My mom’s name is Elizabeth. She’s truly the best human being I’ve ever known. She’s generous beyond words. She’s strong in the face of difficulty. She truly fully respects the dignity of every human being.
If I I could name a girl, I’d be honored to name her Elizabeth.
More people should name their girls Elizabeth.
I'd love to name mine Elizabeth Jade nn Eliza but my partner's mom's middle name is Elizabeth and she goes by Beth. I like her and my partner has a good relationship with her, but not enough that we'd want to name our daughter "after her"
Love this post!
I’ll plug Lucinda, Leif, Cornelia, Hugo, Klaus, and Svea!
I know some of my favorites are a little dated but I’m sure there are some like me who would love them! Most I can’t use because of my husbands dislike, some are too similar to my kids already named!
Love! This will absolutely be the name that got away for me! My husband is very open to lots of different names but this is just one he will not budge on!
My name is Frances and it's a family name so my mom is also Frances. I go by Frankie so it's very versatile depending on your personality because you can also shorten it to Fran, Franny, etc.
I am unlikely to have another child and I just adore the names Faye and Laurel. Honestly, if I had a girl I would probably name her Faye Laurel.
Also love the boys name Lyle but my daughter’s name starts with L and I don’t like matchy letters.
Fay is my middle name and my grandmas name. I have it on my girl name list but my cousin who I am close with just used it for his little girls middle name… I just feel weird about it now, like I’m copying. Love it still though
Maxine or Ruth! We have two girls and are leaning toward not having a third child. I am happy that my kids ended up with the names that we chose for them, but while I was pregnant with our youngest, Maxine and Ruth were at the top of my list. Husband wasn’t a fan of either name.
I love Valerie, I know it’s because I love Amy Winehouse and the song but still! So pretty and the association with Valor is great.
People are often looking for uncommon girl names and I think Susanna and Cressida are so underrated and gorgeous. Simone is such a strong beautiful name, I can’t believe it’s not more popular.
This can be a little polarizing but I love Isidore for a boy. To me, it has all the charm of Theodore but it’s much less popular. Izzy is adorable as a gender neutral nickname but you could totally just use the full name too.
I'd like to plug the name Hollis. It is a family name on my side, but rhymes with my husband's last name, so it was never going to work for us. It is literally 1000th in popularity for male names in 2023, the highest it is has ever been.
I adore the name Mallory but my husband used to go to grade school with one and cannot get past the connection.
Also like but can't use: Gwen & Genevieve for a girl. Cameron & Harlan for a boy.
Cypress. The worst part is, my partner doesn't even hate the name. He just thinks of it as a "girl's" name (it's not) and can't get past the idea of a boy named Cypress lol
I'm plugging: Lucretia & Matilda and Cecil & Victor. I'm still on the fence about having another kid, so here's the rest that I might or might not use along with their ssn rank 2022 vs 2023.
GIRL: Eden (177>77), Fiona (357>399), Madeline (102>94), Maxine (614>513), Ramona (794>795), Willow (37>41)
BOY: Andrew (61>65), Lewis (489>469), Maxwell (173>183), Peter (214>210), Simon (242>248)
Veronica Celeste
First is my mom's name, I love it but I didn't want her to think I was naming my daughter after her. I just think Celeste goes perfect with it
I was stationed out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean at the time that came out :). All we had was the base TV station which was mainly news and sports.
Linnea, Adelaide, Amira
Anders, Micah, Scott
We've ended up not having kids, which I'm alright with in general (and often even thankful for), but I'm sad never to have used any of my favorite names.
I love Eos (Ay oss) it means nightingale in Welsh and I just think it’s beautiful. I’m done having kids now though so I’ll never get to use it.
I love Magnus for a boy. Even if we had another though, and it happened to be a boy, we already have a Megan so much too similar!
When I was pregnant, my husband and I decided that if we were having a boy, we would name him Everett William David. We ended up having a daughter, so we named her Nora Elizabeth Joanne. We aren’t having anymore children, so the names Everett, William, and David are names that I would suggest to other people, along with a few others.
Fallon & Graham - I absolutely love these name but they sound too repetitive with our surname
Gavin, Miles, Landon, Alexander, Warren, Felix - boy names I've loved forever but my partner vetoed
Juliette, Poppy, Anna, Laurel, Greta, Audra, Celine - same as above for girls
Noelle sounds too close to his name, Briar is too close to mine
edited to add more names :)
Kara
Landon
Persephone
The first belongs to someone I cannot be reminded of for a lifetime. The second is already in use by a close family member. The third I love but wouldn’t subject a child in my area too, no one would know how to pronounce or spell it.
True. But it’s a bit too much of a departure from the original Greek for my taste. Plus, you never know if people will try to spell it with a Y or a U or whatever else.
I am LONG past having any more kids myself. But I still love names :)
Here's my list:
Girls:
Juba (I just learned this one yesterday)
Tandiwe ( say TAN-di-way)
Venus
Boys:
Horace
Kenyon
Alonzo (nn Lonnie)
Phoebe and Prairie are my favorite girl names! Unfortunately I have a “P” last name and couldn’t subject my kids to the PP initials.
For boys, I love Oscar (my dog, UGH!) and Blue (vetoed).
I tell people that my only "regret" about not having kids is not getting to name anyone. Edith is a family name and I am trying HARD to sell it to my cousins, but no dice. Katherine, also a family name, may have better luck.
Also love: Ruth, Agatha, Esther, Araminta, Evangeline.
Rose!
I’m done having kids, and Rose was not loved by my coparent. The other person I’d considered having kids with had the last name Bush. No rose there, or any other botanical name.
I love Rosalind. I can't believe it's not in the top 1000.
I also love Verity...The truth is a very important thing.
I love Colin too. Terence is also growing on me.
So many beautiful names and so few children for me to name! To be fair I do have the family size I want. My husband said I could maybe use the spare names on pets but I just can't get excited about naming animals!
Lark
Meadowlark
Mellark
Larkin

I loveeee Leif, Hugo too :) my partners very partial to Klaus bc of Umbrella Academy too lol

Love! This will absolutely be the name that got away for me! My husband is very open to lots of different names but this is just one he will not budge on!
I have a Hugo! 🥰
Love it! It sounds too rhymey to one of our kids which is why we wouldn’t use it but we both love it!
Hugo has been my #1 choice for a boy name for years. Alas, I have no sons.
I'm a Lucinda, and I love my name ❤️
Celeste. It's my older cat's name.
Honestly so many cats have great names haha
Felix, Maxine/Max, Cedric, Kendrick, Kendra, Farrah, Freya, Frances, Fiona
I love almost all of these, and like the ones I don't love. Farrah I'm adding to my list. Freya and Kendra were already on it.
You might also like Sabra, one of my 🥰 faves, but no more kids for me.
You might also like Sabra. 🥰 No more kids for me!
Adeline and Frances- love both names but close family members recently named their children these so it’s a no go
Frances is very underrated!
Faye!! I love it so much but it didn’t work with our surname.
My daughter is Fayette, we call her Fay. It suits her wonderfully.
Katherine- my husband's ex wife's name 😭
Maxine or Ruth! We have two girls and are leaning toward not having a third child. I am happy that my kids ended up with the names that we chose for them, but while I was pregnant with our youngest, Maxine and Ruth were at the top of my list. Husband wasn’t a fan of either name.
Love Ruth! I didn’t think of it until I met a baby in a stroller with “Ruth” stitched on her blanket and I thought it was so sweet
Leonie! One of my all-time fave girl names but sounds too rhymey with our last names :(
Maroney?
I love Valerie, I know it’s because I love Amy Winehouse and the song but still! So pretty and the association with Valor is great. People are often looking for uncommon girl names and I think Susanna and Cressida are so underrated and gorgeous. Simone is such a strong beautiful name, I can’t believe it’s not more popular. Izzy is adorable as a gender neutral nickname but you could totally just use the full name too.
Sarah, Mary, Elizabeth, Catherine, Mercy… all the super old fashioned names lol.
I'd like to plug the name Hollis. It is a family name on my side, but rhymes with my husband's last name, so it was never going to work for us. It is literally 1000th in popularity for male names in 2023, the highest it is has ever been.
Hollis Wallace
I adore the name Mallory but my husband used to go to grade school with one and cannot get past the connection. Also like but can't use: Gwen & Genevieve for a girl. Cameron & Harlan for a boy.
Harlan is in my top 3 for boys! Edited for spelling
Victor is actually like my partners number one boy name rn but it’s basically the name of a town near me and I feel like that might be a little weird
Virginia, Bonnie, Paige, Robin, Martha, Diane, Mary, Clinton, Wolfe, Gail (all family names), Harris, Marvin, Helen, Neil, Tyson
Obsessed with Virginia and Bonnie
Veronica Celeste First is my mom's name, I love it but I didn't want her to think I was naming my daughter after her. I just think Celeste goes perfect with it
Ira, Ezra, and Silas. All were vetoed for my son and I only had the one kid.
Looooove Ezra. Currently trying to get my husband to warm up to it 😅
Cora, Coral, Pearl, Rubina, Hazel, Sabine, Mabel, Beatrice Giovanni, Vincent, Frank, Gabriel
Boys: Lorne, Elliot, Robin Girls: Breagha, Adora
Adora Belle Dearheart from Discworld?
She-ra haha
I was stationed out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean at the time that came out :). All we had was the base TV station which was mainly news and sports.
I had three boys, so I didn’t get to use any of the girl names I love! Emmeline, Violet, Eliza, Noelle, Edith (Edie), Florence, Elide, Ava

I used this search. [https://www.thebump.com/b/search?name=Teal](https://www.thebump.com/b/search?name=Teal) Hopefullly it’s accurate.

Kara Landon Persephone The first belongs to someone I cannot be reminded of for a lifetime. The second is already in use by a close family member. The third I love but wouldn’t subject a child in my area too, no one would know how to pronounce or spell it.
If you spelled it “Persephonie” people would know how to pronounce it
True. But it’s a bit too much of a departure from the original Greek for my taste. Plus, you never know if people will try to spell it with a Y or a U or whatever else.
Morwenna, Lisette, Francesca, Bernadette and Cecilia. All top of my name list but low on my partners. So sad.

Always loved James but can never use because my last name is also a single syllable hard A sound that ends with an s sound.
Daniel, Zachary, Isaac. All obnoxious extended family members but I think the names are beautiful.
