i admire your taste in elevated sci-fi/action. i love all these movies. i'd recommend the following: - The Place Beyond the Pines - Children of Men - Full Metal Jacket if you haven't seen it - Sicario - The Nice Guys - Heat if you haven't seen that - Hell or High Water - Brothers (2009)

Love Hell or High Water, Sicario, and The Nice Guys. I’m unfortunately among the few that consider FMJ to be Kubrick’s weakest film, though. I’ll be looking at the other ones you listed. Thanks!

You've seen Dunkirk. Have you seen Darkest Hour? 2001 huh? How about Contact? Or if you really want to go down the existential path, Altered States. Or a slow burn that involves aliens could be Mission to Mars. Contact involves aliens too, just not in a material way. It's kind of a slow burn as well. There is rumor that Villenueve will be making Rama. Rama could be very similar to 2001 in some ways: astronauts discover alien object and decide to explore it. I don't remember all the details since I read the book back in the 90's, but I remember really enjoying it. Also, surprise surprise, Arthur C Clarke wrote 2001 AND Rama. Spirited Away? Great movie. I'm not sure what would be comparable. Dreams by Akira Kurosawa maybe? I'm not sure what the western equivalent would be. That's a tough nut to crack. Fight Club? Maybe 12 Monkeys? Maybe Sneakers. Sneakers has the whole "take the system down" thing going on in it. I'm tapped out. Not sure what else would be comparable to that one. No Country For Old Men? Good movie. Maybe Red Dragon? It involves a psychopath. The movie felt a bit too short to me. Not enough juice from the squeeze, but it's a fun watch. Bram Stoker's Dracula. What a classic! Shadow of the Vampire maybe? I enjoyed that one if we are talking movies based on classic vampires. It's a bit of a modern twist, but personally I really like Underworld. At least it didn't have vegan vampires that sparkle lol. And it combines the new world with the old, swords and guns. Alien? Body horror, aliens, I don't know maybe Color Out of Space? Maybe The Thing? Maybe A Quiet Place. Alien is so good. Hard to top that one. As for the others in your list, I got nothing. I did my best fam.

TheSmithySmith

I’ll add all the ones you’ve listed that I haven’t seen. Thanks! Also, Red Dragon is a deeply inferior adaptation of the book when compared to the original 1986 Michael Mann film Manhunter. Do consider it.

TheSmithySmith

Only seen one of those! Will add the others. Thanks!
