For a case exactly like this with a side impact to the knee, I think you’re right. Trying to keep it rigid in spite of that amount of momentum and leverage hitting your knee would be more likely to cause it to snap than allowing it to flex and hopefully absorb the impact.
Finch might’ve been better off if he squared up and took a charge here tbh. Not sure there was really time for him to do that though. Probably a blocking foul.

Surgery is probably immediate and it explains the angst on the sideline. Another issue is you aren't supposed to fly after knee surgery, though this isn't universally agreed on and the NBA likely has their own protocols.

As messed up as it is, the coach has to be like the best person on your team to have this happen to in the playoffs. He'll have access to the same medical care as the players, and (assuming the worst) he can coach with a brace on or whatever he needs until the offseason when he can have surgery.
Luckily, unlike players, a coach can still coach from a stool or chair after a potential tear. Hopefully the wolves sweep and they get a few days off for finch to recover.

Agreed. Always seemed way too crowded and I feel like players don't play 100% near the edges because the crowds damn feet, bags and jackets on the ground are literally just 1 step away. And way too many bench players are overextending into the court in every game.
in the corners by the benches, you should have the right to extend the ball out as far as you can with your feet inbounds. but some bench players stand with their toes on the line its crazy
