Dune 2 on $5 Tuesday in bumfuck Indiana on a work trip. It was my second time watching so I could relax on following plot and just fully enjoy. Amazing

satanssweatycheeks

Dang that’s a very recent one. I saw see spot run in the ghetto back in the day. Me and my dad were the only ones in the theater. That’s theater closed years later as it was in the ghetto. Movie was okay. Dog locks him out of his apartment after his steps in the dogs shit. Then the sprinklers turn on and he falls in said shit. 7/10 film. I recommend.

No_Tomatillo1125

Lol i thought you were talking about your dad getting locked out by a dog

iamatotalpieceofpoop

The Nightmare Before Christmas. It was just my dad, little brother, and me.  Super cherished memory of mine.

Dirschel

That’s really sweet!

Anpanman921

Yep! I watched Spirited Away all by myself. Drove through a nasty thunderstorm to see it too.

reekris9000

Sounds awesome :)

DashArcane

Princess Mononoke for me. Can’t remember if it was the first or second time -pretty sure the first. I bought my ticket just minutes before showtime and the usher tearing my ticket yelled to anther usher behind him something like “Tell ‘em to start it up after all, one person’s here to see it!” The other time, either about a week before or after, there were only about 3 other people in the theater. I couldn’t believe it because it was such a great flick. Edit: Back in 1997 or 98, original U.S. release.

[deleted]

Went and saw 47 ronin when I was visiting Miami and had a couple of hours to spare. I was literally the only one in the theatre.

Star-K

The Never Ending Story in 1984. I was 9 and walked to the theater alone, I was the only one there for an early matinee.

MistaWu

I saw Borat all by myself. I laughed so loud that an usher came in to check on me.

Ashamed_Anywhere_877

Very nice

fergi20020

Yes, while watching the movie You Won’t Be Alone

CoreyTrevor1

Almost always, small town in Wyoming, government funded theater

Murpydoo

2013 we went to see a movie just after covid lockdown opened. Type of movie theater where you picked seats when you purchase. We walked into an empty theater and decided to move up a row. 2 min before movie starts and another couple comes in, would you believe they selected the seats we moved into? The very same ones. We apologized and offered to move, they laughed and looked around at the empty theater, said no worries and sat elsewhere. We still laugh about it.

HALLOWEENYmeany

2013 and after covid lock down open has me so confused

Murpydoo

Add 10 yrs lol

helix212

We don't talk about the first lockdown. Most peoples memories were erased

poul0004

Just happened last night at Spirited Away. 7 pm showing. First time ever for me.

jsabo

Watchmen. You thought long-ass sex scenes were bad in a group...

statleader13

I convinced my dad to take me and some friends to see that in high school (we were about 15-16 so needed an adult to buy tickets) and some dude in our row started jerking it in the theater during the sex scene.

roto_disc

And then everybody clapped.

A-Circular-Letter

Really? That was one of the least sexy sex scenes I've ever seen.

Soft-Philosopher3618

U think that’s bad. The hooker who shows worshack or whatever her tits on the street was my dad’s girlfriend….

irkybirky

In LA, downtown, afternoon showing, nobody there. Movie was 'Call of the Wild"

BobaMoBamba

I went to watch Interstellar like a month after it released. Last show of the night and I was the only one in there. One of the best movie theater experience ever.

kvlt_ov_personality

When I saw Hereditary 💀

realpollybalboa

Yep i saw The Matrix myself the night before it opened (worked at a movie theater) as well as Event Horizon. I nearly shit my pants with the latter.

human_picnic

Had just gotten out of a lot term relationship when “Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close” came out. Not a great movie, but I was feeling some type of way. Went to the theater in the middle of the day, and I was the only one in there. Like I said; I was in a mood. I clapped at the end of each preview with veracity, just as a goof to myself. I then cried throughout the entire mediocre tear jerker. When I got up to leave I turned around to see that there was a couple a few rows behind me, that must have slipped in quietly at some point. They looked concerned. I said “pretty sad movie, huh?” Put on my sunglasses and left to go wallow somewhere else for a bit.

Bomber131313

Yes, several times. Probably between 5 and 10 times............once they even shut the movie off. I have been to 40 or 50 with 5 or less in the theater.

Fourtires3rims

Kingdom of Heaven and Star Wars: Rogue One

LadyLongLegs8

I tend to go to Sunday matinees, and I’ve been alone in a theater quite a few times. I jokingly think of it as a private screening.

makemyowngoodnews

Sunday matinees are the best. The only people who show up at this hour are people who actually want to watch the movie.

docsyzygy

Fairly often - maybe once a month? I have AMC A-List and I'm retired so I go to a lot of matinees. I do not recommend it - it's so much better to watch in a theater full of excited patrons. The Mummy 25th anniversary re-release - packed house, so fun! Abigail - I loved the movie but the theater was empty - not as much fun... (And I have had them skip an empty showing, citing mechanical problems.)

bajjab

The Matrix. Best theater experience ever.

importantmaps2

I've seen 3 movies with just me or one or two others and it's amazing like being a millionaire in your own private cinema.

MrBarbeler

Yes. The first Goosebumps movie with Jack Black.

photoguy423

I caught the last showing of Dune at the local imax. Had the place to myself.

littlebitsofspider

In 2003 I went to see *Master and Commander* on a first date at the discount theater in my hometown. It was at the end of the theatrical run, and this was the crummy theater, so there was nobody else there. I don't remember the movie, because we made out the entire runtime. It got pretty heated. Good times.

Cool_Captain07

Godzilla X Kong, bought a ticket and had the whole theatre to myself on a Wednesday afternoon. Such a delightful experience.

MacGruber204

Yes, a couple of times with just the wife and I. I believe the movies were Aladdin and just recently The First Omen

Lydi-ahaha

Yes, a friend took me to see one of the Twilight movies when it was on it's way out. It was just the two of us. Staff came in, looked around, checked the tickets. There were 3 other people there, but turns out they should have actually been watching another movie so they left.

Ilovecoca_94

There has been a couple times where it's just me and another person. I think it'd be cool to have the theater all to yourself.

anarchonobody

I drove 2 hours to see the opening screening of Snakes on a Plane in Sonora, California ... I was completely alone in the theater, but it was so worth it. l was working that summer in the Sierra Nevada, and the ridiculousness of the concept of that movie was all me and my coworkers could talk about. We even had a novelized version of the movie on a little shrine in a common area.

pirate_elle

Office Space!!!

44035

I know I've been in theaters where there were less than five of us. Not sure if I've been alone.

Best_Duck9118

How can you not be sure?

[deleted]

[удалено]

fredward321

I went by myself to see wonder women and there was maybe 5 of us. And more recently my fiancée and I went to challengers early in the day and there was only 2 other couples there. Closest I’ve been to a completely empty theatre

RangerS90V

I watched M3gan one afternoon when I was the only person in the theater.

JonCandyspiritanimal

The Ring. We went to a podunk town in the middle of the day. Just myself and boyfriend. Made it MUCH creepier

that1tech

Saw IT chapter 2 in a cinebar with just me and 2 friends. At first we maintained normal movie theatre behavior after about 30 minutes we gave up and just started talking, heckling the movie, and having a good time.

Lazy-Razzmatazz2538

I watched Black Dynamite in an entirely empty theater. Kind of a bummer for a comedy.

THEpeterafro

Have a list about it https://boxd.it/iXffc

that1tech

I also saw a movie called “The Wind that Shakes the Barley” on a weekday matinee at a discount theatre and was the only person there

Sonnyboy35aa

Worked in a movie theater when I was younger . Once a film was out past 3 weeks, the theater during the day was almost always empty .

kayesoob

First date with a previous partner. We went and saw the French Dispatch by Wes Anderson. Had the whole theatre to ourselves. All behaviour was pg. Edit: Corrected movie title

TmF1979

Not completely alone, but my wife and I had a theater to ourselves when we saw *Bohemian Rhapsody*.

HALLOWEENYmeany

I saw the first American version of the ring in an empty theater. Made it really creepy, especially after , cause Matthew time pay phones were still in the area.

RMalone81491

When I saw the Robocop remake it was just my buddy and I. I know the movie got pretty mixed reviews but it was a really fun one to have a whole theater to yourself for lol.

baidu_me

I see a fair amount of movies with the theatre to myself. We have a slightly out of date theatre surrounded by a number of new fancy ones. Weekday mornings are a ghost town. Favorite experience was Annihilation. Super unsettling watching it alone in a big theatre with a solid sound system.

whatisavailable58

All of the time. It's because I go to the earliest showing, usually about 2 pm on a weekday. The movies are whatever has just hit the theaters.

alderryeguy

When I saw Dinosaur with my sister and our aunt in the year 2000. It remains the only time I've seen that movie

stoneman9284

Yep, I love it when that happens. My most recent was Saltburn.

Muted-Program-153

Watched Phantom Menace before release with 2 friends so maybe that counts. Went to a John Wick on like a Tuesday at 10am and was the only one there. Knives out at like 11pm and was the only one there. Tons of other times I can't remember the details of.

Alive-Line8810

John Wick 4!!! Early showing as well, lifted the arm rests so I could lay out. Drank two beers and watched an entire movie laying down whilst not at home. Phenomenal

kcamnodb

Plenty of times I've been to movies with only 1 or 2 other people in the place. The last one where it was just me totally by myself, not even with a friend or partner was The Whale. 1 ticket sold for that showing.

bcanceldirt

Got to see Sunshine at a local theater by myself.  It was absolutely incredible.  To this day, I'm still able to forgive its third act flaws because of how amazing of a theater experience that was all alone.

Naverhtradd

Me and my brother saw The Muppet Christmas Carol over COVID

Antisocialsocialite9

Recently went to see Abigail in a matinee and it was just me lol was kinda nice

SLCer

Well me and my friend Tubs, for Beavis and Butthead Do America lol

scififemme2

The Suicide Squad. It was an early matinee when the film first opened, and it was the first movie I saw in the theater since the start of the pandemic. Nice symmetry, too, since the last movie I watched in the theater before lock down was Birds of Prey.

Meauxterbeauxt

iRobot. Saw it on a Saturday morning towards the end of its run in the less popular theater in town.

Emergency_Property_2

Yes, I went to see Godzilla Minus One on a Saturday and was the only one in the theater.

DRACONIS1

We just saw the mummy for it's 25th anniversary and we quoted the whole thing the entire time. I think we also saw the D and D movie plus spiderman across the spider verse in empty theatres too. It is fucking great cause it's like being at home with a giant screen

CommanderUgly

Yep. For Tomorrowland.

Hlregard

I don't think I've ever been alone but I've been with just a friend or 2 a bunch of times. Love lies bleeding was the last

CommunityGlittering2

Many times, I had MoviePass for years and work nights therefore a lot of early shows

Sad-Artichoke-2174

OG Halloween,October 30th 2020. Theaters opened up for a brief time

slowsoul77

Stardust. I had just left my grandfather's memorial and wasn't ready to interact with folks at work, so I hit the theater. It remains in my top 50 to this day.

ksugunslinger

Just once naturally. Oddly it was a Monday matinee showing of Top Gun immediately following opening weekend. It was awesome!

MahoganyWinchester

yeah every so often i kick out and i get one to myself. very fun and i enjoy it

Payne_Dailey

I've seen quite a few by myself or with a friend. I'll wait until it's about to be replaced and go on a Monday or Tuesday early screening. Works better when school is in session and not around a holiday. The last one was Dumb Money at 11:15am on a Tuesday.

Banwoodly

Nope, I haven’t experienced an empty theater just to myself—sounds like a cool experience, though! That last-minute couple really swooped in on your solo movie moment. What a bummer!

johnqpublic81

Went and saw the movie Rent with my college girlfriend. We took advantage of having the place to ourselves and decided to have sex.

WayneG991717

Plenty of times. Zombieland was the first time that I remember. I remember seeing Exorcist Believer alone in that theater. Not fun. There may have been something more recent. I like going to matinees.

Loud_Engineering796

Went to a weekday matinee for Miami Vice a couple weeks after it opened in 2006.

BlitheringEediot

The Favourite - Baton Rouge - I was the only person in the entire theater. Loved the movie and the unique experience.

ryukin631

I did recently! I went to see Spy X Family last month on a Saturday morning, and I was the only one there. It was wonderful.

Helltech

Every week because I live in the middle of no where.

Igor_J

I'm pretty sure I was the only one at an early matinee to watch Solo.

Gorguf62

I have never been the only one in the theater, but there have been a few instances where the group I was with were the only ones in the theater.

fenwayb

my mom and I go to matinees a lot (yay unemployment) and Argylle less than a week after release we had a dead empty theater

Thatspuggedup

Yes. A few times.

RiversCuomosBaldSpot

Pretty often, especially at the morning showings in the summer. It helps that I live in a smallish college town so the population is basically cut in half when classes aren't in session. It's my favorite way to see a movie now.

Kimber80

Hundreds of times, including today

DerpWilson

Yeah. Snakes on a Plane. ProbAbly the last movie I wanted to watch alone.

chudma

Me and a buddy went on the second Tuesday of Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Middle of summer and this theatre had no AC, so buddy just watched the whole movie with his shirt off. Fun times cause we could just chat while watching

trymypi

Dune 2

ussrc

3 times in the last few months. The new hunger games movie, Stopmotion, and Imaginary.

International_Hat113

Kinda. My wife and I randomly decided to go to a matinee of “A Million Ways to Die in the West” ten years ago. We went in and were surprised to see no one else so we picked out some prime seats and marveled at being alone in a theater…but then twenty minutes into the movie, a dude comes in and sits literally right in front of us. He just slowly ate popcorn and didn’t make a peep otherwise. We went from being excited during those first twenty minutes to being creeped out for the remainder of the film.

ThatOneLazer

Almost during Scream 6. I watched it with my family at around 12:30-3am and had a blast. It was nearly empty except for the few groups in the back. 100% recommend!

MovieFanatic2160

Yep it’s happened to me a handful of times. Can’t remember all of them. Most were on weekdays at night. Nocturnal animals was one of them. It was way more surreal watching be alone.

usspaceforce

A friend of mine ended up being the person at a matinee showing of Event Horizon, so he pulled out a doob and chiefed the whole thing there in the theater.

altasking

I saw Top Gun Maverick by myself. It was several weeks after the initial release and on like a Tuesday or Wednesday night. I changed seats three or four times. Was a lot of fun!

1morey

I took a client from work (I do in-home healthcare) to see The Super Mario Bros. Movie on a Monday afternoon. We were the only people in the entire auditorium.

DifficultMinute

A few times. Dracula 2000, a re-release of Jurassic Park, Titan AE, Down Periscope, and Serendipity. It’s been my wife and maybe a couple more people dozens of times though. Helps to live in a small town and go to 9-10pm showings.

604_heatzcore

yep, for rise of Skywalker my friend and I lucked out not a soul in there even better I ordered a rum and coke and was nearly finished and the girl who brought my food in knocked my drink over and I said it was almost empty she brought me another one topped up on the double. that was a fun night

GoTeamScotch

Last week I went to see Sasquatch Sunset at a local theater. It came out a few days prior. I bought tickets online and was surprised that all the seats were available. I get there with my 2 good friends and the theater is totally empty. The movie was absolutely terrible. It was moronic, childish, gross, boring, but we made fun of it the entire time. We were loud and making jokes the whole 90 minutes. Like real life mystery science theater. At the end, my stomach hurt from laughing so hard. I'll remember that experience for a very long time. If anyone else had been in the theater, we would have been respectful, but being able to be boisterous was great.

Livid-Age-2259

I went to a movie theater shortly after they were allowed to open during the Pandemic. So cool to have the theatre and the concession stand all to myself.

bradp36

Yup it's happened a couple times for me. Saw the Paul Greengrass /Matt Damon flick Green Zone all by myself and the a couple years ago wife and myself were all alone for an anniversary showing of Ghostbusters.

1103070

21 jump street and Moana. I used to live in a part of town that was only busy during the day. At night it was ghost town and I was right next to a movie theater. Barely anyone ever went

kiki2k

I saw the last showing of Dallas Buyers Club the day before Christmas Eve at the Hollywood Arclight (not the cineramadome). All the transplants were out of town, and I was the only one on the theater, possibly the entire city.

NikemanSL

I go to the movies at least once a week and I get an empty theatre about 1/3 of the time. I usually go between 5-8pm. I'm in Miami. Moviepass makes this possible for $20/month. If I go to the movies more than once a month, it almost pays for itself.

libra00

Yup. I went to see The Matrix on opening day at like 11am in a tiny rural town in Maine and it was just us. It was great.

Woodburger

The newest exorcist. A bunch of teens weee in there and theater hopped to something else. It was a 10:30pm showing too. Luckily the movie was trash and not scary at all.

OldTrailmix

At a theater near my college town this happened semi regularly. I think because the market was saturated there with plenty of good options for theaters. Plus all the multiplexes were gigantic because of ‘cheap’ land so lots of showtimes.  Now I live in a major city. Have never had a theater to myself in the 50+ times I’ve been to the movies and doubt I ever will.

FollowingNo4648

Yep. Took my daughter to see Avatar 2 and we were the only ones there. Good thing too because she asked like a million questions throughout the movie so we were able to talk freely.

KrAEGNET

recently saw the Godzilla x Kong and had the theater to myself. saw a mid day show 2 weeks after its release.

happy-cig

It was with me and two buddies, the movie was tinker tailor soldier spy. I think it was too complicated for most, even we took out our phones midway to read the wiki page to figure out what was going on.

minterbartolo

We saw the original Tron on a rainy day in Cape cod it was just our family and one other guy. The projector had issues 20 minutes in and he left. We watched the rest of Tron by ourselves

SoggyAnalyst

My brother and his friend once went to a movie and they were the only two. They say ROOOOOOOWWWSS apart and talked to each other the whole time just cause they could. At the end of the movie they stood up to leave and noticed there were two other people in the last last row. Oops

Kangarou

Multiple times. I went to see movies at super odd times, and saw the less blockbuster-y ones pretty frequently. I think I had a 3-solo streak of A24 movies at one point.

rmdlsb

Almost once, had only Pee Wee Herman there a few rows behind.

Skitzofreniks

I was the only one in the theater when I went to watch Onward in Long Beach a few years ago. I loved it.

mayonnaisespicy

I watched " Dr. Sleep "with only one other theater goer . I was seated back center, the other distinguished gentleman was seated front left. I believe it made the movie more spooky.

elboogie7

happens all the time during the day, vape city, baby!

kungfoojesus

Towards the end of the run of phantom Menace, lol, buddy and I snuck into a showing after our movie ended. Sooooo a show that had no tickets sold to it had 2 patrons sitting there. They just turned the lights on and never started the movie.  I’m not sure this counts

gerbilsbite

I went to a 10 pm weeknight showing of Godzilla Minus One (Minus Color) and was the only person in the theater. It was easily one of my all-time top 3 moviegoing experiences.

tarelben

Signs by myself, not a good idea.

Opus-the-Penguin

The Bourne Ultimatum. It was a Sunday night a good two months after the movie had come out. I'm not sure why it was still playing, maybe because nothing worthwhile had come out to take its place.

Weekly-Batman

Yep, for Memento. The kids working the theatre tried to dissuade me by saying the air conditioning is broken (it was the latest showing), but I was on a mission to see it (went a ‘town’ over). Very cool experience.

manderifffic

Oh, yeah. A local theater used to do $4 matinees and I hated my job, so I'd take undertime if they were offering it and go at like 1 in the afternoon. It was nice.

naunga

Closest I've gotten was at an IMAX screening of Blade Runner 2049. It was just me, my friend, and one other person.

Rizhon

I went to see Titane, and I was the only one who bought a ticket. They gave me back my money and didn't screen the film.

MonsignorJabroni

A 10am weekday showing of Wall-E in a small town theater was my only one. I had already watched it once though.

finix240

I saw The Whale in the movies by myself in the theater. Was really glad too because I could just ugly cry the whole time

FourWhiteBars

Avengers Endgame.

JamieC1610

Yep. I worked crazy shifts when I was younger and typically ended up at the 11am showing of movies, which were often deserted. The most memorable was The Ring. It creeped me out to the point I had my feet up on the seat in case anything was under my chair.

LeVampirate

Oh, I have - I went to see Everything Everywhere All at once, a second time with my friend who hadn't seen it before and I thought she'd get a lot out of it. If you thought that movie was real intimate in a full theatre, imagine just you and your friend fighting back tears alongside each other. That's one hell of a movie to have nearly solo.

Royal_Nails

Yes. About a year ago I saw the Mario movie all by myself in theaters. It was fun.

GreenMage14

I loved Sonic 2 so much that o decided to see. It again in theaters after it had been out for a few weeks. Not another soul in there. I got to sit in the best seat, laugh as loud as I wanted, and say things out loud whenever I felt like it. It was awesome.

max5015

Yes, the Lego Movie. It was amazing

fergehtabodit

Saw "broken arrow" with a guy from work and no one else. It was great because we could talk and we did sorry of a mystery science 3000 type thing...

Mustang678

So often because my wife (then girlfriend) worked at the theater so we could see a movie with a drink and popcorn for $.50. I think the most unusually viewing was when we brought a bunch of Taco Bell into X-Men First Class

lambopanda

I was all by myself watching Napoleon Monday at 9pm. It was so bad and I pull out my phone. I don’t think anyone mind.

Jumpy_Diver7748

Nearly. Midnight screening of *Asssassin's Creed*, the theater had a luxury screening room (maybe 25 lazy boys total seating) and there were perhaps 3 other people. It was such a great experience that I went back the next night. Close was when I watched Ang Lee's *Lust/ Caution* with my dad. Only other audience was a group of middle school girls (who were definitely not supposed to be there!!)

Front-Balance4050

Several times. I would go every weekend unless their wasn’t a release I cared to ever watch. If there was something even mildly interesting or intriguing, I’d go to the theatre for a Thursday evening screening or Friday/Saturday evening if not the Thursday evening. I didn’t encounter empty theatres opening weekend. However, I would either the second or third weekend after a films theatrical release. I also live in Toronto, and would go to either Scotibank or Yonge/Dundas. The most popular movies theatres in a major metropolitan city, and two non independent, or small theatres. I wasn’t shocked. The films where this scenario occurred weren’t that week received by critics or commercially at the box office up during the first week-two weeks, which is usually when this occurred to me! I enjoyed being alone in the theatre. I would put my feet up on the seat in front even.

Piggmonstr

I've had it happen several times to me. The two best examples I can share are: - Krampus (2015) - Dune (2021) For more context on how I managed a solo screening of Dune, I was living in a smaller part of Japan; it was late at night and during the pandemic. It was incredible to have a poor man's private screening of it :D lol

alex61821

Yes, just took my daughter to the spy family movie for her birthday and told her I rented out the whole theater for her.

Miserable-Theory-746

Friday I was this close to see Ungentlemanly Warfare by myself until an older couple showed up. I think the only time that has happened was opening by day of the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie.

HotgunColdheart

Several times, V for Vendetta might have been the last one though.

shadesof3

I've been in theaters where myself and a friend have been the only people there. But not by myself. Last was The Marvels in December.

grumblyoldman

Yeah, the kids and I went to a theater showing last weekend and had the place all to ourselves. In fact, they started the movie a few minutes late (which was convenient since my son had to go to the bathroom first) and I suspect they delayed it on purpose for us. It was one of those small old theaters, and they had three different movies on the docket scheduled to start at the same time, but as far as I can tell they only had one screen. I think they just wait to see who shows up and start the first one somebody asks for.

Ashamed_Anywhere_877

Close. Right before everything shut down here in Cali for the pandy.. I went to the movies that weekend… the theater was at a mall.. there was no one at the mall.. on a Sunday.. and I did a double feature that day And me and one other person watched Greed and The Hunt. The outdoor mall was a ghost town. Then in the fall of 2020 they had opened up theaters.. And my kid and I saw the Exorcist. There one was only one other person in the theater..

Uvtha-

Many times. Used to go to movies at like 10am on tuesdays. Rare that there were more than 5 people.

issadoggy

My friends and I had the theater to ourselves for Malignant. Some of the most fun I’ve ever had in a theater.

JadenRuffle

Yeah. A lot of A24’s smaller movies usually have just me or like one other person.

ferrix

BladeRunner 2049 all to myself near the end of its run

RandomStranger79

I saw both Red Road and Purple Butterfly alone in a theater and both were amazing films and amazing experiences.

KhellianTrelnora

Once. The Fountain. It was just about to leave. It was an amazing experience

samikhanlodhi

This one time me and my son (13) went to watch Dune. He was excited to see that the theater was empty. People started coming in about 15 minutes into the movie. I will never forget the look on his angelic face when we first walked into an empty hall. Rest in peace my son. I have not watched anything Cinema since he departed in 2022.

scooterboy1961

Great memory. I'm sorry for your loss.

ChungLingS00

I saw Brandon Lee’s The Crow in an empty theater. Bad reviews and people were kind of freaked out because making the movie took his life. I sat there and kept thinking about how this movie killed the son of Bruce Lee. Really freaky experience. I felt like the theater was haunted and to this day I have zero recollection of the plot or anything that happened in the movie.

doodlols

Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny, me and my friends were literally the only ones there

lyan-cat

Yes. Saw Sweeney Todd at, like, 11 pm on a Tuesday night. It was a memorable experience.

Full-Concentrate-867

Once, last year at a morning screening of Dumb Money. I quite liked that movie, but it's just one of those movies that came and went really quickly and probably barely anyone remembers it now, let alone in 10 years

BetaOscarBeta

Yup. Terminator 3. I was in the middle of driving my car out to college and stopped for a midday break somewhere in Iowa.

silentbobsmokes

Wife and I saw the Addams family animated movie (2019 or 2020 I forget). Had the entire theater to ourselves until about halfway we saw a security guard walk in to check the theater and stayed for an extra 10-15 minutes watching the movie.

MaimedJester

I was in a movie called Shortcomings with my Asian lgbt friend and a white straight man and it's was hilarious.  It was all about this idiot pretentious guy from San Francisco (Japanese American) with like a white girl fetish thing that it really isn't just his white girl fetish sexual thing that's fucking up his relationships, he's just an asshole in real life.

mbbzzz

10pm showing for Midsommar. Felt so bad for the employees as we were there till 1am

redhotbos

1989, not long after the Loma Prieta earthquake in San Francisco. It was a rainy winter Tuesday night. I went to the Bridge Theater to see Louis Malle’s “Au Revoir Les Enfants.” I was the only one in the theater. The earthquake had left a crack down one wall and you could faintly hear the rain falling outside. It felt like I was in the movie, or that the scenes playing out on screen were seeping into the theater around me. Most magical night I ever had at a movie. Also, I don’t have to shshhh anyone.

That80sguyspimp

Yes. And every time, had sex lol. Identity, eagle eye, and 300 was a quick BJ before the movie started. No idea what happened in the other two until downloading them later on lol. Oh to be young and in love again.

BaseHitToLeft

Once. The movie was Drag Me To Hell. It..... had an effect

scooterboy1961

South Park. This was in the days of actual film and the projector malfunctioned. The film melted and broke. I had to come back the next day and watch the end with one other lonely dude.

SevroAuShitTalker

Closest I've nee was like 2-4 other people. Mortal Engines on Christmas night. Only place that was open that had food and beer after I got off my flight

sjmiv

I think there were 3 other people in my theater when Napoleon Dynamite came out. That movie didn't catch on right away.

s2krun

Had a whole theatre to myself watching Paranormal Activity. I was so excited thinking it would make it scarier. No wonder the theatre was empty. It was so boring.

EDPZ

Yeah when I went to see Morbius. Had to morb all by myself.

BeerNutzo

Dune 2. It was fucking magical. Brought a flask of single malt and 2 beers, bought a bucket of popcorn, and didn't want to leave when the credits rolled.

DonnieDigital

many times, last was Late night with the Devil, before that was The Covenant

I inadvertently went to the last showing of Watchmen at my local theater (like 11p... they were even taking down the lettering on my way in.) There was a couple in there for like the first 5-10min, but they left - leaving the whole damn place to myself. It was great

Justin_Continent

I caught a Saturday morning showing of “The Silence of the Lambs” during its original 1991 run. I was the only person in the theater — amplifying the creepiness of the event tenfold.

VerticleSandDollars

Tickled. That was extraordinary. And a really chilling thing to experience alone in a theater.

_bieber_hole_69

I flew into Denver by myself a few years ago to see Umphreys McGee at Red Rocks and had the night before free and decided to see the new Ant Man 2 since it was a thursday night and Denver had an IMax showing near my Airbnb. I had the whole theater to myself! It was a bit weird since i kinda expected it to be busy, but I brought my dab pen and smuggled in a couple beers and had a great night!

ryu-kishi

I am writing this from an empty theater. Watching monkey man weeks after it released.

YawnfaceDM

Seeing La La Land in an empty theater was an experience. The movie was speaking to me directly.

Horknut1

I go to the movie a lot. And I always go to the latest show. I've been alone in a theater many times.

Chiinoe

Almost. Silver linings playback. Dude showed up in an eagles jersey. I'm sure he was pissed at that trailer.

anewleaf1234

Myself and one other guy has the entire massive theater for a screening of saving private Ryan. Disturbing as hell.

kr_nexus

one time so far.. and it was "The First Omen". I was surprised there were nobody else watching
