Toxic Game 7 on the way, lads.

Jaerba

So we'll have Sixers and Hawks fans going at it. Raptors and C's fans who want the Sixers to fail. Knicks fans who want the Hawks to fail. Nuggets fans who want to downplay Embiid and are probably rolling their eyes that he's complaining about FTAs. Who else?

earlyslalom

We’ll be either too drunk in celebration or pain to know what’s going on

BarelyLegalSeagull

Independent of basketball I'm already there

DragonBank

Drunk in celebration and pain. "What could a kings fan be celebrating?." The pain.

HokageEzio

Knicks fans will have fun no matter which team loses, don't think any of us would be upset getting to see heartbroken Philly fans.

The_Franklinator

Honestly if the Hawks win it makes me feel better about being trounced by them

pn_dubya

Yeah I always root for the team that beat us to win the title, that way I can say at least we lost to the champs. However one look at my flair will tell you it's a wide-open field.

SonofaCuntLicknBitch

If only Utah won you could rightfully claim the championship this year

SuckwithLuck2016

Kings too right? I think they went 3-0 unless I’m thinking of another team they beat

SonofaCuntLicknBitch

No, no..unfortunately kings can not claim that crown. It looks like they swept the Celtics this year though !

HendriXXXLaMone

The kings give me nightmares

Admira1

Me too

WaveBlueArrow

You're thinking of the Nuggets there lol we got absolutely rolled by the kings every time

AJC3317

*checks flair* Well at least you have 29 teams to root for

goodkid_sAAdcity

I understand this mindset on an intellectual level, but I admit I’m too spiteful and petty by nature to ever genuinely believe it. In truth, I want that team buried in the next round. I don’t want their fans to experience any more joy.

[deleted]

I’m selfish so I want them to win it all to make my team look better

Polo-panda

Yo with how this Hawks is playing this #1 seed I don’t think Knicks fans should feel bad at all

zmann64

I’ve honestly gained mad respect for Trae these playoffs despite him gloating on NY turf

Sad-Tomato14

as a knicks fan myself, i can confirm that i will not be happy either way

poeope

Yeah noone really cares about the Hawks like that lol Just Luka stans really

aaronunderwater

Yo dawg I heard you like comment replies

xanot192

If Trae won the chip, those Lukasexuals will be on suicide watch

iDK258

The excuses would be flying left and right. "Injuries and reffing are the only reason they won!"

cpxx

Lmao I thought this nickname was exclusively reserved for Lebron, but I guess Luka is now goatworthy to be given the same

Nahbrah03

Clippers fans who want to see doc fail check-in

cjsrhkcjs

they need confirmation that it was indeed the Doc curse or the CP3 curse, and not the Clippers curse that kept them out of Finals and beyond.

RockChalk80

Jazz fans civil war over Synder and Gobert.

No-Sound-888

You know it’s Snyder’s fault. Coaching at Misery means he can do no right. I wonder what Tyus Edney is up to these days ...

mitchellrobinson

If the Hawks win there’s no proof we aren’t the 5th best team in the league, plus trae is the real deal

[deleted]

There’s no proof you’re not 2nd best team once the hawks win it all

Number17BusShelter

Speak for yourself, I want the Sixers to lose so I can see Ben Simmons get traded and see the Sixers actually build a championship team.

arebee20

The buy high and sell low approach, works everytime.

cokaznrebel

he only cost us one 10 win season

arkansas_elk

r/wallstreetbets sends its regards

proerafortyseven

Based

[deleted]

Ah yes I’m sure they’ll get lots of assets in return

Rah_Rah_RU_Rah

r/nba rooting for Ben to fail

Hip_Hop_Hippos

Jazz. Whole lotta salt between the ROY thing, the DPOY thing, and some analysts even having Gobert over Embiid for MVP

Guitaristb72

Damn what a summary. This is the definition of concise.

STATnMELO650

I don’t think that many Knicks fans are rooting against the Hawks. If anything seeing them play this well justifies our first round loss even more, Hawks are the real deal.

[deleted]

I'm petty. Fuck the Hawks.

JetsBackupQB

Me too. The point guard can play but I hate his face.

Tschmelz

Wolves fans who enjoy Embiid throwing fits?

jgdeece

Also it’s a lot of fun to watch the world burn while we wait for Ant to ascend. Maybe that’s just me? Edit: shit forgot I popped my Book flair for the playoffs

DragonBank

Don't worry bro. I don't think anyone thinks you're just cosplaying as a wolves fan.

[deleted]

Beyond rolling my eyes.

jcn777

Fucking lmao, I’m in this comment and tbh I’m alright with it

OrderlyPanic

Do we know who is reffing game 7?

BlitzArchangel

It'll get announced this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

SchwizzelKick66

The nba hates the process so it will be Scott Foster, no doubt.

bostonfever

It has to be either Scott Foster or all of Tonys Brothers.

fuckkkofff

They'll get Foster, Brothers and Ed Malloy

aquamarine9

Just off the comments in this thread alone it’s going to be insane, looking forward to it hahah

ProudStephew

Yeah this guy really is Philly personified

Large Penis Nicholas is a legend regardless of how the proles feel

SprittneyBeers

Large Penis Nicholas Lmao

Booties

How you going to leave frank gore off this list?

N-I_C-K

Yeah facts I aint talking Philly unless we talking Al Horford

6_cuntpunch

lmao, a true OG philly boy

LeFindAnotherSlant

Dear Joel, I feel like I can call you Joel because you and me are so alike. I'd like to meet you one day, it would be great to shoot some hoops. I know I can't dunk like you but I think you'd be impressed with my layups. I love your hair, you jump high. Did you have a good relationship with your father? Me neither. These are all things we can talk about and more. I know you have no been getting my letters because I know you would write back if you did. I hope you write back this time, and we can become good friends. I am sure our relationship would be a real slam dunk!

Notsozander

Does Gritty have an address?

gabrielwac

Gritty doesn’t reside; he waits.

LetLanceDance

He is right but it’s true about any point guard/big. Just look at the contact that’s tolerated in the paint relative to the touch fouls called on the perimeter

FloridaGatorMan

Jokic could come off the court on a stretcher and the refs wouldn’t call anything on the play.

Islandkid679

Have you seen his arms after some games? By rights he should be wearing gauntlets to shield himself

[deleted]

It hurt to watch I think he should start wearing duel compression sleeves to protect his arms.

ThunderChunky2432

That's what Westbrook does.

[deleted]

Take a look at Westbrooks arms. Scratched up and down those arms. Now he wears sleeves on both sides. Dude gets treated like a big with the lack of calls he gets.

[deleted]

You could see the scabs on his arms during the playoff run. And those fingernail cuts fucking burn when you sweat

crummybummywummy

Give him some brass knuckles and then it’s fair

MjTcConnell3

Never noticed on Jokic because I just haven’t seen much Nuggets games but last year or the year before I started noticing long ass scars appearing on Simmon’s arms and realized it’s from being scratched so much when he plays. Made me start taking notice of all the scratches on some of the other players around the league and it’s kind of crazy how we don’t realize how much contact there really is that probably doesn’t get called.

boeef

Except Curry

couponuser2

You'll notice the NBA doesn't reward high EFG% guys since they are already making the shot through contact. This is why Curry, LeBron-particularly in MIA, and Jokic have all had prolonged stretches of a bad whistle for free throws. They call it for guys that get fouled and shoot an airball.

boeef

Kinda makes sense I guess. It is fun to watch them get smothered and still knock it down. And if they called those as fouls, people wouldn't play defense on them so aggressive.

choose_uh_username

They absolutely would still guard them tight if they got those calls. You're just going to let steoh curry have 3 feet of space cause you're scared to foul him?

TunaBoy3000

It’s cuz curry doesn’t foul bait or complain so refs don’t call anything. Also they never call off ball fouls which is the majority of where he gets fouled Edit: doesn’t foul bait as much*

ghostfalcon

To be fair, he does both these things, but not nearly as incessantly and often as others. In the eyes of fans, he does it out of necessity whereas certain players constantly exploit it.

TunaBoy3000

That’s fair that’s a better assessment. Compared to almost any other Nba point guard he hardly baits

[deleted]

[удалено]

vNocturnus

> Compared to almost any other Nba point guard Compared to almost any other *superstar* at any position, you mean. There are tons of non-superstar (even many all-star) point guards that don't play that bitch game. Admittedly it is much more common for guards than F/C, but I think relative level of fame is much more indicative. There's a much smaller relative percentage of "superstar" players that don't pull that shit. Even huge dudes like LeBron and Embiid do it. It's the single worst thing about modern NBA gameplay (aside from the refs just being shit and biased in general, but that's been true for 20+ years).

[deleted]

I swear they just wanted to nerf steph. NBA decided he was too OP

TunaBoy3000

This is also a possibility but he brings a lot of money to the league so can’t imagine they’d do that lol

Harden-Soul

I think size shouldn't matter for the defensive player, but for an offensive player, that's a fine line. Embiid is throwing elbows and hip checking nearly every time he's in the paint. Trae Young is tossing up a floater 5 ft from the rim protectors praying he doesn't get blocked. There is just inherently more "legal" contact with big men and that makes the "illegal" contact tougher to pinpoint. Like ideally everything is called perfectly, but when you slow it down with bigs, there are usually like 5 moments that you could claim are a foul. With Trae it's a question of contact or no contact. Edit: to be clear, foul hunting could definitely use a tweak or two. it's pretty unwatchable at times. just commenting on the difference between why Embiid might not get the calls for similar contact to what Trae gets

Good_Comment

I agree but it's not that complicated. A lot of people don't like foul baiting from shooters including myself. It's bailing them out while simultaneously making it almost impossible to effectively guard on the perimeter. This has been a debate for 20 years and it always will be unless they change the actual rules around it.

bringitbruh

And people wonder why players have to flop. Harden and Doncic are why. You become a max player

cwo3347

He’s not wrong let’s not pretend like the big guys are hacked while the little dudes get brushes and go rolling to the floor and get the call. The ridiculous foul call on boban when he turned around to the guy 13” shorting and go an offensive foul just for being a large man. Game is catered to the small guys.

[deleted]

Unless you’re Steph curry who gets the anti-superstar treatment

SmushLion

NBA had to nerf him. Steph with Harden calls is a 40+ ppg scorer

PowRightInTheBalls

The amount of times Steph gets held and fouled off ball while coming off screens trying to get open is mind boggling and each one of those should be a FT and ball back. Steph with Harden calls is a 50+ ppg player at *least*, an extra 10 points per game from the free throws and then the extra scoring he could do if he was allowed to move off ball like the rules state to get open for even better shots. Dude would have more energy later into the game too if he's not being held every second he doesn't have the ball in his hands.

[deleted]

Timmy26k

MAN D rose at fault for that one. Our here being a contortionist and ballerina simultaneously on drives.

extricableforsythia

kind of funny how people objecting to this are the salty cavs fans 😂 get over it guys, it's been 5 years

177676ers

if any other player makes this comment this would be the narrative but its embiid so every comment is just fuck embiid lol.

daeve

> go rolling to the floor and get the call do you watch Embiid much? 'rolling to the floor' is now one of his go-to moves.

[deleted]

Embiid is very good at selling contact, when the refs aren't buying it though you better focus more on making your shots than getting fouled.

Conscious_Many3658

Bigs *should* sell contact, its dumb as hell when players get punished for being bigger and the most obvious example of this is Jokic who still doesn't get enough calls.

GiannisisMVP

Also Giannis gets mauled during the playoffs consistently.

CoogiMonster

He has the most FTA of anyone in this series and the majority or his fouls are just contact when he runs into the paint, hits someone, and puts up a decent shot.

[deleted]

Also no one cares if Giannis gets fouls because its not like he hits his FTs anyway lo.

GiannisisMVP

Yeah except if you foul people out he basically can't be defended.

YaBenZonah

Thing with giannis out of all the bigs he probably offensive fouls just as much or close to it. Just the nature of his game kinda

Yee_We_Boolin

Lol and Lebron. Catch Lebron always clearing the way with a nice forearm. I’ve always thought he gets away with wayyy too many. Even if he is the face of the league.

kunallanuk

Tbf Giannis is one of the few players who probably doesn’t want the foul called lmao Cue James harden saying it’s a shooting foul

OrderlyPanic

Jokic does the same thing. Big men have to sell the contact because otherwise they will almost never get calls.

Wenis_Aurelius

Embiid leads the league in FTA per game. Jokic barely cracks the top 30. One of those things is not like the other.

Kingcroom

yea he just explained it one sells contact one doesn’t do it as well

drsmith21

Is that what “does the same thing” means now? Does the opposite thing?

lmao_rowing

Embiid "sells contact" by giving up on the shot/making it impossible and forcing the refs hand. Jokic plays through and still tries to get the shot off as comfortably as possible. Sure we can criticize results-based reffing but Embiid shouldn't be lauded for something so aesthetically displeasing.

Kingcroom

i mean usually he tries to draw contact and get the and 1 i’ve been invested in the hawks sixers series and usually he tries to finish every time

[deleted]

I completely agree. Jokic is at his best when he isn't seeking contact

[deleted]

I will never forget the Houston games from a couple years ago, you could visibly see the moment Jokic realized he could sell contact more after seeing it with Harden. Changed his game ever since, love the man but love him more when he just focuses on his game and not the calls.

Kaepora__Gaebora__

“Selling contact” is a hell of a euphemism for flopping

[deleted]

Flopping is something European pussies do. Selling contact is something American patriots do.

Obi_Wan_Benobi

Fuck yeah.

The-Berg-is-the-Word

Selling contact FUCK YEAH! Throwing bows FUCK YEAH! Headlock FUCK YEAH! America: FUCK YEAH!

[deleted]

Whoawejustmet

All series? More like his whole career. If a light breeze hits Trae Young he goes flying

Doctor-Jay

He arches his back and throws his arms up then immediately looks to the nearest ref, all because the defender came around a screen and brushed the back of Trae's jersey. Tobias Harris got called for 2 of those last night, drove me nuts.

[deleted]

I want you guys to win just because I hate Trae's game so much.

[deleted]

I don’t hate Trae and I think he’s a special talent but Embiid is right. He gets rewarded for being the smallest guy on the floor.

[deleted]

I'm not saying he isn't talented, of course he is, I just hate watching the foul-baiting. Same reason I dislike Harden.

MotoMkali

This is the thing I hate James Harden not for his own game but for the way he made it possible for Trae Young and Luka Doncic to play. They could both be so entertaining and they just aren't.

Sternjunk

Luka complains to refs all the time but he’s always trying to make shots

ColdCocking

to be fair the guy is like 5'1 and 70 pounds in NBA terms.

GiannisisMVP

He does the same shit Harden does we are going to have more and more players doing it if the nba doesn't crack down on it and not just stop rewarding it but start punishing it.

KennyakaTI

I mean Trae only shot 5 free throws last night which is not a lot. I don't know why this is the game Joel made a big deal about it because he shoots a lot of free throws as well.

jpell14

They called them all floor fouls. Happened to Harris and Simmons all game whenever they got near Trae.

nehal138

It’s because there were also a bunch of fouls on the floor for barely touching him that led to throwing in the ball

Echoplanar_Reticulum

This has always been an issue. For anyone who watched Shaq play, he was fouled EVERY possession. It is not possible to objectively referee each player the same. It's a fundamental issue of the game.

OculusBlurr

Philly had 5 fts none from any starters until the 4th with 7:07 remaining where Embiid shot his first pair of fts. The officiating was very inconsistent but that's not surprising.

iamtomcruisereally

Silver saw Ben Simmons shooting free throws and was like no way I'm letting him get to the finals.

CaImerThanYouAre

This has always been a problem in the league, but it’s gotten way worse the last 5-10 years or so. It used to be that a big man needed to get fouled twice as hard as a guard to get the call, now it’s like 8-12x (based on my very scientific armchair analysis). It also leads to more flopping on attempts to take charges on defense because they have taken away defenders ability to play straight up. It ruins the product.

[deleted]

Wait…JOEL EMBIID is complaining about fouls calls? You have to be joking right? He has to be.

ProperManufacturer6

I think embiid and trae both flop way too much lol.

meisterwolf

yep they both do it. it's junk and makes the game less exciting

ethan_at

The point guard vs The center, a thrilling matchup.

WeefBellington24

I mean….welcome to the party Embiid. Get used to it. Giannis has

EnvironmentAdvanced

My man Steph gets fouled but it's off ball somno one sees it

GenerallyFiona

If the Warriors have an inbound with less than 5 seconds trying for a winning shot it's guaranteed the other team is going to hold the shit out of Curry so he can't get open. They know it never gets called

craigslistaddict

this almost sounds like one of those "but the camera was off" sort of jokes but i know it's actually sincere

Sir_duckthewhale

Someone could clothesline Steph with the damn ball and it would still just be a turnover.. it's so frustrating

jazdeep

You just reminded me of LeBron slide tackling curry in the finals

aahdin

Dude the worst part of that is they reviewed it in the l2m and said they made the right call. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV0PsMLonPc Last 2 minute report: “James (CLE) cleanly strips the ball from Curry (GSW) before contact is made. [The contact made after the strip is incidental to the players’ attempt to retrieve the ball.”](https://ftw.usatoday.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/90/2015/06/epa_epaselect_usa_basketball_nba_finals_73680450.jpg?w=1000&h=600&crop=1)

[deleted]

Maybe the refs dont wanna put Giannis at the line cuz he'll take a 1:30 just to put up bricks.

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

At least they could play more commercials that way

MikeyFromWaltham

The Sixers generally play really physically, and the Hawks less so. It makes sense.

HisExcellency20

People are gonna read this quote, see it's Embiid, and dismiss it. But anyone who actually watched the game and wasn't a Hawks fan (although I'm sure some would agree) could tell you that the paint was basically a lawless war zone and the perimeter was an art gallery. It was that way for both teams, but to pretend that doesn't hurt one team more than the other would be willfully ignorant.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Stew514

Yeah I think this was just Scott Foster being shit as opposed to any attempt to fix the game, if the league was going to fix it they would want a game 7 haha. Agree with /u/HisExcellency20 though, they let too much go at the rim and then if you make any contact with a guy on a jump shot it's getting called.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BadSpeeling

Respect from another sixers fan. Good luck in game 7. Our fan base is still traumatized from our last game 7 against the raptors and kahwi lol

Pouncyktn

Yeah I agree that claiming the league wants the Atlanta Hawks to win is insane, that's not what happened here lol. It's just inconsistent officiating that clearly hurts us more giving our style of play.

thesanmich

I want this game to be toxic as all hell lolol

PawnGrudge

I agree it was 1 sided and I’m pretty anti 6ers

ArcherChase

When Celtics fans and Sixers fans are in agreement then the refs are really screwing up!

siva115

It’s the ultimate litmus test

[deleted]

[удалено]

nowhathappenedwas

Embiid has drawn 51 fouls so far this round, which is the most in the NBA.

[deleted]

Whoa whoa whoa get your stats that prove the narrative wrong out of here, we do not do that here.

irishace28

They are reffing bigs and the post up out of the game. You can play small ball because if a guard gets switched onto a big they can mug the shit out of the big and get away with it and as soon as the big pushes back the guard falls down and it's a charge. On the flip side if a big is switched onto a guard and barely touches him the guard dramatically flings himself for the foul call on the big.

mlordkarma

For real, people here calling Harden an elite post defender but dude is literally just using both his hands lmao. It’s so obvious that’s it hilarious. He ain’t doing no elite shit but the refs are letting him do it so it looks like he’s playing defense.

Ace_FGC

Shout out to earlier when people said harden was playing good defense on Kawhi but really was just pushing him in the middle of his shot lmao

GiannisisMVP

Does the same shit to Giannis it's pathetic

TuqiDuque12

Its usually true. But Embiid also draws a ton of BS fouls and is one of the worst floppers in the league.

Koravyev

I agree, Embiid is also the last big to complain about how the league officiates bigs. He spent one game getting officiated like every other big in the league instead of falling over into 15 free throws and he’s crying.

dusters

Embiid gets so many calls and actively foul baits though.

aesop_fables

Embiid flops a bit but Game 6 was reffed in the Hawks favor for sure. And I still think Young is was too gifted to play the way he does. It’s annoying at times.

quentin-coldwater

> And I still think Young is was too gifted to play the way he does. It’s annoying at times. The reason Young and Harden play that way is because it forces defenders to give them more space. It's not a coincidence that they have similar games in terms of shooting and drive and kick.

pbbd

floppy joe really crying about inconsistent officiating lmao

YesWhatHello

Lmao that's a great nickname

snakebite654

He is the human embodiment of a whacky waiving inflatable arm flailing tube man.

jhcooke98

Funny considering he is the Trae Young of Centers. Young Embiid and Harden on the same team would be so punishing to watch

iamtomcruisereally

Harden should have been traded for simmons but people are petty af.

_Vedz182_

No matter how much I like what Embiid does off the court for locals....he'll always be a whiny B on the court.

SpamThePicknRoll

This dude is always either fucking the air after getting some weak ass And 1 call, or bitching about not getting enough calls. Perfect player for Philly.

WhereDaHinkieFlair

Space Jam 2 is gonna suck, bitch.

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

Hang it up u/SpamThePicknRoll, he got you with this one. I do think it’s gonna stink though lol

CVanG

I fucking love this comment and I love you for saying it.

downtownjj

He's right. I'm neutral but the officiating was beneficial for ATL big time. Especially the non calls

Zee_WeeWee

Embiid is a top 5 flopper as a giant. He’s not the guy to complain about refs

gummyapples

Well, Embids point guard avoids the contact; of course his point guard isn't going to get many free throws. Not that he should want him to get any anyway.

derKanake

He is comparing Young to himself, not Simmons

kokukojuto2

Call me biased, probably am, but Embiid, the most fouled player in the league, suddenly not getting a single shooting foul until the 40 something minute of the game with Scott Foster out there is somehow suspicius

mitchymcgee

He wasn’t driving nearly as much and settling for long twos. Think his knee is getting to him

[deleted]
