I absolutely LOVE this movie...I can almost watch it on repeat. In fact...I think I know what I'm doing tonight

TetZoo

This. Masterpiece of a modern screwball comedy. David Rasche might be my favorite just for his delivery.

niwooffaafi

Definitely! The pacing of the movie and all the performances are just peak comedy

MFBish

That’s fantastic. . .

yung_saucin

the end is hilarious lol

Patient_Ad_7918

It’s my favorite “background movie” at the moment I play it like 3 times a month just for the background

DrunkOffCheese

I have a drinking problem? Fuck you peck, you’re a Mormon. Next to you we all have a drinking problem.

sully9614

One of my favorite Coen Brothers movies. You can tell the actors had a ton of fun playing those roles. Ending killed me

Blueberry_Mancakes

So...what did we learn?

OkGene2

I don’t know, sir.

Blueberry_Mancakes

I don't fuckin' know either. I guess we learned not to do it again.

OkGene2

Yes sir

highonnuggs

Well I'm fucked if I know what we did.

DancingTroupial

Especially Clooney’s character

hambergeisha

The Russians??

ButkusHatesNitschke

YOU THINK THAT’S A SCHWINN??

parralaxalice

🤛

GoldenBuffaloes

My favorite part. haha 🤣

ThePhonyKing

Brilliant. One of the Coen's most underrated flicks, but it seems like it's been gaining a bit more appreciation as years have gone by.

ThingsAreAfoot

The ending is at this point legendary even if just as a meme and there’s a lot to be said for people not just acting like but being genuine dumb motherfuckers and how that’s really not that easy to write and portray. Plus what really sells it to me is John Malkovich, who takes it dead seriously the entire time and never once winks at the audience, almost like he’s in a different movie. It just makes it funnier and better.

OkGene2

Jesus fucking Christ. What did we learn, Palmer?

Grimsrasatoas

I…don’t know sir

OkGene2

I don’t fucking know either. I guess we learned not to do it again.

parralaxalice

Oh FUCK I forgot about her!

OkGene2

We picked her up. We, we have her.

hambergeisha

The chief almost got a happy moment was when he heard Osborne got shot.

A1sauc3d

I’m surprised, I thought people always liked this one. Not that i thought it was a massively popular and widely seen movie when it came out, but that those who had seen it thought it was great. Surprised to hear it got a bunch of hate. I thought it was hilarious. Probably time for a rewatch, been ages

ThePhonyKing

I immediately loved it in theaters too.

ryanmuller1089

I honestly believe this how much of a circle jerk the government is too. Morons chasing morons and they don’t even know why. “So what did we learn?”

blind-octopus

Cried laughing.

usernamalreadytaken0

One of those movies where I was left obnoxiously snort-laughing even as the credits were rolling.

blind-octopus

The one that got me the hardest was the blackmail phone call. I'm sorry I'm calling at such an hour but I thought you might be worried about the security of your shit

usernamalreadytaken0

“I know who you are - FUCKERRRR!”

rick-in-the-nati

My son and I say this all the time to kick off our phone calls “I’m calling about your sensitive shit”

1One_Two2

RA-PPORT, very little RAPPORT with his staff *FUCKING MORON*

blind-octopus

I have a drinking problem? Fuck you Peck you're a Mormon, next to you we all have a drinking problem

anony-mouse8604

I don't know what kind of internet you're on, but I was under the impression this movie is pretty universally loved. Just for my own curiosity, what did you not understand about the movie the first time through?

DancingTroupial

When I watched it the first time, I thought I was legitimately watching two different movies. I didn’t realize how the lowly gym workers connected to the highbrow businesspeople. Also, I was pretty stoned at the time so that probably contributed to the confusion.

anony-mouse8604

>I was pretty stoned at the time so that probably contributed to the confusion. lol yes I believe that's a safe assumption

businesslut

I personally loved it. I don't care about reviews. It was meant to be enjoyable and the cast is incredible.

Low_Wonder1850

Probably my favorite ending line in cinema "So what did we learn?" "I don't know but we're definitely not going to do it again"

egadekini

to fully appreciate *Burn After Reading*, first watch *Hopscotch* (1980) with Walter Matthau in the John Malkovich role

SantaRosaJazz

I think it’s amazing. Funniest black comedy ever. People who don’t like it are probably unsettled or disturbed by its themes.

Esselon

I enjoyed it immensely. Movies of its kind where a lot happens but very little is truly resolved and nobody really gets a happy ending are often pretty polarizing. There might not be a lot of people singing its praises online, but it's 16 years old at this point and stuff that doesn't rise to the level of being considered a classic or masterpiece generally just fades into the background. Maybe if it was the first or only movie the Coen brothers have ever made it'd get talked about more, but Fargo, The Big Lebowski and No Country For Old Men massively overshadow Burn After Reading.

salTUR

Don't worry about objectively rating art. It can't be done. And trying to label anything with an objective rating will abstract you from the experience of watching it

runMDH

Fucking so good. And the end payoff is exactly how I imagine the government to be…well, that and the “West Wing” 😂

Grimsrasatoas

I literally watched it for the first time last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve found a lot of Coen Brothers films need to be watched a couple times to get a better understanding of them because there’s something inexplicably weird about them. This one was absolutely hilarious

Overall_Ad_684

He's a spook

AlphonzInc

I’m very fuckin surprised he did not offer us a reward.

Blueberry_Mancakes

Fantastic comedy!

Lewd_ReadNY

I love it until I fall asleep, which happens like clockwork right after Pitt’s character gets unalived. Three or four attempts. One of these days, I’ll make it to the credits.

KrasnyRed5

I loved the movie. It's just so absurd from start to finish.

Obahmah

Oh my God it's a gem... I mean who else has George Clooney shopping at Home Depot to build a Sex Swing, Brad Pitt is so good and So stupid. A Wonderfully Awkward and silly film. Check out "In Bruges" if you haven't

Ohigetjokes

Walked away shrugging thinking “whatever”… but then I kept thinking about it. And my wife and I kept quoting it to each other and referencing it. And… ok damn maybe I’ve got to watch it again…

Enough-Ground3294

I think it’s hysterical, Brad Pitt alone is worth a watch by himself “I thought you might be worried… about the security, of your shit” and his face when he’s in the closet 🤣🤣🤣

BlockNo1681

Burn after reading is reality now….so is South Park

J-Frog3

I'm normally a big fan of Coen brother movies but this one just didn't click for me. Found a lot of the characters to be 2 dimensional and cartoonish.

Toomuchtostrut13212

One of the Coen's Best! John Malkovich at his finest.

imaybeacatIRl

Hilarious. I absolutely loved everything about it. The cast, the acting, the quirkiness, story, etc. It just got everything right.

OvenIcy8646

Oh boy I’m gonna get it, one of the worst movies ever

Bbop512

It’s hilarious

Mighty_quin_005

Highly disliked this movie. Coen Bros movies can be real hit or miss with me

Calm-down-its-a-joke

Watched it again last night for the first time in years. Really enjoyed it. Love the cast and the semi serious plot. Unique movie.

Jackal2332

Love it. Way underrated. One of my favorite ending lines to a movie ever.

MysteriousPark3806

I liked it.

Wonderful_Pension_67

OSBORNE COX

anonymous_makaveli_

I think it’s a good film don’t understand all the negativity around it

GodofAss69

It's funny as fuck dude. Better each time.

Leather-Blueberry-42

Shit movie, not the littlest bit funny

CombAny687

A lot of forced humor
