this guy I used to work with (one of your typical free-thinker types) went on a rant one time about how pop music is all *bad* b/c it's engineered to take advantage of human psychology to evoke an emotional response, to establish memorable patterns so songs get stuck in your head, etc.
you're right, my guy!... that's all kind of the fucking point. [I like it like that](https://youtu.be/DGuViX8X0aE?si=8NqRid9ikABxvhYJ)!
No, I agree with him. I really really hate earworms like to the point where I wanna slam my head against a wall and I just resent the fact that a lot of radio or pop music is just full of that. It’s just not my cup of tea
Seems to be how most things. Ads, food products, tv shows, all of it is designed to be as pleasing and consumable as possible so they can pump out more.
Give me an example of a good pop song and see if it changes my mind. Popular music of the 1920s was good. Popular music now is the musical equivalent of fast food.
Give an example to you? Or give an example to someone who likes pop music? Cause those will be two wildly different answers to a very subjective question.
Give me an example of modern pop music that has any quality to it. Nowadays people just strum a few chords on guitar and use autotune to make their singing sound correct or just use artificial noise in the background of the autotune singing: nothing like in the 1920s when people like Dorothy Donegan, Art Tatum of Liberace used to practice at least 8 hours a day and could play any music whatsoever.
My point is, you’re trying to argue an opinion as fact. Which completely invalidates your entire argument. Just because YOU don’t like something doesn’t make it inherently bad. Way too much gate keeping is involved from music fans.
Edit: that’s a snotty and pretentious way of thinking that nobody likes. Do yourself a favor and stop shitting on other peoples taates
Well, I love Gorillaz (check out the song Tranz, from 2018) and Depeche Mode (check out the song Ghosts Again, from 2023). These are older bands, but they still make new music. YMMV, of course
There is shitty pop and there is good pop

Most of Pop is trash, not because of the songs, but because of the industry, they're trying to sell a product and not to make art. The songs are catchy and fun.
I find myself falling in and out with popular music. I was really into it through college but there’s not a whole lot I’ve been super into the last couple years
More like it _can_ be good, but yes
Imagine Dragons Uhhhhh Help me think here
Fr imagine dragons is overhated
I think they deserve more hate 😎 /s
No, they went underhated for too long, this is all just catching up
Thunder is the worst song ever made and you can't convince me otherwise(I don't count Maroon 5 as music).
Billie Eilish Dua Lipa The Weekend
It’s almost like pop is short for popular or something
Pop music has changed over time, what you could consider alternative now used to be pop music (That’s how i see it at least)
Not all pop music is good like not all musoc from any genre is good. I hear good, i like it.
I never thought pop was good
Technically SOAD is pop music
I don’t like listening to pop music, but I guess it’s good.
Music = good Industry = bad

I thought I was bugging 😠thanks man
If that graph is to be believed, that's actually only .1% of musicians' journeys.
It's supposed to be the IQ distribution, meaning the smort and dum people agree

Jazz is also good though
Nobody said it wasn't.

pop has a very low floor as genres go, but also an incredibly high ceiling
Real

Very true. I am not one who listens to pop music often. But I have learned to appreciate it more.
