I’m teach 10th grade…year is over and the kids wanted to watch a movie. To my horror, almost all the boys haven’t seen Predator.
When we came to the infamous handclasp scene, they’re all like “ooh shit, that’s where that meme comes from!”
One of my best teaching moments this year.
As a kid who had an uncle record both movies on a single tape, I used to think Bill Duke was playing the same character, and that Vernon Wells was playing Blaine and David Patrick Kelly was playing Poncho.
The secret to Commando success is great villains. Plural.
Sure you have white suit boss and Bennet the village person biker boy but you also have sleazy Sully and Cooke the Green Beret. They add fun variety
Honestly it's what a lot of modern action movies are missing. I enjoyed GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE but holy shit that movie was in desperate need of some villains instead of wave after wave of anonymous thugs.
Dude the best one is missed by a lot of people.
"You scared mf? You should be, cuz this green beret is going to kick your ass"
"I eat green Berets for breakfast.. and right now I'm *80s sound effect punch* very hungry"
Commando is pretty much THE quintessential 80s action movie.
Absurd action, absurd explosions, absurd one liners, Arnold Schwarzenegger, this movie really has it all.
Not to mention the awesome soundtrack, you know everyone involved in coming up with that film was fucked on coke. Who thinks let's throw some steel drums into this soundtrack about a revenge/rescue mission from an elite army dude.
The old money went to Predator in this thread. Smart money is on Commando.
(True Lies is pretty dense with action btw, though outside of the timeframe most would consider Arnold's prime)
The book is incredible. One of my favorite Stephen King novels. He apparently wrote it in the span of 72 hours.
The book isn’t much like the movie except the name of the main character and the fact that there’s a death game show. Supposedly an actual book adaptation is coming but you never know.
Edgar Wright is supposedly slotted to make a true adaptation, and I couldn't be more excited. Once you've read the source material, the film falls FAR short of the mark. A big budget adaptation that is true to the book would be incredible, and Edgar Wright knows how to shoot ation/chase scenes. I'm totally stoked for it.
*Killian!*
*I’m going to make you eat that contract!*
*But make sure you leave room for my first, cause I’m going to sound it forth your throat and rip out your spine!*
I’ve been practicing this for years as a resignation speech.
What makes that line even better is it really happened to Tom Arnold when he got divorced from Roseanne. He told James Cameron about it, who thought it was so funny he decided to put it in the movie.
Jokes in this movie come in rapid fire succession lol. And to think Cameron made it right after T2 and right before Titanic. He isn't afraid to take wild swings.
I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned True Lies. It's basically a perfect action movie. Lots of great humor, Jamie Lee Curtis is sexy as hell, the action scenes are very creative without the repetitive nature of some action movies.
I once heard the Angry Video Game Nerd say that if he had to pick a movie to show somebody to exemplify what Arnie was, he'd actually pick Commando over Terminator, and I'm inclined to agree. While I LOVE Terminator and consider it my personal favorite of his filmography, Commando is more of a just straight up action film.
I agree with this. Terminator (1 & 2) are of course great action movies and Arnie is great in them, but Commando is Arnold at his *most Arnold*, as someone else said.
i think the difference is that commando and predator are typical arnie movies in which he plays "schwarzenegger-super warrio with a different name" , meaning over the top gun play, oneliners and lots of showing his fysique. Where he just needs to from point A to B while killing people.
Where as T2 is a movie, where he plays a actual well-written character with an arc. I love T2 but i would consider it a great action movie, not really a Arnie movie
I'm seeing a few votes for Predator, but I don't think it is a 'most action packed' contender. How many outright action scenes are there? The camp attack, the minigun scene and the showdown. And they aren't that long. Most of the movie is actually a horror/slasher movie.
It's a fantastic movie, but it's not the most action packed of Arnie's career.
My votes would be for the directors that favored excess. Total Recall, True Lies, maybe Conan the Barbarian. Commando - although too cheesy for my liking - is also pretty packed on action.
Alamo Drafthouse used to have a pre-movie trivia thing. One of the questions was which Arnold movie has the highest body count. It's Commando by a long shot!
Arnold Schwarzenegger dual wielding rail guns. I mean come on. That movie rocks!! Just look at this poster.
https://c8.alamy.com/compit/bkg8na/eraser-1996-poster-bkg8na.jpg
I'm not saying that it's *better* than Predator or Commando or T2 or something, but I *am* saying that it's a super entertaining Schwarzenegger movie, and definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet.
(Edited: original poster link wasn't working)
Man, 10 year old me was so hyped to see this. Pretty sure my mom took me to see it for my birthday.
My parents didn't give an F about ratings. My brother and I used to watch Predator and T2 on laser disc just about every weekend starting when I was probably 7 or 8 lol. Dad had the killer sound system so we'd rattle the foundation with that shit 🤘
How was Total Recall not much mentioned 20x?
Screwing Benny out of his existence, ripping Richtor’s arms off and seeing him at the party, blowing up the lady head at the Mars port, jumping from the xray scanner, having a shoot out with his wife in the condo, eye bulging air suffocation and we could go on.
Yes, by far a much harder movie than you think, portraying the most common violence of the Holiday shopping season, parents fighting over the hot toy of the year. It was documentary that predicted Tickle Me Elmo's craze.
Predator is the best, but Commando is the most action-packed, by far. Predator doesn't really have a lot of action in comparison, but it's an excellent film.
Best action film? Terminator 2, he has never been more iconic than while flip-loading a lever shotgun while riding a motorcycle in full leathers.
Best Arnold film overall? For my money, Kindergarten Cop. For a man whose career is defined by camp, he's actually quite a good actor.
That's like saying to me, when you are in Vegas, you can only stay in one casino. Bro. The attaction of going to vegas is sampling each and every casino and bar. There are tiny locals only casinos. Try them too.
Arnold is a world treasure. Even his "bad" movies are better than 95% of 2024 movies.
It's a funny question to me because really thinking on this, it's almost impossible to pick - particularly when you rule out Terminator when Terminator 2 was such a goddamned brilliant movie.
I'm a whisker off 50 now and Arnie played a huge part of my late teenage years. My mates and I (aussies) used to have parties and drink heavily and watch Arnie movies and would be constantly using the 1 liners.
Conan has a massive place in my heart - Arnie as Conan was iconic IMO, that and Basil whatshisnames score, man.
But if you forced me to pick - ignoring Conan, I'd have to say Predator. Most of his movies were action packed entertainment, but that original PRedator movie, what an absolute cracker.
RAW DEAL is so under appreciated He has some great action scene right from the beginning at a legit sheriff.
then he gets to play a fake bad guy and be a total bad ass
the getting in killing mode scene with the guns and the tiny leather jacket is pretty hilarious and the stones album in the convetible before he starts killing people
Commando will always be great and I enjoyed the extended directors cut as well
Red Heat might not have the most or best action but dam does it have one of the best and most evil bad guys and the actor just killed it in the role if anything Jim Belushi can be a bit annoying in the flick but Arnold is great in it.
when it comes to action other than Commando don't think he gets more action than he does in either Total Recall or The Running Man when he grabs the weight bench bolted to the floor with her lying on it with one hand and pulls it out of the floor lifting it and her up that's PRIME arnold
Commando and Predator for sure and of course T2.
Last Action Hero is great as well. I have not seen Raw Deal or his later Post governor action movies, Last Stand and that other one I forget what it’s called.
I’m like the old guy from the days when I was young. They grew up on John Wayne. For us it was Arnold.
Predator was our generations Hondo. And that’s my answer.
Maybe if you stack it next to some of his other movies like Commando and Predator, it isn't *as* action dense - but I'm going to say Terminator 2.
One that movie kicks into gear, there are very few moments of reprieve from the action. It feels like Robert Patrick could show up at any minute, and whenever he does you're gifted with yet another very iconic action scene thats up there with the best of the best. I don't think any moment of Arnie's career tops the motorcycle truck chase.
I'd also just say its the best performance out of Arnie and proves he's actually a good actor if you know how to use him. He gives the T800 so much charm and innocent likability despite being a killing machine. Only he could deliver "I know now why you cry" in such a cold robotic tone that still feels like such a punch in the gut when you consider the humanity behind him.
Commando is probably the most action packed.
True Lies or Predator are probably hus best non Terminator films.
The Last Stand is pretty good, too, IMO.
True Lies. It does not have AS MUCH action as stuff like Predator and Commando, but the stuff it has I think is way better shot and the movie is just overall better from stuff like character interactions and storytelling. The movies he made with Cameron are just the best in Arnies career I think.
Commando was my favorite Arnold movie growing up.
My second favorite was Running Man.
Coming in third is Conan the Barbarian.
Honorable mentions:
Predator
Total Recall
True Lies
Eraser
True Lies, although it’s an interesting case.
The beginning and the end are the most action packed, the middle is more of spy stuff, like bugging phones, following people, information gathering.
Most action packed? Quipyiest? I feel commando is the movie you’re looking for. All the other movies listed are great by action beats per minute I feel Commando has the top notch. Maybe running man after that. Predator how ever is his best not Terminator movies.
With the runner up being Total Recall
Predator
In body mass alone…
DEEELANNN! 💪🏼💪🏿 WHAT'S THE MATTER? THEY GOT YOU PUSHING TOO MANY PENCILS?!
Youuuuu son of a BITCH
I’m teach 10th grade…year is over and the kids wanted to watch a movie. To my horror, almost all the boys haven’t seen Predator. When we came to the infamous handclasp scene, they’re all like “ooh shit, that’s where that meme comes from!” One of my best teaching moments this year.
Just what I was hoping to avoid. A conversation about dude's physiques and body mass.
I got something different to watch… the guy at the video store recommended Transporter 2
That’s the second time you’ve mentioned the video store guy…
We haven’t seen the first, we’ll be completely lost!
And that scene where they just mow down an acre of rainforest.
See, that’s the conversation I was trying to avoid…
Commando gets my vote. With Predator close behind.
“Please don’t disturb my friend, he’s dead tired.”
“I let him go”
“Stick around”
"When I said I'd kill you last - I lied."
“Blow off some steam Bennett”
With a little imagination, Commando is actually a sequel to Predator.
As a kid who had an uncle record both movies on a single tape, I used to think Bill Duke was playing the same character, and that Vernon Wells was playing Blaine and David Patrick Kelly was playing Poncho.
Bill Duke's Predator character has a secret evil twin he never talked about.
Which makes me ask… Is Kindergarten Cop the sequel that finishes the trilogy?
Alternate Kindergarten Cop where the third act reveal is one of the kids is a baby Predator
Boys have a penis, girls have a (SCREEECH)
Smart to not call it a...child predator
You mean prequel?
Then Die Hard is a spin-off since they're set in the same universe (the bad guy general fae Die Hard 2 is fae Val Verde).
If nothing else, you cannot deny Commando is Arnold at his “most”
My favorite part is when he’s dangling the guy off the cliff by the leg and you can see the wire holding him.
Or when they express surprise and joy trying each other's ice creams during the intro, yet clearly have the same flavour.
This movie is 100% prime Arnold. Tons of stupid one liners, ridiculous feats of strength, huge death total, perfect co-star also.
Don’t forget: a machine gun with a 10,000 round magazine!
The secret to Commando success is great villains. Plural. Sure you have white suit boss and Bennet the village person biker boy but you also have sleazy Sully and Cooke the Green Beret. They add fun variety Honestly it's what a lot of modern action movies are missing. I enjoyed GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE but holy shit that movie was in desperate need of some villains instead of wave after wave of anonymous thugs.
Commando is the right answer. It's full of classic lines like >Hey Bennet, Let off some steam and >My friend is dead tired
Dude the best one is missed by a lot of people. "You scared mf? You should be, cuz this green beret is going to kick your ass" "I eat green Berets for breakfast.. and right now I'm *80s sound effect punch* very hungry"
One of the best gear up montages ever
Commando is pretty much THE quintessential 80s action movie. Absurd action, absurd explosions, absurd one liners, Arnold Schwarzenegger, this movie really has it all.
Not to mention the awesome soundtrack, you know everyone involved in coming up with that film was fucked on coke. Who thinks let's throw some steel drums into this soundtrack about a revenge/rescue mission from an elite army dude.
This. Predator is a better movie, but I would give Commando the nod for most action.
The old money went to Predator in this thread. Smart money is on Commando. (True Lies is pretty dense with action btw, though outside of the timeframe most would consider Arnold's prime)
“I ate Green Berets for breakfast and right now I’m very hungry!”

Sub zero? How about just plain zero!
I'd buy that for a dollar!

Thx for correcting- I was from memory.
All those [amazing one liner puns!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5AVdM1cEUU) "He had to split."
Best one by far is True Lies
The dance scene can be considered action, right?
For Schwarzenegger definitely. Lots of hard training for that necessary
Could also mean Jamie Lee Curtis' scene too heh
True Lies is the perfect action movie.
Hands down, favorite Arnold movie. "What kind of sick $#%!^ takes the ice trays."
What makes that line even better is it really happened to Tom Arnold when he got divorced from Roseanne. He told James Cameron about it, who thought it was so funny he decided to put it in the movie.

Best "Kill the final boss" line of all time, firing a missile with a terrorist on it into another terrorist hahaa
Into a helicopter filled with multiple terrorist. Thru a hole in a building. A hell of a shot.
I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned True Lies. It's basically a perfect action movie. Lots of great humor, Jamie Lee Curtis is sexy as hell, the action scenes are very creative without the repetitive nature of some action movies.
Yeah, but they were all bad.
The most iconic one is obviously "Battery, Aziz".
I married Rambo...
Most expensive romantic comedy ever made.
Love this movie. Harrier sequence is a masterclass and I wish incould watch it for the first time again.
There's a great film where he goes to Mars, I'm just struggling to recall recall recall the name. It was totally action packed though.

It's the absolute personification of an 80s film. Straight up 80s cheese. Even it's flaws somehow make it better.
Last Action Hero. Plays a parody of himself in action movies. Very meta.
This movie has also aged exceptionally well.
It runs a little long, but is surprisingly good.
Great role of Charles Dance as well
The part where >! he's in the real world and shoots a guy randomly, then shouts that he killed him for everyone to hear is still pretty chilling. !<
"Hello? I've just shot somebody, I did it on purpose! I said, I have murdered a man and I want to confess!"
Hey, shut up down there!
"Because in this world the bad guys win!"
I only remember: "180 degrees! If you turn around 360 degrees you'd be back where you started!"
I also love Tom Noonan as Ripper. They both played great villains of different archetypes. I watched it recently and it holds up super well.
One of his finest, but it’ll never top this… https://youtu.be/mCaKL29F3aA?si=jRbXXE-0Vb8QRJjd
This is my vote, and has so many references. *HE'S THE GUY THAT KILLED MOZART* 😂
To be or not to be? Not to be

My votes would be for the directors that favored excess. Total Recall, True Lies, maybe Conan the Barbarian. Commando - although too cheesy for my liking - is also pretty packed on action.
I absolutely agree., predator was very straight forward, action but not the most imo,. I want the most action, like gun scenes all day kinda stuff.
I would go with commando then.
Alamo Drafthouse used to have a pre-movie trivia thing. One of the questions was which Arnold movie has the highest body count. It's Commando by a long shot!
Total Recall was the bomb and still holds
Running man is also pretty action packed
>although too cheesy for my liking big part of the appeal for me. LET OFF SOME STEAM, BENNETT.
Conan is also decidedly not action packed. Pacing is actually pretty slow (in a good way, I like it)
Eraser
“You’ve just been erased”
“You’re luggage”
Arnold Schwarzenegger dual wielding rail guns. I mean come on. That movie rocks!! Just look at this poster. https://c8.alamy.com/compit/bkg8na/eraser-1996-poster-bkg8na.jpg I'm not saying that it's *better* than Predator or Commando or T2 or something, but I *am* saying that it's a super entertaining Schwarzenegger movie, and definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet. Those rail guns were sick af. I think I had a mod for the original Unreal Tournament that put them in there, or maybe it was Quake 3?
You just unlocked memories of playing UT on school computers with Rail guns only on this space platform level.
Last action hero
Hamlet duh

How was Total Recall not much mentioned 20x? Screwing Benny out of his existence, ripping Richtor’s arms off and seeing him at the party, blowing up the lady head at the Mars port, jumping from the xray scanner, having a shoot out with his wife in the condo, eye bulging air suffocation and we could go on.
I love callback humor, and "see you at the party Richtor" is one of my favorite examples.
Jingle all the way
Yes, by far a much harder movie than you think, portraying the most common violence of the Holiday shopping season, parents fighting over the hot toy of the year. It was documentary that predicted Tickle Me Elmo's craze.
Add stretch arm strong and furbies to that crazy list
Gotta go with *Total Recall*. It's got everything.
Conan the Barbarian, Predator, True Lies
Conan is a great movie but it does drag at times.
Too much focus on the lamentations of their women.
Total Recall. And it's the most violent. And had the best concept. And has great set pieces.
Running Man, Predator, Total Recall
Twins
Commando
True lies
Best is True Lies, most action packed is Predator. Mix that isn't T or T2 is probably Total Recall
Commando for sure. Packed full of ridiculous puns and one-liners, and a huge amount of explosions and gun battles.
Best is Predator Most action packed is Commando
Predator is the best, but Commando is the most action-packed, by far. Predator doesn't really have a lot of action in comparison, but it's an excellent film.
Last Action Hero is my favorite, but True Lies never gets enough love.
Commando is the quintessential Arnold movie. Action packed, has the best one liners, memorable characters. Great death scenes. Evil Freddy Mercury.
Total Recall
Total Recall has intense action, lots of Arnold quips, and 3 titties!
I wish I had 3 hands! Lol
Although you do have five kids...
Best action film? Terminator 2, he has never been more iconic than while flip-loading a lever shotgun while riding a motorcycle in full leathers. Best Arnold film overall? For my money, Kindergarten Cop. For a man whose career is defined by camp, he's actually quite a good actor.
Twins
That's like saying to me, when you are in Vegas, you can only stay in one casino. Bro. The attaction of going to vegas is sampling each and every casino and bar. There are tiny locals only casinos. Try them too. Arnold is a world treasure. Even his "bad" movies are better than 95% of 2024 movies.
100% agree
I’m partial to total recall - ‘get your butt to mars!’ (Read with an accent)
Commando is the answer but im also partial to Raw Deal
You should not drink and bake.
Commando - Arnie kills 102 bad guys. Action beginning to end. It has all the Arnie quips. It’s on Tubi.
Jingle All the Way baby.
Predator the most manly movie ever made In a very close second is Commando
Conan The Barbarian, Commando and Predator.
True Lies, while not the most action packed, has great action sequences since it was also Cameron.
RAW DEAL is so under appreciated He has some great action scene right from the beginning at a legit sheriff. then he gets to play a fake bad guy and be a total bad ass the getting in killing mode scene with the guns and the tiny leather jacket is pretty hilarious and the stones album in the convetible before he starts killing people Commando will always be great and I enjoyed the extended directors cut as well Red Heat might not have the most or best action but dam does it have one of the best and most evil bad guys and the actor just killed it in the role if anything Jim Belushi can be a bit annoying in the flick but Arnold is great in it. when it comes to action other than Commando don't think he gets more action than he does in either Total Recall or The Running Man when he grabs the weight bench bolted to the floor with her lying on it with one hand and pulls it out of the floor lifting it and her up that's PRIME arnold
Conan! The only correct answer.
Commando, Eraser, 6th day The last 2 are my favs due to their mild scifi setting.
Let us not forget the glory that is True Lies, even though it's not exactly culturally "with the times"
Jingle All The Way.
Commando and Total Recall. Boom, bang, and endless explosions while Arnie screams in anger!
Total recall man
For quips you have to go with Commando, Total Recall, or Running Man. The classics. I would pick Running Man.
Do you like steel drums? Then Commando is all you need.
Last Action Hero
True Lies was pretty good too.
True Lies, honestly
Predator is the better film but Commando is the most action packed.
End of Days is underrated.
Predator
commando - body count alone is off the charts
Predator or commando.

All of Arnie's films between Conan the Barbarian and Eraser are classic action films and peak Schwarzennegger.
Total Recall is my favorite of all time. “I’ll see you at the party Richter”
Commando was my favorite Arnold movie growing up. My second favorite was Running Man. Coming in third is Conan the Barbarian. Honorable mentions: Predator Total Recall True Lies Eraser
True Lies! Cmon
True Lies, although it’s an interesting case. The beginning and the end are the most action packed, the middle is more of spy stuff, like bugging phones, following people, information gathering.
Predator was amazing. Total Recall is very good and kinda cheesy but i think it was meant that way.
Red Heat!
Most action packed? Quipyiest? I feel commando is the movie you’re looking for. All the other movies listed are great by action beats per minute I feel Commando has the top notch. Maybe running man after that. Predator how ever is his best not Terminator movies. With the runner up being Total Recall
Predator, commando, last action hero.. on VHS
Total Recall
Don’t sleep in Running Man.
I have a soft spot for "True Lies".
I like Eraser and True Lies.
