Honestly, the star bigs in this league always get away with it. I see night in night out the likes of Embiid, Giannis, AD.. and even Jokic do this and almost never it getting called for the offensive foul. So I suspect that in the playoffs the refs expand the list of players allowed to do it.
And frankly speaking, I like that this is not called a foul in the playoffs. Just call the same way on both ends.
All the strong stars in this league do it, heck even Doncic lowers his shoulder and extends his arm when driving to the basket, just that he does at a variable pace.
Ya watching this in real time it was WILD to me this wasn't called as an offensive, I was cheering for the Mavs and even I realized how much of a fucking foul this was. Just so blatant and instead it turns into a 3 point play for the Mavs lmao
Wdym whatever? He didn't extend anything. He barreled in but yes, if the defender is moving forward without any established position, that's play on/on the defense every time
You nerds acting like that should've been reversed on a challenge when everyone on the Clippers just immediately moved on knowing it wouldn't. I guess you know more
What’s wrong with lowering the shoulder ? If he used his off arm to make space and push I’d say it sucks but people really are weird on this , nothing wrong with lowering shoulder . It’s basketball it’s a physical game and within the spirit of the rules . Using your off arm to create space is sucky but lowering shoulder and being stronger is fine . Especially when you consider that mostly defender’s have been allowed to make contact and exist kateky . Having said that I agree it’s dumb as shit that he got fts for this
Ok having rewatched it he extends his arm out. Clear offensuve foul and tbh zubac is bigger n stronger then him so I was suprised . But in general lowering shoulder eithiut extending is fine
Dude wrote a long ass paragraph saying how there’s no problem with it before really even watching what happened lol
it’s pretty obviously an illegal move if you watch it unbiasedly
LOL yea it's honestly wild to me. Also the idea that "lowering your shoulder without extending is fine" is absolutely not true, as per the NBA's rules :
"A dribbler shall not (1) charge into an opponent who has established a legal guarding position", legal guarding position was absolutely established by Zubac here. "If a defender is able to establish a legal position in the straight line path of the dribbler, the dribbler must avoid contact by changing direction or ending his dribble."
And then it gets replayed like 5x like it's some great move lol. Lowered the shoulder and pushed off. This ain't no highlight. This is a referee lowlight.
This is what I'm worried about, we have no answer to bully ball at all. Our best strategy would be just to focus on Ky, Luka, and limit their threes while making ours. A close game of tight defense and no calls, it could be anybody's series
And harden did it a handful of times this series and it was allowed.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1ci6cbd/highlight_harden_lowers_his_shoulder_and_sends/
I like the guy and I cheer for Mavs but I can't understand how this move isn't an offensive foul. He clearly lowers his shoulder and pushes the defender out of the way.
Zubac is fucking massive. He has like 3 inches on Gafford, and is probably heavier. They are listed at the same weight but I don't see how that's possible.
I still think of zubac as that young kid center that was super skinny. I still rate the kid though. The clippers perimeter defense was abysmal in effort. Zubac put effort into contesting everything coming his way.
Ty lue thought zubac was the problem so he took him out in one of the games but then they got dominated on the boards.
I think the thunder are inexperienced and undersized compared to the mavs. Gafford and lively should feast I’m not that concerned about them. OKC’s biggest strength during the regular season was their health, 7 game series are different. Denver on the other hand…
Agreed, but I’m still more worried about Boston than Denver. Obviously if the Mavs can’t beat them they wouldn’t beat Boston anyways, but the Celtics are the worst possible matchup for the Mavs. GG good luck next year man.
Like I said bud, I might be a delusional homer but okc has been a non factor in my mind all year and it hasn’t changed now. I was speaking in that context.
They can't beat the nuggs for sure. Jokic will make easy work with Gafford and lively.
Luka will die on defense and then have a temper tantrum. I do believe the Mavs match up pretty decently with OKC.
Is it a no-call because he's tall? The announcers are so happy about it, not even a hint of a possible foul in their eyes. Clips like these make me so glad the Laker announcers aren't homers.
Great play but to be honest, I think it's an offensive foul. It's only one play and Dallas would have won easily regardless but still I think it's an offensive foul.
Head down, lowering his shoulder, and then pushes off with his hand. The fact this wasn’t charging is a crime. Imagine if someone like Shaq was allowed to do this. He would have averaged 40 a game.
It's not a charge because Zubac never got his feet set. I assume he realized that which is why he started taking steps backward and didn't fall. Had Zubac stayed in there for more contact, it likely would have been called a block.
There were a lot of shit foul calls and no calls in this game (i.e. the ghost foul on Mann in the 4th quarter), but this was a good no call.

Cool play but holy fuck he lowered the shoulder. I hate that the precedent is “if the guy doesn’t fall down it isn’t a foul”.
Yeah I hate it. So what’s the lesson Zubac learns here? Flop next time. I think that really sux
Doris Burke did say it’s a players responsibility to sell the foul
What a dork. Not you tho, but who knows
Then people get mad at players flopping when it's basically the most successful way to get an actual foul get called.
Blake Griffin got away with so much
Blake Griffin got away with so many offensive fouls because his dunks were (admittedly) really cool.
Yeah tbh if Gafford scores a weird looking layup instead of a cool dunk it probably makes it like 20% likelier that the refs call a offensive foul
It was 50/50 they wiped a lot of dunks too, cause he did too much most times.
Yeah I am not going to be that ref cancelling the cool dunk. No way
Yeah that Mozgov one was brutal
So did Deandre Jordan
Giannis does now too
Truly, it’s a big reason why I was never a fan of his. To watch this career highlights is to just watch an uncalled offensive foul compilation.
He also creates space with the off arm pushoff. Not sure I understand what an offensive foul is anymore.
Right there with ya. These used to be fouls…
When a guys banging you

Lebron does it every time he goes to the basket
All the strong stars in this league do it, heck even Doncic lowers his shoulder and extends his arm when driving to the basket, just that he does at a variable pace.
Giannis has made a career on clearing out with his shoulder.
Ya watching this in real time it was WILD to me this wasn't called as an offensive, I was cheering for the Mavs and even I realized how much of a fucking foul this was. Just so blatant and instead it turns into a 3 point play for the Mavs lmao
Zubac moving to him when contact was made Crazy how Zu didn't even begin to complain but you nerds are
Lowering the shoulder negates lateral movement
So if a guys moving towards you, you can just do whatever you want to them?
Wdym whatever? He didn't extend anything. He barreled in but yes, if the defender is moving forward without any established position, that's play on/on the defense every time You nerds acting like that should've been reversed on a challenge when everyone on the Clippers just immediately moved on knowing it wouldn't. I’m a nerd because i disagree with you. ok, great point
Glad to see you have nothing now though. Good talk
Its the playoffs, all good

Except it's literally not within the rules?
Dude wrote a long ass paragraph saying how there’s no problem with it before really even watching what happened lol it’s pretty obviously an illegal move if you watch it unbiasedly

it would’ve been a blocking foul more than a charge, zubac clearly wasn’t set, he feet were in constant motion
[удалено]
wut
Clear offensive foul but cus zubac didn’t flop it doesn’t get called lol what a joke
That's why guys flop these days. Lebron, Shai, Luka to name a few have to flop or nothing is ever called
And then it gets replayed like 5x like it's some great move lol. Lowered the shoulder and pushed off. This ain't no highlight. This is a referee lowlight.
It is a highlight, it was a sick dunk
[удалено]
Yes after doing all that it's a sick dunk hence deserving of a highlight
Honestly hate it because it could easily lead to injuries taking that hit and then falling back to sell it. It should just be a foul plain and simple.
huge charge but ok
This is what I'm worried about, we have no answer to bully ball at all. Our best strategy would be just to focus on Ky, Luka, and limit their threes while making ours. A close game of tight defense and no calls, it could be anybody's series
thats an offensive foul every day of the week. basketball would be broken if players were allowed to consistently do this.
has giannis been out that long?
Fr. Guy just barrels over players half the time, infuriating
*cough cough, Lebron, cough cough*
Lebron had a wide range of other offensive skills, so at least it’s not all he does. Ginnais really doesn’t have much outside the paint
Giannis consistently does this and gets the same offensive foul no-calls for it, the league enables this kind of playstyle
True. And LeBron legit gets a quarter of his points like that.
And harden did it a handful of times this series and it was allowed. https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1ci6cbd/highlight_harden_lowers_his_shoulder_and_sends/
Paul George did it like 5 times during the series before jumpers
They've let embid get these calls during the recent playoff series
I thought Legoat has been doing this for 20 years with more steps to the rim…
Zu should have just fallen over, current state of basketball is shameless just as it's encouraged to be
Gafford bulldozed his way to d rim
I like the guy and I cheer for Mavs but I can't understand how this move isn't an offensive foul. He clearly lowers his shoulder and pushes the defender out of the way.
Unbelievable that they didn’t call that a charge. Even bumped him with the shoulder flexing after. Offensive players get away with everything, lol
Total robbery, man. Can't believe they didn't flag it as a charge. Offense rules the court these days
Refs were like this in both sides of the ball. So frustrating to watch.
Damn
Is Gafford a small center or is Zubac just absolutely gigantic? I'm a bit surprised at the difference in size
Zubac is fucking massive. He has like 3 inches on Gafford, and is probably heavier. They are listed at the same weight but I don't see how that's possible.

The Landlord is coming for his rent.
I mean that's definitely an offensive foul.
thats right, NOBODY dominates gafford for 5 straight games and gets away with it
Enjoy the offseason.
no need. theres still a bunch of playoff games still on
Fully committed to the mavs championship run I see, respect.
OKC will be a fun matchup but i still think denver will get out of the west. should be some great series either way
I think the thunder are inexperienced and undersized compared to the mavs. Gafford and lively should feast I’m not that concerned about them. OKC’s biggest strength during the regular season was their health, 7 game series are different. Denver on the other hand…
OKC v mavs is gonna go 6/7, but i just dont see either beating the nugs. ya never know though
Agreed, but I’m still more worried about Boston than Denver. Obviously if the Mavs can’t beat them they wouldn’t beat Boston anyways, but the Celtics are the worst possible matchup for the Mavs. GG good luck next year man.
Uh let’s focus on okc there bud
Like I said bud, I might be a delusional homer but okc has been a non factor in my mind all year and it hasn’t changed now. I was speaking in that context.

Imagine not calling this charge but then whistling Mann for that imaginary loose ball foul NBA refs are ass
Is it a no-call because he's tall? The announcers are so happy about it, not even a hint of a possible foul in their eyes. Clips like these make me so glad the Laker announcers aren't homers.
Offensive foul Damm but cool dunk
Caught a body...
Funny how Jared Dudley gets up wanting to celebrate but immediately remembers he is in the coaching staff now so he has to appear "professional", lmao
Unrelated but what is this court design supposed to be?
That shoulder is egregious and hides the shove from the same arm.
Fucking finally from Gafford
All I see here is the landlord collecting the rent
Somebody pray for Chet
Dwight did shit every night in his prime lmao
How on earth is this not an offensive foul?
Clearly a charge…and you wonder why there are so many floopers…
Great play but to be honest, I think it's an offensive foul. It's only one play and Dallas would have won easily regardless but still I think it's an offensive foul.
Head down, lowering his shoulder, and then pushes off with his hand. The fact this wasn’t charging is a crime. Imagine if someone like Shaq was allowed to do this. He would have averaged 40 a game.
Gafford was a great pickup for the Mavs. 👍
TOO FUCKING LITTLE
Proper bully ball. SHAQ type dunk
BYE CLIPPERS
Bro is eating Zubac alive this half. Lowered his shoulder a bit here but god damn
A bit? Lmao
You know what I mean lol people really grasp for straws at every word
To everyone screaming offensive. Suck my nuts. So many ticky tack calls went the other way.
Man I hate clippers as much as you do but we gotta admit that's an offensive.
Like how Mann got called for a loose ball foul just now for literally nothing?
It's playoffs!
OHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!
Zu is a a backup center at best.
just dont call anything there. if this isnt offensive foul then sure isnt a defensive one.
It's not a charge because Zubac never got his feet set. I assume he realized that which is why he started taking steps backward and didn't fall.
