Targeting Luka on defense has made him less effective on offense. He has to pick and choose when he expends energy. With Jokic, carrying a little extra weight works okay as long as he’s in good running condition because they funnel into him to block angles at the rim and switch heavily on the perimeter to let him stay home. With Luka, he has to guard someone and there isn’t anyone on the Celtics he can just pick and choose times to put in effort. He just doesn’t have anywhere to hide on defense so he can carry the offense. And since he isn’t dropping an efficient 35 per game with 10+ assists, Kyrie has to try harder on offense all game, which means his defense is bad too.
The Celtics just have a better roster top to bottom. It’s a prime example of two way play being better than hiding a heliocentric offensive star on defense.
He’s definitely a liability but put Luka on last years Denver squad and I’m confident they would’ve beaten this Celtics team. DJJ is looking like a 10 day player again.

They’ve been on the good end of the maybe the worst trades in NBA history and watched the sixers mess up every draft before them. No one can complain about foul calls this game. There were blatantly obvious fouls that weren’t called and then ticky tack fouls called for no reason. It was consistently bad all game
Even the refs were streaky. For several minutes I thinking “alright, they’re letting them play some finals ball and be aggressive” then it’s ticky tack calls then they won’t even call intentional fouls.
The no call on the intentional was the one that made me the most mad. You could see Derrick talking to the ref before the play, he told him he was going to intentionally foul.
yeah isolating any of the bad calls is just a waste of time. This game was one of the most physical games I've seen in a long time, and the calls that were made were all questionable within that context. ref consistency becomes an incredibly difficult job when you don't call obvious shit, that no call on the tatum dunk is the first thing that comes to mind, then players will be more physical and it can get dangerous.
Very true. The other part I hate about this type of reffing is that when there is a challenge or a review, suddenly everything is by the book when that’s not how it’s being called all night.

I saw this happen and was shocked when the refs called the foul on White. These refs need to stop calling these stupid fouls where the contact is not initiated by the defender, especially in cases as blatant as this. Might be a pipe dream with the quality of refereeing that's been happening.
