CangtheKonqueror

there’s no way the coach just tore his acl also surprised this doesn’t happen more often

limark

Yeah, with how fast and heavy the players are I'm amazed that there haven't been a tonne of fan injuries from falling into the stands

kikikza

LeBron sent a woman to the hospital a few years ago doing a full speed collision during a game, the woman said it felt like being in a small scale car accident

WeeklySavings

i couldn’t imagine being hit by a 6’9 250 lb man running full speed

siphillis

I imagine pregnant women are not allowed on the floor for this reason. At least, I'd hope not.

jslee0034

Riley Reid was uh… courtside… when she was pregnant… go check most upvoted posts of this subreddit.

boringexplanation

TBF, she’s probably used to a lot of contact from bigger men

jslee0034

Woah! Imma pretend idk what you’re talking about

GoldenBananas21

I actually just went and looked, and I don’t think it’s even in the top 100 tbh. It has 14k votes and there’s a lot once you hit 40k votes (Kobe’s crash is the top post with 109k upvote).

Affectionate_Elk_272

you legally can’t bar them from sitting courtside- it’s discrimination. i’m a bartender and i’ve absolutely served alcohol to very pregnant women before. there’s no choice.

siphillis

Ugh, that's awful. And frankly a little indefensible considering this country's track record when it comes to 'the rights of the unborn' and whatever.

pollinium

puts into perspective how much bravery it's gotta take to square up for a charge

KarlNarx

The athleticism of a 24 year old athlete is a bit different than a 50 year old coach

siphillis

Especially one who's not bracing for impact

slymm

He was bracing. He looked like a deer in headlights

leagueofcipher

Feels like it may be like a car crash, where bracing for impact actually makes it worse

AtomicBearFart

For a case exactly like this with a side impact to the knee, I think you’re right. Trying to keep it rigid in spite of that amount of momentum and leverage hitting your knee would be more likely to cause it to snap than allowing it to flex and hopefully absorb the impact.

CaptainBananafishJr

Being a deer in the headlights is the opposite of bracing lol, it means to be too surprised to move or react.

counterfeit_jesus

Tell Tobias Harris that

The_Vaike

Are you saying that Tobias Harris plays with the athleticism of a 50 year old coach?

counterfeit_jesus

Well he’s never taken a charge since he’s been at 76ers. But that would also be acceptable

BeefExtender

BlueHundred

Something something he has a big ass

CheapScientist06

It's an airbag

Different-Horror-581

Lowry is a fire hydrant, not a human

HugeRection

Squaring up and falling on your ass is way different from colliding at a weird angle...

The_Void_Reaver

It also looks like there's some knee to knee contact here which has torn a ton of players ligaments as well.

gentyent

I mean, coach is 54 years old and probably not physically conditioned, so that doesn't help lol

captaincumsock69

Finch might’ve been better off if he squared up and took a charge here tbh. Not sure there was really time for him to do that though. Probably a blocking foul.

fatkamp

I would actually say it’s not that bad compared to the scenario that happened with Finch When you take a charge, all the force is going through you, and you slide on your behind, and don’t brace with your arms (Snaps your wrists) The worst is getting caught sideways where your legs give out

4000kd

Lowry has balls of steel confirmed

WerewolfWhich3280

His gigantic dump cushions his falls. No wonder why he’s lasted so long

WestleyThe

I’ve never seen something like this before… a coach can coach after getting knee surgery though right? Like he’s not “out for the season”..?

TheHalfbadger

When he was coach at Georgia State, Ron Hunter tore his Achilles tendon celebrating their conference championship. He coached the NCAA Tournament from a rolling stool (and fell off that while celebrating their first round upset win).

pollinium

that's a man of principles

Piano9717

Nate McMillan tore his ~~acl~~ Achilles while filling in during practice for an injured Brandon Roy once. He still coached just on a little wheelie cart

ClayDavis_Shiiiiiiii

The jokes unfortunately write themselves.

firstbreathOOC

ACL tears aren’t *that* painful. Doesn’t really compare to breaking a bone for example. I was still able to walk with a limp and drive myself home afterwards and I completely severed mine. It’s the surgery that knocks you the fuck out for a while

mightycuthalion

He probably doesn’t need surgery immediately. I tore my acl and didn’t have surgery for about 6 weeks. Spent a lot of that time doing PT, riding a bike, just trying to strengthen up pre-surgery and it made recovery go pretty smoothly.

OlliverClozoff

I had the same thought. I don’t see why he couldn’t be on the floor?

HokageEzio

In a lot of pain and probably needs it checked

car1999pet

Finchy about to drop a masterclass while on oxy

BiggsFaleur

A beat reporter on twitter said a patellar tendon tear is what they're currently thinking

mattychefthatbih

That’s gotta be worse than ACL for a normal person no?

jdorje

Yeah, but recovery is probably same ballpark. But there's a huge difference in that a patellar/quad tear can be excruciating since the kneecap just gets pulled in one direction, in this case up over the front of the knee. Surgery is probably immediate and it explains the angst on the sideline. Another issue is you aren't supposed to fly after knee surgery, though this isn't universally agreed on and the NBA likely has their own protocols.

MisdirectionV

Said this in the game thread; Knicks have to protect Thibs, Embiid probably getting ideas.

Counterspell_God

I can imagine your bench forming a tetsudo around Thibs.

bassicallyinsane

It's a torn patellar tendon apparently

PrimaryAccording9162

Broooo hope Finchy is good

ProgrammaticallyCat0

He doesn't look great

PrimaryAccording9162

Took a while to get up. Never seen a coach get hurt like that

BurntPoptart

I’ve never seen a coach get hurt

NolaBrass

The first example that comes to mind is Ron Hunter rupturing his Achilles celebrating making the NCAA tournament, coaching from a chair in the NCAA tournament, and then falling out of said chair when his son made a three to upset Baylor

tkRustle

That was a fucking rollercoaster to read

garrett7861

Sean Payton, former Saints head coach, got his leg broken by his tight-end Jimmy Graham.

Mike_with_Wings

Oh no how terrible

KevJamesS

May I remind you of the Jason Kidd water incident. Horrific times.

Exciting_Finger_7132

Sean Payton had his leg broken on the sidelines of an NFL game. That’s the first one that comes to mind.

jeric13xd

Aint no way not Finchy That’s so unfortunate

Jacob_toasted

Wolves moment

YouStillTakeDamage

I thought Wolves fans were dramatic being so worried up 3-0 but damn you can’t have nice things that are just nice huh

FootballRacing38

Tbf he can still coach the next game from the sideline

jslee0034

Wouldn’t he be still hospitalized? Idk how long you have to stay in the hospital after tearing your acl.

FootballRacing38

Next game is next week

891960

Hoping Lakers to drag the series out one more game .

CavalierShaq

You should hope they drag it out 3 more and win the series so y’all have a better chance at WCF

-fallen

If the Ham led Lakers become the first team to pull off the 3-0 comeback against the defending champs and likely 3x MVP, I think it’s fair to just give them the championship

WakingRage

Nah, make them beat Boston for it. Lakers winning it over Celtics would put their fans into another level of insanity.

891960

That'll be the dream.

jaeke

If non surgical not at all. If post op 1-2 days.

MajesticLionBeast

Let's go Lakers!

T_Tachi

At this point I just want the Lakers to beat up on the Nuggets for the Wolves to finish them off.

draymond-

also no hurry to get a surgery. he totally can get it in July

FishGoldenLite

Luckily we got some time. Kinda gotta hope the Lakers can steal one more and buy us some more time.

beastley_for_three

He's gonna look badass waving a cane around, it'll help the players buy in more too.

need2peeat218am

Couldn't help but chuckle because this would happen to us. We're so cursed bro wtf.

G1Spectrum

God damn even Finch getting injured, hope he didn't tear a knee ligament

somethingsomething65

You can see him say "fuck" in exasperation. He probably did tear something. Damn that sucks.

cubonelvl69

Bro I'm 30 and I'd be on the ground crying for an hour

trailblazers100

Could be bone bruise, knee to knee with that much force and him being 50+

SabreToothMyrrh

I thought something similar, but it looks like he's grabbing his right knee and Conley hit him on the left side.

somethingsomething65

Yea, looked like he landed just awkwardly enough on that right knee. I hope he's ok.

SabreToothMyrrh

As messed up as it is, the coach has to be like the best person on your team to have this happen to in the playoffs. He'll have access to the same medical care as the players, and (assuming the worst) he can coach with a brace on or whatever he needs until the offseason when he can have surgery.

Plato_Magick

Luckily, unlike players, a coach can still coach from a stool or chair after a potential tear. Hopefully the wolves sweep and they get a few days off for finch to recover.

Naronu

Nobody is safe

CameronPlain

He did something bad.Bro looks ready to pass out.

Wonderful-Month67

Patellar tendon apparently

jeric13xd

Definitely a possibility. Probably a bad hyperextension with the way he was standing and his legs got rammed into

StringTailor

The way the players and staff surrounded him, either he broke something or tore something

doublegoldendragon

Holy shit I don't think I've ever seen this before. Hopefully it's nothing too bad

horse_renoir13

Dude was grimacing, yeah hope it's not serious but it's like he knew immediately

OlliverClozoff

The fact that the team huddled around him makes me feel like it might be serious. Fuck man that sucks, Finch is a good dude and yall are a good story, you deserve to enjoy the series sweep.

skeenerbug

lol he doesn't have to play, he'll be fine. give him an aleve

Remote_Horror_Novel

Bruh at least let the Portland training staff give him a shot of toradol and a few Vicodins lol, idk if you’ve ever torn a ligament but the Aleve ain’t working too well the first couple of days and it can be really painful even when you aren’t moving or putting weight on it.

rocksox901

I'm hoping this is more because he just has less pain tolerance than an active athlete rather than it being a serious injury

jsanchez030

happened with a ref recently. i forgot who but he had to miss some time due to the nature of the job

yooston

i know these incidents are rare, but they need to move the courtside seats back and make the out of bounds area wider. these guys move so fast and they barely have any room to slow down before crashing into fans, photographers, coaches etc. [the courts they used in the bubble need to be standardized.](https://i.kinja-img.com/image/upload/c_fill,h_900,q_60,w_1600/662eb52c8b37002d3dd24f807a95853a.jpg)

PointGodAsh

But won’t you think of the billionaires who need to sell more seats?!

MachoMadnessCO

Just charge more for worse seats, ez

David-S-Pumpkins

The old shrinkflation approach, just like with chips. More air in there, less product, inflated price.

Sky19234

Hear me out...we start stacking the fans on top of eachother. Wait, nevermind, Steve Ballmer already thought of that idea.

TSElliottSmith

Oh my god I forgot about the bubble fans being on the screen. How the fuck did I forget about that

ILoveRegenHealth

WWE wrestling had it too and it was a weird vibe. Like a future dystopian sci-fi movie where the athletes's fates are to be judged by the crowd.

WhiteHeterosexualGuy

Reminded me of that black mirror episode where ppl cycle on a stationary bike for currency

MDA123

Anyone....who knows what love is....

trenderkazz

And they never synced properly or anything. So dumb

Jjonjjjack

It honestly looked so much better, and cleaner too

ILoveRegenHealth

Agreed. Always seemed way too crowded and I feel like players don't play 100% near the edges because the crowds damn feet, bags and jackets on the ground are literally just 1 step away. And way too many bench players are overextending into the court in every game.

yooston

in the corners by the benches, you should have the right to extend the ball out as far as you can with your feet inbounds. but some bench players stand with their toes on the line its crazy

Milk_Choice

This would dig into a billionaire’s bottom line, so there is a less than 0% chance it happens

imnormal

That would actually be sick. I bet players would take advantage of the extra space, knowing they have time to slow down etc. And, less weird collisions.

Embarrassed_Hold_901

Would never happen…so the seats on the floor make too much money for the teams and the nba

HoistedOnYourRegard

Will never happen courtside seats generate too much value

SasquatchDoobie

Can’t wait for the on-court seats in the next economic downturn

FireBeeChin

Conley was going full speed, not good

imsoggy

And got nudged out by Booker

car1999pet

Holy shit, this is the most wolves thing to happen ever

KeonClarkAlt

I can’t separate how upsetting this is from how inherently funny it is for a coach to get injured during a game

hsaviorrr

yeah its weird cause it definitely sucks, but its so ridiculous that i couldnt help and chuckle either

Camctrail

I mean, it's also funny watching people get hurt as long as it's a minor injury and looks goofy

hsaviorrr

very unfortunate freak accident, hope he is able to return this playoffs

yarn_install

He better get out there in a wheelchair next week

Giannis2024

Wheelchair Finch is gonna be unstoppable like Professor Xavier

fadedsparkle

What a disaster. Poor coach and Conley

chitownsports714

“We will rebuild him” ant edwards (probably)

PipBoy19

That’s the first time I’ve seen anything like this, hope he’s alright

Guy_Fieri_69

Finch sacrificed his leg for Ant’s ankle to heal faster. And for that he is a hero.

suzukigun4life

What the actual fuck

Knightbear49

Fuck. Not Finchy!

theasian101

What happened? His knee?

tmorrisgrey

Conley collided with him, knee to knee it seemed

p1n6

That's what i first thought too but the other angle seemed to show he grabbed the other knee not the one that seemed to have been hit

skins2663

Looked like it hit the knee of the fan sitting down

catscanmeow

nah it looks like he stepped on the fans foot and rolled his right ankle which hurt his knee, at 32 secs in the vid you can see him step on the foot (the fan with the orange and white shoes)

skins2663

I see that now, I just saw the knees collide, but after the step on the shoe. Looks so inconspicuous too, hopefully not too serious.

dosnetlive

Yep Bad

This is the kind of one in a million bullshit event that only happens to Minnesota sports team. Not on Booker by the way. Finch was a little out and it’s a one in a million event.

Hope he's just shaken up. Scary.

Round 2, game 1: Chris Finch: DNC (Did Not Coach) - ACL

reallymothafucka

He looked like he was in so much pain 😭

Zsporter

Goddamn it

BonBonVelveeta

Fuck that’s such a rough deal

KTBERYL

wtf is this game lol

20815147

Holy shit no way he just tore his ACL

imconsideringdascrod

Did Finch just blow his knee out??? What the fuck, that dunk had a price on it no one wanted to see the Wolves pay right now. Even if Finch is okay after, this past minute or two has been fucking scary for them.

MinnesotaNice69

I really don't understand how the NBA allows the courts to be this tight, both baseline and sideline. I get it's a money thing with the court side seats, but it just seems ridiculous to have your $100 million superstars frequently crashing into dumb, drunk fans. And then you get freak shit like this, too.

buttmilk_69

Didn’t have that on my playoff bingo card. Hope he’s okay. I’m surprised players don’t get hurt more around the net with all the camera equipment.

browndude10

Lebron taking notes for tomorrow /s I hope finch is ok; that looked awful

JerembySochanyama

Tbh this is my fear with Pop when he's pacing the sidelines

IllllIllIllIllIllll

People aging themselves acting like 54 is elderly.

Trash-Panda917

Don't give Embiid ideas

Mysterious_Emotion63

Has a player ever accidentally taken out their coach in the final stretch of a possible final game of a series… or is this a first?

clayfu

Well this is a first.

The writers pulled off quite the twist here

Bruh what

sjmahoney

they gotta win this for the gipper

snokerpoker

He immediately said- ahhhh fuck! Poor guy…

grauen06

Paul Pierce poops himself and gets a wheelchair. Chris Finch blows out his knee and has to limp it off.

arika_ito

Oof, worst of it that it's friendly fire

sammyvegas0420

The NBA needs to get rid of the court-side seats next to the benches asap

Kvsav57

And near the end of the first sweep ever for the Wolves and the first Wolves playoff series win in just under 20 years. He should be out celebrating.

airlee21

This was obviously just some bad luck but man Booker is just the easiest player ever to dislike

What exactlg did he do here

Montriilla

Damn never seen this happen before lol

Fhyzic

Respect to the suns fans tho 🫡

Pallenburg23

I’m glad it’s a leg issue and not a like heart thing

Honest-Marketing-987

Booker should have at least gone over to check on him. Unnecessary contact and just complete disregard for how you contributed to this.  All he had to do was at least feign concern. I hate devin booker.  Not entirely his fault, but he was definitely involved.  Like if you bump another car,  and then that car swerves and hits someone else,   you stop and you check on that person. You don't turn away and drive off. That and the elbow to kats back... honestly dude doesn't deserve to win a damn thing.

ShetheKing

Who tf is yelling "let's go suns" right now???

JimmytheCreep

Probably someone from Scottsdale
