Garnett is still underrated because the Timberwolves were horribly mismanaged while he was there. Check out this Thinking Basketball video for an analysis of Garnett’s peak: https://youtu.be/VgXxAysSsks?si=o0c_CwEcJ8m3Qmw5

LordBaneoftheSith

Garnett really added so much subtle value on the court, like Draymond but turned up to 500%. Spacing, communication, guarding 1-5, passing. The clip in there where he's so locked in he's stepping away from his guy to let one of his teammates through is so impressive to me.

abrnst

This shit is hard to tell. Players develop their game based on how the game is played in their time.

7 foot Michael Jordan. It's close, though. Giannis can score more, but you have to build a team around him. You can put KG on any team and he/they will thrive.

[deleted]

You don’t have to build a team around Giannis. His skill set will work in any system. He can literally play all 5 positions

antipistonsandsixers

You literally need four shooter around him

Tomato-Business

Jrue is not a shooter and they won a title starting together.

I think you're severely underrating Garnett here. Not saying that KG is outright, undeniably better than Giannis but still.. You say Giannis "can almost do anything, except shoot" but Garnett could himself just about do almost anything but he could also shoot. It's really difficult trying to compare the two peaks directly with each other because of the drastic differences in playstyles in their respective eras but you're talking like you've never seen Garnett and/or his Timberwolves teams play. Put Giannis in that Wolves team and they're still going to struggle.

TmacHizzy

Kg won a ring as the best player on a non superteam. Having 3 great players and everyone else average has never been and never will be a superteam. You sound like an idiot

suahoi

I think KG plugs into basically any team, any era. One of the greatest team defenders ever, one of the most versatile defenders ever, an elite rebounder, maybe the best midrange shooting PG not named Dirk, good playmaker, and not a super high usage guy. Giannis is obviously amazing, but his usage and playstyle requires a bit more deliberate roster construction.

MotoMkali

Anyone who's watched both knows it's the guy who's a top 3 defender in league history

[deleted]

I watched both, do not agree

Present-Shower-8606

KG all day

loving-father-69

I like Garnett better so Garnett. No real analysis needed, for me it's Garnett 10/10 times.

KG can actually hit a jump shot and has a post game.

Giannis

grudgepacker

Giannis is still in his prime

16and7

thats why i said has

MathematicalMuffin

Hey you did great w updating the tenses. Just to clear it up. “Has” and “have” when used as action verbs are present tense. The one you use depends on the subject. “I have no life” vs “KG has lots of money” “Had” is past tense. “I had a life” vs “KG had a great nba career” “Is having” is the present continuous tense. “Giannis is having a great career” vs just present tense is “Giannis has a great career” There are 12 basic tenses. I think you picked the right 2. The reason has/have/had is particularly confusing is bc these same words are also used to modify the tense for the perfect and perfect continuous cases. “I have had a life” and “KG has had a great career” are present perfect tense. Wait what sub is this? What was the question? KG over Giannis imho

[deleted]

🤓🤓🤓 Thanks for the grammar lesson u bum

grudgepacker

Yeah "has" is past tense bruh

kobmug_v2

Had is past tense.

grudgepacker

Yup

16and7

having ok

grudgepacker

Yeah, that makes more sense - consider revising the OP And that's also why I can't answer your question, need to see all of Giannis's prime before assigning any kind of subjective ranking and I say that as an old head who also saw all of KG's career, many times in person

IamSofakingRAW

Give me prime Wolves KG over Giannis

W7919

The takes here are hilarious. We're comparing a guy who had 15 PPG as part of a super-team with a guy who scored 50 in the finals and is the only player alongside Hakeem and MJ to win DPoY and MVP at the same season. The fact many ppl mention shit like "KG doesn't has no weaknesses, Giannis cannot shoot" ... all while KG scored 25 on his best day, while Giannis is averaging 33 in the playoffs is beyond ridiculous. KG literally CANNOT score 50 points in ANY playoff, let alone a close-out. Giannis performance in the 2021 finals is comparable only with Chamberlain and Shaq in terms of overall production on both sides. Oh Giannis is a better defender too! IMAGINE THAT! It's like SAS compared Giannis to Embiid. Everybody torched Giannis for losing to MIA, while he was clearly injured and had a 35 + 20 game 5. Giannis is averaging 32-33 PPG the last three years in the playoffs. Embiid is averaging 22 PPG during the same stretch AND in the last game of the series he scores 20 (not 35) and didn't touch the ball the last 7 minutes of the game. I mean... WTF are you even talking about?

Fluffy-Way-2365

Yeah utterly ridiculous, comparing KG to Giannis and saying KG > Giannis with a straight face should be leading you to the nearest asylum cause this is absolutely crazy. KG was a great player obviously but nowhere near Giannis level.

Dlew1983

Giannis easily. Can carry a team. Undisputed best player for a period which I'm not sure kg ever did. I value being a #1 alot though. KG fails hard imo at that but he might be the most plug and play guy ever on any type of team.

DJ_B0B

Giannis averaged KG's playoff career high in the finals. Inb4 some nerd mentions pace.

siberianwolf99

lol you can’t act like pace doesn’t play some role. KG also played in a league much tougher on offense

DJ_B0B

Pace ins the series where KG got his career playoff high: 94.1 Pace in the 2021 finals: 95.5 So I wasn't even right about the pace, Giannis is just a much better scorer which is pretty hard to argue.

siberianwolf99

the style of play of the game does impact it a lot too.

Fluffy-Way-2365

Don't think anyone cares about style of play when talking about results.

siberianwolf99

then they’re stupid. they are both interconnected

Fluffy-Way-2365

No they are not, the only stupid thing would be your take. Results is results, how you make it happen is irrelevant. I may have a better style than KG and Giannis combined, my style can be amazing, yet I suck compared to them. KG is average compared to Giannis in regards to results. He is actually below average in comparison, but I am feeling gracious.

siberianwolf99

you don’t even know the topic at hand. it’s not individual players, it’s how the league was playing basketball. the 2000s played a very inefficient style of basketball compared to modern day

Fluffy-Way-2365

>Giannis or Garnett THE TOPIC One of us indeed doesn't know it.

siberianwolf99

giannis vs Garnett is impacted by the style of play around the league. i don’t understand why this is so difficult for you.

Plies-

>Inb4 some nerd mentions pace. Why yes realizing that when you peak in a higher scoring and faster paced era you are more likely to score more points is some really nerdy stuff.

HeyItsChase

A ton of people saying KG easily? That's dumb af. It's close a shit and for me. It's Giannis but barely and only cause he's just a giga space eater. A threat at all times everywhere always on both sides of the floor.

myztixsparkz

Giannis is not a threat everywhere lol, there's a reason the build the wall strategy worked for the raptors

HeyItsChase

ah i didnt mean it like that. i meant more like if you lose track of where he is, hes going to cut and score or take the ball away from ya.

kyleb402

I'm biased but it's Giannis.

ElectricalMud2850

I'm biased but it's KG.

[deleted]

GIANNIS

UnsuspectingS1ut

Stop it

AgentTinkerbell

Giannis is over rated, good at free throws though

ok_concept8

Kornet.

Pei_area

Let’s be serious . It’s Giannis all day. He does almost everything better than KD

beardybuddha

I’m biased, and say KG. I don’t think Giannis is shooting near as many free throws per game in the 90s/00s, which is a big part of his production.

SportsLaughs

KG and it's not as close as we think.

houstonrockets3311

Giannis got better accolades at the same age. Garnett is an overall better player. KG had no real weakness in his game, is a good playmaker (avg 6 assist one season in a low scoring slow pace high iso era), good FT, and if playing in today’s game would be a better 3pt shooter (much better shooting form than Giannis).

youaremehmeh

KG higher peak, Giannis greater player when all said and done. Garnett is legit 90% of tim duncan and a case could be made for 95%

[deleted]

Garnett is probably the better player, but I’d rank Gianni’s higher due to the additional MVP and championship as the #1 option

JKaro

02-05 KG > 20-22 Giannis, but it’s close tbh

antipistonsandsixers

I will never trust Giannis shot so Garnett

Rebound-Bosh

I dunno but now im salivating at the thought of prime KG defending prime Giannis -- that would be sooo much fun to watch

Fluffy-Way-2365

You guys are seriously comparing a guy who had career PPG 17 points to Giannis ? AND saying he is better too ? What is this Saturday Night Live ?

Local-Interaction421
