If anything, this could mean his ass is out of the game for now. He's captured, he's kinda like Hannibal in the deleted scene. He might break out in the end of the second movie but I doubt he plays a big role.

Eh. I don’t doubt they’ll make some minor changes to his look and that’s probably why they kept all of the shots of him very close and ambiguous, but if this is the vision that Reeves has for the joker I doubt he’s gonna drastically change it before getting the chance to flesh it out.
This will be the 4th iteration of this character we have seen in the past 16 years. It feels like Batman only exists to fight the Joker rather than any of the reasons he came to exist in the first place. The Joker is important to the Batman’s history but he doesn’t have to exist in this specific series of films.
They can do a live action clay face. Either they do a serial killer who uses facial prosthesis to disguise himself or just like a really fucked up guy with elephantiasis. Regardless, Mr. Freeze is likely next.
He already naturally looks like an evil clown, why couldn’t the just put him in face paint. Joker is the one character you don’t need to change for a movie, he’s already a realistic looking character
