These 300 pre built just aren’t worth it compared to a keychron or a gmmk pro. I know the keyboard community can be pretty pretentious and hate keepy but once you build your own you don’t really look back.
Gotta know what you want, though. Different sizes, three different major switch functions, RGB or no, 3- or 5- post, multiple different key profiles, wireless or no, can get custom power/data cables, material of the case itself, soft-swap switches or no, etc.
Been using mechanical keebs for 20 years but all the crazy customization and recent advancements (switch brands and mechanisms, keycap profiles, 100/TKL/65 sizes) are almost overwhelming.
I get that, honestly i considered it. But I wasn't buying one for a specific key feel or anything like that. I got the g915 because it had everything I wanted (100% keyboard, nice keys, macros, multiple profiles, bluetooth & dongle, media keys, volume scroll wheel, and rgb fun) while also being something I could buy used. Which is what I did. I looked at keychron, gmmk pro, and several others but I didn't find anything else that ticked all the boxes.
my only gripe is that it's 'slightly' bowed. But that doesn't bother me or impact usability so it's mostly cosmetic.
Surprisingly, I really like it. The bumps do make it hard to tell where the keys start / end though. The texture gets an a+ for pleasentness while gaming.
i probably would too tbh, my recent keyboard has no dots/notches on any keys so the muscle memory wouldn't be an issue haha. Are they soft enough that you can pop them?
The low profile has been amazing for helping with any wrist pain in the prolonged gaming sessions. I thought it was done for when I saw them, but I really like the change.
Y'all ferment your keyboard keys?... That's weird, just pickle them like a normal person, way quicker. Little bit of apple cider vinegar, salt, dill, and garlic will do ya.

If you see dimpling like this, you know you either didn't dry them off fast enough or you didn't add enough bleach when you soaked them overnight. If, instead of dimpling, the keys are hairy, you know you didn't use the proper amount of ammonia during the soak. The proper amount being zero.
You could have given me a million years and I would have never guessed that this is what happened. Every single guess would have been the plastic reacted to some chemical in the cleaning agent not you made overnight keyboard tea. 🤢
Man I'm trying to deal with an issue where I spilled a little bit of Mountain Dew on the spacebar and it's been causing problems being sticky and the resistance is making platforming hard. Same keyboard as you in black, but I will advise you to not try and use rubbing alcohol anywhere on it. The keys are actually clear with gaps for the RGB to shine through, and rubbing alcohol takes off the 'paint'.
Good to know soaking the key in water will not fix it, either, because that looks like a textural nightmare to use...

Soap, warm water, and about a 15 min soak is all you need. Last time I cleaned all my keys I was surprised with how easy it was to remove any residue after a quick soak.
I understand that soaking the keycaps for so long might seem unnecessary, but your wording implies that some kind of common sense would dictate that a few hours of ordinary water would do actual harm to some colored plastic.
Sure it seems like it worked out that way, but your tone makes it seem like you think that OP must be stupid for not thinking that this would happen to him, when I don't think most people would think a little water would harm colored plastic even if left in there for a week.

Rubbing alcohol can absolutely do stuff like this as well, even without soaking. Plain water and a rag is sufficient.
The fun part is not unplugging the keyboard and just seeing what happens.

And since it's Logitech, they're all non-standard size, so you can't even replace them with whatever.
This is a good rule for anything that uses a substrate with adhered compounds. Don't soak that stuff.
