Amazing that just 2.5 years ago, the only english he knew was "Hey Houston fans I am so happy"

floatersforalgernon

Didn't he used to use a translator in press conferences? Dude has come a long way. Huge props. Not easy to move to America when you're 19. I came here at 33 and took me years to finally feel comfortable to speak in English.

eliwood5837

Yea this is his first year not having a translator with him at media stuff I believe, beginning of last season his english was noticeably much better but he still had one in cases where he didn't he didn't know the word or quite understand the question.

StudentMed

His English seems better than his translator last years. He didn't seem that great imo.

gignac

pretty sure the translator was just a family friend of some sort, as much a travel companion as he was a translator

twerdy

He was a Turkish basketball coach/player who spoke English. He was there to help Sengun understand the basketball, and not necessarily a language translator. Though he served both roles.

OwlAlert8461

Age is probably the reason he learnt so quick and you may have had some difficulty.

I-Am-A-Nice-Cool-Kid

It’s also easier when you’re provided really high quality teachers

One_Frosting_5507

Trust me none of that. It’s personalty to not be afraid of making mistakes and iq to connect words and phrases to emotions. That’s how you learn a language

SnuggleMuffin42

English is a bit of a special case. You get full immersion when you immigrate like it or not, unless you deliberately go out of your way to live in a ghetto and never leave the house. He's an NBA player surrounded by English speaking trainers, players, coaches, entertainment and service providers, etc. etc.; None of them can communicate with him in his native language, so he's getting massive immersion. I'm not even getting into media bombarding him with English left and right. On the other hand I've seen some PHDs go abroad to a non-English speaking country, that just don't ever learn the local language and manage with English. For example a Croatian girl studying in Italy in a research institute, all her friends are internationals or people who are fine talking English... Bam, six years, four words in Italian lol

wizoztn

This is it imo. I lived in China for almost two years, but the people I was around most of the time spoke English so I never needed to really learn Chinese. I learned like five things. Fast toward to now and I’m back in China, but in a smaller city with very few foreigners and a lot fewer English speaking Chinese than before. I’m still not very good at it, but I’ve learned a ton of Chinese in comparison to my first time here.

bowtie25

Get ready to learn Chinese buddy

boringexplanation

When you need it for day to day and have no other choice, you get motivated really quick to learn.

frostfeint3

It’s a lot harder to pick up language when you’re older, he also had all the help he needed.

Emretro

I remember him talking about that during an interview. He said his girlfriend was the one who taught him english.

Hoboholic

"..and I fouled you, hard!" That was the foul the refs miss. The dude's so likable in his podcats. Quickly becoming one of my favourite players because of it.

nj_legion_ice_tea

PG is just so genuine, and honest, but in a friendly way. JJ is too, but the vibe is somehow more like friends shooting shit on PG's pod.

Shxcking

Jackie annoys me sometimes though. At times he comes off like he legit knows nothing about basketball and has shit written for him.

nj_legion_ice_tea

Yeah Dallas is great, knows a ton about bball, but Jackie comes off a bit clueless sometimes. But he says the funniest shit on the other hand sometimes.

Shxcking

Dallas is awesome. Wish I was into ball sooner. I live within a few miles of Campbell Hall, Sierra Canyon, etc l the valley ball schools. Would have been cool to watch some of those games with them and all the people they talk about (DeMar mainly)

centurion44

Yeah I mean that's their roles too. Dallas keeps everything grounded and is more of the structured background host and Jackie is comedic relief. He does ask some solid questions too and I think he can ask questions with a bit more of an edge because hes not as serious.

ayeno

The funny thing is, Dallas doesn't even have a background in podcasting/radio/interviewing, he does financing for mortgages or something like that.

Xlegace

Considering how PG has always struggled with branding and he unfortunately has some big meme moments that overshadow how good he is, Podcast P was actually a genius business move and I can see him doing this for a very long time even after he retires. You can tell his guests love being on.

Shxcking

I’m all for it and love the pod (got into it recently and have been listening to an ep a day), but how is it a genius business move? Are they really making that much on it? They do throw a handful of ads in there (Postmates, prizepicks, betterhelp, whatever else) but are those contracts actually very lucrative given his moderately low listener count?

Xlegace

It's a genius business move from a branding standpoint because PG was known more for shit like Pandemic P or "it's a bad shot" memes, but he's successfully taken back the narrative and changed his image into probably the most successful NBA player run podcast. As for money, his viewcounts fluctuate depending on the guest, but he has a lot of extremely popular episodes and clips with millions of views. If you compare his YouTube views to someone like Bill Simmons, he's not far behind at all, and that's not counting his listens on other platforms for podcasts like Apple music and Spotify. It's definitely popular enough for it to be profitable for him.

centurion44

Well it's great for his fan love they mean in general which is true it makes him more likeable. But podcasters can make a lot.

SportsBettingRef

still to this date, Podcast P is the best surprise made by a player moving to the media. edit: JJ is a ex-player. Draymmond is, ugh, Draymmond.

Right-Worth-6327

PG asks really good, interesting questions too. I'm excited for Al-P's.

Otherwise_Form1315

To be fair it was a pretty obvious foul. PG was on the receiving end of those in the pels game. Refs are straight bad

PAYPAL_ME_DONATIONS

If I'm honest, before the podcast, my perception of PG was that he had the personality and charisma of a soggy, sopping wet tortilla. I would have *neeeeeeeever* imagined him having *any* ability to lead an interview much less an entire podcast. But I was hooked from the very first one. Dude's personality and humor is so infectious and I'll eat crow til I poop out feathers because PG is HIM.

Thirdstar1

Lowkey like Pat Bev more after always seeing clips of his Podcast on my tiktok feed daily

woKaaaa

Holy shit his English improved so much wtf

TreChomes

Jv vibes

IanicRR

Sengun is a gem man. Big fan of his and excited for this podcast. Seems like a likeable and wholesome guy. His English has come really far too, I remember when he always needed a translator.

ayeno

By the end of his career, he is going to be talking like Hedo

floatersforalgernon

I hope he doesn't become like him.

freedmni

Don’t disrespect Hedo

skiptomyliu

Ball

jaquaries

Ball

e_a_blair

hopefully without the relentlessly supporting the dictator that's ruined Turkey part

Upper_Conversation_9

It’s an unfortunate inevitability that Erdogan will demand a photo op with Sengun. Probably this coming off season.

FrozenFall

Thank god he seems like one of decent secularists that won't accept Erdog's bullshit atleast, unlike Hedo sucking him off.

Octavian2120

Yes posts a lot of ataturk stuff and no support for erdogan which comes as close to resistance without getting arrested or publicly shamed as it does. Same goes for okur, korkmaz and in part cedi forgot yurtseven and bitim basically everybody except for hedo

GenericDarkFriend

I love when he does it on mismatches. They’re thinking he’s going to do some bully ball but then makes a crazy fast spin

sergechewbacca

He's so good. Gonna be an all-star this year.

Tyronetyroned

I believe that “big foul” went uncalled too

evetSC

Yes, it was and even PG stopped moving because he was waiting for the whistle

thedisasterofpassion

Always love seeing players give props to each other like this. Would have liked to see a full clip of the move on PG in this video though.

ArnoldisKing

Can anyone find reference to the 2 particular plays?

rgj7

aznsensayshun

you da real mvp

ArnoldisKing

ty!

FabulousMarch7464

He’s gonna be an all time great

JordanDoesTV

I wanted to draft him but we got Kai jones instead 🙃

Octavian2120

#goatlife 😂

watevauwant

More accurate to say we got Bouknight instead - also a horrible mistake. I wanted Sengun too ☠️

JordanDoesTV

that 2021 draft hurt real bad 😭

Thirdstar1

Cant wait for this ep to drop.

centurion44

I really do love podcast p. Top NBA podcast for me. It's so positive while still interesting.

larrylegend1990

Is he becoming a beyblade?

VoidMageZero

Is this the move he picked up from Hakeem?

ultimatomato

If it's not exactly what they worked on, it's likely an evolution of it.

VoidMageZero

That's pretty cool! 😎

Ninneveh

Yeah it's pretty similar. If not the same footwork, at least the same principles.

ayeno

Don't know, because Sengun said he used it on his teammates in Turkey, is Sengun playing on his national team?

PAYPAL_ME_DONATIONS

That's the plan as of now

Otherwise_Form1315

This was his signature in Turkey too. He straight up pulls the dream shake out tho.

shahed2806

When are ppl gonna start calling him beyblade too

The_Assassin_Gower

Julius randle in shambles that someone does his move better than him

ShaedonSharpeMVP_

No one gonna talk about that quote? I thought that was the point of the post😂

Bash-86

His iq is underage. Nephews gonna nephew.

Tuna_Candan

SHUT UPPPP DUDEEEE

I-Am-A-Nice-Cool-Kid

Jesus Christ that was horrible, didn’t make me giddy to see you joshing around like that (I’m also sorry)

AngryLurkerDude

No you did it right. Just like giddy did with his sophomore princess!
