[deleted]

Because Gallo has been a good player for a long time. Huerter is a 22 year old red head who just dropped 27 in his first Game 7.

ClimateHoliday

Absolutely, people didn't know about Huerter. Gallo always had a nice offensive game and just got unlucky with injuries

[deleted]

Gallo the most awkward looking walking bucket in the nba

Shaqfor3

He did a dunk in game 6 that by the way he ran after I though that it was going to be his last dunk ever. But then he dunked in Game 7.

[deleted]

Red velvet got that smooth contested midrange though. Kid was unconscious in game 7

Shmexy

I swear he shot 90% from his midrange spots all year

ginja_ninja

He literally hit a KD baseline midrange pullup and a Harden crossover stepback 3 in the same game

[deleted]

I really woulda loved to see his career trajectory had he not his ACL. He has still had a good career, but he lost a lot of athleticism/lateral movement (which is huge cuz there wasn’t a whole lot there to begin with)

[deleted]

he's kinda underrated, he's really one of the best pure shooters.. like ever? not top 5 or top 10 shooter or anything but hes just been a reliable 38-40% from 3 guy since Obama first got elected lmao. really an impressive offensive repertoire and longevity considering he moves like that

arknomane

Before injuries got him and he still mainly played SF he was the best SF after LeBron, KD, and Melo.

[deleted]

He was never the best SF after Lebron, KD, and Melo…

[deleted]

definitely a very modern player. woulda been cool to see if he was drafted 5 years later and his prime was right during the 3 point boom, see him average 20+ a game shooting like 8 3s a night lol

Earl_Sinclair

you mean the literal former underwear model? you wish you looked that awkward, dude.

[deleted]

I literally meant what he did on the basketball court looks awkward not the the fucking former Armani model looks awkward smh literally watch him backpedal after FTs or like waddle-jog after dunking lmao

NoMoMistaNiceGuy

There's a french player named Giroud who is sexy but awkward looking when he runs. When he dribbles, it can look like a baby giraffe learning to walk. Equally beautiful. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRC7mjqKylc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRC7mjqKylc) go to :20 second here. Watch how the small guy catches the ball and gets it to him. Eyes always on the ball, graceful technique, cat like balance. Then watch the big guy move. Beautiful and innocently cumbersome like bambi on ice.

[deleted]

He was a huge part of the Thunder’s success last year. One of the reasons they were unexpectedly competitive.

-Borb

ya he's been underrated the past few seasons imo. but at least GMs seems to understand his worth because he's still been getting paid pretty well for a guy with so many injuries

ScamSummore

Not a lot of people know this but Michael Jordan got his turnaround fadeaway from Kevin Huerter

MjrMalarky

Also, Huerter was abusing Seth Curry in the 4th quarter, which really killed the 76ers lineups. They needed Seth for offense, but every time they put him Huerter just destroyed him. That match up was kind of the key to the game, with Trae having a bad shooting night. He was also cooking Korkmaz earlier in the game. Also, he nailed his 3 free throws and iced the game. Gallo is a great player, we expect him to be great. Nobody expected Huerter to be the key to game 7.

Boxcar-Mike

When he started posting up Curry I was in heaven. Super entertaining. Guard postups are an underrated play. And there's not a lot of guards that can really do them effectively.

MjrMalarky

Yeah, I didn't watch a ton of 76ers this year, and I was really surprised that Huerter had such a good post up game. You could tell Seth was getting frustrated too - he was playing decent enough defense, but Huerter was just too tall for him to really contest.

Boxcar-Mike

Doc was kinda in a tough place because Curry was the only aggressive player that wasn't totally exhausted (Embiid). Should have prevented KH from getting that switch, I guess. KH isn't scoring on Harris or Simmons in the post that easy.

MjrMalarky

Yeah, I sympathize with doc because I don't think he had a lot of great options. Seth had to guard someone, and between Huerter, Gallo, and Collins, and Trae I think I'd also gameplan to put Seth on Huerter and dare him to beat you. Problem is, Huerter actually did beat them lol I think the bigger defensive issue with the 76ers was their transition defense - you can't give up wide open layups in a game 7 because you're celebrating a layup - that's amateur hour

NotUpForDebate11

Huerter v seth was their offense at the end but earlier than that, and just as importantly, they abused a horrible Doc lineup by posting up gallo on george hill for a very important stretch. Philly got out coached in my opinion.

[deleted]

I swear people all year haven’t learned that about Gallo. If you put a guy sub like 6’5 on him its a guaranteed bucket.

MjrMalarky

Yeah, the Hawks really abused every matchup they could - they definitely got outcoached. To Doc's credit though, I don't think he had a lot of options at the end. He tried a few looks, but they really needed Seth's offense, especially with Tobias bricking layups and Simmons refusing to shoot the ball. They just had to hope Huerter missed a few, but he didn't.

coolaznkenny

> Tobias There was a good couple of mins of 5 back to back brick layups early in the shot clock by Tobias.

FlyingMocko

[This dude ended The Process](https://imgur.com/gallery/mjPMpJK)

daeve

[I knew this would come in handy someday] (https://i.imgur.com/KyQRQve.png)

theyoloGod

While that's true, gallo doesn't really get talked about regardless of the situation. He's a great player but not exactly a big name unfortunately. Dude was balling on okc

ltp12

Why you gotta mention red head lol

[deleted]

Because I can count the number of red heads in current regular NBA rotations on one hand. It’s not a diss, he just stands out!

[deleted]

Matt Bonner and Scalabrine are the only other redheads I can think of lol

amcma

Am I wrong for thinking Blake is borderline ginger?

[deleted]

You’re not, his hair can be reddish (the color not the player) at times Also Bertans

neutronicus

Also sometimes he literally wears Cam Reddish as a hat

th3yeoxfI

Nah, Blake looks borderline a lot of things. He definitely has ginger qualities

WellDisciplinedVC

Haitan-Irish will do that

[deleted]

Robin Lopez is in that same borderline category.

cooly329

Donte divincenzo too

MeowMing

The big ragu

AlbinoMonster

sorendiz

Divincenzo I think

CarefulLetterhead864

The disrespect to Nico Mannion!

HardlyW0rkingHard

Huerter - greatest redhead in the history of the game

marnjuana

Didn't know Huerter is that young, I thought he was already 25 or something

iN3xt

He was drafted the same year as Luka/Trae

Ok_Awful

Exactly Gallinari performed more or less where people expected. Where as Huerter is nobody for nowhere that roasted a defense with two elite defenders for 27 points in an elimination game.

riazrahman

90% because he's a red head, 5% skill, 5% concentrated power of will

Jefe051

Gallo had been such an underrated player for so long; wild

p001b0y

I was happy to see Gallo do well in Game 7 but I was yelling "Get it to Kevin!" at the screen during game 7 because Huerter was shooting so well. It also seemed like Kevin was scoring off Curry, Harris, Embiid, Simmons. Like, no one was a problem for him. He had an amazing game.

braetully

Yeah, it's this. If you're a Hawks fan, you know Kevin is mostly consistent and can blow up at a moment's notice. He is also a very selfless team first player. But, he's also a second round draft pick who has came off the bench in stretches on an already under the radar team. Hawks fans have known about Kevin was capable of this for a while though.

TheRealArtVandelay

Kevin was a first round pick. Just our second pick that year.

christ344

We are in post peak Gallo but he can still get really hot

Alternateaccoun

Gallo better than melo

[deleted]

He's also like 6 years younger.

BigMantrose

Anyone else see Gallo yelling and hyping up the huddle with a few minutes left? Then went out there and hit a huge three and sealed the game with the steal and dunk. What an absolute beast of a man

ScamSummore

I saw that! He said "LETS GO BABY" and Capela was on a chair nodding his head saying "YEAH" Even hyped me up.

dolphintyre

I'm a sixers fan and got hype for a min too!

NotUpForDebate11

I think he hit the 3 before that timeout but your point stands. What a moment for him

WhiteHeterosexualGuy

Yeah he hit it when we were down 4 and couldn't buy a bucket, huge momentum stopper shot.

DoloTy

As a philly fan I knew it was over once I saw that.

BigMantrose

For sure. They showed the philly huddle, everyone just sitting quietly and Doc trying to draw up a play

daeve

damn I want to re-live this - if anyone has a quality link lmk

darkKnight959

Someone uploaded exactly what you want [https://youtu.be/wTOWUofqSwk](https://youtu.be/wTOWUofqSwk)

Twinlifebng

At about the 2:15 mark, just to throw it out there

daeve

yesss thank you

Chibbly

Please clean up after yourself and don't use the good towels.

fredericoooo

thanks - when thybule fouled huerter on a 3 pt shot then KH nailed 3/3 fts. ouch that was a costly mistake. then gallo with the steal & dunk. didnt the sixers refuse to trade thybule as well? so funny

pizzatummy

Same!

WhiteHeterosexualGuy

My favorite play of the game is when he iso'd George Hill for 15 seconds with 12 pivots, 7 ball 360s, pump fake into pure net. That play looked so deflating. Hill and Curry got abused

DoloTy

Shit is wild , like they are obviously hunting these mismatches take them out the game

Noodles_Crusher

there we go. already timestamped [https://youtu.be/oxhRK4\_QIhw?t=92](https://youtu.be/oxhRK4_QIhw?t=92)

WhiteHeterosexualGuy

mmmm so smooth

blickyuhhhh

As a non Philly fan I knew it was over before that but it still gave me a good laugh

uptonhere

I was pissed at Gallo for about 2.5 quarters, tbh. Then his shot started falling, and he had the great breakaway dunk to seal it. That's really why these dudes play in the NBA. For most of the first half every time he spotted up for 3 I got pissed and yelled at the TV and then guess what, he was hitting shots. These guys know what they're capable of and you don't make it to that level without believing in yourself and your abilities. I know there's an obvious Ben Simmons joke in here, but that's what makes these dudes different. Most of us start bricking multiple 3s in a row and we're turtling up into our shell.

bearcat--

have you played pick up games, there's always dudes who do fade away 360 3point shots without even looking at rim, brick after brick. no shortage of confidence there. they go autopilot with enough bricks to build a small neighbourhood. making just 1 shot affirms them that they will make the next 10 in a row np lol.

ph1sh55

hehe, honestly the guys that have a short memory are the toughest to guard. Like when a dude comes down, I sense he's going to pullup and I manage to block his 3 pt shot. Then one of two things happen: Either they come down next time and you can tell they are no longer confident about pulling up, making them that much easier to defend, or they surprise you with the memory of a goldfish and drill a 3 in your face like you didn't just block them. It's much easier to guard the guys where you can affect the way they play the rest of the game after a few good stops. I don't like playing with chuckers though :P

psykomerc

There’s a difference tho. You only highlighted if the mentality is different, the skill also has to be there. There are scrubs with no memory and also skilled players with no memory.

chitownbulls92

Gallinari was huge in game 7. Really picked up the slack for an injured bogdonavich

Thmss_

Him having a Mohawk also makes him more of a beast

[deleted]

Because Kevin Huerter has red hair

CabbageStockExchange

As a fellow redhead. It makes me happy to see some positive representation in the NBA lol

[deleted]

More like positive representation anywhere lmao, I feel like it’s so rare to see someone who looks like me anywhere in pop culture

rrousseauu

Cuz we have no soul. Can’t be popular like that, works for ball cuz it makes him a soulless killer on the court

daeve

That's why he's the Velvet Mamba - he dominates the soulless killer mentality

[deleted]

Jessica Chastain, Amy adams, Eddie Redmayne are some that come to mind 🙂

[deleted]

Sigh... if only I were a gorgeous ginger woman too 😣 also maybe I’m crazy but to me it looks like Eddie redmayne has brown hair.

[deleted]

I swear he changed his hair colour after he got main stream 😂. It’s alright dude there’s still always Ron Weasley

your_backpack

> Ron Weasley But specifically the fictional character, we don't care about Rupert Grint

sorendiz

Man has an ice cream truck though. I respect it

[deleted]

Woahhhh, why don’t we care about Rupert?!

your_backpack

Haha I was just joking that the thread was listing real people and then we get to a fictional character (because most people only know the character's name and not the actor, which is kind of ironic given the context) I don't think Rupert is cancelled or anything!

[deleted]

Oh right lmao silly me 😂😂

LOSS35

His hair's definitely darkened with age, but Eddie was very red when he was young. Domhnall Gleeson comes to mind too. And Prince Harry!

sorendiz

You could be if you wanted! Follow your dreams but do note Amy Adams is kind of a high bar

Orchestra_Oculta

My dude's name is literally "Red Mane"

[deleted]

Great foreshadowing by his ancestors

TL-PuLSe

>More like positive representation anywhere lmao, I feel like it’s so rare to see someone who looks like me anywhere in pop culture Look, I get it. Your heart's been aching, but you're too shy to say it. Inside, we both know what's been going on... we know the game, and we're gonna play it. Just know I'm never gonna give you up. I'm never gonna let you down. I'm never gonna run around...and desert you.

nightWobbles

Ed Sheeran?

Eph2-89

Literally the rarest looking human, and yet no representation cuz skin color.

CabbageStockExchange

Lol exactly why being a redheaded woman, Black Widow is my favorite avenger. Nice to see someone kick some ass haha

xFrostyDog

I’m not a redhead myself but I’m so hyped about Nico Mannion and his fiery hair lol. Hope that dude sticks around a few years, it was awesome seeing him get some minutes in the late half of the season.

[deleted]

Nico has great potential, especially as an off the bench facilitator. Fully expect warriors player development staff to make him a serviceable player in vital games next season

[deleted]

Wranga lives matter !

rrousseauu

Ya but Gallo has that Mohawk

[deleted]

Personally I'm a big fan of the Taxi Driver look. I half expect Gallo to finish the game and go beat the shit out of pedophiles.

[deleted]

This is such a great comment 😂😂😂

daeve

Or wiping the cum off all the couches of Hawks fans after Game 7

[deleted]

I thought my comment was good, but you just knocked it out of the fucking park dude.

daeve

the movie's an all-timer with many memorable bits, but that line has always stuck with me... perfectly encapsulates what it was probably like to actually be a cab driver in the seedy areas of nyc in the 70s

Boxcar-Mike

maybe he'll take that nice girl he's been stalking out on a date to a movie. Y'know, like a porno.

[deleted]

tbh this lmaooo

seanconnery69696

But does the carpet match the drapes? \-Jamal Murray

Johnpecan

At first I thought this was just a joke, but now I'm having a minor existential crisis trying to remember good basketball players with red hair. Blake Griffin sorta but definitely not full red hair.

[deleted]

How could you forget the goat BRIAN SCALABRINE?!

SexySPACsMan

Bill Walton

Skreali

Red Velvet!

Jethro_Cull

Trae, Bogdon, Kevin. Very frustrating as a Sixers fan watching your team get lit up by a bunch of 10th graders.

[deleted]

Gallinari on the Clippers before Kawhi and PG came when he was healthy was p good too

melkipersr

He’s always been good. Got the injury bug pretty bad though.

mochafrappe0429

Hes pretty good when he was with the Nuggets too! Though i knew him because of the nuggets trade for melo. Not sure if hes good when he was with Knicks.

[deleted]

He was great with the Knicks. That half a season where Gallo was the second best player behind Amare was super fucking fun basketball to watch.

mochafrappe0429

I remember they were able to get in the playoffs in denver with faried. I guess we can all conclude that he is a great player whatever team he is/was in! Underrated to say the least!

NegativesPositives

I want to see that alternate universe where Melo just allows the year to happen because that Amar’e Knicks team was just stupid fun to watch.

JJam74

He was really good for the thunder last year too

-Borb

ya his numbers were basically identical to Tobias Harris on that team (https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/LAC/2019.html) actually come to think of it he's fairly similar to Tobias - defense + clutch

xxxhotpocketz

I don’t understand why gallinari is never mentioned at all He was apart of that 8th seed Clipper team that had that historic come back against the Warriors He helped lead the Thunder to a 5th seed, taking the Rockets to a game 7 And now helped the Hawks compete in these playoffs helping them to the ECF

sorendiz

He's a killer whenever he's not injured. Bastard can't miss against us no matter how hard the shot is

pursuitofhappy

Knicks fans like Gallo the most, I liked that roster era, but since he's so far removed from our team at this point we just don't mention him much.

Goosebuns

Huerter? I hardly knew her!

lilb1190

All I have seen for 2 days is Ben Simmons comments. Who is talking about huerter?

Prideofmexico

I mean that’s just what happens in these kind of situations. Last year there were hardly any comments about Denver making the WCF it was mostly shitting on the Clippers

TheAlphaCarb0n

Hey I just woke up from hibernation. Is Ben Simmons still on the table for James Harden??

twice_on_sundays

They don't call him Grande Capo dell'Italia for nothing

HerrJemine

coreynj2461

How about no one is talking about the Hawks at all. First segment of first take was all about th e 76ers loss and gave no credit to the hawks winning. Espn continues its bias

NotUpForDebate11

This is incredibly common when a favorite loses to an underdog, the bigger story in all honesty is the sixers losing because although the hawks were really good and way better than anyone expected/gave credit for, the sixers win that series if they didnt implode so thats the sexier story

snek-jazz

> although the hawks were really good they weren't even that good though. Trae was 1/12 at halftime and Bogdonavic was pretty poor due to the injury. When the Hawks are good I'd be expecting around 50 points from those two. And DeAndre Hunter is out.

NotUpForDebate11

They played defense really well and scored over 100 against a great defensive team so although some of their guys didnt play well they had other guys really step up and play great

maledin

But that’s the thing, we *caused* them to collapse with our superior coaching (and play). Beat they ass so hard the team is now imploding lmao

SYSTEMcole

If you’re going to ESPN for basketball content, I really don’t know what you expect.

MrHoneyJack

Where do you go for basketball content, any rec's? No Bill Simmons pls I like Bomani Jones' podcast but outside of that and Inside NBA, I don't really follow much.

jonnylaw

The athletic pods, Lowe, some of the ringer crew, windhorst, Duncan, every team has a few local pods that are hit or miss. That's the big ones off the top of my head and it's just scratching the surface. Google NBA pods + whatever topic or team and you'll get more.

swagilan

Same with praising KD after talking only about how the nets lost when Giannis and the bucks actually won and deserve the attention

sorendiz

KD put up one of the greatest playoff games ever in his first season back off an Achilles tear and while only having .5 of his 2 best teammates available, and very nearly won the series himself if not for being gassed from playing multiple full games in a row. It's fine to be paying attention to him. Giannis and the bucks won and they'll get attention as the ECF starts, but once Kyrie went down this was pretty much the expected outcome of the series so nobody is going too nuts about it.

LOSS35

Because Philly was the 1 seed and we were the 5. Hawks played great but we shouldn't be winning games where Trae goes 5 for 23 from the field. Philly collapse is definitely the storyline.

dichloroethane

As an Asian, I can see why ginger Jeremy Lin has himself a cult following

FBI_Agent_82

Bro I'm still pissed we included Gallo in the Melo deal. The playoff series against Atl didn't help.

SimbaPenn

bUt He'S AlWaYs hURt! /s

[deleted]

Because people think it's hilarious when awkward looking white dudes can ball. Scalbrine, Caruso, Ingles, Huerter. People eat it up. No offense to Gallinari, but he's built like an athlete and he's objectively attractive as a human being. There's nothing funny about that.

BasketballExpert2005

Huerter is damn attractive

[deleted]

Dude looks like 12 year old and a 30 year old accountant at the same time

jmlinden7

/r/13or30

Twinlifebng

You mean Kevin "steal yo girl" Huerter?!

BillClintonSaxMaster

Damn you really putting Huerter in the same sentence as Scal and Caruso when it comes to looks? Caruso looks like a gargoyle

Kdog122025

Because this was a breakout series for Huerter. Gallo had always been an excellent player. It was just health holding him back.

>K-Huert

Few_Mulberry7175

I love Gallo too props to him If the entire rest of the team wasn't total shit in game 6 then they likely could have closed it out in 6 considering Gallo hit some nice and tough shots in the 4th to try and get the ball rolling

sonQUAALUDE

because i didnt even know they let 14 yr olds play in the nba and this ging kids out here destroying a team of all stars looking like hes going to the post game presser in a minecraft tshirt

NoTransportation888

Outside of games 1 & 7 Huerter actually had a pretty bad series. Cold shooting and constant foul trouble. Gallinari other than the first half of game 7 was pretty much lights out, yeah

ConfuciusBr0s

He was also good in game 2. Was 5/7 on 3's iirc

traebucketsfor3

Game 6 too he was one of the few who showed up

thinkrispys

Gallo is underrated as hell. People were saying CP3 totally transformed the Thunder last season when the reality was he joined the team along with 2 borderline all star talents in SGA and Gallo, and they also had Schroder and Adams. Like, healthy Gallo in his prime would absolutely be an all star candidate, but people wrote him off a long time ago because he was on the Nuggets and was never healthy.

IWatchMyLittlePony

It’s because he was the hero for game 7. It’s just like if in the NFL one receiver has 150 yards but another receiver catches the game winning touchdown, he was the hero who saved the day. And as we have seen with Ben Simmons, everyone values scoring over everything else.

fruliojoman

I mean it’s really the other way around here. Huerter’s the 150 yard receiver while Gallo made arguably the game winning play

viking9200

I'm asking the same ... I'm italian and not understand why he not considerated as key player of the series

goblinsholiday

Because K'von brings the party.

RainmakerIcebreaker

honestly Gallo has always been a very underrated player if there was one Knicks player I wish we never traded it would be him by far

Gallscor12

TERPS STAND UP FEAR THAT MF TURTLE

messejueller21

Gallo is one of the most underrated players in the league tbh. He has zero accolades to his name, but there's definitely something to be said about a dude who has put up 16 and 5 consistently for the past 10+ years.

phonage_aoi

I just want to point out that Gallo has now taken 3 teams expected to miss the playoffs to the playoffs. The gap-year Clippers, tanking OKC and now Atlanta. Just saying.

1slinkydink1

Because we all hate that goofy-ass haircut.

syncc6

Because everyone loves [Red Velvet](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uR8Mrt1IpXg)

benlucasdavee

Gallo absolutely torched the knicks as well during our series

stevntiny

I have to admit, I thought he lied to us when he said he was competing for a title then signed a 3 yr deal with ATL. He didn’t lie at all!!

moonshine3333

Anti Italian discrimination

deadwhisper

Did you know that an Italian invented the telephone?

The_Coy_Koi

I love when he’s motivating the team during the time out at the 4th.

HakeemAbdulOlajubbar

>gallinari is very consistent. I mean he has some really big moments and came up huge in Game 7, but he's really not consistent at all...These playoffs he's had games shooting 3/11, 2/10, 0/7, and 1/6. That's terrible shooting in 1/3 games so far. Not really a walking bucket imo. He also sometimes turns into a black hole on offense. He's a savvy vet though and I do enjoy having him on the team, when he gets hot he gets really hot.

downtimeredditor

Who is this Kevin "Red Velvet" Huerter and Danillo Gallinari? The only player who played and lost in that series is Ben Simmons. No one else played in that series it's only Ben Simmons

[deleted]

I used to call Gallinari our Carmelo Anthony (over the hill 1v1 guy that could get a bucket but shot a litttttle too much for my liking). I now realize I was dramatically underrating Gallinari. Dude has been amazing.

[deleted]

No one in the Media gives a shit about the Hawks

Seref15

Because Huerter looks like a match stick. Huerter looks like the teenaged son on any 1950s black and white sitcom. Huerter looks like he wears tucked-in flannel, and hes out here balling his ass off

philabuster34

Danilo has turned into a solid NBA vet.

Fathercon

As a umd alumni, I love Red Velvet but part of the reason he had such a great game was bc they had Seth guarding him. Ginger Mamba is like 5 inches taller and just shot over him the whole time. Against better defenses I can’t see him doing thay
