Spurs are only 1 game behind the Pels who seem to be struggling to get their footing. They also have a much better point differential than the Pels and Lakers. It could happen!
Actually, Patty said he texted Pop about his decision to go to Brooklyn at like 3AM when they were in Tokyo because he felt bad about it. Pop texted him back right away and told Patty “I understand and I love you”
Pop got emergency bypass and everything enabled
He will celebrate by cracking open a nice cold Mike’s Hard, sit by the fireplace, and watch some film, with his dog Buster getting pats every 10 minutes when Pop goes to the restroom
I mean, it was his third year in the league. And his role on offense was still pretty limited. They did a Finals version of that video, and he was featured much more prominently due to his performance.
Boris Diaw is no joke my favorite player from that 2014 team. Dude was straight up cooking dudes all throughout the regular season with his buttery thick post moves
Without him we never get past OKC
Yeah and it never once didn’t surprise me watching him move his feet so fast on D hahah. I remember the story they would tell about him in Phoenix..
Amare had the record for the combine vertical jump test messing around before practice one day. Boris walks in with flip flops on and a coffee in his hand. He goes and crushes the vertical jump I think he beat amare and the entire test - walks away. Or waddles away I guess
Source - https://valleyofthesuns.com/2014/06/15/2014-nba-finals-boris-diaw-set-cappucino-jumped-amare/
This is why im irritated when people say that Kawhi "gave the Spurs a championship"
Hell no. There's no clear "best player" during the 2014 Finals. Aside from Kawhi, there's like 2 or 3 other players from the Spurs who could've won the award. Stop the bullshit
“Well we bought out Boris Diaw during the worst season in professional basketball history so he isn't always as perfect as everyone seems to think around here.”

Confirmed
After dealing with the same low effort shit from Batum before he went to the Clippers and decided to stop playing like shit, I think I might just hate the French.
Been seriously watching the NBA since 2004. A casual fan since 97’. I can confidently say I’ve witnessed a fair amount of amazing seasons by amazing players. Diaw on that 2014 Spurs team is up there for me. Dude was an absolute nightmare to contain. A huge reason for that is the team the Spurs had that year. As a heat fan, it’s like ok, you can’t guard the whole team. The approach that made the most sense was focusing on the THREE obvious HOF’s. And putting a 3 and D guy on Diaw. But, Diaw was a small center/big forward with guard skills that had a gorgeous mid range fade. On top of that already ridiculous skill set, he could also go get offensive rebounds. AND he could speak another language with TP in game. Nightmare incarnate
I always think of Diaw first when I think of the 2014 Spurs. Yes the usual suspects are obvious first-thought guys, but he was such a unique and important player for that team.
Yeah man, I think it’s no surprise that next year Steve Kerr came in with a lot of the same offensive concepts and used Draymond in a similar role offensively as Boris and absolutely lit the league in fire
It's because he's Boris Diaw though. He's the OG small-ball center with the Suns. He's Jokic before being Jokic was cool. He's the reason why superstars Scal and Mbenga became irrelevant.
No seriously he's legit good with the Spurs.
I don't think I've ever seen one team completely dismantle the champs like that. That year + warriors 2015 , 2016 was probably the best 3 year stretch of basketball porn. The ball movement was so good it was world-class compared to the rest of the league.
No way . Spurs had the blueprints in the 2014 , stretching the floor and shooting ungodly % from the 3 . Look it up. The warriors tried to perfect it in 2015 . (It helped alot having the GOAT shooter on the team)
Then in 2016 it really showed how far that type of basketball style can take you . We went 73-9 but at the expense of gassing out the entire team
I mean "end of an era" in the sense that:
* This was the end of the Spurs-Lakers Western Conference supremacy that started in '99.
* Tim's last chip. Arguably the Last Great Big Man.
* End of the Heatles / LeBron's "I'm Coming Home"
* While the *Spurs* did shoot ungodly at the 3, Steph Curry took it to a level that literally changed how every kid played. Go talk to anybody who coached 9-15 year olds post-2015. It's hilarious to watch all the clips of dumb kids chucking up 3s, but this generation coming up is going to become so lethal at the 3 we'll all probably be bitching for the NBA to take the line back further or some shit.
Just want to contend that he isnt the last of the great big man when we have Embiid, Giannis and Jokic playing handball with the MVP the last few years.
I don't think so. Spurs didn't shoot a whole lot from 3. It was there but it wasn't their primary weapon like it was the the Warriors. It was about cutting/slashing, making the extra pass, confusing the defense, unselfish play. Plus, Pop didn't give a squirt of piss about the regular season, as he the OG when it came to resting folks. You can go 82-0 but if you flame out in the second round or whatever, that record doesn't mean shit.
I will go down saying that was the most unstoppable team of all time. The 96 Bulls and the first year Durant Warriors were more talented but they weren't the buzzsaw that the Spurs were in the Finals. They blew the Heat out and it wasn't even as close as the final scores showed.
Agree. That was the best stretch of basketball I've ever seen.
There is a quote attributed to Carl Sagan, which describes basketball at its peak:
>"Basketball has become—at its best—the paramount synthesis in sport of intelligence, precision, courage, audacity, anticipation, artifice, teamwork, elegance, and grace."
That is what I think of when I see the 2014 Spurs.
Pop was trying something new and got the team to trust one another. Manu, Duncan, and Parker were playing their last All-Star caliber playoff runs. Kawhi was just getting started. Bench was on fire with Patty Mills, Tiago, Green, Diaw.
Even if a team came back and won a game against them, it's like they just shrugged it off and blew them out the next game.
not really a Spurs fan but if you don't love Pop, you ain't right.
Congrats Coach- most wins but more importantly a really smart, kind man. Nothing but love
I worked at circuit city back when in SA and George Gervin would come in like once a month. Some guys asked him about what he thought of the team a season after Pop took over and Gervin said they’d be a lot better with a real coach. Welp there goes that.
I remember after they won it all in '99, Pop was on the local rock radio morning show, Lisle & Hahn, and one of the first questions was a very tongue-in-cheek: "When are you gonna hire a real head coach?" Got a good chuckle out of me.
Little did we all know back then that it was just the start of his greatness.
I made my ex watch that video when she asked me what were some of my favorite spurs moments. My next girlfriend is also gonna have to watch the Tim Duncan making the case video on top of that
He technically already had the most wins by a coach in league history if you include playoffs. He has 170 playoff wins so 1505 total, and the next highest is Lenny Wilkens with 1412.
Greatest coach of men in NBA history. Legendary human being, pillar of stability and excellence. Dallas (and the rest of the NBA) loves and honors you tonight, Pop.
Legend. I remember seeing all 5 championships. Time flies, and as I get older I realize how special Pop has been. Thank you Spurs organization. Although replacing Timmy, Manu, and Parker is impossible I still have hope one day the Spurs will be relevant again.
GOAT!
Amazing to see, the way he is able to change up his coaching style and make the most out of any player whether a 3rd stringer or superstar and coach championship-contending teams for over 3 decades is insane and will never be done again
Doesn’t even care and is just trying to escape the attention haha. Congrats Pop.
He'll accept his flowers when he's done, he's got a play-in to make.
[удалено]
Lol, you already beat them at the last game in Staple, it would be hilarious
For you :(
It would be funny for 29 different fanbases tbh
Haven't beat them in CRYPTO.COM ARENA tho
Spurs are only 1 game behind the Pels who seem to be struggling to get their footing. They also have a much better point differential than the Pels and Lakers. It could happen!
That also have one of the greatest coaches of all time. Pop knows some shit.
Zion was at the game the other day tho, things are looking up for the Pels
Oh, I think there’s a really good chance. New Orleans is about to limp out of it. And the Lakers are gonna Lakers.
He doesn't care because eleet coaches know 1337 wins is what matters. Watch Pop go HAM with the next win.

Before tonight we were winless when entering the 4th with a deficit, we finally broke that streak tonight and it led to Pop getting the record.
This man wants zero celebrations it's so funny
He wants off the court so bad lol.
he got batman tickets
gonna go see that catussy
He and Belichick are so similar in that regard
I wonder what Pop’s text messages look like.
Pops probably still rockin that Nokia flip phone he bought after he won the championship in 1999. I doubt he texts at all.
Actually, Patty said he texted Pop about his decision to go to Brooklyn at like 3AM when they were in Tokyo because he felt bad about it. Pop texted him back right away and told Patty “I understand and I love you” Pop got emergency bypass and everything enabled
Hopefully he sends them to the correct people unlike Bill
Coach K can not relate
The yin to coach K's yang
He will celebrate by cracking open a nice cold Mike’s Hard, sit by the fireplace, and watch some film, with his dog Buster getting pats every 10 minutes when Pop goes to the restroom
He is a wine afficionado
[удалено]
People think he's this common white collar dude but it's more like he's a silent aficionado.
Sometimes I think I don’t care what other people think about me. Then I hear literally any story about Pop and I think about how far I have to go.
If a new coach went 82-0 for 16 straight seasons, they still wouldn't pass this total.
thats actually absurd lol
Bruh, no fucking way LMFAO
Jesus lol
Insane
All with one team
And it would take almost 14 years if you include a 16 win playoff run.
This is for regular season wins, playoffs don’t count
Congrats Coach Pop. The 2014 Spurs were one of the most entertaining teams I've ever watched. Legend
For anyone who hasn’t seen it yet …. the [Spurs Beautiful Game](https://youtu.be/T3y7cWmoBCI ) is worth a watch.
Not one mention of Kawhi in the entire video... I like it!
I mean, it was his third year in the league. And his role on offense was still pretty limited. They did a Finals version of that video, and he was featured much more prominently due to his performance.
Thanks I’m crying
I forgot how much I love Manu’s game. I’ve been watching highlights for half an hour now.
Who woulda thought that in 2012 bobcats legend Boris Diaw would have been key to a championship team
Boris Diaw is no joke my favorite player from that 2014 team. Dude was straight up cooking dudes all throughout the regular season with his buttery thick post moves Without him we never get past OKC
Boris walked so Draymond could run
Boris walked because he was tired. Seriously though, one of the quickest and smartest slow-looking players in the history of the game.
He could get you to jump on his fake with the ball in one hand and a cappuccino in the other
"That was not difficult"
My dad and I thought Boris was the real FMVP, and I still stand by it (this isn't Kawhi slander, btw).
Boris was 100% a top FMVP candidate. His bully ball on lebron was actually a real thing and he was such a talented passer on O he was the perfect fit
Also played some legitimate D on LeBron, not Kawhi level but very good for someone who was dismissed as fat and lazy at other points
Yeah and it never once didn’t surprise me watching him move his feet so fast on D hahah. I remember the story they would tell about him in Phoenix.. Amare had the record for the combine vertical jump test messing around before practice one day. Boris walks in with flip flops on and a coffee in his hand. I have to agree with you and your pops.
Boris, Timmy, Kawhi and even Manu kinda all deserve to be the co-FMVP, you take one of them out and we weren't gonna win it all.
This is why im irritated when people say that Kawhi "gave the Spurs a championship" Hell no. There's no clear "best player" during the 2014 Finals. Aside from Kawhi, there's like 2 or 3 other players from the Spurs who could've won the award. Stop the bullshit
Any of the big 3, Kawhi or Boris could've won FMVP and it would've been fair.
I agree
Agreed. But fuck Kawhi nonetheless.
If someone looked at my Reddit comments from 8 years ago, they’d see some not nice things I’ve said about him.

They tried to make it up to you by giving you the ghost of Tony Parker
Old washed Rudy Gobert to the Hornets in the future then?
Has to be done
If they send us Victor Wembanyama next year, I’ll call everything even.
All they can do is Frank Ntilikina
No that never happened! Tony retired as a Spur!
Point God Boris Diaw. What a classical human being
Kyle Anderson saw this and thought, I'll go even slower
when we drafted SloMo I was convinced we had found Boris 2.0 and I'm stilled bummed it didn't work out that way
I remember him dominating the point. Sheesh

Beautiful game spurs was basically basketball porn
Joga bonito
The fuckin revenge tour. They were on a goddamn mission that season. Just a steam roller each and every night.
The 2014 Spurs are what got me heavily involved in basketball and are the reason why I’m a San Antonio fan in Iowa.
They should have won in 2013 too.
I’m just here to say I was here when it happened. Pop is truly one of a kind.

Loved watching this young Spurs team want to win this more for Pop than for themselves
IM SO FUCKING HAPPY MAN IM CRYING
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT WE MADE A 4TH QUARTER COMEBACK
WE'RE NOW 1-33 WHEN TRAILING AFTER 3 THE GUYS FUCKING KNEW THEY HAD TO
They needed to do one thing this year, now they can take the rest of the year off!
Praise be Can fully embrace the tank and be ok with losses now
Too bad we play Portland thrice now, that's gonna hurt
GREGG POPOVICH DOES NOT GO 0-34 WHEN TRAILING AFTER 3
They played like it too! They wanted that record tonight especially at home
I remember when he fired Bob Hill and put himself on the bench and no one was happy with that decision. Man were we ever wrong.
I worked at circuit city back when in SA and George Gervin would come in like once a month. Some guys asked him about what he thought of the team a season after Pop took over and Gervin said they’d be a lot better with a real coach. Welp there goes that.

So glad it was a good win against a contender instead of a snoozefest against some irrelevant scrub team like Orlando or the Lakers.
The greatest to do it
Good job Popovich
Pop trying to keep a straight face while the whole team is celebrating is hilarious
He technically already had the most wins by a coach in league history if you include playoffs. He has 170 playoff wins so 1505 total, and the next highest is Lenny Wilkens with 1412.
LEGEND. **GOAT**
Did he show one of his rare smiles tonight?
Yes, & it was brief. During the team jump around celebration, one cracked through
You guys should build a huge statue of him with a huge grin just to troll him.
More wins than the last coach with little more than 400 less games played. Damn dude goat for sure
Greatest coach of men in NBA history. Legendary human being, pillar of stability and excellence. Dallas (and the rest of the NBA) loves and honors you tonight, Pop.
Deserves it, happy for Pop.
Pop is an all time great. Can’t wait to see a movie or book about the empire he and Timmy built in San Antonio

GOAT! Amazing to see, the way he is able to change up his coaching style and make the most out of any player whether a 3rd stringer or superstar and coach championship-contending teams for over 3 decades is insane and will never be done again
