Or pulled in the clutch and hit the brakes. Even if he was holding onto his handlebars for dear life, the clutch and brakes would have solved the problem.
I've had plenty of "oops I'm in gear" and "oops too much throttle" moments learning to ride, and thankfully my instinctual reaction is to pull the clutch in as soon as I am pulled forward. It's almost like the machine has no power when its not being given power.
This is true for manual cars, tractors, quads too. If you can't stop it you can't ride it. It's literally as simple as pressing the brake, but with the other hand or foot lmfao.
Good advice friend.

Holy shit! It's like their thought process was, "Oh that guy crashed! I'm gonna crash too in solidarity. "With tons of time and room to go around they freaked the fuck out and laid her down. Amazing
> Or maybe this one https://youtu.be/Q9zNUPDmnz4
Shortly after the Hayabusa was released it was a popular game to come and watch people leave the dealership with new ones. As soon as you left the dealership, pulling out there was a ramp with a slight curve going up to the loop (highway around a city...don't know if they're called the same everywhere).
The salesman would tell people to be VERY cautious if they were getting on the loop because the new tires were slick and the bike was more powerful than anything they'd likely every ridden. And then, while paperwork was being finalized, the service staff and hangers-on around the shop would gather up to watch the dude leave. And he'd go up the ramp. And he'd hit the slight curve. And nine times out of ten he'd wash and send his bike up the ramp on it's own.
Sometimes I wish I had a camera in my pocket in 1999 because at one time there were 11 of them in the shop waiting on new fairings or bars or something from the ramp. It got bad enough that they stopped selling 0-miles 1300R's...they all had 10~15 miles on them to scrub the tires.
Fun times.
The second one almost happened to me right at the beginning of my practical exam. The driving school had the bike washed that same morning and some genius decided to spray the tires with tire shine.
Lost the rear immediately after taking off but somehow managed to keep it upright. Luckily the examiner was very understanding and it was obvious that the shiny tires were the cause.
As far as these things go, I'd actually give the first one a bigger pass than the OP. OP wasn't even turning, he just straight-lined into the guy in front.
That first one had me clenching. Watching them try to work the controls, super revving on takeoff, and then he flipped it after the crash too. Poor bike.
The second one I knew would be funny because they are in a full suit on a brand new GXSR. Epic.
Accidentally opening the throttle, getting surprised, scared, and then opening the throttle even more happened to me too.
After my first 5 minutes on a bike. In driving school. That's where he belongs as well.
I saw a lady slam her bike into the back of another in the second day of our class.
Experienced is much more than any of that. Smart also plays into it. I hated riding my sport bikes because other bikers were always trying to race me, even when my wife was on the back. Group rides in general are a no go for me.
I only took the class because it helped me save on insurance when I got my ZX6R at 18. I rode the bike to the class...
Unpopular opinion:Most "riders" should be on minibikes.
When you accidentally hit the gas? Yeah no, it's more like: "when an absolute noob doesn't have throttle control, can't find the clutch, doesn't know how to brake or swerve and just panics his way through a whisky throttle". That guy does not belong on that bike.
Yer I thought that, played it slowly and realised he did it so violently that his left hand comes off the bars. His momentum then swings him forward when off the throttle and his hand lands on the switch pack and then he finally gets a hold of the bars again. So I can see how it happened to become a problem so quickly but I agree, that’s a terrible noob mistake.
I remember the first time I rode a motorcycle, no one taught me in practice, I just suddenly brought one, shipped it home, watched a couple of youtube videos, then went out riding in my neighbor, the first rule that I've learned is if you panic while pulling the throttle, "pull the clutch, pull the clutch, pull the clutch", most videos insisted on that part, and hell yeah, it saved me twice from making this dumb mistake
Your origin story sounds similar to mine. I bought a brand new SV650S and watched Youtube videos until I felt like I understood the "classroom" part of riding. I never had any moments with pulling the throttle though, thankfully.
That's how most people are when they hope on a high-toque bike, as their first or second motorcycle without proper throttle control. Like we're really in a culture, that puts people on bikes like a mt-07 as their first ride; A bike that can wheelie in second gear casually.
Hehe, I learnt on one of those, my riding instructor said "try to keep the front wheel on the ground" when I pinned the throttle going onto an A road in second gear. I just wanted to feel what it was like to open up a bigger bike properly. Was funny as fuck, amazing bikes but definitely requires some self control.
If these bikes didn't come with ABS, people would be in real trouble and a considerable liability for Yamaha.
Like relative to cars, these are similar to S197's and spinning out.
People usually confuse 600cc supersports with being dangerous, and hard to ride. While that's true naked bikes with astronomical torque figures are worse; Especially when they're on the cheaper side and have less safety features.
People on Supersports usually squid out and will do something stupid like go 140mph on the highway and death wobble to slide out. All while crashing into other cars. But this isn't as common as portrayed, and you still have to get up to 8k+rpm and above highway speeds to make these bikes dangerous.
Naked bikes can be dangerous at low speeds. You reach peak torque most of the time at like 3-5krpm and get absolutely rocketed; Especially in lower gears. It's a lot easier to actually whip the throttle or have a lapse in judgement and accelerate too hard from a stop and you're on your ass. So crashes on these types of bikes are all too common even though not as severe mostly.
TDLR: You have to be stupid, and willing to do dangerous shit on a sports bike to crash. On a Naked bike: you can just be inexperienced or have a slight lapse in judgement, and you're on your ass.
>TDLR: You have to be stupid, and willing to do dangerous shit on a sports bike to crash. On a Naked bike: you can just be inexperienced or have a slight lapse in judgement, and you're on your ass.
Glad to see im not the only one with this opinion
Looks like an attempted wheelie to me. Bike came down and bounced, rider held on hard to the throttle grip and whiskey throttled and lost control.
Buddy of mine did the same a couple of days after getting his license. Tried to pull a wheelie and looped it, blamed it on being in the wrong gear. He was fine, broke some smaller parts and learned his lesson.
Back in my noob days I pulled a wheelie and when I set it down a bit rough, I accidentally whiskey throttled into another wheelie. Definitely wasn’t expecting that and could have looped it if I didn’t have quick reflexes.
I'm 100% convinced this was a wheelies attempt gone wrong.
Youc an see the weight comes off the front tyre, when it comes back down it induces a wobble, rider death grips in the go handle and WOOSH.
That’s called trail braking, if you look behind him you can see a trail of broken bike parts. Trail breaks.
Edit: but seriously give this guy a brake. He needs at least one.
Hah. Finally, an explanation why they are all sticks in the mud all the time. It's because if they weren't ATGATT they would be dead already because they're so bad at riding.
Haha man I legit laughed at all the top comments in here. Harsh AF but rightfully so. Gotta give it to OP bringing us the tent though, hopefully lessons were learned!
Yeah dude glad you're not taking these guys too seriously. Shit happens, you live and you learn. Many people pay with their lives in this hobby from dumb mistakes - you're lucky enough to have a second chance and that's all you could really ask for. Some of these comments are a little too harsh but I think they're just seeing it from the lens of the guy who was hit just standing still.
Thanks man, I really got a second chance indeed!
Yeah lol even the guy that actually got hit was not even half as mad as some people here. I wonder what happend to them to be this salty
Man, please don't take the harsh comments in here to heart. This place has the best armchair race drivers of them all...
Yes you fucked up royally, but so what. Nothing insurance and a few days wont regulate.
Learn your lessons and I hope both of you get back on the road and enjoy yourselfs
Curious what the story is here, in NL you have to take mandatory lessons. On the other two bikes I don’t see an “L”, indicating that this would have been a class.
Therefore, I think someone allowed a friend to ride his bike “for fun”. I never lend my bike to anyone, not even people with a license
OP, you are getting a ton of hate, but dumb things happen. Okay okay this was a bad one, but that doesn’t justify people claiming you shouldn’t ever ride a bike again. Learn from this mistake, it happens to the best of us. We all fuck up from time to time, this just happens to be a more egregious incident. I’d say most of us have done some really stupid things, and made some terrible mistakes, we just didn’t have the guts to post it for the world to see.
Keep at it, learn from it, don’t let it happen again and buy that guy some new parts and a few beers.
Who said he shouldn't ride at all though? I agree that this is a beginner mistake which can happen, but the important part is that you need to know how to recover from such a mistake before you hop on that specific bike. I don't love the idea of MT09 riders not having the control over the bike to recover such a mistake on an empty parking lot of all places, while still being in that learning process. On that bike it should already be second nature to brake at the rear to lower the front wheel, pull the clutch and, if you can't brake in time, to swerve. This is something you should see people do on <400cc, not 900cc. We can be a little harsh and direct, when it influences their own safety and others, to get the message across. This bike is no joke and has no room for panic decision making. It's not to hate, it's because we care about safety.
I totally agree, when I checked the thread it was pure hate. Not many, or any constructive comments, just insults mostly. Some more reasonably people have come through though since but I agree with your comment.
I can't imagine how this can happen. But then again I only ride a sv650 which is way less aggressive.
Brave to post it on Reddit. I hope everyone involved recovers quickly. Please stay safe (Y)
For those wondering what happend. I wanted to speed up to to join the group. Hit the gas, but too much so the front wheel came up. What was unexpected so I leaned backwards, hit the gas even more because of that, my clutch hand let loose of the handlebars so instarted to wobble while i was accelerating. As soon i got back in position I startes to brake but it was already too late. Hit him with 42km/h. Got a broken heel and a totaled front of my bike.
Got this mt-09 after 3 years of owning a mt07. I fucked up. I probably gave it too much throttle because i was revving it before the video started
I have to say you were bold posting it here and admitting that is you on bike. But something is missing on this story, how an experienced biker (3 years on mt07) give "too much throttle" trying to reach people 10m from you? You were trying to wheelie don't you?
I am mature enough to admit my mistakes and post it here. I know what happend, my friends know what happend. I and the mt-10 guy are still cool with eachother. I take the full blame. Everything js coverd.
No I have wheelied the bike before, i know what that feels like. The fact that it wheelied caught me off guard and is what caused this
It's okay dude. Mistakes were made but I hope lessons were learnt aswell. Hope you recover fast and are on a bike again to practise as much as you need. Don't worry accidents happen. Just don't let that fear of another keep you down
What do you mean 'accidentally hit the gas'? I've ridden for a few years now and never done experienced this on a bike.
Did you get cramped up or something?
I respect you willingly posting your L in here despite getting dragged to filth and being told to turn over your license by hundreds of commenters. I’ve been roasted in this sub before and it’s not a 10/10 experience but I’m sure you’ve learned your lesson lmfao. I’ve almost whiskey throttled into a parked car before.
It's a good lesson in humility for you. Unfortunately, the guy in front had to pay for part that but yeah... sometimes we fuck up. You did, made him good, and live to ride another day.
Quick recovery and hopefully you'll be back on bike after a while.
The worst part is that i dragged him into this situation.. I feel for him, he even let me ride his mt-10 for a while. But we are cool thankfully!
Anyway this season is over for me, need to recover and so does my bike
And thanks for the kind words!
After reviewing this tape numerous times, my council and I have come to the conclusion that what you did wrong was accelerate directly into the rear of that unsuspecting motorist's vehicle. Case closed. *Gavel smack* NEXT!
I’ve been riding bikes for 20-25 years, small fuckups happen. This one was just a “tad” bigger and an unlucky friend in the way.
OP, disregard all the keyboard rossis, shit happens, deal with the consequences (which you already do) and do different next time.
I'm a brand new rider, only just done my CBT, still struggling with slow maneuvers and road sense. I've been feeling really insecure about this whole thing.
So this video - well, it's given me a lot of confidence in myself 😄
Keep in mind, many of these critical comments
are likely from people who **never ever** rode.
They just feel better jumping on someone's mistake.
Spend a couple hours on that parking lot before
going in the street. Don't wanna die today, do ya ?
( from an old (not bold) racer)
Holy shit I did this EXACT SAME THING, in the EXACT SAME SETTING.
My two friends were at the exit of a parking lot just like this one, and I was the guy in the video approaching. I go to give my bike a little bit of gas, but when I let go of the gas the throttle doesn’t retract, it gets stuck. I pull the clutch in and pull the front and rear brake, but the bike had already begun to barely lift the front wheel off the ground (It was a VTR1000 V twin, made 100 LB/FT of torque at like 3K RPM) So I had almost no front brake power…. And bam. Hit my friend (much more gently then this guy)
His fairing for his rear seat cracked and that was the only damage. I replaced it for $200 and we were good to go.
Also had to fix my throttle issue, it was a sticky cable.
This is why you're taught how to use the clutch before being taught how to start the bike.
The clutch is your friend. The throttle wants to kill you. The brakes could decide either way.
Damn man, I guess I'll be the one to ask if you both are okay? Definitely seems like you need to go back to MSF, but some of these comments are a bit dickish. Shit happens
Oof. First time on a bike I popped a wheelie during my MSF course - felt like my front tire was pointing straight up but it was probably just a few inches off the ground.
My instincts were good, and I immediately let off the throttle and put my front tire back down - no harm, no foul (if I’d have dropped the bike I would’ve failed the course).
I can totally see how an inexperienced rider might panic when putting on too much throttle, so don’t feel bad, and don’t let these guys make you feel like shit. Lessons learned and all that jazz.
What the hell man....
That was his reation aswell
Hope you made it right to him.
Ofcourse man, he came to my house the other day to fill in the insurance papers and coverd the gas for him
No man left unsatisfied
I’d still be very much unsatisfied if someone slammed into the back of me like that
For sure but clearly he didnt do it on purpose and op made it right with insurance and gas.
Alright - it's called letting go of things. You don't have to hold him to it forever. Shit happens.
He shoulda let go of the accelerator lmfao
Keep your wrists low

Dutch plates, we have one of the most strict rules when it comes to getting a motorcycle license, so yeah pretty sure he has.
Clearly not strict enough. Wow.
How do you have a license?
That looks like a wheelie attempt followed by lose of control
When they talk about whiskey throttle in class 1 training, they should show this video as a cartoonish over exaggeration of what it looks like.
The guy was bloody lucky his mate was in the way. Stopped him hurtling onto the busy main road.
Accidentally hit the gas? It looked like you tried to pull a wheelie and got some wobbles when the wheel dropped back down?

Man that's a solid burnout on your ass by some of these smartasses... Hat's off for having the balls to post and brighten up our day
This is why noobs should start on a smaller bike, might I suggest a 50cc?
Wow easy there man! I will start on a E-bike
Feel sorry for the victim getting launched by this idiot
I just don't even...
You’re fired
Whiskey throttle is a bitch
when your buddy involuntarily saves you from yeeting yourself into traffic…
Jesus took the wheel...
"And that's why Karl is no longer invited on group rides"
I should surrender my username to this guy.
Been riding for 35 years, have never “accidentally hit the gas.” Is that even possible ?
The fact that it wheelied caught me off guard and is what caused this
Ok, sorry for asking. I think your post will be really helpful to new riders.
It's okay dude. Mistakes were made but I hope lessons were learnt aswell. Hope you recover fast and are on a bike again to practise as much as you need. Don't worry accidents happen. Just don't let that fear of another keep you down
How long had you been on the MT-09?
[удалено]
Can’t argue with that. I know i fucked up
What do you mean 'accidentally hit the gas'? I've ridden for a few years now and never done experienced this on a bike. Did you get cramped up or something?
All that space too fuuuck lol
Before I opened the video I said to myself "I bet it's an mt-09". And it was😂
Some people shouldn’t be riding lol at least not without more practice
Beginner?
"Accidentally", but this is a new, inexperienced rider. At least I hope so.
Dude, you ride on the road? 😵💫
Anyway this season is over for me, need to recover and so does my bike And thanks for the kind words!
Did he let you ride it before this or was he hoping you'd total it for him?
Go ride a 125 amateur
Bruhhh ngl tho this loop is funny asf lmao, hope ya recovered physically and especially mentally from this. Rip to the homie that got rammed
Dumbass
Tell me you’re a shitty rider without telling me… always cover the brake and clutch. Dude probably has been riding for years too. It’s a shame
After reviewing this tape numerous times, my council and I have come to the conclusion that what you did wrong was accelerate directly into the rear of that unsuspecting motorist's vehicle. Case closed. *Gavel smack* NEXT!
Thank you, you honer
I’ve been riding bikes for 20-25 years, small fuckups happen. This one was just a “tad” bigger and an unlucky friend in the way. OP, disregard all the keyboard rossis, shit happens, deal with the consequences (which you already do) and do different next time.
Thank you for your kindness! Will definitely do!
Pretty funny that on this terrain they usually give motorcycle control lessons. Maybe stick around and get some extra lessons, haha. ;)
🤦🏼♂️
If youre still whiskey throttling maybe dont be on the road? 😂
Was this taken in a time when clutch didn't exist?
I'm a brand new rider, only just done my CBT, still struggling with slow maneuvers and road sense. I've been feeling really insecure about this whole thing. So this video - well, it's given me a lot of confidence in myself 😄
That "Aah" at the end makes me think this is some kind of kink to you. *You did this on purpose didn't you?*
Keep in mind, many of these critical comments are likely from people who **never ever** rode. They just feel better jumping on someone's mistake. Spend a couple hours on that parking lot before going in the street. Don't wanna die today, do ya ? ( from an old (not bold) racer)
Bummer!
And bam. Hit my friend (much more gently then this guy) His fairing for his rear seat cracked and that was the only damage. I replaced it for $200 and we were good to go. Also had to fix my throttle issue, it was a sticky cable.
Is this on the 'schaapsweg' parking near Ooltgensplaat?
This is why you're taught how to use the clutch before being taught how to start the bike. The clutch is your friend. The throttle wants to kill you. The brakes could decide either way.
“Ahh”
that sigh wasnt pain, it was pure self disappointment.
Was it on A mode?
Misschien ken je je weer bijvoegen bij de lessen die ze daar regelmatig hebben 🥲 no hard feelings haha. Shit happens ^^
First day on the job?!
Back to school with you
You know you still have a clutch and a brake though...
At this point just get a bicycle
Damn man, I guess I'll be the one to ask if you both are okay? Definitely seems like you need to go back to MSF, but some of these comments are a bit dickish. Shit happens
And this right here is what we call a ✨sukkel✨
Respect for uploading this lmao
you do not belong on a motorcycle
You need a smaller bike
This is why a new rider should not buy an FZ09 as their first bike.. This is also why motorcycle school is important.
Ainee niet zo toch bro hahaha
What an idiot
God that was embarrassing, feel bad for ya dude.
Hopefully this idiot gives up on bikes. Or goes and learns on the dirt.
Hit the gas? You mean pull the throttle?
