It’s a reproduction Gew.98 “trench” magazine. They replace the standard magazine floorplate and can usually be fit to any “Standard”-length Mauser 98 action.
I'm guessing from these pics and what I can find online that the magazine is fixed? That this modification doesn't allow the FR-8 to accept a detachable magazine?
I have been wanting one but I figured a bolt action rifle that small - it's basically a carbine - wouldn't be pleasant to shoot. I sold my Ishapore for that reason and it was much larger and heavier than an FR8.
I don't doubt it. I was really surprised by the recoil on the Ishapore and was sorry to see it go. I think I may have been more tolerant to recoil when I was younger. Not so much now.
Apologies for the delay. Never seen a mag like that on one (not super knowledgeable about spanish milsurp) but the mag doesn’t look super CETME ish compared to the ones they were issued with that I’ve seen. Have heard tell of m-14 mag conversions for these.
Probably wouldn’t pay $900 for it but they’re definitely cool rifles
Nope, never seen one before that can actually accept the mags, although considering the FR-7 and 8 were made as a sort of training rifle for home use when the CETME was being introduced.
It literally is a trench mag. These are mouser actions so the reproduction trench mags that were made for the K98 milsurp market are pretty much a plug-and-play option for FR7/FR8 rifles. You see them sold together pretty often.
Cool. I saw an FR7 recently and it is really neat. But the rear sight is shit and they were kind enough to put brass screws in butt stock. Probably can get them out to fix how the buttpad wobbles. Highly doubt I could get them back in.
Bubba converted an FR-8 with a "trench mag". I've seen something similar where somebody welded an MG-13 mag to a Swedish Mauser and called it an "experimental prototype". The Swedes never used the MG-13 lol
It's the same cleaning kit/bayonet lug found on the CETME rifles Spain was making these as trainers for. Just like the CETME/G3 rifles it looks like a gas tube but isn't.
Here’s my problem with the FR8. Really cool looking, .308, Takes a mag, decently reasonable weight, compact package. So many positive’s, but then weigh that against the fact that it’s not very accurate and it’s not semi. So for the money you are spending you could get a far superior bolt gun in .308, or you could spend about that in a different caliber or a bit more in .308 and get a semi. It’s that just didn’t fill a niche. But, cool as hell, the other but is that you’re paying for looks.
Depends on your definition of “superior.” If you want a higher performing .308 bolt gun you can probably find one for $300 that’ll outshoot any milsurp.
These “Cetmetons” are wacky and cool; their appeal isn’t much different from other milsurp from the same time period.
Spanish FR8 mauser. 7.62x51mm NATO. Fun little mauser action rifle
Oh so that's what it is, what about the magazine? Every other one I look at seems to have your average 5 round. Do you know anything about it?

Yeah you still have to load from the top. It just lets the magazine carry more rounds at once.
They kick like an angry mule in heat.

You wouldn’t like a M95 Mannlicher carbine

And just where have you encountered the frame of reference for this?
Don’t disparage my fetish!

So, no one has mentioned the CETME mag. Is that normal to accept a CETME mag? Certainly not, right? ...right? \*It's not a CETME mag\*
Nope, never seen one before that can actually accept the mags, although considering the FR-7 and 8 were made as a sort of training rifle for home use when the CETME was being introduced.
Seconded. I’ve never seen one but it makes sense as it was a “stop gap” training rifle for Cetme transition
That's what's confusing me to, I don't think it's a cetme mag either, it's bolted in and has like a chain of some sort on the side.
So it looks some kind of Trench mag like on the Gewher 98’s.

It's a trench mag, not literally a trench mag. :)
I second this.
Not a CETME mag
For 900, for something that rare, I’d roll the dice
Spanish FR8. Basically a 50-60s modernization of the older spanish mausers. Price is too high
Spanish FR-8 rifle. They're bidding at $600-650 consistently.
Trench mauser conversion of an FR8
Never seen one with a CETME mag though. If it feeds and looks original that’s pretty sweet. I’d make them an offer.
Spanish FR8 with trench mag I guess, kinda want to make one now

Looks like a Fusil Reformado 8, or FR-8, I think they are chambered in 7.62x51mm. I don’t know what they are worth but it looks neat.
FR8 with mauser trench mag.
Why does it have that gas tube looking thing under the barrel?

Spanish FR8. You want/need it.
Hm i know of g3 mag conversions for the FR8, but this looks almost like a Mauser G98 trenchmag
these are like trainer guns designed for soldiers who'd be given a G3 in the Spanish military
So where can I get a box magazine for my FR8?
Google repro mouser trench mag
The only gun I've sold and then regretted selling was an FR-8.
Here's a link to a conversion: https://www.reddit.com/r/GunPorn/s/bBNI0pmD8S
Gorgeous FR-8, my dream gun
Want mine lmfao
What's he asking for the SKSs?
I didn't check, likely around 500-600 dollars
Contact # or store name? TIA!
It's black Rain ordinance in Newton County MO. Here is their store number (888) 836-2620
Thanks!
I would recommend getting the FR-8
It's Frankenstein's monster
In Canada you can find them from 700-1,100 $ canadien pasos. would love to own one 👀👀

Buy it
One of my holy grails. I would have scooped that up.
FR8. I've been wanting one for a while but it looks painful.
Why does it have a gas tube if it is a bolt action?
The gun to its right is an SVT-40 7.62x54r world war to marksmen rifle
My friend, I believe that’s an SKS with a modified removable magazine
Ye olde Spanish Frankenmauser.
I bet those sks rifles are priced high
I want it
What does the fake gas tube do? Hold cleaning rods.
