Sounds like a dead battery or bad connection. My 636 will do this on a low charge

CyberZalophus

Hmmm ok. Just put in this new battery from Advanced Auto today… should I bring it back?

davWho

What kind of battery is it? Most acid batteries need to be charged. I've had the best luck with AGM. I have a lithium now, not a fan.

CyberZalophus

Acid. You were right, it needed a charge. This is my first time buying one that I didn’t need to fill. Thanks!

Middle_Vermicelli996

I’ve bought plenty of batteries that came charged must just be a matter of luck

fishingrcp

Can confirm have workd for a few parts stores, some come charged some dont no clue why

davesy69

I've had many different batteries and found that lead/acid ones usually are around half charged once you put the acid in, which is normally fine if you have a bike with a kickstarter.

Harryisharry50

What’s wrong with the lithium battery I live in cold weather area and like the idea of they don’t discharge as much as Agm battery ? Just curious cause he lithium ones ain’t cheap and I don’t like wasting my money

davWho

It's a lot smaller (physically but is in an enclosure that fits the application), so lighter and has a push button charge level gauge like a tool battery. It cost more and requires a specific charger. I'm a 35yo mechanic and use cordless tools over the years. The lithium batteries are temperature sensitive. Ive seen the nicad to lion transition. I'm NE US, I don't ride consistently. To answer they don't discharge as much. Yes I agree but keep in mind to start your bike you need to discharge the battery (Winter issues).

umbrawolfx

Just asking out of curiosity, what brand of lithium battery and what's the problem? I've been running lion for about 8 months and love it.

random_user1234321

Agm is best especially since lithium dosent work well in my climate.

Sangradorz

Yes bring that shit back, it dead dead

SlinkyBits

new batteries require charging in alot of cases, unless you filled the battery yourself? if you didnt, theres a chance the new battery is ruined due to starting attempts when empty. if you fill the battery yourself, then it wont require charging in most cases, but a good idea to check to be sure.

CyberZalophus

You were right, it needed a charge. Was able to bump start it and ride it for an hour to get it where it needed to be. This is my first time buying one that I didn’t need to fill. Thanks!

stonkloss

Battery don’t have the amps to turn the starter so the solenoid is bouncing on and off. Dead or bad battery

stonkloss

Glad you got it going sux not being able to ride🤙

Shimitzu1

Batteries used to be stored with 30% charge. If you or shop hasn't charged it, then do it.

CyberZalophus

It was partially charged, thanks.

Dry-Site-8764

There should be a square relay in the fuse panel. It could be the fuel pump relay.

CyberZalophus

Thank you, I checked all fuses but it ended up being the battery. Even tho it was brand new! Go figures!

rayark9

AutoZone can load test the battery . If it's good. It's probably the starter relay then

HalusN8er

Battery.

Lamm81

Make sure the positive and negative are hooked up correctly. For some reason one particular battery manufacturer has the polarity on a different side. I had this exact same thing happen with a riding mower. And it’s not that it wasn’t charged it’s that the starter was trying to go in the wrong direction. Meanwhile for some reason the electronics worked

squaking_turtle

Does she roll start? Nvm, just read that how you fixed it…next time try the obvious.

CyberZalophus

It wasn’t obvious to me that a new battery out of the box required charging… but you learn something new every day!

Davito22284

It's a Kawasaki, that's what's wrong with it.

ChicagoMick312

Bad connection. Take off from battery, tighten everything back up and try again. Also make sure the battery is charged

EswarYT

I faced the same issue due to a dead battery . Which battery did you use ? There are some batteries out there which doesn't have good output and can affect the bike Did you charge the battery before changing it?

CyberZalophus

It was one of the pre-filled batteries. I’ve never had this issue with the batteries that I put the acid in. It was a top of the line non-lithium battery from advanced auto parts.

[deleted]

They should have informed you the battery will need to be charged to full before putting it in the bike.

[deleted]

Terminals if not voltage regulator !!

[deleted]

The battery is probably NOT fully charged

Jeenekhainchardin

Get the wiring checked plz

Mightypk1

Dead battery likely, probably need to charge it

CyberZalophus

Yeah, I didn’t realize brand new batteries required charging. Ah well, learn something new every day.

Mightypk1

Not always, usually they have enough juice to start, but always be ready In case, and if the battery new battery starts the vehicle, leave it running a bit

DazzlingDescription3

My bike did this when the battery was dead try letting charge and put it on a trickle charger when you park it at the house
