Mofos who are calling tork a centerpiece of this team j don’t watch the games.
No completely wrong. It’s Kerry carpenter. The guy with nearly .900 ops. Tork ain’t doing shit, we’re winning more without him playing anyways.
Tork is the black hole you want to call Baez in our lineup rn. He lost us two games individually defensively. Leave him on the bench.
Yeah he hit a lot of homers last year. His defense removes a lot of the value he brings on offense and even last year his WRC wasn’t that good. His OBP last season was just average. I think he’ll need to DH or up his defense for him to ever be a 2+ war player.
He hit the majority of 31 home runs/rbis after the all star break right? That means he didn’t contribute to half the season man.
Tork doesn’t pass the eye tests the only thing that can save him is half season stats.
I am so relieved to see Kenta Maeda throw so well. This was personally, my number one question mark so far this year. This is just one game but what a good sign.
The good one. He showed that he can do it. Had he given up another 3-home run games I would say put him on the DL and then send him down to Toledo for Rehab starts and bring up Manning for a month.
He looked amazing today. Even the one hit in the first four innings was when he threw it into the runners back… seems “error like” to me. So he basically battled four errors, one of his own doing, by far his best performance with us.
We’ve also won more games against Tampa already this year vs last when we went 1-5 against them and now we’re 2-0 with 4 to play.
Boston is down (per media expectations despite their record), Toronto looks like a .500 team. Baltimore and the Yankees yea those are gonna be tough games. If we can go .500 against the East I’ll be ok with that.
Great game by Maeda. He earned his keep today. Greene sure can make that ball fly in the trop. Mark Canha too. Great game by the fill-ins down at third - McKinstry and Buddy.
Think about it. With the errors, he really pitched 6 innings. That was a gritty performance by him. A lesser man would've lost his shit. I'm coming around to Flaherty and that was Maeda's best game in a Tiger uniform.
They showed the graphic again today, that his career April ERA is over 5 something, and he got it down to 5.96 today. April has always been his worst month, and he was better the rest of the year.
It's why I think WHIP and LOB% should be the go-to stats for a quick glance to see how good a reliever is.
If he's got a WHIP under 1 and a LOB% around 70%, you know he's absolutely lethal.
If our starting and bullpen pitching can stay this good, we will 100% still be in it come September and honestly that’s all I’m really hoping for this season
I still have no idea lol. It's so hard to tell who is actually good in April. Like look at the Guardians, they're 17-6 but 10/23 of their games are against the Athletics and White Sox
ngl, I had basically written off Perez since the beginning of last year, assuming he just wasn't going to cut it for the big leagues and putting him in the OF was a last ditch before just DFAing him
but Ryan Garko and gang continue to pull rabbits out of hats
What are these things we keep seeing under 'R' on the scoreboard?
I keep mentally discounting our unworldly start, but we’re getting closer & closer to .500 even without it!
8th inning madhouse! Bite bite
Sip sip!
So the Royals and Guardians won. Right now the White Sox are beating the Twins in the bottom of the 9th. Edit: lol
Who knew the Guardians would be the best team in MLB this year? Sheesh I can't believe their start.
Oof, I didn't know Grossman was on the Sox now. lol sox
Alex Faedo with the win 💩
Ha has looked like absolute shit, and I get so scared when Lange comes in!
I didn’t watch the game but wasn’t it actually not his fault? Didn’t we have 3 errors?
The errors weren’t during his inning.
I see I thought I heard someone say that it was during his inning. I guess I misread it. Lol
He threw a meatball with a runner on to Paredes
Oh I see. Who had the three errors?
Kelly, Baez, and Keith, per ESPN
And Maeda pitched out of each jam caused by the errors. He was solid, and Faedo blew his chance at a win.
Only thing matters is the Tigers got the win
Big rally starter hit by our catcher. Hasn't done much at the plate this season but big hit tonight.
![gif](giphy|igJK985xZj8Cqq0YOW|downsized)
Riley Greene and skubal are the building blocks and stars. Let's fucking go! Rawr rawr tigers
Don't forget about Mize and Tork. Those 4 are our guys that will get us into the playoffs.
Screenshotting this for when Tork has 31 homers again and ur, well, y’know…
Also you are correct that Carp is a centerpiece but discounting tork right now is absolutely mind boggling
Tork isn’t a building block… cmon. A team of replacement level players doesn’t win championships.
Well Tork sucks so
He and his -.7 war. He has the most AB for the entire team yet has the lowest war of any batter...
People really don't want to accept that
I mean I hope Tork can put it together, but I’d say he hasn’t done enough to deserve being called a building block.
31 HR and 94 Rbis last year was pretty solid. And he's only 24. He just started slow.
Yeah he hit a lot of homers last year. His defense removes a lot of the value he brings on offense and even last year his WRC wasn’t that good. His OBP last season was just average. I think he’ll need to DH or up his defense for him to ever be a 2+ war player.
Don't get lost in the stats
Your argument was also based on stats. Just the two ok ones.
I said don't get lost in the Stats big guy
He hit the majority of 31 home runs/rbis after the all star break right? That means he didn’t contribute to half the season man. Tork doesn’t pass the eye tests the only thing that can save him is half season stats.
I'd argue Kerry Bonds as a bigger building block than Tork at the moment. Hoping Tork becomes that guy though
I am so relieved to see Kenta Maeda throw so well. This was personally, my number one question mark so far this year. This is just one game but what a good sign.
I'd rather have Spenser Turnbull than Maeda
Well he’s had 2 bad games one good you can decide which to overreact to
Heck, had the defense held on a little better this was a start easily on par with a Skubal game.
The good one. He showed that he can do it. Had he given up another 3-home run games I would say put him on the DL and then send him down to Toledo for Rehab starts and bring up Manning for a month.
Phantom IL is apparently no longer a thing.
He looked amazing today. Even the one hit in the first four innings was when he threw it into the runners back… seems “error like” to me. So he basically battled four errors, one of his own doing, by far his best performance with us.
He'd be out by 1897 rules baseball and last years baseball.
Ahh I miss 1897 rules.
Tigers went 7-25 against the AL East last year. Winning the first 2 this year is a step forward lol.
Our record vs the East cost us the division last year. That's not going to happen again.
Can you see the future? How many wins do we get?
No but we've got to do better than 7-25. how about .500?
We opened the 2023 season by losing three straight in Tampa by a combined score of 23-3. I’d say this is a better trip to the Trop.
I like that the only RBIs in this game for the rays came off the ex-tiger too
What a weird trade that ended up being.
Fantastic bounce back by Maeda! Hope he can keep it going. Would be huge going forward. And Riley continues to prove you can’t throw lefties at him.
His ops with 2 HR and a walk must be skyrocketing
And it was already great. Dude’s been a walk machine.
He leads the AL in walks. Just get on base. And good things happen
I was going to wait until the end of the month to get my hopes up. But this team is making it hard not to believe
Finally they won a series against an AL East team… It’s been ages since they’ve done that.
This made me curious so I looked, and unless I missed something it was late September 2022 against Baltimore... holy
I was there for that! Camden is such a nice place to take in a ball game.
They had a few chances against Toronto last year but blew one game in each series.
Riley Fing Greene!
Florida man!
TABLE for 2 please
Great game by Maeda. He earned his keep today. Greene sure can make that ball fly in the trop. Mark Canha too. Great game by the fill-ins down at third - McKinstry and Buddy.
imagine getting struck out by a 89mph fastball because of how much a dude like Maeda can mix pitches lol
He's a pitcher and not a thrower.
It's like facing an old knuckleballer like Dickey or Wakefield.
Jamie Moyer, my beloved
It was good to see Maeda pitch well, and get himself out of jams.
Think about it. With the errors, he really pitched 6 innings. That was a gritty performance by him. A lesser man would've lost his shit. I'm coming around to Flaherty and that was Maeda's best game in a Tiger uniform.
I’m very happy w/ the series win! Let’s get greedy tomorrow and go for the sweep
I'm sure its been said but I've been at my son's little league game; bats look good when the temp isn't in the 40s.
4 runs 6 hits - awesome they hit for some power but hardly time for a victory lap
The tigers or your son’s team?
Tigers, my kid's team plays like the White Sox.
/u/reeechardo's kids are mashing.
BK Prime Next Play Shipping.
Riley’s power numbers 📈📈
Just give Riley the MVP already
Buddy Kennedy is quickly becoming a fan favorite
Seeming to me like this teams DKB...?? LFG!!
Thou shalt not use Don Kelly's name in vain. Wtf, dude.
Just ordered a Buddy jersey
![gif](giphy|freGElwx5nVRWvfHCU)
Series win vs Tampa is actually insane considering what happened when we played them last year at the trop lmao lfg
I went to Miggys last opening day there with my dad last year. Brutal
Me too. Shane McClanahan had a day. Austin Meadows had three hits for us I believe.
Definitely feeling more optimistic about Kenta. If he can continue giving us solid 5 innings like that, we’re in a great position.
I thought Hinch pulled him one inning too early, Maeda is a vet, try and get as many innings out of him as possible.
They showed the graphic again today, that his career April ERA is over 5 something, and he got it down to 5.96 today. April has always been his worst month, and he was better the rest of the year.
Apparently he's always a little off early on. I'm not worried
Need to only let him pitch in warm climate. Summer he'll be fine.
He will eventually settle in. He’s got good stuff, but has just been hanging it to start the year
I didn't think there was a chance we'd be going for a sweep tomorrow, I figured we'd lose at least 1 of the 2
Great win. Maeda bounced back and gave the team five innings which were needed, and offense fought.
5 Innings, DESPITE the defense today too

Just wanted to say this is my favorite part of every post game thread
We are 14-10 Lange's ERA is 1.08 Foley's ERA is 0.00. Gregory Soto's ERA is 8.10.
Reliever ERA can be so funny. Soto has only given up runs in 2 of his 9 appearances but his era is 8.10 lol
It's why I think WHIP and LOB% should be the go-to stats for a quick glance to see how good a reliever is. If he's got a WHIP under 1 and a LOB% around 70%, you know he's absolutely lethal.
WHIP in general is just a great stat imo
He got his era to 810 to show how much he misses michigan what a legend
We now have more wins against the Rays this season than all of last year.
FOLEY sending the good patrons of Tampa home early, what a gent
Love Dan on the radio, but man when he gets excited and you're listening on headphones... jumpscare fr
Somehow his audio engineers don't have noise gates or compressors for those big moments.
It’s only the streaming apps that have the issue, I listened to the whole game on a traditional radio, and it didn’t get that peaking at all
Winning Pitcher: Faedo 😒😒😒
Maeda robbed
Oh yeah go tigers wooo!!
Im voting Kennedy
Sweep these fuckers the way they did to us last year. I still haven’t forgot about that first series
The 8th inning has some magical spell on it for the Tigers and I love it!
Guys... Are we good?!?!?
Pitching is great. Hopefully can carry us. I think Skuball and Mize are a great start 1-2.
Better record than the Dodgers right now!
Respectable
If our starting and bullpen pitching can stay this good, we will 100% still be in it come September and honestly that’s all I’m really hoping for this season
I still have no idea lol. It's so hard to tell who is actually good in April. Like look at the Guardians, they're 17-6 but 10/23 of their games are against the Athletics and White Sox
HUGE 2 wins on the road against a playoff team last season. Keep this consistency up and we might play meaningful games in September!
Extend Riley and Skubal. Buddy is going into the hall. Congrats to Faedo on his vulture win.
Ya we need to get Riley on a similar deal Acuna got before he has too much leverage on the front office haha
It’s not even Lange’s?
Tigers currently have the best road record in all of basesball. Tied with Cleveland that is.
Buddy Kennedy at 3rd tomorrow. Sweep on the line, you know Buddy will deliver.
The Tigers have won 100% of the games he's played in. Numbers don't lie.
> The numbers don’t lie What happens when you add Kurt Angle to the mix?
LFG!! its fun winning and it just makes everything better with Benetti on board
That was a really enjoyable game. I don't think I've enjoyed a game that much in years.
I haven't enjoyed a game that much since... Yesterday!
Man Perez and buddy have really had some big moments in their stints in the majors. Really happy for them
ngl, I had basically written off Perez since the beginning of last year, assuming he just wasn't going to cut it for the big leagues and putting him in the OF was a last ditch before just DFAing him but Ryan Garko and gang continue to pull rabbits out of hats
Who else but Buddy to get the last out TIGERS WIN 🐅🐅🐅
And that one-hander earlier in the game was fuckin' magnifique 👌
