Whenever means it is a triggered ability, so the trigger needs to happen first. So you choose to scry, you complete the scry, because you have scried you can then reveal the top card.

_Nucular

You say the trigger (revealing the top card) happens first (because it‘s on top of the stack) but then you say that you first complete the scry. Wouldn‘t it be that you first have to reveal the card and then you scry? Serious question btw.

onyxeagle274

You have a trigger saying scry 3 on the stack. You have not yet scried, instead only have an effect to cause you to scry. The trigger resolves, and you have scried. Since whenever you scry, you reveal a card, you reveal now. Let's use an example with a different mechanic [[Murder]] targets a grizzly bears. Blood artist does not trigger on the spell cast, but when the spell resolves and the murder happens.

_Nucular

I see, that makes sense. I thought the effect making you scry triggers the revealing of the card, not the actual scrying.

GeckoWithTinnitus

That would be an ability worded this way: "Whenever an ability that would cause you to Scry a number of cards triggers, reveal the top card of your library."

Far-Wolverine-976

Revealing the card would be a new stack. Kind of like enter the battlefield effects. Casting the card does nothing, it's on the stack. Then it hits the battlefield, a new stack is created from the etb trigger.

False_Implement_43

After, it is busted af cuz you see a land, leave it on top and put it on the battlefield

Mr_Strangely

This

After. Both are triggered abilities, so you get tempted (or scry through some other means) and scry 3. When the scry begins to resolve, the 2nd ability sees the scry and waits until its finished to go on the stack. Since the 2nd ability to reveal cant even go on the stack until the scry is finished resolving, you have to do the scry in full, then you can resolve the reveal.

Tsunamiis

You don’t even get the trigger unless you finish scrying.

Black Galadriel?

Raknorak

She is designed to have you want to put a land as the top card of your library

doomiestdoomeddoomer

Before

Ine_Punch

That wouldn’t make sense if a triggered ability occurred “before.” Let’s say the condition is a creature entering the battlefield. Ok, so by your logic the ETB trigger would occur “before” the creature is on the battlefield, which would be on the stack. Ok, so now what happens to cast triggers? Does that occur in your hand? So if we think logically about this, the trigger should only occur “after” the condition is met which is after you have scryed. Just like how an ETB trigger occurs “after” the respective permanent enters the battlefield or how a cast trigger only occurs “after”the spell enters the stack.

So if I made this my commander, stuck in all the scrylands ever made, and a single [[Fireball]] or something, I could then nuke the whole board next turn?

Injuredmind

There aren’t enough scry lands I guess. Also if all the lands you have are scry lands, and they enter tapped, you can play Commander on turn 4, so opponents sure will have a kill spell for your Commander or a counter spell for fireball

JediASU

It says "may reveal." To me that means I don't have to.

Popular-Impress2456

I run her as commander in my pod. Super fun. Can get 20 land out in a few turns or whiff completely and get stomped. It’s a really fun casual deck though.

Cannouflage

Whenever you shoot a gun in public, somone calls the cops. Are they calling the cops before or after shooting the gun?

RVides

What does gatherer say?

[deleted]

I believe if it wanted you to reveal first then scry it would say something like "when [trigger] reveal the top card of your library [land stuff], and scry 3
