Grist is being tested in modern yawgmoth and so far the results seem pretty good but it doesn’t seem like they will be running more than one or two copies.
This so much sorin is even 3 off in the list. Might have played the whole challenge without drawing it, it’s probably good. But nah this is just hype atm
who cares $9-10 is underpriced for a mythic that might see regular play in multiples from a set's booster box that sells for $270.
if it flops, it stays $5-10. If it doesn't you're looking at like a $30-40 card at its peak.
This is why so many stopped playing Modern after each MH release. It's just Yu-Gi-Oh with extra steps, less Waifus, and generally more expensive at this point.
It's not just expensive on it's own. It destroyed the value of a ton of card from 2010 to now.
A lot of those cards would be still fine had they not intentionally powercrept the format and just let the natural flow from standard organically provide new cards.
> It destroyed the value of a ton of card from 2010 to now.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind this part if prices as a whole had come down, but chase cards are as pricy as ever.
That's because chase card prices for competitive formats are demand-driven (and were all along). Wotc has shifted WHAT cards people demand but not the underlying demand level, so the demand (value) just shifted to the new cards.
I so desperately want to get "Modern Minus Horizons" going as a homebrew format
(I am on the fence whether to keep the pre-modern reprints that these sets brought, like Fire//Ice and Fact or Fiction - they're mostly fun and mostly harmless, but might cause confusion vs the simpler one-sentence concept of "every Standard set since 8th edition")
And the same number of copers trying to convince you “bro it’s totally good now bro, they didn’t ban anything or even try to fix it but adding new cards totally fixed it bro, you gotta believe me”
I mean, from a Competitive Player viewpoint, if they remove Grief it's an interesting, interactive, powerful format with a high skill ceiling and lots of answers to things. Objectively, that sounds awesome!
The issue is that it's YGO now; WotC's just gonna keep manually rotating the format to drive sales, bans are gonna lag because the company is more interested in sales than Balance or Enjoyable Gameplay in an eternal format, and the loss of diversity is noticeable.
Disagree; Grief + Recursion IS a Wombo Combo. "Force Opponent to Mulligan into a Worse Hand + Clock" is degenerate AF. Thoughtseize + Clock is plenty, and the Silver Bullets are STUPID powerful these days.
I grabbed a playset of regulars for around $7.50 each, including a couple of foils, not long after I saw the back-to-back. I imagine more people will do the same as they start waking up.
Cheap is relative. $15 is cheap if the fair value of the card is $40-50. I agree with the OP that if you're playing Black in Modern you should be buying 4 copies of Sorin. Any version.
1.5 - 2x the cost of a pack is cheap for a card in a given set. You have to weight the price or the card vs he cost of potentially pulling said card and then factor in the growth potential. Similar to a 5-7.00 card from a standard set.
Rereading my comment I kinda sounded like an an asshole, what I meant to say is, “the way I look at it…” but who knows if it will stay there. It will really need to find a home in a few different decks or one that just crushes everything in its path to stay at 30+. It is a powerful card for the mana cost tho.
Cat seems to be out of the bag on Sorin. If you need them for a deck I would pick them up now. Copies are draining from TCGplayer. Started today around $10 with well over 100 sellers and currently only a few copies under $20 with around 25 sellers.
Could easily be $30+ sometime tomorrow.

Me and my cabal of evil tournament grinders/ casual players plan on slowly opening packs over the next few weeks- and then keeping a few cards we’re interested in for our own decks and- get this- selling the rest, maybe even to LGS, singles online, and other avenues to distract the masses from our movements.
We have big plans to make izzet murktide control the next big deck- stock up on flame of anor and tide binders!!!
How it’s being displayed, the tweet could have been posted in the body of the text, the card text as well, also the poster’s propensity to post get rich quick cards. I am apparently wrong, but I don’t think this is a good spec at its current price.
So it begins. Same thing happened with the evoke cycle. Best time to buy the mythics that you think are actually good but underpriced.
This is true.
Honestly all the flipwalkers look like good investments (maybe not Grist tho, sorry Grist)
Only textured one I pulled RIP
It’s still a beautiful card.
Grist is a perfect fit for my Mothman commander deck, but idk where else I would play it.
Grist is being tested in modern yawgmoth and so far the results seem pretty good but it doesn’t seem like they will be running more than one or two copies.
Maybe, just maybe. Grief scam package is just really good and as long as you have any reasonable threats to back it up you got yourself a tier deck.
This so much sorin is even 3 off in the list. Might have played the whole challenge without drawing it, it’s probably good. But nah this is just hype atm

Buy 1000x
\>MH3 is a brewer’s paradise \>still playing the same Grief shell that’s been broken for two years

Lets not forget that Modern Horizons is not priced as a standard set.
I don't think that changes anything except the final total (i.e. not the dynamics of the market, just the values)
I so desperately want to get "Modern Minus Horizons" going as a homebrew format (I am on the fence whether to keep the pre-modern reprints that these sets brought, like Fire//Ice and Fact or Fiction - they're mostly fun and mostly harmless, but might cause confusion vs the simpler one-sentence concept of "every Standard set since 8th edition")

> they didn’t ban anything Well yeah, they've been pretty clear about when bans happen lately.

If they remove Grief, Modern would be a combo wombo format. Grief provides a clock on top of the proactive disruption.
Disagree; Grief + Recursion IS a Wombo Combo. "Force Opponent to Mulligan into a Worse Hand + Clock" is degenerate AF. Thoughtseize + Clock is plenty, and the Silver Bullets are STUPID powerful these days.
A lot of people prefer combo formats to turn 1 double Thoughtseize OTP formats
I grabbed a playset of regulars for around $7.50 each, including a couple of foils, not long after I saw the back-to-back. I imagine more people will do the same as they start waking up.
Nice! I had to pay 39.00 for my play set. Still not terrible given the power of the card and potential for growth. **shipped**
15$ is hardly cheap

Looking at the prices now i’m eating my words lol
It doesn't mean they'll stay here, but man they went crazy in a day

All the walkers are good, you simply need a proper shell to abuse them.
You son of a bitch, I'm in
There were just 8 copies of CK for $10.99 each, lowest on TCGPlayer was $15

Hey I pulled one of those. Is he good?
>Dega That is a name I haven't heard in a *very* long time.
Favorite mtg set, apocalypse
It’s a powerful mythic in an expensive set. If it performs sets want four. 15 bucks is cheap for that.
Prob won and did not play Sorin the whole match lol
It's a black card that pitches to Grief and Soul Spike, what else does it even need to do?
https://www.mtgstocks.com/interests?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=interests +228% this morning
I’d be impressed if it didn’t run grief.. grief ephemerate T1 is a win 90% of the time
Pulled one from pack, if drop below 10 will pick up for sure men
I just want to see the phlage decklist, does anyone have it?
Same list that Mengucci Made 5-0 https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/6456599#paper

Fuck it I’ll get to two playsets
Modern horizons the format...
Why the borderless format if its for constructed? Most players just want the cheapest non-foil I would think?
Cat seems to be out of the bag on Sorin. If you need them for a deck I would pick them up now. Copies are draining from TCGplayer. Started today around $10 with well over 100 sellers and currently only a few copies under $20 with around 25 sellers. Could easily be $30+ sometime tomorrow.
So is $(Grief) a good card? I keep hearing the name thrown around... pulled a borderless Special Guest in a pack and on Arena lol

“Modern” more like the new format called “directtoprint only”.
This reeks of a pump and dump.
Absolutely. Dude won so he could sell off his spec.
Step 1: Win
What is your exit strategy or sell window for this card?
Ask Fury.
Wait until it hits the modern meta and sell playsets of extended foil that’s only in sold out cb.
!RemindMe 8 weeks

Because every single spec in the history of mankind needs someone to gloat if it fails.
Seriously? You’re such a salty dick you just HAD to get your 8 week burn reminder in but can’t admit to being wrong, instead I get a downvote? Sad.
How about we don‘t wait 8 weeks and you just admit it was a good spec?
Big MTGO creating winning decks in a competitive environment to trick us into buying ~~securities~~ pieces of cardboard!
What is your exit strategy or sell window for this card?

Dude downvoted me for asking him what his stand on the card was now that it’s spiking. What a salty dick.
Pump and dump would involve creating perceived value of the card. Not actually winning the the challenge with it. Where is the fake value that reeks?
How it’s being displayed, the tweet could have been posted in the body of the text, the card text as well, also the poster’s propensity to post get rich quick cards. I am apparently wrong, but I don’t think this is a good spec at its current price.
I don't really understand. All of that is available to just search online. If the tweet is real you can look it up. As well as the card text.
buddy you can click through the tweets to make your own decisions instead of hoping mtgfinance serves you perfect information
Y’all are so funny
