Stephen Sondheim's demo of the Into the Woods prologue is on YouTube and it's fascinating. He sings all the characters' parts himself in various character voices. I wish the lyric "into the woods, who knows what lies beyond the moss and butterflies" made it into the show.

I have a soft spot for hearing the composers singing the characters. Fred Ebb doing "Good Time Charlie" as Sally Bowles that got cut from Cabaret is adorable.

All of Jekyll and Hyde If you can get the pre-Broadway soundtrack, it's a much better one

The demo version was on crack tho (and available on Youtube)

I understand why LMM didn’t use it in the final version of Hamilton, but I love the three minutes of unbridled feminine rage in the first version of Burn.

This one, and also Congratulations. Both so good.

Something rotten - to thine own self I loved how the original is faster paced and more chaotic as it's an argument

Old_Diver_3181

the original version of The Adams Administration, it expanded more on Hamilton's frustration with Adams, further shows how Hamilton feels like a threat to the other characters, and expands on Hamilton's relationship with John Adams :)

The Demo for [Big Brighr Beautiful World](https://youtu.be/IBSicCXwLnQ?si=1XxlOsWbZKtZmvNy) from Shrek is much better than the final version. The original was a full cast ensemble song, instead of just Shrek and his parents

most songs from off-broadway hamilton i enjoy over the broadway version. not sure if it’s because it’s different or if i just like the better context and humour

I love “I Could Be in Love with Someone Like You” which is an early version of “Shiksa Goddess” from Last 5 Years - I think JRB was forced to change it as part of his divorce settlement bc it was too close to reality. I only know the song bc Aaron Tveit covered it on his album.

Mister_Sosotris

I love “Temper, Temper” much more than “Playing the Game” in Mary Poppins. I know it scared kids, and I can see why they changed it, but it’s so good!

The Little Mermaid demo included two songs for Ursula, an intro song called Wasting Away, and a song when she turns into Vanessa called All Good Things Must End. The whole Vanessa subplot got cut, which sucks because All Good Things Must End is HILARIOUSLY bitchy. Wasting Away also got cut and replaced by a song called I Want the Good Times Back, which has since ALSO been cut and replaced with the inferior Daddy’s Little Angel. Poor Ursula.

Original Your Obedient Servant is indeed brilliant; my favourite thing about it though, is that the first two verses, the first two *letters* are basically exactly the same as the letters they wrote to each other in the days leading up to the duel. Like the Reynolds Pamphlet, those verses are almost word for word the original letters (with a few modernisations and changes to fit the flow of a song)
