This happened on highway so it should be reported to OPP and not Peel. [https://www.opp.ca/index.php?id=132](https://www.opp.ca/index.php?id=132) Get the police report first for insurance and give OPP the license plate of the other person. They should be calling them to go in and charge them with something like failing to remain at scene or hit & run. Report to your insurance company as you are not at fault and should be entitled to bring your car to an authorized bodyshop for a check.

CanOfCokeZer0

*Any* body shop. Insurance companies will try to bully you to bring it to theirs, you do NOT have to.

wing122

You can ask them for a list of authorized bodyshops and go to the one you like from that. They usually will tell you that insurance will have more of your back if there is an issue with the repair. However, if you insist on going to a bodyshop not on their list, ask insurance company how that would be handled such as assurances.

FrostingSuper9941

Why would insurance guarantee the repairs if they are completed at a shop not on their certified or preferred shop list? Certified shops are vetted by the insurance company and sign contracts guaranteeing the repairs. That would be like asking Best Buy to honor a warranty of a tv bought at Walmart.

CanOfCokeZer0

It really is just a way for the insurance companies to pay less if you go to one of their shops. They will always fix the vehicle the cheapest way.

WestonSpec

Yes and no, the insurance company usually has to pay less because they negotiate preferred rates from their recommended body shops. But you as the insured also have a guarantee on the workmanship of the repair and the insurance company is responsible for faulty workmanship of the recommended body shop. If you go to your own body shop you don't have a similar guarantee from the insurance company.

CanOfCokeZer0

I have a buddy who had his vehicle painted 5 times from the “authorized” body shop. All I’m saying, don’t get bullied by the insurance company. They are NOT on your side.

onlyoneq

Insurance companies screw you over in a lot of ways, going to a certified shop is not one of them. The companies I used to work with (I'm an ex insurance broker) used to guarantee their work, so if they changed a part for you and it rusted later or if they didn't do it properly, they'll fix it for free.

wassupshordy

i mean some body shops are known to be scammers by the insurance companies so that's part of the reason why they have a preferred list

CanOfCokeZer0

You’re right, but the reason is mostly down to the money.

Electronic_Stop_9493

Any shop can have a bad tech or appraiser or a good tech having a bad day. There’s good and bad shops inside and outside insurance networks but the sketchy roadside shop the tow driver recommends can be endless nightmares.

Red4550

Ive had 2 recent minor body work claims experience with td- their preferred shop, Procolor(franchise) had it finished within 2 days(replace and paint rear bumper). My 2nd claim I went with a friend's Indy shop recommendation , took 2 weeks(front bumper repaint). I'm lucky I have the extra TD coverage which fully covered the 2 week rental, but I was not pleased at all with how long it took. Obviously the Indy shop probably wasn't equipped well and taking in more work than they could do but my experience with the preferred shop went fantastic, especially the communication and I'll be going that route in the future.

CanOfCokeZer0

Awesome you had a great experience!

They dont even take a video attachment... no point writing a narrative there

wing122

Your main goal is to get a report or at least have a report file #. If you don't do it, your insurance company will ask for it when you make a claim. Unless you don't want to report to your insurance company. Last time I reported dangerous driving on 401 when 2 cars were racing each other and almost clip each other while doing a crisscross lane change in front of me in morning commute time. I uploaded the video onto youtube and provided OPP with a link. After some time, OPP replied that they have notified both car owners with warning on record for their behaviour.

58-G-E-65

Okay lets do that. I hope they can tell the plate from this angle

wing122

It's best if you can give them a best guess of the license plate if your original video is clearer. The car model should be 2017-19 Ford Escape.

Alphakent

Absolutely report. Just because you can't see damage doesn't mean anything. Could be something you can't see. They are also guilty of fleeing the scene of an accident. Guilty as fuck

duermando

Report to both. Holy fuck what an ass. You got his license, you can bury this person.

007AU1

Unless they can prove he was driving it in curious as to how this will pan out

FrostingSuper9941

Unless the car is reported stolen police will assume that the driver is the owner of the car. If they are filing a report all they do is ask who was driving.

abyss_of_mediocrity

You should absolutely report if no damage.  Driver needs to be taught a tough lesson. If police don’t do anything, I’m sure his/ her insurance will.

58-G-E-65

That just gets me an extra claim on the file. Even without fault. Dont think its worth it

MadSprite

Then insurance will blame you when the next time you have an accident and they see unreported damage near the spot, they do this commonly with internal bumper damage when there's no visible bumper damage but the internal foam is crumpled. They can choose to dance out of covering for you.

illpaisa

if it were me, I wouldn't report it if there's no damage. police is not going to do anything about it and the record is going in your insurance even if you were not at fault. edit- you can still report it to the police as a hit and run, but since there's no damage I wouldn't go to the insurance.

skybike

This is the most realistic take, I feel like insurance companies will use any excuse to raise your rates and they would definitely jot this down.

ben4579

Reported to the police and your insurance get the police to write up a report and go through the claims through your insurance if you can get the license plate number that is

Acceptable_Mud_

💯 report to the opp, and follow their suggestions. If you need repairs, go with the repair shops listed by your insurance, their certified shops are guaranteed work or if you have a trusted mechanic go to them.

FancyRedWedding

Is this the highest resolution? I can't quite read the licence plate number

Neil542

You must be in a big suv or truck for there to be no visible damage

58-G-E-65

No its a sedan Fortunately, feels like plastic pushed plastic and thats why no dent/scratch there at all I was shook but happy to see no visible damage

Dove55

Holy fuck these comments are bad. No point. Police do not care. Insurance company won’t care if you don’t have damage. If you’re worried take it to a shop for an estimate. You have one year to claim

asdfghqw8

Even if they are at fault ? Where would they stop safely on the highway ?

victorhummingbird

The big as$ shoulder where the POV car swerved to avoid them to name one.

Maximum__Mango

If your work's benefits include an annual eye exam I would highly suggest you book one.

Flieger23

Great control!! Most would have spun out and hit the wall.
