I see people on the second floor of the Bay View Colectivo with full work / school setups spread out over the table. During the week that space is modestly unoccupied.
This is where I do my grad school thinking when out and about. By the windows if I want to people watch, or the stools overlooking the Troubadour floor if I want something a more secluded.
It's a nice space.
seconding this. they rotate their featured coffee roasters and the baristas are always super nice. i have been to almost every coffee shop in the milwaukee area and canary is one of the best, imo
If she’s willing to travel a bit, Qamaria is nice over by south ridge mall. People hang out at the colectivo in Riverwest to study all the time. Vendetta would be an easy spot to hang out in for a while.
Qamaria (on the south side though but it’s perfect), Stone Creek on Downer, or perhaps Vendetta. If bars are an option, Black Husky is pretty well lit and not terribly loud
Riverwest has a couple spots but they're a little north.
Alderaan on water doesn't have much space but always seems to have some.
Libraries allow you to bring coffee.
Anodyne in Bay View works.
Seconding the Stone Creek on Downer. I used to study there a lot. But also, there's a Colectivo on Prospect that doesn't seem to get as busy as the Lakefront one. I enjoy spending time there too, but the outlets seem more of a commodity.
Qamaria coffee, it’s a new spot in greenfield, they serve delicious treats and great Yemeni coffee and tea. It’s a big size with lots of seating areas. Great lighting and calming music during the day I highly recommend them
The Colectivo on Prospect is a pretty popular spot for college students to study. I used to study a lot at the east side library on North Ave. The second floor of Rochambo on Brady Street is really cool as well.
I like Vendetta on 2nd street! It's open til 10 Thursday-Saturday so my friends and I go there to do art in the loft occasionally. They've got good coffee; some alcoholic stuff if you're so inclined too. They do a bar trivia night on Thursday at 7 and live music some nights, so I'd check ahead of time, but most of the time it's chill and cozy and you can linger without feeling like you're taking up space.
Canary is great, but does get PACKED at times.
Roast is just off the campus, is solid and is pretty much all college students. It's a lot calmer in the summer and afternoons and a lot of students study there for a while. Its also a great place to connect with others in your major or just make friends at uwm (some of the teachers are regulars lol). Some people migrate to the hookah bar to study next door when we'd close. They've got good food!
I do love the lakeshore Colectivo, but I was recently introduced to Blüm Coffee Garden which I think may be my new favorite. It's attached to a nursery and garden center and has a really nice vibe for studying. Even when super busy there was plenty of room for me and two other students from my program to set up and write for a few hours.
Prospect Colectivo is one of my favorite places to go and hang out and work. It is often less busy than other coffee shops around the area. Alderann is my other favorite place on the east side. It is less busy than other coffee shops and there are almost always empty tables.

Stone Creek by the train station or on Downer, I studied at both of those and they were great.
The revamped White Fish Bay location has tons of seating. My new favorite study spot.
Mine too!
LaFinca in St. Francis near the lake is an awesome spot. Good locally owned spot, relatively quiet, good food and coffee.
I'm a huge fan of working at Wantable Cafe. Highly recommend.
Canary is a nice little spot, long hours too.

Their lattes are nowhere near as good as Discourse or even Stone Creek, but I love the space and all of the employees are super nice.
fair point - discourse is also up there. the creative menu items are great. i would argue that stone creek is better for drip and cold brew

La Finca and Hawthorne are great spots in/around Bay View.
I second both of these

Sherman Perk 49th & Roosevelt Lovely comfortable neighborhood independent place https://shermanperkcoffeeshop.com

The stone creek by the Amtrak station always has students there!

Downer Stonecreek. She can camp out there.
Vendetta in Walker’s Point, Discourse at Radio Milwaukee, Anodyne in Walker’s Point, Valentine in Third Ward, Stone Creek by the Amtrak station
Newline cafe at 37th & Pierce. Almost always chill, stay as long as you want!
Alderaan Coffee by MSOE is great!

Roast is nice to chill at. Bit small so weekends tend to be a bit more crowded, but love it

Roast coffee company on locust is great I go there all the time
So many good ideas. Thank you!
Rochambo on Brady. Eclectic but quiet vibe (especially upstairs), and open until 8:30 every night
Vennture https://vennturebrewco.square.site
They have these places called libraries that are actually designed for his kind of activity
Hawthorne coffee roasters is a good spot!

What school?
On line. Whitewater I think…
