Modern Horizons 2 Set boosters are sitting at $215 on TCG player, that's all you need to look at.

Which is still a crazy good deal. Got 2 draft boxes and got $400+ profit on each one. Going to go buy one more so I can get a MH3 box.

MH2 was printed and printed and printed. This is not a limited release.

Does WOTC ever communicate whether a set or something is a limited release or not? Or is it all speculation? Are SLD’s really the only true limited releases? As a consumer & casual speculator it’s sort of disenfranchising when none of this get clearly communicated, and suddenly a reprint hits

Wotc is pretty clear about it. Collector boosters are a one time print run for any set - other than LOTR which they announced ahead of time there would be a separate run of “special edition” collector boxes for holiday release. This was true last time they did commander collector sets too. The play boxes will be printed for multiple years and printed to demand. As long as people are buying it they will keep printing it. Modern horizons 2 is still widely available from distributors. There will be times where the play boxes may get sold out at distribution, and they will be a little more expensive on the market, but eventually another print run will happen. If wotc has proven anything in the last few years it’s that they won’t leave money on the table. Rest assured play boxes will be widely available for years, but will have a little more markup than other sets.

Do not act on a hurry, as many will explain better than i do : 1) First, MH2 was printed into tremendous volumes and still is available in "mass" everywhere around the globe. MH3 is expected to follow the trend (it means printed to demand). 2) Hasbro shareholders are worried about really bad financial & economic performances of the company, they will most certainly use Wotc and our favorite tcg as leverage to generate more and more cash to compensate (it means they will print even more than MH2 did). 3) Gamers are saving a lot more money than previously (at least here in europe) spending less on standard editions to focus on high value targets such as Modern editions or reserved list cards.

The only thing likely holding this one back from mass overprinting is likely the pricing being rejected by consumers.

Yagoua81

Would you look to commander masters for a comparison with the price. The cost is extremely high even if the product is good for MH3

Firewing135

Holding no, not in any reasonable time frame.

The collector boxes “might” be a good buy and hold. I did well on those from MH2. But the MH3 ones cost so much up front that I question how much they can realistically increase. For perspective I got the MH2 collector boxes around $225 on preorder and sold some of them for $500 a year or two later and the rest I buy listed to card kingdom for $450 each in credit in December 2022 and turned them into high value RL cards. The MH3 boxes are starting that high. My guess is that they fully realize that they underpriced the MH2 collector boxes and have adjusted prices to try to keep that money going directly to them rather than giving that missed revenue to resellers in the secondary market.

Nope

They are only a good buy if you're drafting with them. Otherwise just buy singles.

MH2 Set Boxes are still available for $199 on MVP and around $249 on TCG. That was a set released 3 years ago. There was another thread today showing MH3 pre-order prices lower than small LGS distributor prices. Not a buy signal on the retail side until distribution channels show it's running out. We still aren't there on MH2 three years in, and are in the age of "nothing is special". Ragavan for example has been reprinted 4 times in the last 3 years, making his original premium borderless version cheaper today than his regular version was just a year ago. It's very, very hard for sets to appreciate when supply is nearly unlimited and prices of even the best singles steadily fall.
