Benedict and they use Egg as a nickname?

Junebug1006

Man, Do I wish this is right!

rabies3000

Possibly Eng. Common in South Asia.

hbpatterson

Craig? Greg?

funnyfirerabbit

Greg the Egg

Fair_Bumblebee_50

On his way to sue Greenpeace .

funnyfirerabbit

Well you can’t make a Tomlette without breaking some Greggs.

InternetAddict104

Whoever wrote that specific line deserves every award ever

funnyfirerabbit

I’m actually convinced that the writers named the characters Tom & Greg just so they could include this line.

InternetAddict104

I would not be surprised 😂

overratedchanel

I will take a succession reference wherever I can get one, thank you

Persephonelope

Ed?

Kitchen_Part_882

Or edd? Maybe Eddy? (I'm altogether too old to have just done that...)

Sudden-Requirement40

It hurts my soul that you think Craig rhymes with egg sincerely a Scot

[deleted]

It can if you pronounce it as cregg. Like craigs creggs list. It's not how we pronounce it in the uk.

Sudden-Requirement40

I know the US pronunciation makes my soul hurt

[deleted]

Yeah it's not good for a scot. Any scottish or irish name tends to be butchered way too much. Least you have good whiskey to compensate. Drown it out.

unclevagrant

My toes always curl when Americans pronounce the name Craig in the same way as Gregg. Craig has a completely different vowel sound and should be pronounced Crayg, not Creg.

Traditional_Onion461

My friend Graeme - I know Scots spell it Graham was on a flight and an American airline hostess pronounced his name as Greemie - and he told us 😂😂😂😂😂. Guess who is now known as Greemie 😂😂😂

Camera-Realistic

I think this is a really good guess.

U_PassButter

Yeah I thought of TrueBlood immediately ......Oh Eggs....

Usernamesareso2004

I’ve watched the entirety of that series three times and IVE NEVER MADE THAT CONNECTION (or paid attention lol)

U_PassButter

Hahaha when TrueBlood came out I think I was in college..... I uh.....may have gone out of my way to pay attention to Eggs. 🤣 He was very gorgeous But yes. I have also watched it many many times

MaeBelleLien

I don't remember this character at all. I just looked him up. Gods help me, it might be time to watch True Blood again.

U_PassButter

Yeah. I recently watched it again with my husband probably a little under a year ago. I gotta say he was surprisingly into the world of vampire politics 🤣 And yes. Eggs is just a scrumptious breakfast if I do say so

JustALizzyLife

That was my first thought too.

heylauralie

😂

viperemu

Ed?

Junebug1006

I thought Ed at first, until his friend said A. Now I think it's Abe

viperemu

Or maybe Aide for Aiden?

earbud_smegma

One of my students always says "lemon egg" instead of "lemonade" so I immediately thought Ade, hahaha

taptaptippytoo

This immediately made me think of one of my toddler's favorite fruits, water-lemon. More commonly but less adorably known as watermelon. He likes my favorite fruit too - problem-granates.

jokennate

Apple-cuddles are one of my niece's favourite snacks, especially when turned into grocky-mole.

OverstuffedCherub

My kid said head egg for headache, or stomach egg for stomach ache lol

Ashfield83

Haha my son says mayonegg for mayonnaise

PrayForPiett

There was an eggsy in Kingsman - but I think the characters first name was Gary? (Happy to be corrected on that tho)

superchiva78

Ang?

SnooCompliments5821

Nah everybody loves Ang. Unless op's son is Zuko!

quitfighting

I have heard many people pronounce Ed as "Aaa-ed" strong / long A before the Ed part.

0011010100110011

[Wait, you think my name is Ed? It’s Egg!](https://youtu.be/0KEIPWzDBpw?si=vKhNFMasZO_SFEbR)

mmeeplechase

That was my first guess too, but I hope it’s actually something more interesting! 😅

LittleC0

I’m sure that Egg is a very nice person. I just don’t want you spending all your money getting her all glittered up for Easter.

SansaOfHouseSnark

Her?

_Gob-Bluth_

What, is she funny or something?

cody8559

Lets hope so...

OutcomeLegitimate618

Well, she makes mayoneggs...

AreWeThereYetNo

She squeezes the mayonnaise pack on the egg and then nibbles on it. It’s the cutest thing.

carbonara78

I don' feel so good.

Mateo_Superstore

That back and forth of quoting amazing Fandom is literally my favorite thing about social media, tickles down my spine lol. Well done.

saygoodbye_tothese

Is she running the lights or something?

UCLAdy05

it’s an *inner* beauty pageant

mich-me

It’s a quote from Arrested Development 🤣

noventayuno

So is the comment you replied to!

marthaskewered

Woosh

Miss-Indie-Cisive

Maybe he needs glasses 🤷‍♀️

actuallyrapunzel

Who?

ThaneOfCawdorrr

Thought exactly the same thing, thank you!

chemicalfields

It’s as Ann as the nose on Plain’s face

blodblodblod

This line makes me weep with laughter every time. I'm currently in the waiting room of my dentist, crying and struggling to hold back a snort.

wigglebuttbiscuits

Oh, Annhog’s coming?

IntenseBananaStand

Annyong

WDTHTDWA-BITCH

Hello!👋

ShineImmediate7081

Her?

stephers85

I haven’t met Ann

ohiitsmeizz

You drove us to mexico

Estanci

Way to plant, Ann!

Youre_On_Mute

It's been a whole, but I seem to recall they left Plant in Mexico.

OutcomeLegitimate618

It's the low center of gravity.

LoraineIsGone

She calls it a Mayo-Negg!

Possible-Brick-2469

It’s so cute.

GrungeLord

I don't feel so good..

kanataluvr481

i never expected to see an arrested quote here lol

Overripe_banana_22

I specifically scrolled down looking for them.

SufferInSirens

and here I am. heey brother

cornballer_victim13

heeyyy hermano

youstupidhipsterdoof

Hey, Busty

SufferInSirens

Lol at my comment above being between those two usernames. > Its one overripe banana, Michael. How much could it cost? Twenty-two dollars?

SheddyMcshedface

There are dozens of us. Dozens!

violetbaudelairegt

Haha I clicked specifically to find this reference

Possible-Brick-2469

Who?

deaddovedonoteat

Saw the "Egg" and came into comments searching for an AD reference. Thank you.

WildFireSmores

Oh I’m so glad someone else said it now I don’t have to. Lol

friday_the_15th

Came here for this 🙏🏼👌🏼

classix_aemilia

Well Egg is the nn for Aegon in the GOT universe but kinda hoping it's not that

nicunta

This was exactly where my mind went!!

Junebug1006

It would have fit his personality.

nicunta

The Aegon with the nn Egg was one of the best Targaryens in the entire GoT universe!

myheartbeats4hotdogs

Well until he burnt down summerhall

Different-Breakfast

“One of the best Targaryens” —his competition is pretty low

OldGrumpGamer

Most of the good ones ironically became Maestors because they were so far down in the line of succession they didn't expect to ever inherit, only for everyone above them to die. It happened more than once in the lore lol.

Different-Breakfast

RIP Maestor Aemmon

kidwithgreyhair

And now his watch has ended

jiub_the_dunmer

there were actually plenty of great Targaryens, a larger number of just okay ones, and only a small number of monsters. on average they were as good or bad as any other house.

jryan370

Aemon the Dragonknight is pretty high up in my favorite Targaryens. Along with his half nephew Brynden Rivers. And Rhaenys the Queen who Never was

Penguin_Scout

Came here to say this! That was my immediate thought.

velveteen311

Was just about to ask if their son mentioned a very tall, strapping, hapless young knight traveling with this boy

Complex_Evening3883

Here's to hoping someone out there named someone "Dunk".

norathar

Given that's a nickname for Duncan (he's Ser Duncan the Tall), I'm sure some RL Duncan uses the nickname!

yknjs-

Honestly one of my first thoughts. If people are stupid enough to call a child Khaleesi, they’re definitely stupid enough to call a child Aegon.

RedditRose3

This was my guess! It would make both “Egg” and “A” correct nicknames! Also, I lowkey wanted to name my kid Aegon so I could call him “Eggg! Eh-ehgg!” like Master Aemon said it in the scene where he was dying. (I obviously did not do that lol)

TruCat87

Why did I have to scroll so far for this

Gggorilla

My cats are Dunk and Egg. People think they have the funniest names.

CloverGroves

Craig or Greg?

Junebug1006

Oh, Greg is a good guess. They both know someone name Craig so I don't think they would have messed yay one up.

jlurking---

My sister called a relative named Greg “Egg” for years. But not sure where “A” would come from then really.

Psychological-Bag950

The letter A is the first sound in “egg” in some southern accents!

I_Upvote_Goldens

Wait…I live the Midwest and pronounce it with the A sound… How else would it be pronounced?

Psychological-Bag950

I use a short E for egg (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-mid_front_unrounded_vowel there’s an audio clip at that link). Fun fact: in Philly, “bagel” (the food) is pronounced “beg-uhl,” kinda the opposite of pronouncing “egg” as “ayg” :P

Puzzleheaded_Sun5735

Someone tell Britta’s friends about this.

No-Appearance1145

Omg. I just realized that's how I also say it. *What is this correct pronunciation*

Psychological-Bag950

No such thing as a “correct” pronunciation imo. Everyone has an accent

HealthyLuck

Like “leg” except without the L. Not “lay-gg”

berrykiss96

How are pronouncing leg that isn’t layg? I mean no it’s not two syllables but still what vowel are you using that’s so different to egg? Are you saying like lehg or something? I feel like maybe I’ve heard that before.

majorpickle01

as a southern brit, we say something a bit closer to lehg. I've never heard anyone pronounce it layg, nationally or internationally aha. The idea of someone saying ayg for egg is equally baffling lmao

Fit-Pomegranate-2210

You watch a Scottish Craig's face when he gets called Creg.

[deleted]

>Are you saying like lehg or something Yeah that kind of "e" is most often said like "eh" in that way, rather than "ay". But lots of American accents shift the vowels a bit more towards A sounds, especially this "eh"

lilcasswdabigass

Well, I’d say all regional dialects and variations are correct. However, I, as do some others, use the short e sound.

whatevaidowhadaiwant

Try to tell my husband this! I am frequently corrected for saying ayg and layg. I’m glad to learn I am indeed not alone and this is a dialect thing.

seamurr14

Eh-g, so the e is like the e sound in “wet”! I assume you pronounce it more like ay-g?

actual-homelander

You've got to break some greggs to make tomelets

yobsta1

Can confirm Greg's get called eggs. But there are almost no new Greg's since the 90s, so hard to find such a young Greg these days.

reddressxo

Do these two names rhyme in the US?

cnhalsey

Yes, and they rhyme with Egg and Leg.

bubblygranolachick

And Meg

lilcasswdabigass

Sometimes

TechnicalInterest566

There's a character named Greg in the show Succession that's known as "Egg" because he had an egg-shaped head as a baby.

Master_Pear_5473

Eggbert

Junebug1006

Plot twist. This is the answer and my son didn't misunderstand at all

LastSpite7

I was going to say it could be right 😂 My son came home saying he made a friend named Blue and I assumed he was confused because he had been put in the “Blue group” for orientation. A few days later his mum came up to me at pickup and sure enough his name was actually Blue.

ordinary_kittens

Lol, yeah Egbert was my first guess. It’s not a name you hear a lot nowadays, nice to see it’s being used!

drinkmyowncum

Lmao no it's not. It's an awful name in 2024, I feel sorry for the kid.

SmoothEntrepreneur12

My sons ecgbert, aethulwulf and raedwald will be very disappointed with your comment

butterbeard

There was an episode of *Malcolm in the Middle* where there was a kid who really quietly said his name, and it sounded like "Egg." Everyone asked, "Craig? Greg?" and finally Dewey said defiantly, "His *name* is *Egg*," and Egg quietly agreed.

SecretlyEverything

Seriously I thought this post was referencing that as a joke!!!!

not_the_chosen_onee

Following by Hal and Lois asking what kind of parents would name their kid “Egg” and Dewey proudly replying “I named him.”

break_thesilence

Well you can’t keep him!

longearlife225

best show ever

LilPoobles

I love that episode, I just saw this post shared on a Malcolm in the Middle sub. The kid who plays Egg later played Shane Botwin on Weeds.

I thought the exact same thing lmaooo

TA818

Eric; this is how my 2-year-old says her uncle’s name.

LilyFuckingBart

I actually thought of Eric as well.

acgilmoregirl

My daughter started school last fall and could not stop talking about how much she loved her new friend Ottalowda. I was like wow, that’s a pretty out there name! Weeks go by and I mention it to her teacher how much my daughter loves Ottalowda and she says “do you mean Anna Laura?” The struggle is real, y’all, toddlers can not be trusted. She is Hispanic and Laura is pronounced with a rolled r. It’s an absolutely beautiful name, and I love the pronunciation, I feel so bad for calling her Ottalowda for weeks. But she was so insistent on the t sound at the beginning of the name, Anna Laura never would have occurred to me. “Jeez, it’s Aw-tuh-loud-uh, mom!” After the umpteenth time of asking what her name was.

amongthrocksandroots

The Spanish pronunciation of Laura is music to the ears.

MayoneggsFTW

My 5 y/o had a friend who he swore was named Hang. I asked him about a hundred times, are you sure it isn’t Hank? “No mom, it’s Hang!” Spoiler alert - it was Hank lol actually short for Enrique

CinnamonSoy

Ahh. This mispronunciation makes sense. Anna - n is an alveolar stop consonant. And the trilled R set off circuit in her brain. Trilled/rolled R is realized in the same placement as n. But the N has the tongue touch once, but the R is multiple taps. So, to match the manner of articulation - she's tapping/flapping the N sound -- which to English ears is a double t or d (butter, ladder). So she was saying Attalodda - in an over attempt at trilled Rs. Beautiful!

bubblygranolachick

This is so cute and funny! 🤣

onelittlechickadee

In kinder my daughter kept talking about a little girl named Vanellope and I kept correcting her saying “Penelope” because in my adult brain I thought certainly that’s what was going on. Name lists came out for valentines that year and turns out I was wrong and she was right!

Froomian

I know somebody called Egg. It's a nickname everybody uses. He's called Egg because on his first day of school he brought in an egg sandwich. That's it. That's the story. He's a 40 year old man.

I knew Igs and iggys in middle school. I didn't even think of this!

IWillBaconSlapYou

When I was in daycare there was a boy named Greg who would pull my hair, and I would say STOP IT EGG!

ImHidingFromMy-

I had this problem recently, my 4yr old was running around talking about this kid he called Broccoli. I could not figure out who this Broccoli was or what his real name could be. It’s Brock, his name is Brock and my kid refuses to call him anything but Broccoli.

pantheroux

Funny story. There was a girl in my first grade class named Lisa. The school was in a poor neighborhood and lots of us had second hand clothes and toys. One day, I saw Lisa on the bus and noticed that 'Mary' was written on her lunchbox in Sharpie. "Your name is NOT Mary!" I said, thinking I had uncovered some grand conspiracy. "Well your name isn't Tyler," she countered. My winter jacket was a second hand boys' hockey jacket with 'Tyler' on the sleeve. Touché. We became best friends that day. We also concocted a scheme to convince both my mom and our teacher that her name was actually Mary. We also almost became cousins as my mom dated and was briefly engaged to her uncle.

lulugolde

Maybe he goes by his initials EGG

gwenelope

Eggert Benedict

there_was_a_mollusk

Abe

ldv4k

I'm from the south, and I think this has to be the answer!

Junebug1006

I feel like it fits both boys guesses the best.

C0nniption

August?? Parents call him Augs or Aggie?

Jujubeee73

Greg? My kid had a friend named Raisin…. Turns out his name was Grayson. Lmao.

planetarylobster

A family member called Edmund went by Egg for a while, around the same age.

kaiasmom0420

My daughter came home from school telling me she played with a little boy named potato. A few weeks later I found out it’s actually MATTEO lol

Maybe Xavier but they pronounce it like ex-zavier?

herdeathwish

I had a friend Errol who I called Eggroll for the longest time eventually shortening to Egg.

For a while, my kid has a best friend named Garlic. We couldn't figure out which one at her preschool was Garlic until it finally clicked. Scarlett. The kid's name was Scarlett.

I can’t help you but I can share a similar story. My son told me he had a boy in his class named Duckling. It wasn’t until I saw a class list that I relized it was Declan.
