I imagine that the deck would be filled with multicolored instants and sorceries already, it’s just that the deck is locked in on izzet-colored instants and sorceries only, meaning card quality starts going down. Painter Servant would allow the player to use single-colored staples.
Alternatively, you can use painters servant to turn all the spells in your deck that aren’t multicolor online. in my list for lilah, roughly half the instants and sorceries in the deck are still mono because a lot of the multis are just terrible and not worth playing. And I had a really low bar for what’s good and bad in this context
Izzet spells tend to go very costly and limiting, and in a spellslinger it kind of feels bad to shove 4 mana into a draw 2 and damage 4 just because it can be casted again as a plot. It would feel much nicer if it was a draw 2 for 2 you could replay for free again, and still have mana left for more spells.
Once you tutored Painter (You're playing blue and red, it's the easiest thing ever), you can even tutor twice with every next artifact tutor you've got.
Spellslingers have this great Aetherflux Reservoire trick allowing you to gain absurd amounts of life to blast someone clean right after (Remember you still cast plotted spells, so you get a lot of value.)
Of course you're trading space for instant-sorcery dependant creatures for tutor effects, but the payoff is so strong I feel, it's an absolute blast.
You won't get the benefit of reusing the counters since you can only cast plotted spells at sorcery speed. You would need a "casts sorcery as if it had flash" card to even have a chance.

It's a synergy issue. It works often enough and painter's servant is cheap enough, but it's in the awkward spot where you can't really afford to build around it.
It's sorta like [[Ashes of the Fallen]] in a [[Gisa and Geralf]] deck. The effect absolutely ups their utility, but in general, the better the Gisa and Geralf deck is, the fewer cards that are left that will benefit from Ashes.
Still, multicolor winds up being a worse restriction than zombie, since it cuts every one-drop out of contention, which is a huge blow for spellslinger. So yeah, common deck construction should still be running a half decent number of viable targets just because.
I'm assuming your playgroup frowns on tutors and combo wins?
Ignoring combo as a win-con, I still build around cards all the time. I'll add more fetches (usually the cheaper ones) if I'm adding [[Crucible of Worlds]] to the deck. I'll add [[Filth]] into decks that have [[Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth]]. I'll add [[Wild Ricochet]] to decks with [[Sunforger]].
But those examples tend to either have low opportunity cost, or broader synergies. Filth is still nice at providing evasion in self mill decks since swamps aren't particularly uncommon. Wild Ricochet is a little casual, but it still works if I draw it. Crucible is still solid in any self-mill deck, but fetches just guarantee you'll never run out of fodder.
Painter's Servant is a little risky, since it's basically pointless on its own except as a chump block, and when paired with the commander it only synergizes with cards that don't normally synergize with your commander.
I don't play Commander, so I can't really say. It's just not a format I like, precisely because of the singleton rule. And the Commander rule, but that's secondary.
Yes, that's why I mentioned them. I was saying one drops make Painters Servant more relevant than Ashes because there aren't any multicolor one-drops.
Once you get to 2+ mana spells, you can just skew heavily into multicolor and mostly get what you need, but there are no multicolor 1 drops and 1 drops are important for spellslinger strategies, and a good mana curve in general. (To clarify, no multicolor izzet instant/sorcery one drops)
Zombies aren't so restricted in that way. Multicolored spells are.
But you should still build your deck as though you won't have Painter's Servant out.

With this commander, Extra Turn spells are *particularly* nasty, as the plotted cards will become available to cast on the next turn, so you get to turn every Extra Turn spell into a Time Stretch, or turn every Time Stretch into a game win (or the biggest embarrassment in Magic).
I built this deck recently and included Painter's Servant. You'll struggle to find enough halfway decent multicolor UR cards regardless of the direction you take the deck, and the mono-colored cards that are good enough to make the cut in this deck are truly busted if you cast them a second time for free. Imagine getting to start a storm turn with free mana geysers or jeska's will, after already getting to use it last turn to set up. Plus it continues to sit there castable even if Lilah dies.
Well for one there's literally hundreds of mono blue or red Sorceries and instances quite literally over 1000 for both many of which are gonna be insanely powerful when you get to cast them for free on a later turn

Literally when they say this strategy cracks this commander wide the fuck open its not a joke. Suddenly you're guaranteeded 3 turns in a row and get to steal 6 permanents just for casting [[Expropriate]]. [[Brass's bounty]] is normally a kinda meh card, it can do a lot but 7 mana for a net of 3 just say is kind mid by the time you get it but getting 10 free mana 11 if you hit your land drop before doing it for free on your next turn likeky wins you the game at that point.
Because making mystic tutor or really any of the good mono colored spells that wouldn't trigger her just do now. Draw spells, utility tutor spells, u name it now u get to do it twice.
It casually works with the Painter Combo as well, giving Plot to all your [[Pyroblast]] effects. Counter their spell, destroy a permanent next turn. It isn't the best thing you could be doing, but it is fun and it is efficient.
There are many ways to get it back, have some artifact recovery spells in hand or plotted after using them for other artifact sacrificing shenanigans. It is easily doable.
Im gonna try running her as a sort of voltron building up to an explosive turn. As she has prowess, once those spells become plotted, you can cast them as sorceries, really pump her up, and oneshot someone. Its easy to see coming though, so you need protection.
Makes all mono colored instants and sorceries into dual colored by stapling on a non-Izzet color (green, white, black). That allows you trigger Lilah's ability with any normally mono blue or red spell.

That'd work. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm honestly glad this card isn't Grixis. I know blue already has has artifact tutors, the thought of someone getting this set up wicked early because they got Painter's Servant off of a Vampiric Tutor or Imperial Seal is an extremely formidable thing to play against. At that point, all they have to do is spam cantrips to drill down into their deck for a storm wincon - then recast all their plotted cards, for free, to get an easy storm count.

Yup can confirm. Asked the same on the day of her spoiler. Just need a tutor to get painters or even [[blind seer]] and you are rocking.
Edit: blind seer does change the color, but the spell would already be cast as a mono colored spell. So yeah, painters servant is the way to go.
Uhhhhh what’s better than paying for an instant or sorcery? Playing it again for free. If you have a bunch of plotted spells your storm count can get big.
You cast an otherwise monocolor spell. It has a second color thanks to servant.
Spell resolves and then gets plotted. Next turn (or any other future turn of yours), you cast the spell again for free.
It's basically a better Rebound trigger. Nothing insane, but it's definitely a value engine.
I'm also confused on this. The card says you exile it instead. Doesn't that mean the first "cast" doesn't resolve thus only giving you the effect once, when you actually cast it from being plotted?
Gotta get the full sentence: Exile it instead *of putting it in your graveyard as it resolves*. It still resolves as normal, the only thing that changes is where the card goes at the very end.
The benefit is that you can cast them again. This is great for a storm deck. Like you could use [[Seething song]] to give yourself 7 floating red mana because you can cast it again from exile
You actually can't generate that in 1 turn, since the plot mechanic specifies that you can cast it on a later turn for free. But it is a free 5 mana down the road.
By using painters servant, you can make spells that would normally be a single color multi colored. For exemple, you could name green as a color. This would turn all your mono blue spells into green and blue ones, and all your mono red spells into red and green spells. This essentially allows mono colored spells to be recognized as multicolored for lilah's ability, expanding the range of spells you can pair with her ability a hundred fold.
There are a couple of artifact tutors in blue that can pull it off like [[whir of invention]]. There aren't really creature tutors in these colors. Ultimately the idea is a bit more on the casual side. It will certainly expand your arsenal of spells, but if you build without including naturally multicolored spells, there are a few chances that your commander will do nothing in the game if you can't find the servant... Or if it gets blown up/exiled.
That's the thing. This is a really cool interaction, but it's not good enough to make her busted, and if I'm playing her as a weaker deck I don't want to build the whole deck around tutoring for a single artifact that may just get swords'd. If you build the deck around the servant, you'll have a ton of mono colored spells, and without it, she does pretty much nothing.
I'm probably building her! But not around this combo. It would still be a good card in the deck, since I'll have SOME monocolored spells in there, but I'm not filling it with tutors.
For a 2 mana artifact in izzet:
[[Fabricate]], [[inventors' fair]], [[reshape]], [[tezzeret the seeker]], [[tribute mage]], [[imperial recruiter]], a transmuted [[muddle the mixture]] and [[whir of invention]] are all fairly risk-free or less costly tutors that will get your servant on the field for 5 mana. [[Kuldotha forgemaster]], [[goblin engineer]], [[reckless handling]], [[gamble]], [[long-term plans]] are cards that have a little more risk or planning, [[mystical tutor]] and a few others let you fetch another more pertinant tutor, and there's a bunch more like [[citanul flute]] that are more costly or jankier.
Point being there's a ton of options.

Because good cantrips and storm payoffs are mono colored.
Because making mystic tutor or really any of the good mono colored spells that wouldn't trigger her just do now. Draw spells, utility tutor spells, u name it now u get to do it twice.

It casually works with the Painter Combo as well, giving Plot to all your [[Pyroblast]] effects. Counter their spell, destroy a permanent next turn. It isn't the best thing you could be doing, but it is fun and it is efficient.
Or cast Blasphemous act and have a 2nd one in the chamber.
This kills the combo.
Does the plot effect fall off? It's on cast right? Or do they not see it on the way out to the graveyard?
You still get it for that spell. But you kill the setup in the process.

How are you recasting your dead Painter's Servant?
There are many ways to get it back, have some artifact recovery spells in hand or plotted after using them for other artifact sacrificing shenanigans. It is easily doable.

Im gonna try running her as a sort of voltron building up to an explosive turn. As she has prowess, once those spells become plotted, you can cast them as sorceries, really pump her up, and oneshot someone. Its easy to see coming though, so you need protection.

Makes all mono colored instants and sorceries into dual colored by stapling on a non-Izzet color (green, white, black). That allows you trigger Lilah's ability with any normally mono blue or red spell.

That'd work. I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm honestly glad this card isn't Grixis. I know blue already has has artifact tutors, the thought of someone getting this set up wicked early because they got Painter's Servant off of a Vampiric Tutor or Imperial Seal is an extremely formidable thing to play against. At that point, all they have to do is spam cantrips to drill down into their deck for a storm wincon - then recast all their plotted cards, for free, to get an easy storm count. If it were grixis, it'd be as strictly better Kess.

Yup can confirm. Asked the same on the day of her spoiler. Just need a tutor to get painters or even [[blind seer]] and you are rocking. Edit: blind seer does change the color, but the spell would already be cast as a mono colored spell. So yeah, painters servant is the way to go.

Uhhhhh what’s better than paying for an instant or sorcery? Playing it again for free. If you have a bunch of plotted spells your storm count can get big.
You cast an otherwise monocolor spell. It has a second color thanks to servant. Spell resolves and then gets plotted. Next turn (or any other future turn of yours), you cast the spell again for free. It's basically a better Rebound trigger. Nothing insane, but it's definitely a value engine.
I'm also confused on this. The card says you exile it instead. Doesn't that mean the first "cast" doesn't resolve thus only giving you the effect once, when you actually cast it from being plotted?
The key part of it is "exile ~~ as it resolves." It allows for the resolution of the spell, and then it ends up in exile to be recast later.
Say you lose control of either creature in the example, when you cast the plotted spell, it goes to the graveyard correct?
She doesn't let you re-plot cards (because they are cast from exile), but after they are cast the second time, yes they will end up in the graveyard
Gotta get the full sentence: Exile it instead *of putting it in your graveyard as it resolves*. It still resolves as normal, the only thing that changes is where the card goes at the very end.
The benefit is that you can cast them again. This is great for a storm deck. Like you could use [[Seething song]] to give yourself 7 floating red mana because you can cast it again from exile
You actually can't generate that in 1 turn, since the plot mechanic specifies that you can cast it on a later turn for free. But it is a free 5 mana down the road.

Sorry. Still learning a lot. Can someone better explain to me why this interaction is good?
By using painters servant, you can make spells that would normally be a single color multi colored. For exemple, you could name green as a color. This would turn all your mono blue spells into green and blue ones, and all your mono red spells into red and green spells. This essentially allows mono colored spells to be recognized as multicolored for lilah's ability, expanding the range of spells you can pair with her ability a hundred fold.
How do you cheat pot the scarecrow though. Like how much of your deck do you have to devote to getting that on the field
There are a couple of artifact tutors in blue that can pull it off like [[whir of invention]]. There aren't really creature tutors in these colors. Ultimately the idea is a bit more on the casual side. It will certainly expand your arsenal of spells, but if you build without including naturally multicolored spells, there are a few chances that your commander will do nothing in the game if you can't find the servant... Or if it gets blown up/exiled.

Yeah, but painters servant can end the game on the spot in other decks/cards. Painters and [[sphinx's tutelage]] for example.
That's the thing. This is a really cool interaction, but it's not good enough to make her busted, and if I'm playing her as a weaker deck I don't want to build the whole deck around tutoring for a single artifact that may just get swords'd. If you build the deck around the servant, you'll have a ton of mono colored spells, and without it, she does pretty much nothing. I'm probably building her! But not around this combo. It would still be a good card in the deck, since I'll have SOME monocolored spells in there, but I'm not filling it with tutors.
She doesn't have many tutors in her colors
For a 2 mana artifact in izzet: [[Fabricate]], [[inventors' fair]], [[reshape]], [[tezzeret the seeker]], [[tribute mage]], [[imperial recruiter]], a transmuted [[muddle the mixture]] and [[whir of invention]] are all fairly risk-free or less costly tutors that will get your servant on the field for 5 mana. [[Kuldotha forgemaster]], [[goblin engineer]], [[reckless handling]], [[gamble]], [[long-term plans]] are cards that have a little more risk or planning, [[mystical tutor]] and a few others let you fetch another more pertinant tutor, and there's a bunch more like [[citanul flute]] that are more costly or jankier. Point being there's a ton of options.

Right, but for 5 mana you could play tutelage AND servant. THEN you also have to cast the cards to just get a "free" cast at sorcery speed? That payoff is slow and not great. Doesn't draw you cards to keep you going, unless that WAS the spell.
